Declan will die if he kills me. The community I belong to—my tribe—is strong and ruthless. Vengeful.

Consuela or Declan could kill me right now. I don't have a gun. Either of them could raise their weapons, aim, fire. They could soak this carpet with my blood, spatter it across their shirts, mist droplets in their hair.

But they don’t want to and not just because they don’t want to die. They like me and, honestly, I like them.

Consuela’s so f****** grounded. She knows who she is and what she cares about. Declan’s grim determination to not be a total piece of s*** is kind of adorable. And makes him somewhat easy to manipulate—which is useful.

“Remember the first time we met?” Declan asks, surprising me. I reach back in my memories to sparkling turquoise eyes—a mounted police officer. Declan’s partner. “You were sitting on a curb holding a dog’s leash with blood caked on your shins." He reminds me.

The heat of the sun basks my cheeks, the stench of the dead body clings to my nose. The drying blood, whipped across my legs by a grotesque toupee locked in a Golden Retriever’s mouth, itches.

“What’s your point?” I ask.

Behind me, one of the drugged police officer’s radio crackles. I hold up a hand, silencing Declan’s response but I can’t make out the words.

Mulberry speaks into my ear. “They’re asking if one of the men can come down and assist. Apparently, the disturbance has turned into a bit of a brawl. You need to leave now. Plan B.”

The original plan, A, was for me to just stroll out of the hotel, walk to the helipad on the East River, where Robert Maxim offered to give me a ride over to New Jersey, dropping me off so I can board a trawler and head north up the Hudson.

Plan B means I’m taking the stairs to the service exit. That’s fine. But I need to go before someone comes to check on this situation.

“We’ve known each other a long time,” Declan says. He's still not making a point. Is Declan buying time?

“That doesn’t mean anything, trust isn’t linear, Declan.”

His lips press together, Declan does not like that truth. “We won’t hurt you.”

I laugh again. “Declan, if there is one thing I trust, it’s that you won’t hurt me.” I give him one more grin before turning away into the shadowed living room. Blue’s nose taps my hip.

My long, warm overcoat with its big hood drapes across an over stuffed chair. My gaze tracks briefly to the police officers passed out on the couch. They each lean against an armrest, their legs spread wide, knees almost touching.

I swing my coat on, adjust my backpack over it, tightening the straps. Then I get the f*** out of there.

I write because I love to read, but I have specific tastes...

If I was offered a job as a professional reader with no strings attached, I would take it. Getting paid to sit around and read while drinking tea all day—I'm there. Since that’s not possible, I became an author.

I write the books I want to read—stories that give me the immersive reading experiences I crave. When a series grabs me, and it's all I can think about, I'm SO happy. When my inner dialogue starts sounding like the protagonist of my current read, I think, Oh yeah, this is IT. This is what I love.

When I finish a book, and I NEED to immediately grab the next one in the series, that’s the intensity I crave. When I binge read an entire series, I want to feel like my own reality changed—as if the stories I read affected the real world just a little. After a great series I'm a little wiser, a little more grateful for my everyday existence, and a little more aware that my personal perspective is not everyone's.

Personally, I like to spend time in fictional worlds where justice is exacted with a vengeance, even though good and bad are not always black and white. Give me raw stories with a main character who occasionally makes me laugh, is flawed like we all are, and feels like a friend by the end of the first few chapters. They don’t have to be a friend I always LIKE, per se, but a part of me has to root for them.

For me, the sentence structure is important. Too much passive voice, and I'm out. I do not mind four-letter words at all though. Sex in books can go either way—fade to black or show me the details, but either way there has to be a reason it’s in the story. I'm also into heroic pets, plots that seem totally unhinged but all come together in the end with a BANG, and long series so I always have more to look forward to.

Those are the types of stories I love reading, so that’s how I write. If you’re into some or all of the above then I think we are going to get along fantastically.

I reluctantly give Feral Vengeance three stars. It should prolly only get two. This series of Sydney Rye mystery adventures has been inconsistent in the quality department. Or, maybe I'm just moody. This episode was short and ended rather abruptly; the last 7% of the book was an excerpt from another series and other housekeeping. I understood the message in the targets of Sydney's wrath (billionaire tech guys trying to take over the world via AI) but she was only assigned one of them. The others were assigned to other assassins but we didn't get to participate in their adventures. There are limits to story telling in the first-person style, after all. This episode was missing the good story telling some of the previous books had, especially the tension and danger. Perhaps I am just used to her getting away. Blue prolly had the most exciting take downs. But what bothered me most, I think, is her very cavalier attitude toward the men in her life. She now has three fellas vying for her affection and they are all OK with it. Or so they claim. Fortunately, one of them is the father of her child and functions as a parent while she pursues the bad guys. So, I was disappointed after waiting so long for the installment. I have pre-ordered book 20 in the hopes it will rise to previous 5 star status. If not, well, Sydney and I may have to say a fond farewell.

Sydney and Blue’s story had me captivated from the beginning! I was gasping from excitement and fear, kicking my feet and screaming from the romance and the action packed scenes. This storyline just keeps getting better and better with each book Emily writes. I love that she writes about a female vigilante who answers to no one. Sydney is strong, confident, intelligent and comfortable as a woman, who knows what she wants in all areas of her life. She can be a little hot headed and illogical when pushed but also listens to her advisers to find the best solution to the problem. She is a daredevil, a woman with few fears, a loving partner and mother. She is everything many of us wish to be. This book begins immediately where Brutal Mercy leaves off as a cliff hanger. Mulberry, Blue and Sydney must escape from a world class hotel under the noses of police after the death of a highly visible politician. With the help of Robert Maxim, Sydney and Blue escapes NYC. But, Sydney is determined to find a missing member of her team also. Through investigation she determines where he is and is delivered to a private island where she obtains information about her next mission. There is no lack of adventure or action in the rest of this story. I don’t want to say too much so I won’t ruin the story for anyone. Just know she is F**king Sydney Rye and the thrills don’t stop. I’ve given this story 5/5⭐️ with a1/5 spicy 🌶️ rating. If you enjoyed the previous books you should check this out, I highly recommend!

First, you should know that the Sydney Rye book series by Emily Kimelman is literally the best series EVER. Especially if you're a fan of strong female characters who grow in every way, never lose their humanity and never lose a fight. I've read the entire series so many times, that I've lost count. Well, technically, I've listened to books 1-18 because the narrator is un-freaking-real. She's a dialect coach and fully embodies the personality, ethnicity and gender of every character. Even if there are 3 white guys in a scene, you can tell who is who because her voices are that distinctive. But I digress... The audiobook is not yet available for this one, at the time of this review, so I read book 19 Feral Vengeance the traditional way, and I can tell you, it's just as good. By book 19, we have been through so much with these characters, that we are living vicariously through them. When they experience conflict or pain, we feel it. When things go well, our hearts soar. This book was centered around a smaller group of our faithful friends, but it was great to finally find out what Dan has been up to. (If you know, you know.) Sydney is working out the kinks in her romantic life ;-) and Blue is showing no signs of slowing down. Without giving away too much, it's another solid installment in the best series of all time. I hope you enjoy it as I have.

Feral Vengeance, Book 19, is everything loyal Sydney Rye fans expect - times ten. I found this high octane from beginning to end. With a plot that could have been pulled from today’s headlines the reader will find themself cheering, Oh Yeah - that’ll work! Matching the characters to folks in actual headlines was an amusing side treat.

Were this playing out IRL, I wonder if the headline would be: Lactating Assassin Goes on Geo-political Rampage. Sydney Rye’s seeking justice field of view has broadened as evil has widened its footprint and become so much better funded. New tactics are required - as are new alliances and new cohorts.

Billionaires, AI, corrupt politicians, and lust for power seem to have created an unstoppable force. But that just makes Sydney amp up the volume. When the dust settles the reader can make a case for stopped, paused, or just a new coat of paint. And then there is Robert - the discordant note and the reason we are all begging for Book 20.

Emily Kimelman has crafted a complex ensemble cast of characters that frequently scramble the board. Readers are often guessing but always cheering. Feral Vengeance is an excellent read.

Amazing! At book 19, it’s imperative to read the entire series as the book continues in a linear fashion. Back to her assassin roots Sydney has a new mission. All this time Dan had disappeared he was actually working on something huge. With Sydney, Mulberry, James and the dogs on a family trip to see Dan, they learn of his new venture. It’s quite scary and, unfortunately, very realistic. Without giving away the whole mission I’ll just say it involves AI, and knowing what we know today that could lead to all sorts of scenarios. I just love how Sydney is back to fighting again, becoming a mother changed her but only in that she has a new love. Mulberry is her constant, Robert as her husband but that’s a strange relationship and then Simon is still hanging by a thread. Poor Simon, I mean the guy just won’t give up. It’s exciting for the thrill of the adventure and anxious for what’s to come. After reading an advanced copy I’ve written my review voluntarily.

Even after 19 books, I never tire of reading about Sydney and her shenanigans. This book got me out of my winter reading slump, and I am very impatiently waiting for the next one after that ending(Emily, if you’re reading this, I’ll trade you a kidney for the rest of the series RIGHT NOW).

I love getting to see all of Sydney’s different relationships grow and change, romantic and otherwise, and watching little James grow up. I especially love the relationship between James and Frank, they’re so sweet together! 🥹 Sydney is a badass, like usual, kicking ass and taking names, and definitely gets herself into some *extra* tricky situations this time.

Im afraid I will be unable to stop myself from accidentally spoiling something if I keep going, just know that this is an excellent addition to the series, and I cannot wait for more.

Feral Vengeance is a tight, fast moving addition to the Sydney Rye series. Filled with relevant correlations to the directions the world seems to be moving in as well as dry humor from Sydney towards the characters we love to love, and the ones we love to hate.

One of the many characteristics of Sydney is the contradictions in her ethos that I believe many of us can relate to also carrying within ourselves. Author Emily Kimelman writes stories filled with vengeance towards the people that deserve it, and reading her books can be a satisfying way to experience handing out consequences in a secure situation.

This book is a total meltdown; the implications are terrifying and so very close to reality on so many levels. When people get involved with controlling others, on whatever level that might be, they are just terrifying. Add in an intelligence that is easily manipulated and on the other hand, easily manipulating. You've got one scary thing. I keep thinking back to the things that were said in the Bible and the comparisons made to what we use today in technology to those comparisons. I don't wanna be afraid of it, but I do want to be aware of it. This book is just so good - so very, very good. Thank you very much!!!

Feral Vengeance is another highly suspenseful action roller coaster by Emily Kimelman. One of the things I love about this series is that the author always does such a good job of building her characters, drawing out internal conflicts (external ones for that matter too), and challenging them from chapter to chapter. Along with the action, sex, and 4 letter words, the pages are always turning at a high clip.
This installment is another great episode of Sydney Rye, her dog Blue, and her crew taking on the baddies and delivering painful justice to those who so righteously deserve it. Feral Vengeance is another cathartic installment for all of us to enjoy and bask in. Thank you, Emily!

One job. Too many moving parts. And no room for mistakes.

Sydney and Blue team up with a mix of old allies and dangerous new faces for a high-risk, multi-person assassination. When the operation goes sideways, it falls to Sydney to fix what’s broken—fast.

With her son never far from her thoughts and multiple men complicating her life, Sydney must stay focused long enough to finish the job and survive the fallout. If you’re a Sydney fan, you already know the answer.

Once again, Emily delivers a pulse-pounding, edge-of-your-seat thriller packed with bold characters, nonstop action, intrigue, and mystery. Another kick-ass must-read.

Sydney Rye continues her search for Dan.
This book starts with a bang, grabs you immediately and doesn't let up. I could easily picture these characters in my head, like watching a movie. I was so wrapped up in the story, I didn't even realize I had reached the end. I wanted to scream NOOOO! Im a little concerned about my feelings for Robert and Simon. All the characters at their finest. Now I can't wait for the next Sydney Rye, and I'm afraid it will be a while since this one just came out. I wish Emily could write as fast as we can read. Don't miss out on this book, you will be sorry. Every book in this series leaves you wanting more!

Emily Kimelman takes us on another wild ride with Sydney, Blue and many of the usual folks. While I'm a little behind in the series it didn't matter because Emily does a great job catching you up. You will lose sleep; I did. I stayed up past my bedtime more than once because I HAD TO see what would happen next. Once again I came away feeling like I knew these folks and could hear their voices. Love when an author can do that! And man, I think I've met my match in dropping the f-bombs. This is not for you if you offend easily. It is definitely for you if you think the world is more that a little off kilter!!

I got hooked on the Sydney Rye series a while back and this is yet another thrilling journey! Emily Kimelman never disappoints and keeps the flipping pages as fast as I can to see what will happen next. I can't wait for the audiobook to be released too, because the narration is always amazing and it will let me re-live Feral Vengeance all over again while waiting for the next installment in the series. The way Emily ties in the current state of our world with this vigilante justice is amazing and inspiring. I can only hope one day a real Sydney Rye will present herself to lead the revolution! Until then, I just have to keep reading!

Another great story that goes by too quickly, lol. I always get to the end of these books and want more. The latest adventures of Sydney Rye tell a deeper story of her drive for justice, balancing her identities as a spy, activist, mother, wife, lover and kick-ass heroine. If this book had a theme song, it would be Meredith Brooks "Bitch" as Sydney does not apologize or back down for anything and recognizes that the complex parts of her make her who she is. Emily Kimelman does a great job of confronting current events and taking power back and I wouldn't have it any other way! I received this as an ARC from the author's team.

Sydney Rye is nothing if not consistent. She is consistently ferocious. Consistently dedicated to justice. And she is consistently in Mama Bear mode with a heart and body full of love for her baby and her dogs. She is such dichotomy of feelings and emotions that the reader is drawn into her journey and her life. And of course, who doesn't want to be able to do the kick-ass things she does?! The featuring of the dogs is what drew me in. The character and her strength and her depths keep me coming back.
This story will draw you in and keep you turning the pages! And it ended WAY too fast!

How can this be #19 in this super fast paced, action packed, unputdownable series. If you haven’t read the series yet, do it now. If you’re like me who has been Sydney Rye and Blues number one fan from the beginning of this series, this book will keep you up until it’s finished. And then begging for number 20! I thoroughly enjoyed this book and am anxiously awaiting the next. Thank you Emily for creating such amazing characters and for keeping Blue alive and the bad guys not.
Get this book and don’t plan on putting it down until the last page!

Feral Vengeance is classic Sydney Rye— a fast-paced thriller that pulls the headlines and takes them to terrifying, almost unfathomable conclusion. Sydney is as bad-ass as ever as she teams up with her constants—Blue, her son, Mulberry, and Robert—and takes us on another wild ride as she searches for Dan. It’s a huge testament to Kimelman’s writing that although the story follows a similar arc as the earlier books, it never becomes predictable or formulaic. I read this in one sitting and can’t wait to read the next.

I'm hooked! A thrilling page-turner! I’m new to the series but Emily provides enough backstory to easily follow along. Sydney is so enthralling that I want more so will start the series from Book 1. Blue is portrayed as a true partner. Other characters and locations are vividly described. Suspenseful chapters kept me engaged way past my bedtime. I enjoyed Emily’s overall writing style and appreciate her selecting a topic that will make you think about the future of the world…

I just love reading this series! The storyline never fails to take hold and never let go.
This time Sydney is desparate to find a team member. She needs help from a man who always wants more than she wants to give. She ends up on an island and finds her teammate - and what her next mission is. This time, they are after the most powerful men in the world. I missed a couple of night's sleep reading it, but it was worth it.
Can't wait for number 20! Thank you Emily!

Feral Vengeance is an intense, thrilling ride with multiple targets, all while never really knowing how, or if, Sydney is going to make it out alive!

There's a serious back story, with this being book 19 in the series, but the intensity and intrigue, the action and the ending all make for a great story that can be read alone. Beware, you'll want to go back to Book 1 and read the entire series!

Kimelman never disappoints. I absolutely loved, loved, loved this book. All of her Sydney Rye books are amazing, but this one was above and beyond. As usual, it combined just the right amount of suspense, humor, and current event "nods" for the perfect book. I started this book, and literally did not put it down until I finished it. Definitely one you want to read!

Sydney once again gets involved in some very dangerous situations. Some quite by accident and others on purpose, to make the world a better place, by taking out the trash. All the while she is also trying to keep her family safe and dealing with with her feelings for the men in her complicated life. Book #20 can't get here fast enough for me!
