My grumpy dragon boss doesn't want a mate and I don't want him either! In fact, he's the last guy on earth I can see myself with…
he fires me with no warnings for a totally stupid reason. Rude!
If I thought he was a jerk when I worked for him, that's nothing to the way Kivrayn makes my blood boil now. So I went to work for his biggest rival, looking for my opportunity to have my revenge.
It's like he goes out of his way to make me glaring at me across a crowded auction room; frequenting my favorite coffee spot. He even turns up on the only date I've had in months and completely ruins it! What a prick!
Only, the more we keep running into each other, the more I start to wonder if the heat in his stare is more than hatred.
When a drunken hate f*ck turns my world upside down, it's time to admit that the fire between us is explosive in the bedroom. But that's hardly a good basis for a relationship, and dragons mate for life. Have I bitten off more than I can chew?
I can't be bound to the grumpiest, bossiest monster I've ever met, for the rest of my life…

I didn’t love this. I found both main characters highly irritating. The MMC was particularly bad. By 80%, I still didn’t want them to get together, so I knew I probably wasn’t going to love the book. He was way too mean and i could not see any reason for the FMC to stick around. There wasn’t any chemistry. My biggest issue was the end of the book. I don’t understand why there was this big thing about the poison and threats only for it to get resolved off page. The MMC also locks the FMC away, acts like a complete asshole, and does not grovel at all. He actually has the staff forbid her from entering his house… after he went on about how she’s his mate and whats “mine is yours” blah blah, also he’s the one who fucked up yet she’s banned from the house? Ok…

I enjoyed this one a lot. My favorite part about their relationship was their banter. I loved how even after they decided to be civil to each other and try getting along they never lost that bickering and back and forth they always had. Even after they started getting hit and heavy they were still arguing over everything 😭
As they spent more time together they were able to see a different side to each other which made them understand the person a lot more. She was very independent which I loved. She neverrr kept her mouth shut and will say whats on her mind. He was super protective and possessive. Even though he might be grumpy a lot he had a lot of sweet caring moments.
Them together were definitely explosive. I feel like their chemistry got more and more intense the more time they spent together. They were sooooo hot together I shouldn't have been reading this at work. Besides them being super compatible In bed, they were helped each other open up and be able to deal with certain things in their lives that they were putting off.
I really enjoyed this one a lot. Seeing them go from basically enemies to F buddies to developing feelings was 🤌🤌🤌. One thing this author gonna do is write an good steamy romance book.
Ps. I would love a book/short story about the sweet sweet orc we met here.
*** I'm gonna be completely honest here and say that the main characters grew on me after a couple of chapters. At the very beginning of the book I found them a bit annoying just bc of their actions and their entitlement. I very much agree with her getting fired😭. How you gonna do the one thing ur boss told you NOT to do??? And then get mad at him for firing you. But the boss was very out of line with some of his comments too. They definitely grew on me a lot as the book went on but man during those first two or three chapters I just wanted to shake them. 😭
I didn’t like Loren, or Kiv, but I didn’t totally hate their whole rivals to lovers arc. What I did hate was every other aspect of the plot.
It didn’t make sense and really dragged in some places:
1. How was her brand new boss okay with her going to London for so long, or like never going to work again?
2. Why did she reconnect with her family just to not make any sort of progress with their relationship?
3. Why did he have to bite her so many times?
4. Who was threatening her? (like serious that subplot was dropped so fast, I was confused)
In fact the whole ending backpedaled on any growth the characters had, I hated it. If you read this, just stop reading after they mate on the rooftop. Everything after that is not good in my opinion.
Fired by My Grumpy Dragon Boss is such a fun enemies-to-lovers romance. The chemistry between Loren and her grumpy dragon boss, Kivrayn, is so hot. Kivrayn is definitely the grumpiest boss yet in this series. I couldn’t get enough of him, and there’s a lot to love. Two to be exact. 😏 The brat/brat tamer dynamic had me kicking my feet the entire time — every argument just adds to the heat between them until it explodes. If you’re into grumpy MMCs, excellent banter, and some of the hottest spicy scenes I’ve read this year pick this one up!
You had me at grumpy dragon then stole my soul with double dongs. Ami writes HOT HOT HOT monster romances and this was no exception. Grumpy dragon boss? Yes please! Bold bratty FMC who gets what she wants. YES! This was such a fun read and I am absolutely loving this series!
This is what I was talking about - that angsty enemies to lovers story. To me it was delicious, and I loved it so much.
I loved both characters. Loren was beautiful, feisty, and sweet. She loved working for Kivrayn's firm, but she couldn't stand his behavior towards her. He was constantly at her face and following her at every step. When he fired her, she went to his biggest competitor, and he was even angrier than before. One of the things I loved about her was that she wasn't backing down at all to his growling and angry face.
Kivrayn was definitely one of the most grumpy and angry characters I've ever read. He couldn't stop himself from stalking Loren and being constantly around her. At one point he found out she was his mate but was convincing himself he didn't need one. Even then, he continued meeting her at different places and wanting her more and more. Both of them were really stubborn when it came to accepting their feelings, but a mate bond could not be stopped.
The love scenes were extremely hot, with so much spice in them. The dom/brat connection was really strong, and there was lots of smut and kink between those two. Some scenes were really surprising for me as well 🥵🥵🥵.
Overall, I loved reading "Fired by My Grumpy Dragon Boss."
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 3.75/5 I love a monster romance and this one has a lot of tension and burrrrn (hahah- get it? Dragon? Burn? 😂). A little lighter on the plot and heavier on the personal dynamics and sexual tension/spice. The banter is super fun between the two of them with some REALLY fun brat tamer action. I enjoyed this read! Will I reread? Yes! Would I recommend it? Overally, I recommend the series to rom-com monster lovers out there!
Amazing tension between these two! They really have it out for each other…if only the truth was embraced. She assumes he hates her, he’s just running from a mated bond. In the end he fights for her while she in turn takes her time accepting him. Some yo-yoing with these characters but they keep you wanting.
Loren’in onun ‘eşi’ olduğundan oldukça emin ve yanında kendini kontrol etmekte zorlanıyor.
3.25 stars. Loren, the female human auctioneer lead, has had a tumultuous, tense relationship with her boss, Kivrayn, the male dragon auction house owner lead. When he fires her for a frivolous action that she feels he led her to take, Loren takes a contract position at a less prestigious auction house, determined to make Kivrayn regret firing her.
Kivrayn has many regrets, including meeting Loren at all. Determined that he doesn’t want a mate, he’s very unhappy to find himself drawn to her, much the way he’s been told mates are. Even after she’s no longer a daily presence in his life, he finds himself unable to forget her. When they’re thrown back together by circumstances, Kivrayn finds himself in a no-win position…
This story is dual POV, well written, and sweet and steamy, contemporary fantasy, dragon/human, enemies to lovers romance. I enjoyed the personal strength of Loren’s character, and the way she didn’t bend to the pressures around her, though I felt she, at times, leaned into stubbornness unnecessarily. I was amused by Kivrayn’s grumpiness and enjoyed seeing him learn to adjust his perspective. I found some of their banter entertaining. I struggled with the amount of time, especially at the beginning of the story, that the lead characters were separately on the page. Whilst I’m not generally a fan of the enemies to lovers trope, I’ve enjoyed everything else this author has written, so thought I’d try it. Unfortunately, this story really wasn’t for me. However if YOU like enemies to lovers romance, with high snark content and a bratty approach to life, this story may be for you.
I received a complimentary copy from the author and this is my voluntary honest review.
Ami Wright has done it again. I have been beyond obsessed with this Grumpy Monster Bosses series that Ami Wright has going and this one has to be my new favorite so far. To be fair, Ami Wright has made them grumpier each time a new one is written, but I do just love the Dom/brat dynamic in this book aside from the grumpiness level at an all time high.
This book checks off quite a few tropes: enemies-to-lovers, Dom/brat, size difference, fated mates, touch her and ☠️, and more I probably can’t think of.
Following Loren’s POV, one where she simultaneously cannot stand Kivrayn but also finds him insanely attractive is such a ride, and one I personally found funny and thrilling to be on. Her inner monologue, a bratty one at that, had me laughing more often than not, and pair that with her strong personality and ambition, and you’ll find she’s a boss babe through and through.
Kivrayn! Man, oh man, this grouch. Kivrayn figured out earlier on that Loren was his mate but took quite a long time resisting it. His constant warring within himself really made for the grumpiness and dynamic between he and Loren, and I loved every second of reading about it.
If you’re looking for a push/pull, instant attraction but a fight against it, high burn, and deliciously spicy book, Fired by my Grumpy Dragon Boss is the book for you.
Better Than Expected (and Only Minimally Annoying!)
This one actually surprised me … in a good way. Monster-romance-adjacent books usually drift into the “okay, now y’all are just being silly” zone, but this one held it together and kept things fun without getting ridiculous.
I’ve read this author before, and she’s been hit or miss for me, but this one definitely counts as a hit. The heroine had her goofy moments where I wanted to tap her on the shoulder and say, “Focus, please,” but it did add to the humor. The hero was peak grumpy-and-in-denial, landing him firmly in my “minimally annoying, occasionally endearing” category.
Was the plot predictable? Absolutely. Did I still breeze through it? Also yes. The pacing worked, the internal monologue got a little chatty, but nothing that made me roll my eyes too hard. And underneath all the sarcasm, there were a few surprisingly sweet moments.
Overall, a fun read … and I’d pick up this author again, cautiously optimistic.
I absolutely loved Loren and Kiv!! Loren is feisty, smart and knows her worth. She's independent and refuses to dim herself for anyone. And then there's Kiv. He's a grumpy, no-nonsense, has to be in charge Alpha who is not looking for a mate ever. Until he meets Loren and cannot control his urges to know everything about her. Consciously, he doesn't want her. Subconsciously, he's obsessed. And I'm here for it! The internal back and forth he has is hilarious and sweet and hot! The banter between Loren and Kiv is also hot! On the surface they absolutely loathe each other. So of course it's explosive when they finally give in!! I would give this more stars if I could because I loved it that much!! Grumpshine, enemies to lovers, a dragon shifter and close proximity when they are forced to work together!
I didn't enjoy this book as much as the previous book, mostly because I did not like either of the MCs. I found Loren unduly stubborn and oppositional, while Kivrayn was just too nasty for my liking. I honestly didn't see what she saw in him. From the get-go they were at each other's throats. Sometimes I found the pace a little slow and had trouble maintaining my interest. I also felt like the ball was dropped on the poisoned drink plot with no resolution. However, the characters slightly improved 3/4 of the way into the book, and the plot had its fun moments and occasional fun banter, as I expect in a book by this author. There is also excellent world building and some really interesting spicy scenes. If you don't enjoy the dom/sub vibe then this may not be the book for you, but if you do and you enjoy snark, banter, fated mates and somewhat nasty MCs, then you may love this book. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Loren is a brat. That seems to be almost her entire personality. Kiv is a selfish Asshole. Oh and a dominant dragon.
They are both will fully abrasive to each other and live to one up each other which means we were in for some verbal sparring and some rough and dirty hate sex.
There isn’t much to this book plot wise as the focus is on the animosity and simmering tension as they fight their attraction. It lost me towards the end.
Dragon MMC | Double Peen 🍆 | Age Gaps | Fated Mates | Rivals to lovers | Forced Proximity | Billionaire Romance | Stalking & Abduction | Spicy Power Play | Interconnected Standalone | Dual POV | 🎧8hrs
Another great supernatural standalone by Ami Wright!
I have to admit it: at very first sight, I was not a fan of Loren... but as I got reading and found out more about her backstory, I eventually ended up really liking her! And what to say about Kiv?!? Tall, lean but muscular, billionaire, grumpy but super sweet later on, a dom, AND a dragon!!! Yes please! I fell for his grumpy @$$ immediately!
I recommend this book to anyone who wants a sweet and spicy standalone. This will do more than the job, trust me!
When is the last time you read a book in one sitting??
There is so much build up and angst between Loren and Kivrayn! Kiv is a grumpy and bossy dragon who demands that people obey him. Meanwhile, Loren is a stubborn sassy brat who loves to test boundaries. It is a battle of wills, but damn when they finally break, their fire is so hot 😍
⭐️⭐️⭐️ (3/5) This was a fun, spicy romp featuring grumpy × grumpy characters who are delightfully stubborn and very into their kinks. The dragon shifter comes equipped with some very unique anatomy, which definitely made things… interesting. The whole fated-mates-but-pretending-they’re-not bit worked well, and while the plot isn’t exactly groundbreaking, it did what it needed to. Overall, a solidly entertaining read, even if it won’t blow your mind.
⭐️ARC REVIEW⭐️ (4.25⭐️) Is there anything better than two dummies trying to fight fate (because who even knows why at this point) that end up being pushed together even more so! A fun, spicy, silly story that I thoroughly enjoyed every step of the way. Ami can write just about anything and I will read it at this point because I know I will have a good time before it's all over lol
This series links to the Monstrous Deals novella series by way of location (Heartstone) but doesn't include the same characters, so you don't need to have read any of the others to enjoy this.
Ami writes spicy romcom goodness with cinnamon roll/ golden retriever MMCs (even though sometimes this side of them is only for the FMC!).
The FMC in this book is a sassy, take no BS, short, curvy woman. The MMC is an obsessive, possessive typical dragon... And you know how some reptiles have diphallia? Yeah, that.
🔥 “If you want a leash, little brat, there’s only one person at this table who will be wearing one, and it won’t be me.” ~~~ Loren is the best! She’s sassy, fierce, charming, outspoken and very skillful in her profession. Even more, I loved her stubbornness, determination and that she wouldn’t settle for less than what she wants. And her brattiness and her love to test boundaries made me adore her even more! Loren is absolutely awesome and I loved her so, so much!
And then, there’s Kivrayn, owner of Firestarter Auctions! Ohhhh, that dragon is soooo grouchy! Even more, he’s bossy, demanding, possessive, obsessive and quite growly. Yup, Kiv has quite the temper! But the scowly and overprotective dragon is also absolutely irresistible! I couldn’t get enough of his filthy mouth and delicious dominance and couldn’t help but adore every single thing about him!
I absolutely loved everything that happened between Loren and Kivrayn! Even when working together, they couldn’t help but butt heads and when Kiv fired Loren things got even more heated. Those two were absolute fire (pun intended)! Their constant bickering, banters and teasings were an absolute delight to read. And I loved that both Loren and Kivrayn were so stubborn, determined, fierce and competitive. Those two definitely couldn’t stand each other and, at the same time, they couldn’t stay away from one another. And when they finally gave into the undeniable desire and need, the passionate moments they shared were blazing hot and I absolutely loved all the naughty and kinky delight. Loren is quite the brat (which I loved) and definitely needed a dragon Dom to give her everything she needs (which I loved even more). Kivrayn and Loren were so, so perfect for each other and I couldn’t get enough of either of them!
Overall, the story is another remarkable, fun and very naughty addition to the series and is definitely one of my favorite stories so far!
I couldn’t put it down and devoured and absolutely loved every page of it!
I hated most things about this book. In fact, there was maybe one or two things I did like. The FMC was super whiny and petty and an unlikable character. she’s also super entitled and can’t understand why she gets fired for breaking literally the only rule set for her. I also really don’t understand anything that happened plot wise because she gets this entire inheritance for essentially having lunch with some old lady. It makes no sense. She spends next to no time with her and this old bag just gives her $1 million. It made no sense. Also, she’s super petty about her whole family drama stuff again back to the entitled nonsense. And don’t get me started on the MMC. He is a stalker and abusive and mean and I don’t understand why she would be into him or why anyone would be into him for that matter. And he’s got the world’s pettiest reason for not wanting to find a mate. It made no sense and was supper petty. Then at the end, there’s this whole stalking Poison scare that is resolved off page, which makes no sense again and the MMC locks. Her in the house makes her a prisoner refuses to listen to her and is essentially super abusive toxic. And she just comes back to him in the end and they fuck and everything‘s good? Also, don’t even get me started on the anal sex with literally no lubrication or preparation or talk of consent prior to the act. This was yet another abusive, toxic and unhealthy representation of BDSM and king play. I hate stuff like this because it unhealthy representation of safe sex and communication. This book was essentially just bad porn and I might as well have wasted my time scrolling through toxic videos on porn hub for all that this was just poorly written erotica with no real plot. Honestly, I think this was just bad writing. She clearly did not plot out this book at all. It was just overall bad. The other two in the series were better than this one. This is definitely the worst by far but overall, I would give the series 2 maybe three stars. maybe she’s just a bad writer.
ARC Review, DNF at 40% I absolutely adore Wright's Monstrous Deals series but the Grumpy Bosses series has been very hit and miss, I hate that this was a total miss for me.
The characters are just both petty, angry people, especially the 'hero', he's one of the worst alphaholes I've read in a long time, he treats her like garbage and stalks her at the same time, he's completely obnoxious. The heroine is annoying I think because she's being constantly provoked by him so she just seems catty and unlikable as well, even though her retaliations are valid. They fight, argue and bait each other constantly and it just isn't remotely romantic or fun to read, it just made my blood pressure rise. Despite their hatred of one another, they're visually attracted to one another and I read the first steamy scene, which makes no sense how it occurs as they both detest each other but somehow give in to temptation? The spice was still full of spite and cruelty, I was grossed out not only by his abusive treatment but by the drooling, gagging and eye watering going on, nothing swoonworthy about that.
This volume also has a ton of business world dealings and office stuff, phone calls and meetings, all of which I find excruciatingly boring, the author avoided this is a couple of the other good books in the series, but this one feels very plot heavy on it. I like the idea of the auction house for the business and the drama you could have with bidding and such, but I just wasn't enjoying it.
That's basically it, I just wasn't enjoying this volume at all, I found it infuriating, toxic and gross. I hate to be negative when I've loved this author for so long and I still can't wait to read more from her, but this one just took the Grumpy too far.
Gleeful Goblin Review: Hooooooooo boy, this is a ZESTY ONE and I am about it. This story is all about fighting fate, not wanting to accept someone is meant to be yours forever, and what happens when you run face first into your destiny no matter what. Both of these two dorks are intensely stubborn and determined that they hate each other and that couldn't be further from the truth. The fiery feelings between these two are evident from the very first interaction and the harder they fight the attraction between each other, the more the universe pushes them together no matter how far they try to run. Kivrayn states it flat out: "Unbelievable! I fly halfway around the world to escape from her, and, once again, she somehow manages to intrude where she’s not wanted."
There is brat-ery galore and all the fun that goes with attempted taming of brats, so prepare for this to be a little more on the zesty side of spice when it comes to adult fun. But this author knows how to beautifully balance all these elements together and create a story that's still about love and finding your very own happy ending. 5/5 Stars
A rather long enemies to lovers story, where every page is worth the words written upon them. While I really enjoyed the story I am left a bit unsatisfied… left with a few questions that will probably not be answered. Spoilers, in a way, due to the questions related to the story.. . . . . . I honestly don’t like the way the whole stalker, who tried to poison her, just disappears and we have no clue who it was. Her dragon lover just “took care of it”… there are three children who have been jilted out of their fortune and honestly, I suspected her new boss, since she went on the trip on the company’s time, without any results. The whole warehouse business, despite being the second best auction house, screams seedy… and I’m sure he would have felt that the objects to auction off were rightfully procured by his business, since she was employed by him at the time of receiving the inheritance.
But no.
Just radio silence.
Also, I’m hoping to read the story between the sweet orc and the unknown mail order bride.
Fired by my Grumpy Dragon Boss by Ami Wright book 3 in Grumpy Monster Bosses ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🌶🌶🌶💀 Smoldering hot, steamy office romance. Loren, a feisty FMC works at Firestarter Auctionhouse for a grumpy, yet sexy dragon boss. However, Kivrayn is obnoxiously domineering, and absolutely scowly in other words tantalisingly delicious MMC. When he fires her an office slow burn turns into rivals and a delicious enemies to lovers ensue. A push and push fated mates drama, filled with past traumas. There is a fight for a precious collection to see who ends up on top. A crazy old lady influence changes everything. Loren and Kivrayn's banter and sassing is so much fun to read with bratty behaviour being punished. Trope Enemies to lovers. Rival businesses. Dragon double peens. Fated mate. Rejected mate. Quote “You’re such a little brat, aren’t you, Carandang?”“And you think you can tame me?” I scoff.
“I should be able to resist you. I should. But I can’t.”
Notes: I received a copy of this book as an advanced reader, but all thoughts and opinions are my own.
What I Liked: 🐉 Kivrayn was everything you’d expect in a dragon boss…grumpy, obsessed with treasure, overbearing and incredibly powerful. Basically the perfect monster romance hero!
What I Didn’t Like: 🐉 Loren was incredibly independent almost to a fault. But I also have to say that she didn’t make Kivrayn grovel enough. I would have made that dragon get in his knees and BEG!!
Final Thoughts: 🐉This checks every box for monster romance readers…tension, monsters, and lots of spice! Definitely would recommend.
