A Murder Most Novel: A Small Town Literature Circle Cozy Mystery

Rate this book
Four women, one book club, and a murder…

When café owner Hazel Thompson and her friends—reserved librarian Libby Moore, former socialite Daphne Sinclair, and sarcastic bookshop clerk Charlie Banks—select a classic whodunit for their first book club meeting, they never imagine fiction becoming reality. But the morning after christening themselves "The Deadly Delights," Hazel discovers the cantankerous owner of Page Turners bookstore, Gordon Hargrove, dead among the shelves—with a bloodied copy of their book club selection by his side.

Though the police dismiss it as an accident, the four friends aren't convinced. Gordon had plenty of enemies—disgruntled customers, unpaid suppliers, and even his own nephew who stood to inherit the store. As they start investigating, their amateur sleuthing lands them in increasingly dangerous—and sometimes hilarious—situations.

When Hazel's disastrous attempt at subtle interrogation leaves Detective Ethan Graves with coffee-soaked pants, when Charlie discovers a coded ledger hinting at rare book forgeries, and when Daphne tackles a suspect with a stiletto heel, the women realize they've stirred up more than small-town gossip. Someone in Plotwick is willing to kill to keep their secrets hidden, and the Deadly Delights have just become the next targets.

Can this book club solve their first real murder before one of them becomes the next victim? And will Charlie ever admit that her constant sparring with the handsome detective might be about more than just solving the case?

A MURDER MOST NOVEL is the first in a delightful new cozy mystery series that combines bibliophile delights, small-town charm, and the unbeatable sleuthing power of female friendship.

Pretty standard cozy with older sleuths in the second blush of life. You have widows, divorcees and a friend that is still married. The book is pretty stead paced but nothing is surprising about it. it's a good evening or weekend read.

This is the first in the series. The main characters are Libby, Charlie , Hazel and Daphne. They have formed a book club , The Deadly Delights and are investigating the murder of a bookstore. The cops seem sure it's just an accident but they are sure he was murdered. They are trying to prove it and have gotten notes telling them stop or else. Can the set the proof they need before it's too late ?

Four friends form a book club to read mysteries together. The club name is Deadly Delights. Next thing you know a cantankerous book store owner dies. He has a copy of the book they were going to read in his hand Although the police believe he died by accident the girls don't believe it. This leads to investigation and boy what trouble they find. I am interested in reading more of this adventurous group

The Deadly Delight Mystery Club amateur sleuths are horrified when the owner of Page Turner's Bookshop is murdered.  There was a lot going on than it seemed with secrets, forgery and blackmail complicating the matter. A captivating read with humor which has an edge of the seat finish.  I enjoyed this read and recommend this book to other readers.

A fun first book in a new series

The four women decide to start a book club and discuss the book in the cafe after closing. No sooner do they begin discussions of their first book when the bookstore owner in town is found dead. Lots of twists and turns and a surprise ending.
