Lady Scarlett Crest won’t marry the earl her father has selected for her.
While the young man is wealthy and well-connected, Scarlett’s heart belongs to another. The only man she has ever loved—the stable boy her new fiancé callously murdered deep in the Whispering Woods. If her father expects her to make it down the aisle and into her wedding bed beside her lover’s killer, he has another thing coming. They all do.
Before she can get her revenge, Scarlett’s wedding day is interrupted by a most unusual guest.
The Headless Horseman of Broken Cliff barely remembers himself. Driven only by the determination to find and kill the ones who cursed him, he has no time for a prisoner. Yet, Scarlett is different than the others he seeks to destroy. Her betrayal cut him the deepest, and now she will pay for it—with her life.
Captured by a creature that she once believed to be only an old wives’ tale, Scarlett quickly realizes not everything is what it seems. As memories of the past replay with shocking clarity, she learns just how much of her family’s legacy is paved with blood.
Once the true identity of the Headless Horseman is revealed, she is torn between hope and despair. Can she rebuild their trust and take down those responsible for cutting their future short? Or will those who sought to separate them forever prevail? Can two hearts that used to beat as one survive death and be rejoined before it’s too late?
This spicy monster romance novella gives two hopeless people the chance to find love again, even if one of them has a pumpkin for a head! For a complete list of tropes, content warnings, and other information, please check the author’s website.
I honestly thought this was a sweet romance, but what really stood out to me was how well it handled its darker themes. The theme of suicide and the emotional weight behind that feeling were described in a very touching and believable way. I think the author balanced the romance with the darker atmosphere beautifully. Overall, I really enjoyed it.
The revenge plot of the Headless Horseman nearly took me out!! I did not expect such twists with the story😭 And the way that Scarlett wanted to by with her beloved just about took me out 😭 Charlotte, you have done it again with this series 🖤🖤 If you haven’t read, y’all got to read Charlotte’s stories because they are a masterpiece 🤌🏽
I was crying by page 7, and bawling my eyes out by page 42. This book is hauntingly beautiful. I very rarely give out five star reviews for a book. But this book destroyed me and then put me back together in the best way. This is how you do a beautiful Halloween folklore romance. I genuinely cannot understand why no one is talking about this book.
I was lucky to receive an eARC of this book, and I honestly wished I could finish it even sooner, that’s how much I enjoyed it! It’s intense, gothic and surprisingly emotional, perfectly balancing spooky and steamy. Can’t wait for her next book!
Grief and loss was so well written I cried, I don't cry at much in books but when it's grief, loss, depression, suicide - and it's written well? Gets me bawling like a baby.
The romance between the 2 MC's was well written, as I expect from the author - her romance is done very well, but seeing the darker themes written just as well was very gratifying.
The second chance for their love? Ughh yes, seeing them happy and the people that deserved it being 💀 was so satisfying
a bit different than her previous books, I liked the writing style but the story itself wasn’t my niche hence the 3 stars. someone else is going to eat this up though!!
