Nicole Leiren’s Vengeful CONspiracies is a cozy mystery that blends small-town charm with high-stakes deception, offering readers a twisty tale of loyalty, revenge, and personal reckoning. As the second installment in the Sadie Sabatini Mystery Series, it deepens the emotional and narrative threads introduced in book one, while standing firmly on its own as a suspenseful and character-driven story.
Sadie Sabatini is trying to rebuild her life in Wilson, Texas, where her boutique Tesoro is finally gaining traction and friendships are beginning to bloom. But peace is short-lived. When two former teammates arrive, they bring with them a mutual enemy bent on revenge—an enemy whose death soon turns Sadie’s fresh start into a tangled web of suspicion and danger.
The central mystery hinges on whether Sadie herself is the target of a con, and Leiren cleverly plays with this ambiguity, layering the narrative with shifting alliances and psychological tension. The stakes are personal, and the emotional fallout from Sadie’s past decisions adds depth to the unfolding drama.
Leiren explores themes of trust, redemption, and the weight of past choices. Sadie is a compelling protagonist—resourceful, loyal, and emotionally complex. Her interactions with her former team members are particularly rich, revealing the scars and bonds of shared history.
While the premise is strong, the pacing falters slightly in the first half. The buildup leans heavily on backstory, which, though emotionally resonant, slows the momentum. Once the murder occurs, however, the narrative tightens, and the mystery kicks into gear.
Vengeful CONspiracies is a solid entry in the cozy mystery genre, ideal for readers who enjoy character-driven suspense with a touch of emotional introspection. Though it could benefit from a brisker pace and sharper emotional stakes, Leiren’s storytelling talent shines through.
If you’re drawn to mysteries that balance personal drama with clever cons and small-town intrigue, Sadie Sabatini’s latest adventure is worth the read.

I had mixed feelings about this book. It was a little confusing at the beginning, but later on, I found out there's another book before this one, so that made sense. Even though I didn't read the first one, it wasn't hard to catch up with this one (maybe they're not that connected — I’m not sure).
I really liked Sadie as a character, and her interactions with people in general were amusing. Her friendship with Kelsey was also something I enjoyed. The book itself felt kind of slow-paced. There were times when I was bored, but also times when I was excited — hence the rating.
Although there was a lot of mystery around the identity of the killer, the reveal wasn't that surprising in the end. Also,
Trouble seems to follow sassy Sadie Sabatina! However her quick wit and dogged perseverance keeps her one step ahead of her former friends and foes. In this second book in the series, the author , Nicole Leiren, reveals more about Sadie's past life and acquaintances. Additionally, we learn about a possible romance and her life as a trouble magnet. Sadie's sarcasm (blue light special) makes me LOL and I look forward to the next Sadie Sabatini Murder Mystery!
This second in a series about Sadie Sabatini, a retired ex-con artist who worked with a team. One day Sadie sees Miles Gentry, the target of her team's con, in her new hometown. Unable to leave her past in the past, Sadie has to learn what Miles is doing. This was a cozy mystery, but I felt the solution was easy to solve. I do enjoy the characters and recommend reading the series in order.
