Be the hunter, not the hunted.
The world ended in a whisper.
For sixteen-year-old Alex Taylor, survival isn’t just a fight, its a war. With a crossbow on her back and a fire in her heart, she roams the barren wasteland of a zombie-ravaged America, whilst carrying the weight of her family’s loss. She couldn’t save them, but she won’t let their memory die in vain. But in this desolate wasteland, the undead aren’t the only predators. When Alex stumbles upon a group of survivors held hostage by brutal scavengers, she faces a harrowing decision, walk away and stay safe, or risk her life to save the strangers. Driven by grief, loneliness, and a fierce resolve to honour her family’s legacy,Alex steps into the fray. She doesn’t just become a survivor, she becomes a warrior. In a world where the dead don’t just hunt, they whisper, using the voices of loved ones to lure the living to their doom. Each night, the haunting voices of her dead loved ones beckon her. Is it madness creeping in, or something far more sinister? Haunted by her past and the horrors of the present, Alex must confront the darkest recesses of her mind. Will she become the protector these survivors desperately need? or will the harsh reality of the apocalypse harden her heart beyond repair? Gravepulse is a visceral, pulse-pounding tale of survival and sacrifice, with a flicker of humanity in a world shrouded in death. Gritty, unrelenting and unforgettable, this is horror at its finest.

GRAVEPULSE: Hunted
Book 1 of 1: GRAVEPULSE
By Ms. R. Richards
March 2, 2025 | 337 pages

Star Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Dread Factor: 💀💀💀
Trigger Warnings: Loss of family, gore, violence, child endangerment, attempted assault, cannibalism, psychological trauma

What Did I Just Walk Into?

Zombie apocalypse? Check. Cannibals? Yep. Whispering undead that mimic your dead mom’s voice to lure you to your doom? Oh, we’re going there. This book threw me headfirst into a nightmare soup of grief, guts, and grit—served with a side of crossbow bolts and barely-contained trauma.

Sixteen-year-old Alex Taylor isn’t just the main character; she’s the de facto adult, emotional punching bag, and full-time zombie-slayer for the poor souls she finds along the way. She’s been through hell and didn’t even get a T-shirt—just the constant whisper of her dead mom trying to gaslight her into becoming walker chow.

Here’s What Slapped

Ms. R. Richards took the post-apocalyptic trope and added a wicked twist: the zombies talk. Not just groans or shrieks—we’re talking full-on mimicry of loved ones’ voices to psychologically mess you up. Yeah. That’s the emotional gut punch I didn’t know I needed.

Alex’s character is a full-on war cry in human form. She carries grief, rage, guilt, and responsibility like she’s got the apocalypse on her back—and she still finds time to try and save everyone. Even when humans turn out to be worse than the actual zombies (shocker).

The pacing? Savage. The action? Relentless. The emotional damage? Oh, she’s serving it raw.

What Could’ve Been Better

JUSTIN. I mean, what even was that arc? Tease me with emotional bonding and then leave me hanging like a broken swing set in the wasteland? 🤫

Vibe Check

The Last of Us meets The Hunger Games if Katniss was haunted by her dead mom and morally done with everyone’s BS. Trauma. Action. Found family. Nightmares with teeth.

Perfect for Readers Who Love

📖 Young adult apocalypse with actual stakes
📖 Characters who suffer emotionally and physically
📖 Gritty survival horror with heart
📖 Whispering zombies (yes, that’s a whole vibe now)
📖 Found family that feels more real than your group chat

This book was fantastic! I haven't read a book like this before, but it definitely kept me on edge! I felt so bad for Alex the entire time. The number of twists and turns the storyline had was insaine. Now I'm sitting patiently or not so patiently waiting for book two so I know what happens next. 5/5 must read

This novel is the first in the gravepulse series.
The novel is about zombies and how the people have to fight to get away from them. The storyline and characters were well thought out. U can see in your minds eye what each character looks like and how they fight and care for each other. Alex. Looses her whole family but pushes through to try and find *camp Hope*
Along her journey she meets other children trying to survive this new world, their new normal so to speak. They not only running for their lives from the zombies but evil men trying to hurt them and take advantage of them. I'm not going to spoil the rest of the novel as I want you to find out yourself how gripping and fast pace it is. You won't be disappointed. I'm dying to see what becomes of Alex and her friends in this journey. R RICHARDS is a talented story teller. I'm thrilled to be in her world of fantasy.

Gravepulse Hunted Book

By Roxy Richard ( Zara Williams )

This thriller/horror novel was an excellent read.

I'll say first you should read the trigger warnings and the dedication. I never saw them written this way, it made me giggle.

Gravepulse was a quick read, and all you want to do is turn the pages 📖

The main character, Alex, it's hard to not like her. She is smart, strong willed, a big heart and has lots of courage 🥷 for a teenager. The rest of the characters that team up with Alex are just as memorable.

Book overview:
Driven by grief, loneliness, and a fierce resolve to honour her family’s legacy, Alex steps into the fire. She doesn’t just become a survivor, she becomes a warrior. In a world where the dead don’t just hunt, they whisper, using the voices of loved ones to lure the living to their doom. Each night, the haunting voice of her mother beckons her. Is it madness creeping in, or something far more sinister? Haunted by her past and the horrors of the present, Alex must confront the darkest recesses of her mind. Will she become the protector these survivors desperately need? or will the harsh reality of the apocalypse harden her heart beyond repair? Grave Pulse is a visceral, pulse-pounding tale of survival, sacrifice, with a flicker of humanity in a world shrouded in death. Gritty, unrelenting, and unforgettable, this is horror at its finest.
Will she fight to survive or surrender to the relentless pulse of the grave❓❓❓

I laughed in the beginning then cried 😢, went to anger 😡, and shock 😯. The ending is perfect to lead to Book 2...

Ok. R. Richards really did it with this one! I enjoyed this way more than I thought I would. Zombies with a twist. Some are slightly more intelligent and can mimic the voices of your family members and call out to you. Alex is one brave, strong- willed girl that watched her family get torn apart, yet she pushed on to save herself and everyone that came into her path. I really thought more would happen with Justin though. After everything they went through together, I hoped they would find comfort with each other. Either way, this was action packed and I loved every second of it. I didn't want this to end! You definitely need to check this one out!!! Can't wait for book 2.

🧟‍♂️🧟‍♂️🧟‍♂️🧟‍♂️
I’m giving this one four stars! Alex is on her own, almost from the start of the zombie apocalypse. Everything you thought you knew about zombies doesn’t even come close! It’s definitely giving The Walking Dead vibes, with so many interesting twists to keep you reading. Alex meets new friends, loses friends, battles against horrible humans, and becomes so strong throughout the adventure. The characters are really well done, the drama is on point, and the action never stops. I’m looking forward to the next book in the series!

I loved this. If you’re a fan of zombie books then this is one for you. Grit and determination along with a sense of belonging pull the main characters through. I thought I had my zombie apocalypse survival all planned out. Then I read this. Night two and I would be out. The added fear from the zombies make this unique. I loved it and can’t wait to read more
