Lines Drawn is book 5 in the Crimson Bonds series and ends on a cliffhanger. All books in this series must be read in order. This is a dark MM and MMM+ story with various pairings and relationships. Please see inside for the full list of TWs.
This is an Amato Family (All's Fair Series by Abrianna Denae) and Martelli Family (Vendetta series by Leigh Kenzie) crossover. This is not a standalone story. At least one of the series, Vendetta or All’s Fair, needs to be read first to truly understand the dynamics of this story.
Abrianna Denae is a queer author living in Northern California. An English major, they have always had a passion for writing. Deciding to sit down and write one of the many stories that had plagued their mind for years was the easy part—finding the time to do it was a different story. Caffeine is their best friend, and sleep is their worst enemy. A lover of books that make the reader feel something, Abrianna tries to incorporate as much of their real-world views and feelings into their stories as they can.
A dark, MM+ Poly romance where 2 mafia families have to work against a common enemy! Oh what a ride it was! I read this in 8hrs, 90% in 1 day itself. I'm so hooked in this series, it's becoming my fav—something I look forward to each month.
I wrote a rant after reading it a month ago, I was thinking of changing it... But eh, it can be my review! It gets my feelings across. Just go with caution! There maybe some spoilers.
OMG Guys, I've literally just completed the book, OMFG. The authors apologizing at start put me on edge! Like oof, I was scared. Then the triggers had me anxious (it isn't that bad, good ol' torture of bad guys is always fun but...)
Lil 'ol me was wondering if we'll get pairing of Hollis+Alessandro or Tennant+Emilio due to little hints, I never expected these pairings, but fuck ya, everyone's kissing so why not? Idk now tho as everything got FUCKED to hell! I can't believe dear Iggy became the catalyst, but omg, that was bubbling beneath the PTSD??? The emotional toll was heavy, I was tense throughout. I literally be reading this while waiting for bus, while eating haha.
OMG I'M SO GODDAMN MAD AT THE BOSSES. LIKE FUCK YOU. I hope they win, I hope they don't "crawl" back to you! You took them for granted, you didn't respect them! I don't care if you've trauma, that doesn't give you a right to abuse them like this!
I don't even remember if there's much smut, I don't even care, cause boy, what a ride this was! My heart's breaking but I'm glad they can show how strong they've become now. I'm sure their enemy will use their fragmented families tho, that sucks for them, but they brought it on themselves!!
I was loving the vulnerable scenes (Hol 🥺) we were getting, as they've all been through hell. I'd wanted them to be forced proximity into 1 place again, I definitely didn't expect them to blow up. That ONE DAY was freaking hilarious tho, with the stabbiness to everyone 😂.
I'm so happy we got Hol+Lio's & Antonio+Jude's relationships progress, so sweet. Most others' relationships are solid... Ugh, other than you know the boss's STUPID SHIT. LIKE OMG, SO FOOLISH. I HOPE THEY GROVEL HARD. UGH. I'M SO SAD FOR LIO & CARTER 😩.
Ahem, so anyway, I had a fun time. I was anxious, laughed, got a bit misty eyed, I didn't sob tho (maybe as I actually haven't read the main series as adviced, so I'm connected to em all by only this series, so I'm not so sad if the older relations fracture?). The next book blurb gives me hope & I CAN'T WAIT, I'M SO EXCITED. But I'm even more scared that the authors say it's gonna be their darkest books lol. The poor guys are gonna go through so much!
Story ratings: Enjoyed—> 5/5 POV: 1st Person, Multiple POV s 1) The Characters: 5??/5 I'm mad at 2 tho... 2) The feels: 😕🤭😅🙃😉🥺😬😳🥰😩😱🥴🤔😤🙁 3) Sexy/Steamy scenes: idk atleast 1 😅 (TW) 4) Levels: Moderate Angst, Kinda Cute, Moderate Dark (see TW) 5) Build up & Style: 4.7/5
Give me two to five business days to come up with words and to get over the heartache...
Edited.....still not over it. Cristian and Carter have been my favourite couple since their book. The way they fell apart in this broke my heart. They were going to have a baby together!!!!! And now Cristian is being awful and Carter appears to be moving on. 😭😭😭😭 And don't get me started on Alessandro. Right now, I'm blaming him for everything. Maybe I'll change my mind as the series progresses.
The comment Cris made about Carter not being Roman's father? 😭😭😭😭 Oh my poor Carter.
I am so proud of Roman in this book. He's really grown into a great leader.

This one is one hell of a ride, and following the hook of the last book, the Martellis and Amatos are forced together again as various members of the family need to heal. Whilst this series has always shown lots of chemistry and steam, this one is about the tension between the different relationships within the families. There's anger, violence, heartbreak and loss. The two families are fracturing as the bosses fight for control, and the hook at the end of this one makes me wonder where on earth it'll go next. This feels like an epic mid-season finale. I can't wait to see what happens next.
Whoa. Just whoa. Not sure what else to say, I’ve been left speechless. This book was a wild, dark and rough ride. The bosses are back and trying to take leadership over their respective families and it’s not going well for anyone. The last book ended with an explosive cliffhanger and this one picked up where it left off. It was rough. So much happens in this book and I don’t want to give any of it away because if I gotta live through the surprise and trauma of those twists and turns blind, then so do yall. I love these characters, from both Mafia bosses, to the loves of their lives, to every member of their families. I adore so many of them. But my heart is a bit broken and I’m hurting with these men. I couldn’t have predicted what came to fruition in this book and where this journey has currently led us. All I can say is, I’ll trust these two authors because they’ve never let me down and they always blow me away with the drama, the angst, the love and the darkness (which I love dark, so bring it on!). They both did an amazing job writing a story that was gripping, unexpected and unpredictable while staying true to their characters natures and handling these curve balls with that feral edge we all love. I honestly have no idea what will happen next or where this goes from here but i have a feeling the bumpy ride is only going to get worse, so hold on to your seats folks, it’s about to get rough. I couldn’t put this book down, I was sucked in and devoured it. Masterfully written as always. Can’t wait for the next book in this twisted and dark mafia tale.
This book will be difficult for some to read. Please pay attention to the authors' warnings.
**This review may not read as a positive. It's going to seem dark, heavy, and might have you wondering why I gave a five star rating. But the thing is, this book is dark, it's heavy, there's no smiles or laughter within. This is a harsh and painful time in the story. And to me, I think this book accomplished what the authors needed/wanted it to. I'm heartbroken while also feeling proud and needing to know what's next.**
With that out of the way, let me tell you, I was lost in the words. Everything has fallen apart, and nothing is ever going to be okay again. At least, that's how it feels, but I know Leigh and Abri will bring things around... somehow. It's hard to imagine how forgiveness is possible. With so much said and done, I know that I could never recover from the damage.
There's something horrible that happens to one of the Boys. My heart broke for the disloyalty shown. My head was unable to wrap around how a certain person, well, people really, changed so, so drastically. How they so easily chose the person they did. I don't believe their feelings are real like they think. I think, once they start healing and maybe get some therapy that they'll realize what they're doing isn't from love, it's a copping mechanism, not real love that is meant to be. One of them was so happy with the love of his life. Neither him nor his love had any desire for anyone else. They were solid. It hurt my heart to see this man suddenly want another. Some things are perfect the way they are, and the absolute love and devotion this couple had for only each other was beautiful. It was powerful. And, I guess, that sudden change should have been a sign that something was seriously wrong with him. It's hard witnessing the implosion of friendships and relationships, but also of an individual themself.
With every low blow, every knife straight to the heart, every devastating act committed (especially one very soul crushing violation), it became impossible to not shed a few tears for these men who could never have foreseen these perfidies coming. The crippling pain one experiences from a complete violation to not just your body, but your entire being is suffocating. To have your abuser be someone you know, someone you trusted, someone who is supposed to protect you, to love you, the damage done is unimaginable. So, as the authors described the pale and lost look, the lifeless eyes and defeated body. I could see it with my own eyes. That may sound weird to many, but if you know you know.
There's so much more I could say about this book. I just don't want to turn my review into a fifty page short story. But I do need to say how proud I am of Lio, of so many others too, but especially Lio. And how frustrating it is to not know who the Puppet Master is. These people are good, too good for my liking. If our side doesn't start making more moves, I may be bald soon. We have two of the best hackers so let's get busy dismantling the enemy. One name on the list already paid off, so let's hit the rest of them. Antonio is needed so much right now and I'm so afraid something is going to happen to him. He is forever getting hurt. I think the poor man deserves to be spared finally. Can someone just wrap him in bubble wrap and shut him in a panic room. Marcus and Keegan, they are the light in this darkness for me. Leigh and Abri, if you mess with them in any way at all, I'll figure out how to create real life curses. They are happy, in so much love with each other, and have a perfect little family. They are not to be touched or changed in any way. Stay away from my War and Mayhem.
Okay, this is getting a bit long. I need to cut myself off. My brain just wants to keep dumping its every thought and opinion on you. We could be here for hours if I don't stop now. So, my final sentence for you is that I can't wait for book 6!
What a rollercoaster this series is taking us on. Lots of potential triggers in this instalment, so please heed the authors' trigger warnings if you may be impacted. Both authors have apologised for where their characters have lead them, but I am 100% there for it!! Given the behaviour in this book, it couldn't have ended on any other note, otherwise, none of the characters we love would be being themselves. As for Cristian and Allesandro, I think it's clear why their behaviour is escalating and spiralling, they are human. But being the Bosses, you kind of hold them to a higher standard. That being said, I'm still disgusted with the pair of them and was cheering everyone else on. This is dark, it's gritty, it's heartbreaking. And we're not finished yet! The resolution of the story is going to continue to be a bumpiest rollercoaster, flying through the dark and I CANNOT wait!!
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Well, that was a rollercoaster! My emotions are all over the place, and my heart hurts. Cristian and Allesandro have both lost their damn minds, and their actions have had catastrophic consequences.
I can't say what those consequences are, though, because I'm not mean enough to spoil the book for you. All I will say is make sure you have your emotional support chocolate/alcohol/teddy bear handy when you read this book because you're going to need them!
I had my suspicions about who was behind all of this, but now I'm not sure, and another suspect has entered the frame. I guess I'll just have to wait and see.
Oh, Abrianna and Leigh say they are sorry about this book. I don't believe them 😛
*please take note of the trigger warnings. While everything has been written with care, your own mental health is important*
I can’t say that I was super shocked by the ending of this book although I was shocked all through the book. I could see that something had to give because so much was changing and frankly I get that these two authors are having fun combining their two mafia stories. Although fun may not be the best word to describe this part of the overall story. They say that they have a plan and want us readers to trust them and the journey has been impressive so far so I keep reading, keeping enjoying and I will have to trust because they are still five star automatic reads for me. What a ride!
I don’t think there is an exclamation strong enough for how I was left feeling at the end of this book. I ran through several in my mind; Whoa! Damn! Holy f*ck! but yeah, that!
Lines drawn or When you f*ck up so badly and your Pride is bigger than an entire Galaxy to admit it.... A brilliant dark so utterly black, it shines brighter with each subsequent book. The previous one was like the warning silence before the storm, the unnatural stillness, signalling that something is about to happen, given how tense and thick the air is. And this one is the storm and the domino effect. Because in the end, everyone lies in a bed, prepared by the choices they have made. One of the main reasons I love this series is the believability of this fictional world. Because just like in real life every word, every action, every thought hurt, shape, change, hit without mercy and the consequences are often dire. The authors don't shy away from the tough choices and topics showing the intricate threads tying the characters together in a complicate web. There is no sugarcoating, no coddling, no shielding - just hearts that break, flesh that bleeds, ties that fracture and reform, crossroads to new paths and inevitable decisions that hurt bone deep. Some personal impressions without spoilers: I have always liked Carter but in this particular book he really is breathtaking. Lio - he was such a surprise in a good way. I loved his personality growth and change. Markus and Keegan - they were simply amazing as supporting characters Jude and Antonio - such a sweet, unexpected moment that brought to light part of their complexity I haven't seen. Alessandro and Cristian - sadly they are sharing the dog house, like seriously... I didn't expect what Cristian did nor could I accept it. It smells like a lot of grovelling somewhere in the future...if at all possible
I finished reading this book yesterday, and my mind is still reeling from everything that happened in this installment.
Above anything else, please read the trigger warnings and the authors' notes, especially for this book. Things take a darker turn, and while I hold onto hope that things will eventually improve, it won't be anytime soon.
I wasn't expecting Cristian and Allesandro to... well, unravel, in the way they did after their kidnapping. Without going into much detail, I wasn't expecting Cristian to go as far as he did, or Allesandro to condone it. I know that the way their families connected in their absence threw them for a loop, but the way Allesandro sided with Cristian and what he did to Lio made me want to throttle him. What is certain is that their actions had major consequences that we started to see in this book and that will definitely impact the rest of the series. Is there a way to come back from this for Allesandro and Cristian? Only Leigh and Abri know. As it stands right now, they will need to do a lot of grovelling and try to win everyone's respect, trust, and loyalty back, which won't be easy.
This was definitely darker than the previous books; it was heartbreaking, angsty, as things kept shifting between both families. I'm looking forward to how much more things are going to change after that ending. While this was a difficult book to read, I have to commend the authors for writing it so masterfully. Highly recommendable, just don't forget about those triggers!

Lines Drawn is Book 5 in the Crimson Bonds series and absolutely wrecked me in the best way. This story is chaos, anguish, survival and somehow even darker than what’s come before. If you thought things would settle after the last cliffhanger, think again. The bosses are back, but nothing is the same, and the fallout is brutal.
The tension between the Amato and Martelli families is razor-sharp. Trust is cracking, loyalties are shifting, and the emotional toll is devastating. Every character, whether boss, lover, or loyal family member feels so alive, so raw, and I felt everything with them. There’s love, betrayal, pain, and that constant undercurrent of violence that makes this series so compelling.
So many unpredictable twists and the stakes are sky-high! Leigh & Abrianna do not hold back! They've woven their worlds together masterfully, staying true to their characters while pushing them into the deepest, darkest corners yet.
This is not a standalone, and you absolutely need to read either the Vendetta or All’s Fair series first—but if you love dark mafia romance with complex dynamics, high-stakes drama, and powerful queer relationships, this series is unmatched and a definate re-read once all the books are out!
I received a free arc copy and this is my honest review.
The Amato and Martelli Families are plunged deeper into chaos as the aftermath of their Bosses’ kidnapping reveals a far more sinister plot. Their fragile alliance is tested again, with old wounds reopened and trust unravelling under the weight of betrayal. As tensions rise and loyalties fracture, both families must confront devastating choices that threaten to destroy everything they’ve fought for. In a world where survival demands unity, they must decide whether their bond is strong enough to withstand the darkness—or if it will shatter completely.
I loved this story, which intensified the emotional stakes, weaving themes of trauma, fractured loyalty, and the brutal cost of power. So many dark things happened that the story was heartbreaking and the ending filled me with despair. So many big emotions and feelings it was like watching a tennis match. Easy to read, feel and understand. This was an MMM and MMM+ story with mature content.
To quote directly from Leigh Kenzie's newsletter: 'This is one of the most feral books of the Crimson Bonds Series. There are two author notes and several triggers listed. We highly suggest reading these.' She isn't wrong. This novel was unhinged and went to places that I didn't think the characters would go. We are also warned that the next couple novels in the series are just as dark, but we are guaranteed a happy ending. The series is a little hard to follow because there are so many characters in the families -- there were mentions of and introductions of characters that I'd forgotten about. Overall, I'm enjoying having my emotions put through the wringer; these two authors are really good at it, and I look forward to more in the series.
OMG, I don’t even know what to think. I can’t possibly write a decent review because I’m in shock over everything that happened. If you’ve read the other books in this very dark series you need to read this one but beware: this is absolutely the darkest one I’ve ever read. The authors even acknowledge that “this book is not nice.” But they promise that this story is integral to things that will be happening in future books. Even though this book may have tested my limits for dark romance, I’m in too deep with this series to stop now. Please head the content/trigger warnings.
An advanced copy of this book was provided to me at my request; my review was voluntary and not influenced by the author.
When the authors said this would be different, I didn't believe them and thought it couldn't be so bad. NOPE, heed the author's note and warnings, because HOLY SH!T everything went to shit by the end of the book. What even is going on?!
I'm so anxious to know what the authors plans are, but also agree on that ending because what the bosses did were not ok. I'm curious to see how they'll fix things and how they'll go on from here.
The cliffhanger ending of the previous book leads us right into fast-paced action, danger, drama, suspense, and betryals. Christian and Allesandro have quite literally drawn the lines, and now the fallout is having long reaching consequences for everyone. I'm really livid with their behavior, and I'm definitely rooting for everyone else.
This is a continuous of the last book you should read them in order to understand what is going on with the Matellis and Amateo family. The Matellis and Amateo family are still trying to heal and the head bosses are trying to get a head of the war

I feel like my reviews of this series go with WOW! This one is no different. There is a lot that happens here both in the conundrum of WHO the heck is going after these families and OMG the bosses are not happy and may have gone insane. I was lucky enough to get an ARC so I have read it before it's release on October 2nd but that just means I get to wait even longer for book 6!
This book yet again ends on a cliff and it's a high one! I don't want to give anything away, so just clear your schedule ASAP and be ready to read. You won't be disapointed in the authors but you might want to crack some heads together by the end!
The authors kept warning that the worst was yet to come, that this might be the book that broke their readers...and they might be right. We tend to call the leads of romance novels the "heroes," even when the characters are solidly in the morally gray realm, but the risk of extending past the original "happily ever after" is that the heroes might live long enough to become the villains. I won't dispute that Allesandro and Cristian have survived a trauma, but in their frantic need to control their families now that they are home, they have handily succeeded in pushing everyone away in their misguided attempts to keep them close. The content warnings for this book are to be heeded, even for readers who consider themselves pros at dark romance. With this book, Denae and Kenzie prove that they are committed to telling a true narrative with this series, rather than simply interspersing an interesting plot amidst fun (and poignant) relationship shenanigans among their multitude of fascinating characters. The lines have truly been redrawn by the end of this book, and as much as my heart hurts for everyone, I'm completely invested in finding out how they will eventually emerge whole on the other side of this long journey. Though this book may (and possibly should) deter some readers, those who join me will not regret further committing themselves to this ride.
