Now that the entire town knows who Clara is unofficially related to, she's even more of a social pariah than before. To make matters worse, the spell keeping the town guarded and safe is failing.
Naturally, it's her fault.
But that's not all. One of the mysterious strangers Clara met before has revealed his heritage and made it very clear he doesn't want her around. And not in the get out of town way.
More in the permanently neutralized sort of way.
With her newly embraced magic acting up, her child collecting spirits like they're candy, and her allies questioning whether they can win this new fight they're up against, Clara has her hands full.
To make things worse, the dragons show up, curious about the town's hidden leader and the strange power he's been hiding.
The dragons were tentative allies before, but with major secrets about to be revealed, Clara might soon have one more enemy on her tail.
Even for the Vampire Queen, these shenanigans might be too much for her to handle.
S.E. Babin has a passion for writing books with a paranormal twist. Whether it's romance or mystery, she loves taking the norm and turning it into the extraordinary. Her love of reading turned into a curious exploration to see whether or not she could write her own novel.
Beginning with random, terrible poetry and a slightly popular reimagining of Beowulf's Grendel in her high school English class, Sheryl spent way too much time in the library, killing any chance of her becoming a cheerleader or anything even remotely cool. Another good addition to the series. There are still editing issues, as has become expected of this series, but the plot is good enough that even when incorrect names are used (which happens at least 4 times in this book), it’s relatively easy to overlook.
I do wish more care was taken with editing, I’d happily wait an extra couple weeks for it to be perfected before release. I feel like too many people likely DNF this author for this reason and miss out on the fantastic story telling.
I was excited when I saw that this was out. I love Clara and I was looking forward to reading more of her story. I feel bad for Clara because everybody in the town that she’s living in seems to think that every time something happens it’s her fault. The stuff that happens in town may not be her fault but she’s always seems to be in the thick of it. Clara learns to embrace the power within herself to help save the town. Unfortunately, the relationship between her and Dave is still very strained. I’m excited to read the next book in the series.
Clara is definitely on an adventure and is fighting hard to keep her family safe. I absolutely love this series and I can’t wait to see what happens next.
This story would have been more enjoyable to me if Seth and Dave weren’t ‘love interests.’ I’m super disappointed that Dave has turned into an asshole. Seth’s whole Jekyll and Hyde routine annoys the shit out of me. Had they just been ally-or-foe-or-what, I would have liked the story more. I’m not a fan of the ‘asshole man who explicitly states he hates and/or wants to kill her and she hates him too but oh! he’s soooooo hot! and she is soooo attracted to him! and they fall into situations where they have to fake intimacy where they find they have super combustible chemistry together’ trope. And the fact that I’ve seen it many times in these otherwise fun stories really irks me. I still like Clara and her misfit band of friends so I’ll read the next book, too. .
Quite good. I am enjoying this series a lot more, on the whole, than the series it came from.
Clara is sorting out motherhood and child custody and a difficult ex. The supporting characters are great. The plot moved right along. New characters added. Lots and LOTS of revelations and power development and ramifications. The author is keeping things moving -- especially since the whole book is set in a sealed-off area, so it is almost claustrophobic. No road-trips here.
This series obliterates everything that was great about Cocktail’s in Hell and continues the confusing and out of character behavior of the people I had come to love. This is not even remotely Dave or Clara behavior. It feels like the author completely twisted them and created a different world just to get another series. I almost never write reviews for books I don’t like because I think it’s often a matter of opinion but this is just devastating.
I am having issues with the inequity of the romantic feud. She expects to be able to do whatever she wants without regard to his feelings but let him do one thing that steps over her boundaries and she’ll NEVER be able to forgive!!! That just feels too much plot-driven. Yes, I know. It’s fantasy so don’t expect sense.
Dragons, death magic, & Dijin. Poor Clara is going through it! I love this series. So glad S. E. Decided to spin off with Clara. I can’t wait for the next book! I need more Clara, more Luc, more Dave, more Baba, more Artie, and of course more of Violet’s gang!
Alot was going on in the 2nd book. Clara was wonderful she was back to the original Clara. Strong capable and doesn’t care what others think of her. Loved it.
