Maddie Ives #3

O Rapaz Perdido

Rate this book

Early one Sunday morning, a ten year old boy walks out in front of traffic. He is dazed, confused and has bare feet. He is covered in blood that's not his own. When Maddie Ives arrives to investigate, the boy can't or won't talk. The boy is scared stiff. Then a man is found brutally murdered. Detectives Maddie Ives and Harry Blaker need to find the answers, quickly.

I love this series. They are well written and gripping storylines. Ives and Blaker have their work cut out trying to solve this case. There isn't a thing that I don't like about this series. In fact, it's one of the best ones around at the moment. The story is brutal and horrific but it's also a page turner that you won't wasn't to put down. It can be read as a standalone, but it's always best to read a series from the beginning. You won't be disappointed.

I would like to thank NetGalley, Joffe Books and the author Charlie Gallagher for my ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This is the third in the DS Maddie Ives and DI Harry Blaker series and having read the previous two I enjoyed reading about these two characters again. However, the book can easily be read as a stand-alone. Harry is irascible, gruff but honourable and likeable. He and his daughters are still grieving following the death of Harry’s wife several years previously in a car accident. They have a hard time with coming to terms with the early release of the perpetrator that caused her death and this is one storyline followed in the book. Maddie is very likeable, clever and hardworking. I like the way that Harry and Maddie interact- Harry puts up a front and Maddie is one of the few people that he allows to see his more vulnerable side. Two other characters I like in this series are Vince and Rhiannon- Vince is especially likeable.

The book starts well with the shocking appearance in Canterbury of a young, barefoot boy who is almost feral, he’s covered in dried blood and he refuses to speak. Maddie devises a clever way of communicating with him. Eventually, the team learn that his name is Alex Thompson. This is the start of a dark and shocking investigation in which several people are killed in a vicious and vile way apparently by an occult group The Left Hand Path.

The book is well written- there is clarity and authority in the police procedure as you would expect as Charlie Gallagher is a serving police officer. Towards the end the author creates a real sense of urgency into the writing as the case reaches a critical point. However, I think at times there is too much description of this lovely Kent area and over explanation and I wasn’t too keen on some of the dialogue although it didn’t spoil my enjoyment. Possibly the storyline is a bit far fetched but overall it’s a good read. I really like the emotional end of the book between Alex and Maddie and I also like Harry’s honesty.

Thanks to NetGalley for an advance copy

A young boy walks out into the traffic. He is dazed, barefooted, and covered in blood. Detective Maddie Ives is called and when on scene, the young boy either cannot or will not speak.

A man is found brutally murdered, dragged to his death behind a truck.

There is a cult of sorts behind this murder. There are 'tasks' to be done in order to reach a new plateau, a richness of life, permission to do evil. The task is to take someone's life ... if it isn't done, the newest member will become the task. There is no out available....

How are these cases connected? Maddie isn't too sure herself.. she needs to find the person or people who are pulling the strings.

But the more she investigates, the closer she becomes a new 'task'.

This is an extremely well written crime fiction. The author is himself a serving UK detective investigating serious offenses. Due to his experience, the story is credible with characters that are finely drawn and memorable

Although second in the series, this is easily read as a stand alone. I do recommend starting with Book 1 ...

Many thanks to the author / Joffe Books / Books n All Book Promotions / Netgalley for the advanced digital copy of this crime fiction. Opinions expressed here are unbiased ad entirely my own.

It’s been a while since I’ve caught up with Maddie and the gang (July2023) and I’m really excited about this third installment that sounds really good. One of my reading goals this year was to spend more time catching up with my fave characters and series. I like how Gallagher has created really great characters in Maddie Ives and Harry Bleeker. I also love when an author includes their notes (in the beginning or at the end, it doesn’t matter to me) and with Gallagher, who’s former law enforcement, he declares his respect for the job and his fellow officers while bringing credibility to his work that is reflected in his characters and storylines.

The book summary is kind of vague but does introduce the primary storyline and that’s about it. What the book summary doesn’t say is that the boy was covered in blood and it wasn’t his. It’s not long before we realize that the boy’s case is probably related in some way to the man that was dragged to death. There is another storyline of Jack, who is looking for a better life and he thinks he finds it being a part of the Left Hand Path, who are a bunch of psychos whose goal and mission is to take whatever they want.

There is another storyline of the man who killed Harry’s wife, five years ago in a hit and run, being released for good behavior from an overpopulated prison. The convict falls right back into criminal life and Harry is determined to get him sent back to prison for parole violation. It gets messy and Harry is warned to stay away from him. He ignores the warning because the convict’s release also has negative effects on one of his daughters, Melissa, who has been suffering from depression since her mother’s death.

Most of the story revolves around the investigations of the mute boy and the dragged man. The chapters flip back and forth between Maddie, Harry, Jack and Rhiannan, a young DC that Maddie is mentoring. It’s not long before Maddie and Harry start getting close to the truth of what the Left Hand Path is and their connection to Maddie and Harry’s case. There are those that will kill to prevent that so they set their sights on Maddie with an intense and scary for Maddie and the gang, with some of the final scenes leaving a lump in my throat trying not to shed a tear. I get so attached to my fave characters. This is the best installment of the series - so far.

The continuing character development of Maddie, Rhiannan and especially Harry was well done. Digging deep into their lives and backgrounds enables the reader to become more connected and invested in them and the world that Gallagher has created. I like Gallagher; he’s a good writer and storyteller. The pacing is steady to fast and the storylines interesting and suspenseful. The writing was well done as well and created intense and thrilling momentum throughout the story. I’m looking at an overall rating of 4.4 that I will be rounding down to a 4star review.

Perfect for fans of Kimberley Chambers, Damien Boyd, Rachel Abbott, Patricia Gibney or Mark Billingham, Angela Marsons, Mel Sherratt.

CHARLIE GALLAGHER a real policewoman, so knows how to tell a story and bring realism in the book.

Great characters, although a little slow for the first half of the book, heading to a three star book, but the second half really helps this book to a four star review.

The pace and excitement of the twists make this book a great read, especially for the last half of the book.

I did enjoy the rough, but soft deep down of Harry Blaker as well as Maddie Ives, two great stars of the show.

Gripping and tense last few chapters. Four stars

4.5 stars. This is the third Maddie Ives book and it was pretty damn good, the best yet. It is a police procedural but with a novel plot (ha ha pun intended), cracking pace and taut suspense. I loved it and hope there is more of Maddie to come.

TRUE CONFESSION:
After listening to two books in this compelling series, I have developed a "girl crush" on DS Maddie Ives.

Charlie Gallagher's "Maddie Ives" books are fast-paced, well-written, and intricately plotted.

Even though this book is the third in the series, the book can easily be read as a stand-alone.

I listened to the audiobook and all audiobooks in this series are read by Antonia Beamish, one of my favorite narrators.

This is my second "Maddie Ives" book and I look forward to listening to additional titles in this series.

He Will Find You by Charlie Gallagher is the third book in the DS Maddie Ives and DI Harry Blaker series and it was another brilliant book.

This book starts with a young boy walks out into the traffic. He is dazed, barefooted, and covered in blood.
Detective Maddie Ives is called to the scene, the young boy either cannot or will not speak.

Why is he covered in Blood? Its not his!!! Who's blood is it?

Why is he not speaking?? Can he speak?

A man is found brutally murdered, dragged to his death behind a truck. Are they connected?

If DS Maddie Ives and DI Harry Blaker don't stop the killer, he will strike again...........But, who will be next?

I highly recommended this series of book........Juts brilliant!

This book can easily be read as a stand-alone. However, I do recommend starting with Book 1 ...

Books in this wonderful Maddie Ives series in order:

🌟HE IS WATCHING YOU
🌟HE WILL KILL YOU
🌟HE WILL FIND YOU

Set in Canterbury Kent, a small boy around ten or eleven barefoot walks out in front of Diane Cummings car. it looks like hes walked out of Dane John Gardens, the park. he is covered in blood. D.S Maddie Ives is called in and the boy doesn't speak hes in shock. put into emergency foster care. Maddie along with inspector Harry Blakey go to find out more who's blood is all over the boy? I enjoyed this read, this series and this one is the best so far, and they don't need to be read in order. you want books to be unable to put down? this author makes sure you don't. TOP DOG READ as always .

This author is one of my favourite writers, these stories are so clever the way he ties everything together at the end. They maybe gritty crime but very well written. I can never guess what is going to happen. The two main characters Maddie and Charlie are just great detectives and roll off each other making you like them. Another great book from Charlie Gallagher.

This is the third in the Maddie Ives series of detective books and it can be read as a stand alone but, as with most series, the reader will get more out of it if they have read the previous two books first. It begins with a young boy who is wandering in traffic, covered in blood and unable (or unwilling) to talk to anyone. His shock is graphically described and I was instantly drawn into the story. Then a body of a man is found on a country road, a man who has been dragged behind a vehicle until he is dead and then cut loose. Are the two events connected?
Maddie is settling well into her new role and, in this book, we learn more about Harry's life and the terrible car accident which killed his wife. The man who was driving the other car is being released from prison early and Harry is struggling with coping with the news, especially as one of his daughters has taken the news very badly.
I feel deeply invested in these stories. I want Maddie to succeed and I want Harry to find some sort of happiness in his private life and I believe this is testament to the skill with which Charlie Gallagher writes his books. The plots are always tense and exciting and, of course, the police procedure is spot-on (as you would expect from a serving officer). I find that I start reading and cannot put the book down until I have finished the story. Then comes the dreadful depression at the thought that I won't have a Charlie Gallagher book to read until he writes the next one! I would heartily recommend this book if you are a lover of crime stories.

I didn't realise that 'He Will Find you' by Charlie Gallagher is the third book in a series, not that it mattered. This book is perfectly fine to read as a standalone. This was an excellent thriller and had me turning the pages from start to finish. I am not going to write what the story is about as i prefer one to read the book for themselves, but i do recommend.

My thanks to Netgalley and the Publishers for my copy.

Estarão as duas coisas relacionadas?

This is the third book in the series featuring DS Maddie Ives and DI Harry Blaker based in Canterbury. DS Maddie Ives had been working undercover in Manchester for years until disobeying orders meant that she had to move right across the country to a Major Crimes posting in Langhorne in the south east. Then a nasty shoot out injured her boss DI Harry Blaker and put him out of action for months and her back to CID, and once reunited they worked another particularly nasty case together. Back for good in Major Crimes and with things on a more even keel Maddie is the most senior officer on call when a young boy is found wandering in the city centre scared and in a daze. He is barefoot and covered in blood, and for some awful reason cannot or will not speak to anyone. Maddie makes a form of contact with him but there is a lot of work to be done to establish who he is and where the blood came from. Then the remains of a man are found dumped on a road. It looks like he has been dragged by a vehicle to an agonising death but why go to such lengths when there are much easier ways to finish someone off? As their investigations proceed it starts to look like some sort of weird cult is involved, promising believers a better life and demanding that followers carry out ever nasty "tasks" or risk becoming someone else's task. It is starting to look like they have another lamb coming to the slaughter and the next task may even be very close to home. Meanwhile the case of the mute boy is handed over to a very promising young CID officer since no one can be sure if the events surrounding him are even connected to another crime.
What at first appear to be lots of separate strands all start to come together as the pace speeds up to eventually reveal a dramatic ending. There is lots going on in this book but it is very well written and is never confusing for the reader. The characters are well described, and you feel that you get to know them very quickly. The plot is clever and solid, and there are clues left for the reader along the way so that everything makes sense in the end. Altogether an excellent read from a very knowledgeable author which I have no hesitation in recommending. I would also recommend reading the books in order if possible, not only for character history but to not miss out on two more great stories!

I would like to thank Netgalley and Joffe Books for an advance copy of He Will FindYou, the third novel to feature Canterbury based DS Maddie Ives and DI Harry Blaker.

A barefoot, blood soaked young boy is found wandering the streets of Canterbury so DS Maddie Ives is called to investigate. The boy isn’t talking so the police are on their own. Then a body is found on a lonely, country road. Are the cases connected?

I thoroughly enjoyed He Will Find You which is an event filled read from start to finish. Unlike some of Mr Gallagher’s other novels it is quite low key in terms of adrenaline until a pulse pounding finale. This does not make it uneventful as there are plenty of developments as the novel progresses and they all come together gradually, rather like a patchwork quilt. This is due to the fact that the novel is told from a variety of perspectives giving the reader a wider view of events than the police have. Despite this Mr Gallagher manages to keep some secrets, like the perpetrator’s identity and the boy’s role. This works relatively well but the gullibility of one of the characters is annoying. You do wonder about some people’s stupidity but, as a serving officer, the author probably sees it every day. On the other hand, I thought the perpetrator’s motive and actions suit their personality (vague, I know, but I don’t want to spoil the read).

The novel is well constructed with a good mix of suspense, procedure, developments and strife between characters. It held my attention throughout. I like the growing relationship between Maddie and Harry. Neither are open books but as the series progresses the reader gets to know them a little better. Maddie is the former undercover officer who is gradually losing her tradecraft but not her instincts as she settles in to Canterbury’s Major Incident Team. She has a tendency to act unilaterally and trust her hunches so it’s Harry’s job to rein her in. He is the experienced voice of logic, harsh but fair but with personal problems threatening to overwhelm him he more harsh than fair in this novel. It’s a good dynamic and Mr Gallagher does a good job of conveying their emotions.

He Will Find You is a good read which I have no hesitation in recommending.

One early Sunday morning, Diane Cummings is on her way to work when she sees a young boy covered in blood, she stops him and the case begins for Maddie Ives and Harry Blaker. He is scared, won't speak and covered in blood, the questions begin. Then man is found murdered. This is the 3rd in the Maddie Ives series that gets better as it goes on!
This story is, to be honest, a brutal and horrific one, but it just adds to the realism of todays policing and the world we live in. I love Charlie's writing and find he has a way to keep you in Maddie's world that is pretty unique! Fantastic book, highly recommended read for me!

The story about a great police detective combo that get immersed in an investigation way bigger than they expected.

A kid is found barefoot walking between cars in the middle of the night. Nobody knows his name, he would not talk and he is covered in blood.

Maddie and Harry work together in the police department and even though they have different characters, they make for a great investigation team.

While investigating the kid's case other gruesome murders happen. Are they all connected? Who is this kid that appeared out of the blue covered in somebody else's blood?

A fantastic thriller that will keep you hooked and entertained throughout the whole book.

HE WILL FIND YOU

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

OUTSTANDING!  STUNNING! THRILLING!

HE WILL FIND YOU Immediately shocks you with a suspicious chilling mystery. Horrific, brutal, heart racing violence. A mind boggling labyrinth. Could this possibly get any worse? OH YES!
A divisive, confusing, heart stopping race against time. Still it isn't over yet. Harrowing suspense and split second timing. Will it be enough?
Nobody writes Police Officers the way Charlie Gallagher does. They're real. They're vulnerable.  They're human. They're incredibly believable.

HE WILL FIND YOU IS A MUST READ!!!

Having read and loved the second book of this series - He Will Kill You - featuring DS Maddie Ives of the Canterbury police, I was really looking forward to reading this third book - He Will Find You - and I was certainly not disappointed!

I thoroughly enjoyed this fast-paced and very tense thriller. It grabbed my attention from the get-go and never let up. The narrative was immensely gripping and really piqued my curiosity and I loved the descriptions of the setting in Kent and the surrounding area.

The book was shocking and brutal to read in parts but full credit to Charlie Gallagher’s writing that I found myself so deeply involved with these very memorable characters. I loved the author's portrayal of both Maddie, who was a professional and caring detective with plenty of attitude, as well as haunted Detective Harry Blaker and their camaraderie.

He Will Find You was such an exciting read and I have no hesitation in recommending it. I am looking forward to Charlie Gallagher's next offering.

I received a complimentary digital copy of this novel, at my own request, from Joffe Books via NetGalley. This review is my own unbiased opinion.

Maddie Ives 3

This was another race against time in the box set I have.

A boy is found covered in blood... This tangled British crime thriller was packed with tension and suspense. I liked Maddie and Harry for their determination and, despite flaws, will always try to do the right thing. All the characters suit the plot. This story demonstrated how humans can easily fall onto the wrong path.

Well-written and fast-paced this was a brilliant read.

Engaging and enjoyable.

Another fantastic read!

I can actually see this one happening in many ways. So many ppl get caught up in the internet/real life games. And that's what made this book so good and scary. Gripping right from the beginning to the very end. And you can honestly see where Charlie Gallagher's experience as an officer has affected his writing, emotionally especially. Throwing in the sensitive mental sides of these ppl is important to these stories in my opinion, as is shows strength. Thank you again for a stellar read.
