I am a Drakarn forgemaster, sculptor of steel, master of fire. My world is heat and metal. I control the flame, bend it to my will. But her? She is wildfire. And I am losing control. Selene is flame wrapped in human skin—fierce, unyielding, utterly captivating. She speaks in sharp words and soft touches, a warrior and healer who sets my blood ablaze. Her presence consumes me. Her scent lingers in my lungs, her ferocity fuels my hunger. To the depths of my soul, I know she is my mate. But I cannot claim her. She is off-limits. Untouchable. Yet when a deadly sickness strikes Scalvaris and the only cure lies deep in the treacherous Harrovan Mountains, I am the one who must go with her. The one who must keep her safe. The pull between us is undeniable. Every glance, every breath, a battle I am losing. She is determined to find the cure. I am determined to resist her. But when the mountains test us, when fire and danger close in, I will show her the truth written in my soul… She belongs to me.
On the volatile world of Volcaryth, survival isn’t guaranteed—especially not for humans. Selene (h) never asked to be here. She didn’t plan to end up in a city carved into volcanic stone, surrounded by towering, fire-breathing Drakarn warriors . She’s a medic doing the best she can in the middle of a health crisis, just trying to keep her people, and her patients, alive. Alien warrior Vyne (H) is a forge master haunted by duty and scars he doesn’t talk about. When a mysterious illness begins wiping out the Drakarn healers, he’s forced to work with Selene to find a cure. But the deeper they go into dangerous territory, the more they realize their fates aren’t just linked by circumstance. They’re bonded in a way neither of them understands, and both of them fear. As the sickness spreads, tensions rise, alliances shift, and more humans surface with stories of survival and trauma, Selene and Vyne have to fight for more than just a cure—they’ll have to decide if love, trust, and a future together are worth the risk. A steamy, alien-human, fates mates, enemies-to-lovers vibes, sci-fi, action romance, exploring survival, trust, trauma, healing, and what happens when two people from different worlds are thrown together in a fight they never meant to start—and a bond they can’t walk away from.
The third story in the Drakarn Mates, Drakarn forgemaster, sculptor of steel, master of fire, Vyne and human healer Selene's engaging story held my interest and kept me turning pages. I received a copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Dang! I pretty much trashed the previous books in this series. I said I wasn't going to read any more of them.
Obviously, I lied. Like a dog.
And I'm glad I did. This book was SO much better than the previous ones. The characters had much greater depth and were more interesting to read. There was an actual plot--contrived, but still, a plot. There was a ton less focus on all things being hot, molten, fire, and melted. The constant flood of fire alliterations were cut way back. There is a real romance between believable, adult characters. They shared some of their past and talked openly about their future.
There is still a pile of huge holes in the world building, which is mightily frustrating. We still know virtually nothing about the power structure or government of the society. We know there's another group or city (?) of the same dragon beings near the mountains, but we don't know why, why there's conflict, etc. We've still not met any females of the species, other than the head healer who is sick and hardly says a thing. Another human female is discovered in the mountains, but we still don't have any picture of how that happened. The females in the main caves, where this story takes place, who are military and part of the original group, can't shed any light on where this woman came from or if there are other survivors or how many. Since the original group was supposedly in charge, how can that be? And again, no human men? Why?
Still so many questions. Most of the framework of this story should have been in the first book.
Since this third book is good, I will look forward to the next one.
Scorched by Fate is the third book in the Drakarn Mates series and the couple who lights up the pages this time around are forgemaster Vyne, he of gloriously emerald scales and his human bond, medic Selene. Every time Selene is in Vyne’s presence her scent reaches deep inside him to a place that burns only for her, a battle against which he is slowly beginning to lose. Not because he doesn’t want her, but after being witness to the political upheavel that befell his fellow warriors when they bonded with humans he has been loath to face the same. So he keeps away as much as he can until an unknown disease begins to spread amongst the Drakarn healers and a possible plant cure, Vyrathis, that only grows in the Harrovan mountains must be obtained before the disease spreads to the population. So he and Selene must make the journey together, and being in such close quarters is bound to stir things up between them because Selene just happens to feel the same pull towards Vyne. When a moment of danger almost ends Selene’s life all Vyne’s excuses not to claim her shatter. I so enjoyed this third book which was loaded with sexual tension, danger, intrigue, action, adventure, surprises, great writing, world building, and passion. This is a fantastic series that I’m sure other readers who enjoy dragons with their Sci-Fi romance will adore!.

Drakarn forgemaster Vyne knows immediately he is drawn to his human mate, medic Selene. She is so much more to him than just a healer. But taking action on his strong attraction would put her in danger, despite how much he craves her. As difficult as this is, he makes sure to stay away from her as much as possible until an unknown disease affecting the Drakarn healers requires immediate attention. There is a possibility that a special plant, Vyrathis, might have the properties to save them and keep the disease from spreading. But the unique plant is found only in the Harrovan mountains. That area used to be a proving ground where young Drakarn warriors who thought they’d finished their training would come and test themselves. Surviving was not easy but if they were successful, it made them something beyond mere warriors. Selene and Vyne will now be the ones sent out on this dangerous mission to locate the plant and return in a timely manner. Proximity makes it more difficult than ever for them to resist the pull that each is now feeling toward the other. He is amazed at her determination and courage. But when he contemplates losing her, will he be forced to give in to the pull and claim his mate at last? Will she be ready to allow that?
So many Drakarn warriors are falling for our crash landed human females. Selene is a warrior and a medic she can't stand to see others in pain and will do whatever is necessary to help. They've been stuck among the Drakarn for months and she has spend the majority of her time in the healing caverns learning as much as she can when a Mysterious illness starts taking down the healers within the cavern. 1 healer whispers about a certain herb That it's very rare and very dangerous to find that might be able to herlp. Vyne is one of the best most elite forge masters that the Drakarn have. He's know for months that Selene is his but has done e studying he can to stay as far from her as possible to avoid anymore conflict among his people. When the sickness strikes the healers and he is charged with getting Selene to the place where the paints grows his restraint snaps. Danger lurks all over the planet everyone and everything is out to kill you can Selene and Vyne find what they need deal with their growing feelings and save the healers!?!? You need to read and find out! Good story I'm off too the next to see where the plot will take us.💖🌟🔥💖🔥🌟🌟💖🔥🌟💖🔥🌟🔥💖
Vyne is happier dealing with his forge and working with the implements he crafts than dealing with people - his own or the intrusive earthlings! But he's pulled towards Selene, a human medic. He quickly realises she is his mate but he doesn't feel worthy of her.
Selene takes her medic duties seriously and when the Healers taking care of them start to drop like flies with a mysterious illness, she takes it very personally. So much so she ensures that she's goes on the mission to find a very rare medicinal botanical which may be the key to their recovery. She just has to get the huge green tinged alien warrior/blacksmith to take her along!
Vyne and Selene are a great couple. They both take their duties seriously, often to the detriment of themselves. Selene feels that tug but she gets all up in her own head and manages to FUBAR everything up between them. Don't get me wrong, Vyne isn't an innocent bystander but when he cracks and gives in to the attraction between them, he goes all in!
There are a few new characters introduced and Kholar seems to have gone into full on protector mode with a new Terran inhabitant who has been through 9 levels of he!!.
Vyne has been trying to avoid that nagging feeling that Selene is the one meant for him, but the Universe just keeps throwing them together. When they set out on an important mission together he sees even more of her strengths and is reminded why he started falling for her in the first place... Can he convince her to take a chance on him?
This done in one kindle unlimited book centers on the responsibilities we feel towards our friends and community. Some are self-imposed, others come with our jobs, but often they are part of what make us a meaningful part of a team... not just that we take these things on, but others know we will follow through and deliver. Selene is the one who understands how others work, and uses that to help everyone stay on task and work together, she's also the one who just won't give up, and inspires that same determination in those around her. Vyne spends this story learning how to care for and support such a dynamic woman.
Action filled addition to the Drakarn Series, great characters and storyline This has been one of the most all action reads in this series so far and I know that other readers will find it just as enjoyable as myself, although I must warn that once you begin reading all household chores except tea making will come to a halt. It is simply too good to put down for a break. Vyne and Selene have known almost from the very start that there was a very special connection between then and even with all of the troubles that are hitting them they endeavour to explain and ensure that their human mates are accepted before they openly declare their truth about having found them, this is a very delicate balance and both Vyne and Selene and Darrokar and Rath know the importance of timing and following etiquette. I thoroughly enjoyed the book and look forward to reading any future publications; keep up all the wonderful writing.
Selene is a human healer with the heart of a warrior, she doesn’t back down and is willing to stand up for what she believes in.
Vyne is a forge master dragon with many eyes watching and waiting to find a way to control him. He is also watching and wanting Selene even thou he fights their attraction.
When an unknown illness attacks only the Drakarn healers all species must work together to save their lives. A mystery plant may be a possible cure and Selene and Vyne are tasked with embarking on a treacherous journey to bring it back.
Both have been in denial about their attraction for each other, out away from prying eyes will they allow themselves to make that step towards each other or will the dangerous journey rip them apart in more ways than one?
Things were a little slow in the beginning but once the journey began their skills and their passions are brought to the fore front.
I received an ARC and I am leaving an honest review.
Vyne a Drakarn forgemaster, notices Selene--how she stands out from the rest of the humans. Her scent hits him hard. Vyne does not need, or want a human mate. Vyne saw how dangerous it was for Darrokar, and Terra to prove their mate bond. An unknown illness attacks the healers, and Drakarn warriors. Selene, and her friends work desperately to find a cure. Vyne, and Selene are selected to find the healing plant in the mountains. Vyne, and Selene make the difficult journey. Vyne can no longer deny the mating bond. They are successful in finding the plant. Vyne tells Selene, that she is his mate, upon their return. Selene struggles with this revelation. Selene concentrates in saving the patients. Will she accept the bond? I enjoyed reading this book!!!! There is love, passion, and action.

When a deadly and contagious illness strikes the community of Drakarn healers, military medic Selene is tasked with accompanying the brooding and unfairly hot Drakarn blacksmith Vyne to the remote and treacherous Harrovan mountains to harvest a rare plant that only seems to grow there.
On their journey the pair clash with each other and rogue, feral Drakarn intent on causing them harm and thwarting their mission.
In the meantime, Vyne is certain Selene is his mate and he’s determined to protect her at all costs, even if she resents him for it.
This is a high heat, action packed installment in the Drakarn warriors series in which they find their human mates.
I was fortunate to have received an advance reader copy from the author and booksprout, and I’m pleased to share my honest review.
Scorched by Fate is the third book in the Drakarn Mates series. Like the previous stories it contains humor, chaos, action and Drakarn aliens, a hot atmosphere and a challenging world. And let’s not forget the steamy romance. Vyne and Selene are as different as it can get, he is a forgemaster, she is a combat medic, they are not even the same species. He knows she is his mate but he has no intention of doing anything about it. Kate Rudolph created an interesting world, then peopled it with interesting people and finally created wonderful stories about them. I truly enjoyed this book and recommend it to anyone who likes fantasy romances.

What a great book!!!! The romance portion is definitely slow burn but the adventure and suspense is there for you the whole time!!! A sickness affects only the Drakarn Healers in the city of Volkaryth and the humans who’ve been apprenticing with them are stuck trying to heal them. Meanwhile Vyne and Selene are trying to deny their mate bond…and the only cure they’ve found is located in the remote mountains outside of the city…can Selene and Vyne survive the wilds outside of the city…and each other…And still save the healers???
Beautifully written, this story takes you through all the feels…soooo goood!!!.

No Use Denying Wow! Another rollercoaster story in this series. Very hard to put aside to take care of my household duties 😊From the first moment Vyne saw Selene he knew there was something more between them, but with all the troubles Darrokar and Rath had to have their human mates accepted, he denied the attraction. Selene did the same. Until Fate interfered and sent them on a quest together. Very strong characters, each in his/her own way, working for the greater good of the community and its individual members. Loved the book, love the series. Highly recommended. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Scorched by Fate by Kate Rudolph continues the Drakarn Mates series. Selene was a combat medic and is now serving to save the Drakarn healers who are suffering and dying from a mysterious ailment. She and forge master Vyne are ordered to do find a plant far away in the mountains that will save the afflicted. They must fight off the feral Drakarn of the wilderness several times while on the mission and manage to save another human female. All the while the two give in to their feelings and become a mated pair much to the chagrin of the Drakarn priests.

I found this series really captivating! The FMCs are stuck on a dangerously hot planet, and their alien protector adds a delightful layer of mystery to the story. Even amid all these challenges, love blooms beautifully between the couples.
I was pleasantly surprised to discover that Drakarn come in different colors! This time, the MMC is tall, green, and has a fascinating obsession with the FMC. At first, they seem a bit hesitant to be together, which totally makes sense given their predicament. But then things take a turn! It’s really sweet to see how the MCs gradually give in to their feelings and eventually find their own happy ending together.
Vyne, Drakarn forgemaster and warrior, has felt the pull to a human and tries to resist. Fate intervenes when a deadly illness strikes the Scalvaris healers. Selene has been working with the healers and when they fall ill she and her fellow humans must find a way to save them and keep it from spreading. A search mission for a rare plant, a hot Drakarn, and danger seals Selene’s fate. Wonderful descriptive battles and world building. A great addition to this series.

this was a strong third entry in the Drakarn Mates series, it had that element that I was looking for and was invested in what was happening. It continued the story perfectly and the characters continued to feel like they belonged in this universe. I enjoyed the romance element to this and how everything was used to tell the story in a realistic way. Kate Rudolph has a strong writing style and was glad I got to read this.

“Mine,” he rasped again, quieter. Surrender. Demand. 'I laughed, the sound stripped to bone. My tongue was tied in too many knots to say anything in response.'
I really enjoyed this book. It was a fun adventure in a serious situation to bring back a plant to cure a dangerous spreading unknown illness. I liked both Selene and Vyne. He was determined to resist his attraction and burn for her. She was just as attracted to him. Their journey only served to bring them closer and reply on each other. Both lives, and their hearts, were at stake in this quest, and I was all in! 4 stars.
She is forbidden can he handle it when she is his mate? This is Selene and Vyne's story. What will happen when a illness falls on the healers? Could it lead to others? Selene is human healer with a strong back bone. They are both sent on a task to find the plant that could help. Can they keep their feelings for each at bay? Will they find the plant? Will his kind treat him different like the others that took human mates if he accepts her as his mate?.

Vyne and his human healer needs to go and find a cure that is in in a jungle like environment. A natural healer that has botany skills with a sassy attitude and a can-do attitude is what Vyne needs in his life. Great Adventure. Brow lifting passages that make you want to reread it again to make sure you understood what you read. Obstacles of course that they have to overcome in order to find this treasure that can cure all. Very good read.

Vyne knows the trouble mating a human will cause in his life - he’s seen it with Rath - so he tries to resist the urge and defy fate. Selene is just trying to survive and provide the best care for her patients. One outbreak and a desperate search for a cure force Vyne and Selene together - and force them to face fate. I loved how these two fought to ignore their bond (silly characters) and I particularly liked, once they gave in, how Vyne trusted and supported Selene. Another fantastic read in a fabulous series.
-An action-packed, high-heat sci-fi romance where duty, destiny, and desire collide. Vyne, a forgemaster, and Selene, a combat medic, share an undeniable bond but struggle against their own fears and responsibilities. With intense battles, steamy romance, and a richly built alien world, this installment in the Drakarn Mates series is an addictive, unputdownable read.

This was another great addition to the series and I love Vyne and Selene together. He's a forge master and she's a combat medic. Opposites, really, on every level ;) As you may imagine, they didn't figure they were meant to be but fate had other ideas. With a ton of action, danger, intense battles and steamy romance, this was a page turner for me. The author continues to build a fantastic world and I'm looking forward to the next book :D
Thought the first half was a little slow seem to be a longish buildup but once we collected The Cure a lot of twists and turns began to happen. Fight scenes were really very good. Sex was spicy moderately described and very enjoyable. I enjoyed following each of the main characters as they struggled to resist fate.

Vyne and Selene, the two of them are like statues. Fighting what is going on between them. Then all of the Healers gets sick. The humans are immune to what ever it is that is making them sick. Very trying times to find what they need to help and keeping each other safe. Excellent story I enjoyed it so very much. Looking forward to the next book. What a romantic epic adventure! Vyne and Selene set off to find a cure for his people. Through dangers untold Drakarn and planetary , all while trying to keep distance between them, Vyne vows to keep Selene safe. Love the storyline, as well as the characters. It's a fast paced action packed adventure with steamy romance. Loved it!.
