Most first-day-of-school checklists don't include stumbling upon an assassination plot.
Trey’s life in the rural village of Lovarn was simple, if not a little lackluster. But then his enigmatic mentor throws them both into an adventure that promises more excitement than he can infiltrate the prestigious Windrake Academy.
The mission? He can’t tell anyone. And he needs to avoid the mind-reading headmaster.
The one risk he didn’t account for? The gorgeous mages surrounding him on campus. It’s not just their beauty that has him distracted; many of them have their own hidden agendas at play.

I didn't finish. Not because it was bad, I just got bored. At the 25% mark, I wasn't sure if this was going to be a slice of life academy story, murder mystery or some grandiose revenge plot . I didn't feel any connection to the characters. Up to the point I stopped it was just snarky irritating banter. The story plot was just a bunch of innuendo but no real conspiracy information or action. I don't know why any of the characters were motivated to do anything.
If the author didn't say it at the end of the book, I never would have known this was a debut novel. This book really has it all, mystery, worldbuilding, fast relationships, slow burn relationships, twists, action, steamy scenes, etc. An absolute banger of a debut novel and definitely above average quality for this genre. This is the author's first book, but you can't really tell because of the quality of the story. The story itself is fun, sort of light-hearted, but also there are moments of intense battle and suspense. The pacing itself is done very well to where I didn't want to stop reading and just kept going until I finished. The characters and their interactions together are well written. The conversations and mannerisms are very realistic and what you would want to see in real life if people are having a conversation with each other. There is not necessarily growth for the characters themselves, but they do grow in their relationships with each other. The setting itself is familiar and the author did a good job of adapting it to fit with the story that he wrote. The magic system is ingenious and well thought out with all of the different aspects and types of magic users. Overall, a great book and a really well done first book by this author and I'm looking forward to more. I recommend giving it a read through!
This was a really good book!! There was a lot of mystery about Marvin and Trey’s true plan which kept me sucked in as a read further. Hoping for a 2nd book for sure!

At the end of the book, the author states that this is the first book written, not something I was expecting as I found it to be high quality. I liked the story enough that i think this could stand on its own legs without needing very many if any nsfw situations at all.
