I received a copy of this audio book to listen to as part of the listenalong hosted by Tandem Collective UK.

***AUDIO BOOK VERSION***
Still Beautiful is a book every woman needs to read or listen to! This book was not only authentic and uplifting but also makes you look at things that have happened to you in a positive light and embrace yourself and your journey with pride and compassion.
Katie raises some very relevant and current topics, especially for women 30+. The book also reflects on what it means to age well within a world that has too often made women feel irrelevant, discarded, or invisible for going through the natural ageing process yet men get nothing but positivity for aging the same way.
Katie's story is inspiring and is one I've followed since picking up her very first book Beautiful. If you've not heard of her or her story, I strongly suggest you check her out. She is one of the most humble and honest ladies with so much to give, and I loved that she narrated this book herself. Her voice is soothing yet uplifting, and the whole of the way through the book, I felt I had been sitting down having a good chat with a good friend. The moments to pause segments at the end of each chapter are very thought-provoking and reflective, and I loved doing these each day. This is certainly a book I will be returning to many times in the future.

“Our looks change throughout our lives, so they’re an unstable foundation on which to build our identity.”

📖S Y N O P S I S📖
After surviving a life-changing acid attack at 24, Katie Piper redefines ageing as a privilege rather than a loss. In this empowering audiobook, she shares reflections on self-worth, confidence, and embracing visibility in a world that often sidelines women as they grow older. A celebration of resilience, growth, and the beauty of ageing.

As I neared my dissertation this year and had to choose a research topic, one of my top picks was how women and ageing are reflected and discussed in society. As I get older myself, it’s something I reflect on often. We all know that when women age, society tends to make us feel irrelevant and invisible simply for going through a natural process which we should all feel lucky to experience. For some reason, most likely financial 🫠, there is a massive emphasis on your worth depending on your appearance. As you can see, I’m very passionate about these topics so with that mixed with the empowerment I have felt from Katie in her previous books and her general persona, I knew this book would speak to me (literally).

Katie narrates it herself which is always a plus. Each chapter focuses on a different aspect of life, ending with space to reflect and thought-provoking prompts that made me pause! I appreciated Katie’s insight and how she wove in parts of her experience after the attack, linking them to wider issues around ageing, beauty and self-worth. So much of what she said in this book aligns with my own beliefs. I found myself nodding away to certain points and even finishing her sentences out loud before she did! I especially appreciated the inclusion of Simone Biles withdrawing from Olympic events to prioritise her mental health. It was a powerful reminder of the importance of choosing your wellbeing over external expectations.

This book feels like a celebration of women and quite frankly, we need more like it! It’s honest, uplifting and a much-needed reminder that there is REAL BEAUTY IN GETTING OLDER 💖.

A deep reflection on beauty ideals in relation to age, and choosing to debunk myths and redefine beauty on one’s own terms. Katie has overcome so much from surviving rape, sepsis and an acid attack, to become an inspiring public figure, mother and wife. She encourages us to “own each and every year”, “take up space” and live beautifully on our own terms.

Some of my standout quotes:

“Maturity isn’t about age; it’s about experiences and mindset.”

“Wisdom, resilience and maturity don’t just land on your lap at a certain age, like a birthday gift from the universe. They can only be gained by means of experience.”

“We can’t choose what happens to us, but we can choose how we respond.”

“Don’t let the hard things define you.”

“We’re all products of our past & we don’t have to be prisoners of it.”

“The power to determine … who you become, lies in one person. YOU!”

“Getting older simply happens, but maturing is a choice.”

How can you reframe today’s challenges as an opportunity for growth?

“Our looks change throughout our lives, so they’re an unstable foundation on which to build our identity.”

“Who we are is so much more important than what we look like.”

“We can embrace our physical changes knowing that they don’t define us.”

“Ageing is not a problem to be fixed, or a disease to be cured.”

“The goal is to accept ourselves for where we are.”

“Life is exhausting enough without turning in on yourself.”

“Say goodbye to what’s behind you so you have space to embrace all that’s ahead.”

“We can take back control of how a situation serves us, even if that situation was completely out of our control.”

“You’re not defined by one thing.”

“Nobody is one thing alone. You can’t be summed up by one label, no matter how much more convenient that would be for other people.”

“People can only accept me properly if they actually know me. And if they reject me, that is their decision.”

“As I owned my story, I gave myself the ability to write the kind of ending that I wanted.”

“Whatever you’ve been through in the past; it doesn’t have to be what defines you as you move forward.”

“You may well be a product of your past, but you don’t have to be a prisoner of it.”

Which part of your story do you find it difficult to make peace with? How could you rewrite the ending so it’s something you’re proud of?

“When we lose something, it makes space for something else.”

“Failure isn’t final, and consistency counts for more than we give it credit for.”

“Mistakes are part of a life well lived.”

“The more I know what I want, the more the weight of other people’s judgement lifts.”

“When life is tough, I know that I’ll be more resilient when I come out of the other side.”

“If everyone likes you, you’ll probably end up not liking yourself.”

“To me, to take up space means being unapologetic and voicing our opinions.”

“Being told no doesn’t mean never.”

“Authenticity is the daily practice of letting go of who we think we’re supposed to be and embracing who we are.”

“I will no longer accept criticism from someone I wouldn’t go to for advice.”

“You fall to pieces before you can pick yourself up and put yourself back together again.”

“Anger isn’t wrong. It’s just an emotion that’s trying to tell us that something isn’t right.”

“When we don’t care what others think of us, we are at our most powerful.”

This was the audiobook I so needed to listen too right now! There's been so much going on in my personal and family life the past few years, that I have been so guilty of neglecting myself, my worth and my values.

Katie speaks candidly of her own struggles in life since her attack, and offers up impartial advice on how it feels to be a woman, to feel beautiful, and to embrace the ageing process.

Narrated by Katie, her story is testament to what it is to feel alive and to have appreciation in everything, however small it may be.

An inspiring and encouraging listen.

I absolutely loved listening to Still Beautiful alongside a tandem listenalong group. I do enjoy non-fiction and self-help style books, but I was still surprised by how much I loved this one. Katie Piper is authentic, and her honesty and openess is Beautiful. This book reassures us that aging is not wrong, but a privilege and not something we should be trying to halt, and that beauty really is an inner rather than outer thing. we are encouraged to live the fullest life we can by being our authentic selves. I love that the end of each chapter leaves us with a moment to pause and consider some deep questions so we can embrace our true selves. it is really eye-opening to consider some deeper truths. I loved some self-reflection time each day on this listenalong. I will definitely think back on these chapters for a long time and hope to continue regularly checking in with myself to remain authentic and true. It is a wonderful book that reflects the wonderful author Katie, as well as reflecting the wonder in ourselves. #stillbeautiful #stillbeautifullistenalong #katiepiper #dklivinguk #tandenlistenalong #listenalong #TandemCollectiveUk

I feel completely charmed by the wisdom and compassion in this book. There is a notable absence of self-pity, and if I had gone through what Ms Piper has experienced, I don't know if I would have found the strength of character that she has done over the years. She's a good deal younger than I am and our lives don't have that much in common, but I really related to her thoughts on ageing, and beauty, and being a woman in the world, and death. She seems to be a very open human being, allowing herself to move forward and to better not only her own life but those of her family and the users of the charity she founded in her name.

I did hesitate before buying this audiobook, but it wasn't long before I realised what a good choice I had made. I am doing a lot of thinking about these issues myself and I have learned a lot from it as well as enjoyed the feeling of getting to know the author a bit since she does show her vulnerabilities. Parts of it were extremely moving.

This is a book I would recommend. The author was dealt a really tough hand in life but she's played it like a champion and I wish her the best of fortune going forward.

Although I’d never listened to an audiobook previously, I really enjoy a memoir, and after reading the blurb for this, I knew I needed to read it!
I’d heard of Katies story around 2009 and always thought how incredible it was for her to share her story so publicly. I didn’t however expect to have related so much to her words.
She explores in depth the beauty standards and the general standards placed upon women and the toxicity surrounding this. Aging was a huge topic, which so many of us feel uncomfortable or even scared by, even though we know it’s inevitable.
It really made me open my eyes to just how much women are judged in this world. We’re told it’s much better now that it used to be, but is it? How often is an older man called a ‘silver fox’ when he’s aged well, but we don’t have a women’s equivalent, it’s only ‘she looks good for her age’.
How often have you as a woman been asked when you’re getting married or having children?
Why is there so much pressure from society to be married with children? It’s no wonder women fear aging more than men.

I really enjoyed the chapter on self-care and self-love, highlighting the importance of taking care of our own needs. It’s so easy these days when life gets busy to neglect our needs, but it’s only when these needs are actually met that we can be the best version of ourselves. So take that extra hour in bed, have an hour long soak in the bath and eat the last slice of cake, because you bloody deserve it!

Having Katie narrate this and hearing the words spoken from her made this so much more raw and inspiring. Fantastic.

I don't always read books by celebrities but this one caught my eye. This was such an inspiring read. To go through what Katie did at the age of 24, she could of let it get to her but through therapy, facial surgery and support it has only made her stronger and made her the person that she is today. The book did have some sensitive subjects but they were handled with care. I found the book inspiring and it did make me think at times. I found Katie's writing beautiful and it drew me in from the very first chapter. I highly recommend it to other readers.
🧡I listened to the audiobook version which was part of a listen along with Tandem Collective UK.
💝 Thank you to Tandem Collective, the author and publisher for my audiobook copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

What can I say about Still Beautiful other than WOW what a listen!
I wonder if Katie Piper realised when she was writing this that it would be a therapy book for women. Because for me that’s what it felt like, a beautiful read whilst someone was there with me encouraging me to be proud of who I am, to celebrate the successes in my life that were important to me, to celebrate what makes me me and to not let anyone tell me any differently.

Each chapter got you thinking about a different aspect of life and impacts everyone differently. From celebrating and being proud that you have built the successful you want or making that decision to focus on family, to finally deciding to break away from unachievable beauty standards set by the media. Re-enforcing or making you realise that it doesn’t matter that if what is right for you and your life differs from everyone else, it doesn’t make you less deserving and you should not be judged for that.

This is more than a book it’s a celebration of women, a message of hope and a reminder to be yourself and be it unapologetically.

We all have battles and pasts and Katie reminds us this is what makes us all unique and special. This book will make you think, recognise your achievements and be proud. It recognises the challenges many women still face and the respect and recognition we too often have to fight for. A thought provoking inspiring listen.

“Be unapologetically you and act like you belong in the space, because you most certainly do.”

Where to start with this review? I listen to audiobooks driving to and from work so, although I often enjoy them, there’s always that association with going out to work. However, I very much looked forward to hopping into my car each morning to listen to this one!

Katie narrates the book herself and she brings her signature warmth and honesty to every line. Katie talks about her own journey from the value she (and others) placed on her looks in her early twenties, to the trauma of her acid attack and the years of rehabilitation and finding herself again, to her experiences of aging in a society which tells us that we shouldn’t let any signs of getting older show. I particularly enjoyed the chapters where Katie discussed reframing aging in our minds and recognising the benefits and experience we hold as we get older, her discussion of women feeling emboldened to take up more space in society as they get older (this one really resonated with me), and on body neutrality and self-acceptance.

This book is heartfelt, honest and inspiring in the way it encourages you to reflect on your own views and experiences. I really enjoyed completing “moment to pause” activities after each chapter, taking 10 minutes to myself to reflect each day - something that many of us don’t do in our busy lives but is essential for our wellbeing.

Part memoir, part self-help book, I highly recommend this one for women everywhere 🙌🏻

A beautiful affirmation that as we grow older we become empowered by experience and overcoming setbacks. It is confirmation that we have resilience and that we can overcome the hard times.
Katie Piper is an amazing and inspirational woman who has undergone so much challenge and suffering in her life. At the age of 40, she looks back on her experiences and how they have moulded her, changed her, allowed her to get to know her real self and not the self which was moulded by society and its expectations of how a woman should be. She writes in a gentle and non judgemental way which really strikes a chord of empathy.
This is not a book about what to expect when growing older and how to accept it, it is rather stating that life gets better with wisdom, insight and maturity, that age is just a number but with it, we are better equipped to face life's adversities and challenges and that it is never too late to live life to the full.
A beautiful and inspiring read.

I absolutely loved this book. There’s something so powerful and intimate about hearing an author narrate their own story — it adds a raw, emotional layer that draws you in even deeper and makes the experience feel profoundly personal.

I’ve followed Katie Piper’s journey for years and have always found her incredibly inspiring. She’s the kind of person whose story has something to teach all of us, no matter what we’ve been through.

This book is part memoir, part self-help, blending lessons from her own life with thoughtful guidance for her readers. It’s about learning how to live a full, meaningful life after experiencing trauma or hardship and learning to accept and enjoy aging. We all have our own battles, mine are nowhere near the scale of Katie’s, yet I still found so much wisdom in her words.

This book is for anyone who questions their worth. An amazing book that whilst listening i felt i was having a conversation with a friend. Usually i am not a fan of self help books and find them sometimes patronising. This book felt different giving a positive outlook on aging. Each chapter ended with a moment to pause which felt like a therapy session. This book has really helped me look at certain parts of my own life and myself with an attitude not to be so hard on myself and to re-adjust my feelings and be kind to myself.

Inspiring. Made me think differently about the way I react to others comments, accepting who I am for what I am. Will think differently from now on, try not to get so upset about things, speak my mind more and be less accepting/more verbal about disagreeable comments made by others.

This book felt less like reading and more like catching up with a wise and thoughtful friend. Katie Piper’s voice, both literal and literary, is warm, honest, and full of those lightbulb moments that stop you in your tracks. Katie has a way of saying things that should be obvious but somehow aren’t until she gently spells them out. From body image to self-worth, grief, confidence, and everything in between, it’s all delivered with kindness and clarity. I found myself nodding along constantly, grateful for the reminder that strength doesn’t have to look loud. A huge thank you to Tandem and the team for the chance to join this listen-along. I’ll be thinking about this one for a long while.
