Miss Adams - spicy, smutty romance set in the strict, rigid Victorian era where a woman explores her desires and pleasure. Don’t let the cover fool you.
Secretary at a prestigious law firm,Miss Adams becomes entangled in unexpected developments when she discovers Mr. Ashford, the firm’s manager, in an intimate moment with his secretary. This revelation sets off a tumultuous rollercoaster of emotions, passions, and desires. Mr. Ashford is deeply drawn to her and yearns for a connection, though he struggles to express his feelings. Meanwhile, Miss Adams initially remains indifferent to his advances, wanting to stay away from him while carefully navigating the demands of her job. As new friendships emerge, she is forced to confront her emotions in a strict, judgmental society where such behavior could lead to scandal.
The narrative weaves a complex tale of secrecy, longing, and the delicate dance between love and duty, with the backdrop of elegant balls and societal expectations. As Miss Adams and Mr. Ashford navigate their internal and external dilemmas, they must confront their feelings in a world that demands adherence to its rigid moral codes, all while exploring the power of attraction and the consequences of their actions.
This was a good historical romance. I recommend giving this a read if you enjoy historical romance or want to give it a try. This is by an indie author and is just recently published. This is also a quick read with less than 200 pages. There is romance, spice, twists, unexpected ending, and was an overall good read.
I found the author on my FYP on TikTok and the video said her novel was available on KU, so I immediately downloaded since I wanted to support an indie author.
The story is an incredibly quick read, you can finish it within a couple of hours. I’m thinking it’s the first in a series, or at least a duet since it leaves you on a cliffhanger.
You get thrown into the story incredibly quickly, with spice happening almost immediately. It doesn’t leave a lot of room for world building or character development.
A lot of things are left unwritten and you as the reader need to pick up on the messaging as you read through it.
It is available on Kindle Unlimited which is a plus, but it had a few editing issues (that hopefully can be fixed - some spelling errors, capitalization and punctuation errors).
I enjoyed the interactions between the characters, it’s a slow burn. If there is a second novel, I hope we see Amara’s awakening into her desires. She’s a capable working woman and hopefully that can translate more deeply in the next story.
I gave it a 2.5 because it felt strong in the first few chapters but then felt thin in its storytelling towards the middle and end. It felt like filler and small cut scenes in a TV episodes rather than a way to drive the plot or story forward.
I hope there is a second novel that comes out which is richer and delves more into the characters growth because they are interesting. Nuture them a little more and they’ll be ready to tell a full tale.
Yeah, this is a book for folks who want Jane Austin vibes. It gave all that. And I am so happy that there is finally a MMC who yearns and shows kindness instead of just displaying toxic masculinity. 100% recommend.
I will say there are a few grammatical mistakes, but they are really minor ones like a few names not being capitalized, among a few others, I don’t really care about that, but I know others do.
This is a historical Victorian smutty novel. This was such a great read it didn’t end how I thought it was going to! So I’m left hanging I want to know more about Amara. Over all it’s 4.5 stars read of me I don’t think historical books are for me I will however read the next book! I really loved the story so I can push past the history and enjoy the book all the same!
Reading Miss Adams by A.J. Fox pulled me into a world of restraint, quietly burning desire, and professional ambition. I felt Amara Adams’s determination as she stepped into a prestigious law firm, and I sensed the weight of each glance when Mr. Ashford noticed her for all the wrong reasons. The slow-burn tension simmered beautifully, the characters’ inner conflicts felt real, and I found myself rooting for love that may come at a cost. It is a must read!
"You torment me Miss Adams. From the moment I first saw you it has been nothing but torment. I cannot thinkcannot sleep without you consuming my very soul. You walk into a room and I am undone. It is as though you were sent to ruin me."
Loved the romance and the plot. it had all the yearning and tension I love. A bit lacking in the spice department, but overall a very good read. Looking forward to the next book❤️
The whole book is basically Miss Adams being lowkey horny and secretly obsessed with Ashford — and not gonna lie, she was way too into watching Clara and Ashford doing it. Girl really needs to face her emotions and desires instead of suppressing everything like it’s a full-time job. She’s carrying so much inside and pretending she is a lady🤭

Got this as a free ebook, so thought I’d drop a review. The best part? FMC Amara Adams. I loved seeing her as a woman of color, her struggles, and her hidden desires in the town of Milton. Can’t wait for the second book to dive more into MMC Ashford's mind. I need to know why he’s is the way he is.is he a hero or villain?
Popped up on my fyp so decided to give it a try Romance ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Spicy 🌶️🌶️🌶️ Hope the author write a second book and give the couple a happy ending. Also hope clara gets her HE too, liked the character
I loved this book. A.J it was good. I got this book during a free eBook promotion, and I also plan to buy a physical copy as well. The ending was exceptionally brilliant because it can stay as a standalone or continue into more books.
A girl goes to a small town for job, sees her manager doing his secretary which awakes her inner desires...gives vibes of bridgerton and The duke of shadows
