What a great sequel! The mystery was intriguing, the romance was sweet, and the capers of the Shippers were giggle-worthy.
I’m a cruise-aholic and love this series. The idea of living on a cruise ship and arranging love stories for complete strangers appeals to me! I’ve already chosen two friends who’d love to join me as members of the Shippers. 😂
I loved getting to meet more of Daisy’s family and gain insight into her character. St Amant kept me reading because I wasn’t certain she could pull off a romance between the two characters she chose. She did it…and did it well.
My niece works in childcare for a cruise line and from what she tells me, this is spot on. It’s good to know that plotlines on the pages are possible and mirror real life.
“Faith is for when we don’t understand God’s plan. Sometimes we have to walk in the dark awhile and hold tight to his hand.”
The faith thread was a little stronger in this sequel and was upheld by characters that I never would have suspected. I liked that!
I loved that Dunlap hid the villain well. I didn’t guess who the blackmailer was who had taken up residence on the MS Buckingham.
I’m looking forward to book three.

This is the second book in what I pray becomes a prolific series. Four Senior ladies are spending their golden years on a cruise ship. Both of these books were quite entertaining and engaging throughout. I love the cruise ship setting. There are so many laugh out loud moments. Not only are the Shippers trying to find a match for Abby, there’s a blackmailer on board. Highly recommend the entire series.
I was blessed with an ARC from the author and these are my own, unbiased opinions. Upon release I do plan to purchase the book and the audible version. This is a series I will revisit.

Absolutely loved this book! It is the second book in the series but works as a standalone. I also think this one is better than the first one! The shippers absolutely crack me up and I love them so much and their matchmaking ways. I loved that one of their sons, Spencer, was part of the story. He is divorced and has sole custody of his five year old daughter, Maddie. He has no clue what to do. Luckily, Abby, who is enlisting the matchmaking services of the shippers, works in childcare on the cruise ship. The shippers are trying to match Abby with a suitor, Abby is taking care of Maddie, and Spencer is trying to reconnect with his mother, Daisy. What Spencer and Abby don’t expect is a romance to blossom between the two of them. I loved how jealous Spencer got of Abby’s dates. And I loved how their relationship progressed. I also loved how Abby brought Maddie out of her shell and helped her to be a kid. And of course the shippers, 4 ladies in their seventies, were a delight. There is also a little mystery thrown in with a blackmailer on board the ship. Great Christian content throughout. I definitely recommend this story!

Hearts Aweigh by Shannon Sue Dunlap is such a cute multi-generational rom-com!! The Shippers, 4 elderly ladies who practically live on the cruise ship, are back. (Yes, this is book 2 in the Love Overboard series. I felt like reading bk 1 first was helpful, but not entirely necessary to understand this one.) With one highly successful match under their belts, these fearsome ladies are ready to tackle victim ( I mean, client) number 2.
I love the Shippers! We get to know each of the four a little more on this cruise on the MS Buckingham. Daisy, the Southern, genteel lady of the group, has secrets that nobody knew. And this cruise brings her some big surprises.
I love that the Shipper’s target in this novel, Abby, a Kids Kingdom worker aboard ship, has asked for their help. “it’s lonely by myself. I’d rather have a partner. Someone to share things with. That guaranteed one person who’s always on my side. My best friend.” Of course, the Shippers eventually settle on stuffed shirt, workaholic lawyer Spencer as a possible match for Abby. Abby’s response is noted at the beginning of the blog!!
A sunshine vs. Mr. Grumpy, a “child-whisperer” vs. a father who has no idea how to be a real dad. Someone who adores Daisy vs. someone who definitely does NOT!! How can this match ever work? And so begins a very trying back-and-forth, unpredictable romance. Will it be or won’t it? The one thing that IS predictable is the laughter!
Plus the adorable factor. That would be Spencer’s daughter, 5-yr-old Madeleine, afraid to speak, play, or move a muscle. How can Abby help this sad little girl out of her shell? But, Abby, being the Pied Piper that she is, has Madeleine playing and giggling and beginning to experience being a child. “Certain children claimed a room in a person’s heart and lived there.” As Maddie claims this spot in Abby’s heart, Spencer finds her invaluable. But he waffles on why he needs Abby near.
With that romance teetering, the Shippers also have a blackmailer to catch. I love how all that works out, and I foresee another Shipper’s story coming out in a future book.
If you like romcoms, this is a must-read!

Another fantastic adventure with the Shippers! I love these ladies so much and the antics and matchmaking they get involved in. I can't wait for their next adventure. shannon Sue Dunlap has a great voice for romance and humor. 6⭐

Have you ever been on a cruise? I've never even been tempted by one (unless it's a river cruise) until now. This book makes me want to take to the sea!
This is such a fun book! Laughter, meddling matchmakers, a little cozy mystery, all on a cruise ship. What's not to love?

The Shippers are at it again! I really liked that we already knew Abby to some extent from the previous novel, but meeting Spencer and Maddie was definitely interesting. To be honest, I didn't really like Spencer all that much for much of the novel. He was definitely his father's child. But even then, you could see that, in his heart, he wanted to be better, especially for his daughter. I think that, for the most part, the relationship between Spencer and Abby played out in an understandable (if perhaps a little fast!) way.
I like that in addition to the matchmaking shenanigans, the Shippers are also amateur sleuths. I really liked how they set up a way to catch the blackmailer in their tracks.
But most of all, I liked how, even though they weren't perfect at it (but who is?), the characters were doing their best to honour God with their lives.
Shannon Sue Dunlap is definitely one of my favourite finds this year!

Wow, I absolutely loved this book! I couldn’t put it down and ended up reading it all in one sitting! This was my first book by Shannon, and I clearly have been missing out... but I’m making it right by buying Love Overboard next!
When Abby, a childcare worker on Monarch Cruises, asks for the help of "The Shippers" to find her perfect match, she never imagined what would follow. She didn’t expect to go on multiple dates, and most surprising of all, she didn’t expect to develop feelings for her boss. Enter Spencer....Daisy, one of the matchmakers’ son, who boards the cruise and hires Abby as his daughter Maddie's nanny. Spencer is drawn to Abby, but he’s not sure why. After a recent divorce, the last thing he wants is to be distracted by his daughter’s new nanny. Yet, his heart has other plans. He can’t help but want Abby to stop going on those random dates, while he’s left only with the role of her employer. Could there be more between them?
This story was incredible! I loved the grumpy vs. sunshine dynamic, Abby’s dates, their sizzling chemistry, the height difference, sweet Maddie, the matchmakers, and the intriguing mystery that kept me hooked from start to finish! This story was enjoyable from start to finish!

The Shippers are committed to making that happen. We also meet Daisy’s son, Spencer, an elite, divorced lawyer, and his adorable five-year-old daughter, Maddie. With many possible suitors for Abby, Spencer finds himself caught up in the Shippers’ plans.
I enjoyed this story so much. It’s full of humor, a mysterious blackmail plot, and of course, romance. The book also explores faith, forgiveness, and finding God. Abby and Spencer share great chemistry, and I fell in love with Maddie. Watching her grow from a shy girl to a happy, lively child was a joy.

Hearts Aweigh starts out with the "Shippers" meeting with Abby to decide if they will try to match her up on the ship to help her find a husband. The Shippers are 4 octagenarian women who have decided to stay on Monarch Cruise lines for their retirement years and to find some love matches for younger people.
One of the Shippers has a son that has come on board for this cruise to try to talk his mom into moving back home. Spencer Randolph Masterson has a little girl named Madeleine, Maddie for short. Abby does child care on the cruise ship and is heading back home after a few more cruises to resume work as a teacher. She is good with children and has a connection with Maddie . .but what about Spencer?
Hearts Aweigh offers readers a mix of romance, humor, and a mystery to solve. This book flowed quite well. It kept my interest all the way through and I enjoyed the writing style. I like the "grumpy vs. sunshine" element of the story. There is a Christian theme lightly running through the story. I also loved the ending. Hearts Aweigh is another adorable, laugh out loud contribution to Shipper lore! The Shippers, a group of Golden Girls type ladies who live on a cruise ship, are at it again, this time trying to find a match for Abby. Abby is immediately lovable and relatable. The Shippers come up with a few candidates, and of course, there's Spencer. I do love a grumpy/sunshine trope, and Spencer qualifies as the grumpy at the beginning of the story. Maddie adds so much adorableness and joy to the story, and her relationship with Abby is just too cute. It's also just super fun to read a story set on a cruise ship. It's a little bit of a vacation from the comfort of your favorite reading spot. I enjoyed the first book in this series, but I think this one's even better!

Shannon Sue Dunlap has continued this wonderful story in a fabulous way. The Shippers (older ladies who live on the cruise ship and make matches amongst the passengers and staff as they see needed) love their lives and are definitely NOT looking to change anything. Spencer has a different plan for his mother, though. He definitely sees her leaving the ship and coming to live on land, which he thinks is the only appropriate thing for his mother. These two characters are super interesting to see the mother/son interactions of, especially when you combine his young daughter with them. The characters morph, change, and grow in the story and it is a lot of joy to see it happen with such well-written characters.
When you add in Abby, one of the ship's childcare workers, you get fireworks, stormy clouds, and sunshine all wrapped up in one. She is a joy to read as a character who is earnest, honest, trust-worthy, joyful, and more. She trusts the Shippers and actually asks them to meddle in her life, which, of course, Spencer thinks is the most ridiculous thing he has heard. As she continues to try to find her "happily ever after", she doesn't allow discouragement to direct her. She works her job with joy, pushing past the frustrating and discouraging moments, so that she keeps her eyes on her future. What a great role model she is in that way!
The story has lots of laughs, lots of intrigue (the good kind, not the suspenseful danger and gore), and wonderful characters that you just want to keep on reading about. I flew through this story because I enjoyed it so much. I wish I had another to read right away. These plot lines are such fun and allow such creativity in the stories. You will like this one a lot.

Another fun adventure aboard the MS Buckingham! The Shippers are back and they have their next victim—I mean, client—no, wait!
They have their next potential love match in mind. And it’s going to be a doozy!
Abby O’Brian wants to find her love match, get married, and start a family—in that order. She witnessed the Shippers at work with her former roommate and now she wants their help.
Spenser Randolph Masterson is a man on a mission, just not of the meet cute HEA kind. No, he plans on convincing his mother to abandon her cruise ship fantasy and to return with him to Louisiana. He needs help raising his 5 year old daughter.
The daughter he barely knows thanks to his cold hearted ex-wife and her interference. Now he’s Madeleine’s sole parent and is clueless how to reach her, let alone raise her. Enter Abby, and the magic begins.
The quartet of septuagenarians is hilarious as always and their schemes for Abby are comical and misguided. Throw in a serial blackmailer and chaos ensues!

Oh how I adore the Shippers – four endearing and quirky (and endearingly quirky) septuagenarian women who have chosen to spend their retirement sailing the seven seas aboard a Monarch cruise ship. And while they certainly make use of the ship’s amenities and various entertainments, their main mission is to find love matches for those God puts in their path (while also occasionally unmasking some villains). I absolutely loved my introduction to Emily, Althea, Daisy, and Gerry in Love Overboard and have been eagerly (translated: impatiently) waiting to read all about their next matchmaking (and crime-solving) adventures in Hearts Aweigh. And honestly, just hanging out with these ladies via the magic of fiction is loads of fun, even if they weren’t finagling romances for other people… but I’m really glad they ARE succeeding as matchmakers because whew! The romantic tension between Spencer and Abby left me blissfully a’swoon!

Bless their hearts, the Shippers have their work cut out for them with these two opposites. Abby is bubbly and warm and pint-sized, the quintessential elementary school teacher who just exudes joy wherever she goes. And she wants nothing more than to be a wife and a mom. Sebastian (who also happens to be Daisy’s son) is straight-laced, buttoned-up, and TALL, the quintessential workaholic who doesn’t know how to relax or have fun. And HE wants nothing more than to convince his mom to come home to New Orleans and help him take care of his five-year-old daughter. I adore a good grumpy/sunshine romance, and Hearts Aweigh sparks deliciously with the confounding-to-them chemistry, witty banter, and forget-to-breathe attraction that I love about this trope. And I dare you to ‘meet’ Sebastian’s little girl Madeline without wanting to cry and smile and hug her and give her candy and read her all the books and maybe even make her play clothes out of some old curtains. What a sweetheart!

Oof. That quote from Althea is one I simultaneously loved and hated because hello, my name is Carrie and I’m a micromanager. I like knowing how things are going to work out, even if it’s not like I want them to, because at least I can plan how to handle it. Ohhhhh but life isn’t usually like that, is it? The last several years certainly haven’t gone that way for me anyway, instead feeling like one ‘walk in the dark’ after another with uncertain outcomes and increased anxiety. Which makes me all the more grateful for authors who tuck grace and hope and truth between the pages of the stories they’re telling. No matter how subtle or overt, those quotes or scenes that touch my soul are opportunities for Jesus to remind me that He’s here and He sees and He cares.
Bottom Line: Hearts Aweigh by Shannon Sue Dunlap is the perfect combination of heartwarming and hilarious with wonderfully lovable characters and compelling plot turns. The ‘opposites attract, grumpy/sunshine’ romance stole my breath with the toe-curling chemistry between Abby and Sebastian, and I absolutely fell in love with them while I watched them fall in love with each other. It’s not all fun and games aboard this cruise ship, though, so buckle up for some choppy seas as secrets surface and personal growth beckons, but these deeper layers add dimension to the plot and the characters, making the story that much more entertaining. I delighted in setting sail with the Shippers again, and I can’t wait to see who they’ve set their matchmaking sights on next!

I loved reuniting with the Shippers and their matchmaking antics in this second book!
As with the first book, Hearts Aweigh made me grin and laugh, while also weaving faith and meaning into the story.
Main characters Abby and Spencer were both great characters. Abby is bubbly and caring, and in search of her happily ever after. Spencer is the antithesis of all that XD But he has a deeply caring heart, especially for his daughter even when he doesn't know exactly what to do. Abby and Spencer were honestly a really good fit for each other, and I loved seeing how their romance played out.
And little Maddie - Spencer's daughter - was a true doll. She was adorable, and I loved Abby's relationship with her.
Hearts Aweigh also deals with a blackmailing mystery, and it was exciting seeing how that resolved.
This book was full of wit and endearing moments, and swoony kisses! I thoroughly enjoyed it, and look forward to more stories with the Shippers!

This was such a fun, light, yet surprisingly deep read! The little touches of faith throughout was a lovely reminder of how we should be constantly seeking God's will and strength. Emily (main Shipper we are with throughout) was regularly seeking God's will when it came to matching Abby with the right guy. Spencer was seeking God's guidance with his daughter and later on, with Abby. Truly the faith was incorporated so well and balanced perfectly with the romance and little subplot of mystery.
Each level of the story was engaging and by the end I didn't want to put the book down. Everything felt like it was working against the characters and I HAD to know how they overcame their obstacles to reach their happily ever afters. All of the characters were super lovable with fun personalities and quirks.
This is a 20/10 recommendation from me. I enjoyed this book even more than I thought I would!

The Shippers are back in Hearts Aweigh and are up to more matchmaking shenanigans. While this book can be read independently, I recommend reading Love Overboard first. This is where we are first introduced to the Shippers.
I have never been on a cruise, nor do I have any desire. I think I would be like Spencer's governess, seasick the whole time. But this story makes it seem like it would be so much fun. The Shippers are a friend group made up of Daisy, Althea, Emily, and Gerry. They are a hoot, especially when they are planning for things.
Abby has requested the Shippers to find her a perfect match. Working on the same cruise ship, she knows their track record. She has full confidence in them and their plans.
Spencer just wants his mom, Daisy, to stop living on the cruise ship and come home. He holds no stock in his mom and her friends being love experts. When his governess takes sick, he needs a childcare provider immediately, and Abby is the perfect candidate. While he has no interest in her, or love, he is annoyed that she goes on dates and is letting the Shippers set her up.
This story was so much fun. I know I thought from the first book that the Shippers didn't have family since they all lived on the cruise ship. It was interesting learning that Daisy has a son and granddaughter, and learning the family dynamics. The mystery also accounted for some hilarious moments, but was also an interesting plot point.
I highly recommend this one; it is a perfect book for any time of year.

It was so fun to re-visit the Shippers in Hearts Aweigh, Shannon Sue Dunlap's second book in the Love Overboard series. These ladies are nosey schemers and laugh-out-loud hilarious! There's a mystery to solve and love matches to set up, and the Shippers are up for the tasks.
The female partner of the love match is apparent from the beginning of the book, but the Shippers keep striking out with the suitors. Then all of a sudden, there's an apparent love match, and I knew I was giving this RomCom 5 stars! I mean, how often does the lead in to a (possible) first kiss make you tear up?!
This book has something for everyone! I loved these characters and hope to see them again in the future. I think one of the Shippers deserves her own love match! Swoon.

This book was such a fun adventure! Four friends in their seventies living on a cruise ship and spending their time as matchmakers and amateur sleuths!? Yes please. The romance is so so good and it’s anything but cookie-cutter or predictable. The story delightfully gives you the main couple’s perspectives like a typical romance, but then you also get to experience the point of view of the Shippers… and that’s just hysterical.
I loved Maddie so much. This mama loves reading well-done kids in her novels and Maddie was super believable to me. Like Abby, I just wanted to hug her and Spencer the whole time. I’m so happy with the character growth in this story. I loved the faith elements and the process of happily-ever-after.
Shannon Sue Dunlap is a new-to-me author and I will certainly be looking to add more of her books to my TBR. I came in without reading the first book in the series, as much as I hate doing that. But never once did I feel lost and other than a couple name drops this book could easily stand alone. I’m definitely going back to read the other one though! And I sure hope there’s more. I can’t wait to set sail with the Shippers again.

The Shippers are back!! I love this group of elderly matchmakers so much, sometimes I wish I could have them in my own life. This time around they're trying to get the cruise ship children's program coordinator married off to some fine gentleman. Enter: Spencer Randolph Masterson. He's the son of one of the Shippers, Daisy, and boy does he have some things to deal with.
I loved getting a little more detail into the lives of the Shippers, especially Daisy. It only further endears this wonderful group of ladies who want everyone to experience the love they themselves knew in their marriages. Or didn't know, in the case of Daisy's marriage.

Hearts Aweigh is a such a charming story full of humor, heart, and actual unexpected romance. Shannon truly brings lovable characters to life especially Abby and Spencer and the mischievous senior “Shippers” add a hilarious twist to the matchmaking fun. With a blend of warmth, wit, and a little dash of mystery, this book is a feel good delight I lovee it. A perfect cozy read!

Hearts Aweigh is the second book I have read written by Shannon Sue Dunlap and she has become an instant read for me. I know I can expect a witty, faith-filled romance from her. I hope there is a third Shipper’s novel because I am not ready to say goodbye to this crew. This is the second book in the series, and it could be read as a stand-alone, but I would recommend reading the first one, you will not be disappointed.
The character development is great. I love the Shippers, and getting to know more of Daisy’s back story was great and gave her a better dynamic. Abby has such a bright personality that shines through. I loved getting to know her. Spencer was fun to pull back the layers on and see what made his broody attitude and the secrets behind the Masterson family.
The storyline and setting are so fun. I love the cruise ship setting. The storyline is fun. While we have the Shipper’s scheming and matchmaking, we also have some underlying crime going on, which this time was blackmail. Lo and behold, it is affecting the Shippers personally. With some other underlying things going on.
The relationship between Spencer and Abby is an opposites attract/ employer-‘nanny’ trope. It is a low-spice, kisses-only romance. I loved the shipper’s matchmaking skills and the different dates that Abby goes on to try and land the right man for her.

I still absolutely love “The Shippers”. They take their matchmaking very seriously and have fun doing it. The Shippers are known matchmakers on the cruise ship so when Abby would ready to find love she went to them.
Spencer went on the cruise with his daughter to try and convince his mom to come home to New Orleans. He hoped now having full custody of his daughter would help convince her. I really enjoyed watching Spencer slowly to surely loosing up. He went from being an uptight old money attorney to wear comfy clothes on the third cruise.
I really like Abby and Spencer together. Once he loosing up, they really meshed well together.
This is the second book with “The Shippers”. You do not have to read them in order of publication but they are fun and you will love them. I can’t wait for the next book. I also plan to read other books by @shannonsuedunlap

I really like Abby and Spencer together. Once he loosing up, they really meshed well together.
This is the second book with “The Shippers”. You do not have to read them in order of publication but they are fun and you will love them. I can’t wait for the next book. I also plan to read other books by @shannonsuedunlap

I think it’s been a minute since I’ve read a solid Christian rom-com, amid all the science fiction and historicals of late, and I couldn’t put this book down!
First off, Abby. I love her. I love her sparkly gold heart, her big smile, the way she loves on kids, and the enthusiasm she has for life. My only disappointment is that we didn’t get a glimpse at her as a kindergarten teacher, but I know she’s an excellent one. As for me, I prefer to stick to 2nd grade and up…
But that’s a side note. Abby is ready to settle down with a husband and start a family, and she enlists the Shippers. The Shippers… what isn’t to like? There’s Gerry, ever busy working on her murder mystery and dodging the attentions of the ship magician. Emily’s the head of this gang, and you can always rely on her bone-deep feelings. Daisy is the elegant one of the bunch, and we learn a good deal about her in Hearts Aweigh. And, of course, Althea, my personal favorite. She’s just too much heart all in one person! She cracked me up so many times.
I suppose I should talk about my man Spencer. He’s rather clueless at times, but understandably so. He’s desperate to do right by his sweet daughter, even if his priorities get a bit tangled. And watching him grow to love Abby and her unconventional ways… Chef’s kiss.
Add some blackmailing intrigue, a proposal mishap, and many disappointing dates, and Hearts Aweigh is the perfect read for a summer afternoon, carried away on a cruise ship to delightful antics and misadventures! I already have Love Overboard on order, because I need more of this cuteness!

Shannon Sue Dunlap has quickly become a favorite new author. I love these quirky "Shippers" who are like the Golden Girls of match-making aboard a cruise ship.
When Spencer Masterson arrives on board, the environment completely changes. Spencer is Daisy's son, and the "Shippers" hone in on him, determined to make a match between him and Abby, who is the activity director aboard the ship. Spencer brings with him his adorable daughter, Maddie, who adds loads of fun to the already humorous cast of characters.
I really hope this series continues because they are so doggone fun! Talk about armchair traveling, this series is perfect for it. If you are looking for some traveling but can't afford it, this series provides the ability to travel without leaving you're home.
Bottom Line: This book has hilarity, charm, heart, and unexpected romance. Summer is right around the corner, and this is the perfect beach read. You don't need to read the first book to read and enjoy this one. Today is release day, so please click one of the links above and get a copy of this amazing book!
