This was one of those effortless type of reads for me, I was truly sucked into the story for the majority and found it to be very engaging. Katherine was a likable character for me and I was desperate to know why someone was following her and what they wanted from her. It lost me as the story progressed because many of the happenings seemed a bit too coincidental and not at all plausible. I wasn’t altogether pleased with the answers either, but I did like most of this. Overall a quick and fast paced domestic suspense I mostly enjoyed.

This was not a win for me. It’s a slow burn suspense with no real climax, edge or shock. Theres all this build up and suddenly… it’s all fixed. It is a very easy and quick read but it lacked substance.
Kathryn is being followed by a PI and she has no idea why. She crosses paths with an ex-special forces man who offers his help in tracking down the investigator. As the two join forces they find suspicion everywhere, including very close to home.
This needed a banger of a twist to make it memorable and it didn’t have that. This was published posthumously so it’s possible it just wasn’t ready for readers too.

This is a fast-paced novel with a twist that will keep you on the edge of your seat. The protagonist, Katherine, and her family have had their share of problems, but it reached a turning point in April. At first, it took me a while to figure out what April had to do with the story, but as the story progressed, I was drawn into the mystery. A private detective is following Katherine, and with the help of a stranger, she figured out who hired the PI and why she is being followed. This is a fantastic posthumous novel that kept me engaged, and I plan to read the other books by the author.

A domestic thriller with short chapters that builds in suspense. Kathryn is being followed, stalked. Her marriage is in crisis, her husband Drew is keeping secrets and she suspects he is having an affair with a coworker. A woman who looks very similar to Kathryn is targeted and hit by a vehicle, and Kathryn can’t help but think the attack was meant for her.
Published posthumously, this book is by the author of Roses. Meacham expertly describes her characters and writes really believable inner dialogue. The side quests and red herrings are interesting in their own right, so the reader doesn’t feel manipulated. I enjoyed reading this book until the last 30%, I was surprised at the ending. For me, the reveal seemed a bit outlandish, but I think others will find it quite satisfying.
If you are in the mood for a suspense thriller without bloody murders, this may be the book for you! And a bonus- it has really short chapters if you are in the mood for

I'm not familiar with the author nor did I know this was published posthumously, but I was intrigued by the premise.
The mystery wasn't bad, it was quite cozy, which I didn't anticipate, but I wasn't a fan of the tone and writing style.
The narrative was corny and typically cliche:
1. How beautiful and attractive Kathryn and Drew are
2. How well adjusted their kids are
3. How convenient that Mike lives in the neighborhood and has the skills and expertise to help Kathryn, and that ending.
I'm all for happy endings but Kathryn achieves all she wished to do academically in just a few months and their financial troubles are taken care of due to that patent is just too corny and pat to be believable.
Maybe I should be suspicious when I'm intrigued by a premise.
I'm rarely surprised (in a good way) once I begin reading.

Definitely a book that will hook you to keep turning pages but the ease in which the main character navigated her way through her situation just felt implausible.
I have been a huge fan of Leila Meacham since discovering and devouring Roses. I loved Tumbleweeds just as much and have dreaded starting Somerset since I knew it was my final book by her since she passed a few years ago.
When the publisher reached out to offer an early opportunity to read a posthumous mystery I jumped at the chance.
This was a quick read and a page turner. I was eager to find out why Kathryn was being tailed. Once things fell into place, the story started fizzling out for me. Everything felt like you turned the dial and it locked into place, if that makes sense. One tiny obstacle and all was right again. It took away from the believability for me.

It has been some time since I've read a romantic suspense novel, and I have to say I really enjoyed this one.
Kathryn Walker was a character that one could easily admire. She was resilient, seemed to have a strong moral code, and she was a loving mother and devoted wife. She lived in a stunning home with views of the Colorado ski slopes. Married to a very successful surgeon, she is now an empty nester. As spring comes to Colorado, Kathryn's life takes a turn for the worse. Not only is it April, the month when she lost her first child, but it would seem she is being followed... Then, she begins to suspect that her husband Drew might be cheating on her. He has been very secretive of late, and has lied to her about his whereabouts on more than one occasion.
Even more concerning is the fact that Kathryn's life seems to be in danger.
Set almost entirely in the month of April, the story follows Kathryn as she navigates the increasingly disturbing events of her life. The plot flowed well, and I was entirely engrossed in Kathryn's story.
Though there were twists that were not overly believable, they did not spoil the novel for me one iota. I enjoyed the ride.
With themes of deception, secrecy, and plagiarism, this novel had a decidedly feminist ending with a 'happily ever after' vibe for those who appreciate satisfying endings.

This book fell very flat for me. A woman is being followed and suspects that something is going on. The book just seemed to drag despite being pretty short. I lost interest at page 100 then skipped to the ending and realized that the ending also seemed pretty lame too.

This was okay. It was a quick read with a lot going on, but it all worked out nicely in the end. I think my main problem with the story was DAMN did Charlotte cause herself a lot of unwarranted heartache over something she could have just grown a pair of balls and asked her husband about. I know, without all that drama we probably wouldn't have had much of a story but still, dang lady you sure don't know how to communicate with the man you've been with for 25 years.

Intricate, compelling, and sharp!
April Storm is a captivating, suspenseful tale that takes us into the life of devoted wife and mother Kathryn Walker as her life suddenly gets turned upside down when it quickly becomes apparent that someone is watching her every move and is more than willing to do whatever it takes, even resort to murder, to be rid of her forever.
The writing is sharp and tight. The characters are vulnerable, troubled, and multilayered. And the plot is an ominous, twisty tale filled with manipulation, familial drama, deception, lies, jealousy, obsession, secrets, revelations, mayhem, and murder.
The passing of Leila Meacham in September 2021 was a tremendous loss for the literary world, and it’s an honour to be able to read anything she wrote. April Storm is not the typical novel we’ve seen from Meacham in the past several years, as she swept us away into stories taking place in the past, such as Dragonfly and Roses. Still, it is nevertheless a clever, tortuous, cunning page-turner that kept me guessing from the very first page and ultimately left me surprised, satisfied, and thoroughly entertained.

Katherine is married to a doctor and their grown children are happy - life is good until she gets the feeling that someone is following her. As things escalate she finds an ally in a good samaritan with skills in dealing with people up to no good. All signs point to her husband but could it be someone else who is wanting to get rid of her? There is still a good story here but I felt that too many coincidences were happening to make it and the ending plausible. Her fans will be happy but I think this one was not published when the author was alive for a reason. My thanks to the publisher for the advance copy.

Yeah, I just did not get into this at all. I thought the summary was interesting, but it didn't grab me when I was listening, and I had to keep upping the speed of the audiobook to stay with it, and I kept zoning out.

Wow I really enjoyed this authors writing she drew me in from page one and I couldn't put it down. It was a quick read and it really made you feel sorry for the FMC she's truly cursed in the month of April that's for sure.
Kathryn feels like someone's watching her and she feels like her husband doesn't really seem that concerned. She decides to take matters in her own hands with the help of Mike a rancher she's seen in town. Quickly this turns into a fast paced suspenseful thriller with loads of twists.
I enjoyed this very much. I'll be back for more from this Author.

Oof. You know I hate the month of April. So the premise of this book had me hooked. It really is the worst month and for all of the same kind of reasons.
Someone is watching her. Gathering all the information he can on her. She knows someone is watching her. Mike - a stranger and former military guy - tells Kathryn a man was tailing her and now he is determined to find out who this man is and why he is following Kathryn around.
Mike’s wife was murdered and he’s vowed to never let anything like that happen in front of him again. If he has the power to help, he will.
Kathryn is married to Dr Drew Walker an orthopedic surgeon, but lately she feels something might be amiss in their marriage. They’ve been married for 25 years, but traumatic pasts scar them both.
Oof! This was a wild and fun one to read. I don’t know if I’m coming out of my “every book sucks” slump, or if it’s just a really great read, but I was here for it regardless.
With short chapters and a compelling mystery this is a one-sitting type of read. I love how we as readers have so many theories as we’re reading this one. It wasn’t predictable and I appreciated that.
My only issue was the ending, only because it’s not my style.

I won this book in a Goodreads Giveaway. The description sounded interesting but it turned out to be a bit of a disappointment. The main character wasn't very believable or interesting. And, the plot was not very convincing.

So you’re telling me that you “get stalked” and tell your husband and he’s like, “eh, idk probs not.” AND then he starts to lie to you and often says things, “I have life altering news - let’s discuss this in the morning over pancakes, night night!” Also says things like “behest” in casual convo..? AND you go and chill out at a ranch with randos and love his coffee and dog and thanks for saving my life but byeeeeeeeee and then the “stalker” is someone that is kind of brought up for two seconds in the beginning? And woah now you’re a doctor! And thank god he didn’t cheat, only lied and got you in HEAPS of debt but let’s move and live happily ever after!!

Wow, this one was not at all what I expected! I thought it'd be a straightforward domestic thriller but boy does it take an interesting turn. Katherine is your typical doctor's wife, she has given up her dreams of a career to raise her children and do charitable work. As she is going about her life, she finds herself being followed by a stranger and is terrified at the prospect. Her relationship with her husband is strained as he enters a new career and he doesn't believe her so she takes matters into her own hands. What is actually going on is not at all what you think and I really loved that. It's rare these days that a book offers a surprise and I really appreciated that.

I was suspicious, along with Kathryn, from the very beginning. Something was up, and it was frustrating that no one—especially her husband —was taking her claims seriously. I enjoyed this type of thriller story because it had me questioning everything. There were several moments I wanted to yell through the pages and say, "No, Kathryn, don’t believe a word he’s saying; he’s purposely steering you in the wrong direction." And to find out, I was leading myself in the wrong direction! Ah, yes, this story ran deeper than I realized for Kathryn—much of it had to do with who she was and wanted to be. It was an interesting one, and I liked it.

This was such a heartwarming, tender and introspective read. This reminded me of the resilience it takes to weather our own personal storms, which we often do behind closed doors. I loved all the characters and their intricate personal relationships.
It started slow for me but took off right away. I will say the pacing occasionally lags, but I was so drawn in by the plot and finding out what was going to happen I breezed through the lagging parts.
All in all, the emotional depth and satisfying ending make this a worthwhile read.

when kathryn notices a man following her around and weird things are happening with her husband- she has a stalker and she needs to figure out why. this is a super face paced thriller that had me hooked from the very beginning.

This is a very quick, domestic thriller that I flew through. I wasn’t expecting much from this to be honest but I couldn’t stop listening to this, except to sleep 😂 I really liked that this didn’t turn into your typical twist during domestic thrillers and I loved that we had so many unreliable characters. This was a solid read and highly recommend the audiobook!

A satisfying read start to finish. The pace is fast with unexpected twists and a wholesome justice is dished out among all the scoundrels with the good guys ending up on top. So, not based in reality but a filling, exciting, excellent read.

Slow and anticlimactic. Potential tension with the premise of "normal woman has to deal with dangerous stalker," but it's ruined by immediately dropping a super competent special forces expert in her lap. No tension, no twists or surprises, by the numbers and unsatisfying.
