‘A Longtime (and now the boss) Ex-boyfriend’ was entertaining. Its plot involved a wedding to attend, an ex who would be in the wedding party, trying to get a date, meeting up with the bad boy, dramatic irony, humor, a new inn owner, a new manager, a wallaby, an unfortunate power dynamic, switched glasses at the reception, more dramatic irony, more humor, team building exercises, burning a letter, and falling in love. Moreover, Lucas and Riley, the protagonists, were ideally suited for each other and oozed chemistry. Additionally, I liked the author’s writing style: wonderfully written characters engaged in hilarious scenes, an amazing storyline that was captivating, and vivid descriptions including humor, figurative language, imagery, and down-to-earth word choices that created a lively tone, such as, “The staff here felt like family—a quirky, dysfunctional family at times, but still a family,” and “ Her future spread out before her in dismal detail. Her friends would find love and settle down. Riley would spend her life at work, come home to an increasing number of stray animals, and then die alone.” Overall, I liked the fascinating narrative.
