Sometimes I get really mad at Stephen Hawking and nerd out all over the place about hairy black holes, and believe it or not, that’s not a terrible pun or even worse innuendo.
That’s it. I’m a huge dork. My humor’s so dry it could empty oceans. I’m a native Southerner from the New Orleans area with zero Southern accent; I’m a mess of multi-ethnic, multi-cultural, multi-lingual influences; I have two cats. I wake up at daft hours of the morning to go running. I crochet terrible, lumpy things that never really turn into anything. I’m older than you think I look. I’m much more shy than my fury makes me sound (signifying gods only know what, but probably nothing). Recently I decided, at 36, that I needed to restart my life and move cross-country, so I tossed 75% of my possessions in the trash and randomly trucked it to Seattle. I’m in love with books and music and technology, and they war with each other for dominance and sometimes come together in a beautiful confluence. Most of the physical books I own are strange, obscure, out of print, overseas imports, or any combination of the four. Most of the physical books I used to own were destroyed in Hurricane Katrina, and have been replaced with the infinite library on my Nook. My wallet has a dangerous attraction to anything with pages; it flirts and teases and gives its all, until there’s nothing left but emptiness and ruin.
There will always be things you don’t know, and I won’t tell.
But ask me late at night over live music in a seedy bar, and you might just get an honest answer.

The more the story goes, the more things are getting clear, though the traps that Cole it's making in the way for us to change our minds. I keep mine.
More bodies keep appearing...
Malcolm and Seong are putting the pieces together.
Meanwhile in Baltimore the relation between Gabi and Anjulie is tense...

I hate hate HATE Sila. I’m going to be really angry if he’s not dead by the end of the season. I suffered him enough, if he runs away again I’m killing him myself -don’t know how, but I will. HOW can a little boy be that evil and twisted?
Also, Malcolm, please, stop being so damn perfect. I’m dying.
“I am completely absorbed in you. I am not obsessed with you. I know you, Seong-Jae. I know you can’t feel safe unless you have room to run.” He half-smiled. “So I always make sure you have room to run… and I’m happy when you choose to stay.”
“Who you are on those bad days is who you are, period, Joshi. And who you hurt on those bad days is still hurt when you’re ready to brush it off and put it behind you.”
Joshi, you may be older but it’s clear Mal is the wisest.✨
Also, Malcolm, please, stop being so damn perfect. I’m dying.

Malcolm's fingers tightened against Seong-Jae's; a death grip. And the old wolf turned his head, resting his brow to Seong-Jae's shoulders, his wild loosed hair falling down—a shield, a curtain—to fully mask his face. "Thank you for that," emerged past silvered tendrils.
"Why are you thanking me?"
"For," Malcolm exhaled slowly. "For reminding me one of the reasons why I hold on."
currently feeling the pain and heartbreak for Mal and SJ this episode but im so, so happy they have each other to hold on to—despite everything else. 🤍

What an amazing episode.
And most of it is Mal and Seong-Jae's POV!
So what did I take away from it?
1. The A in Aanga Joshi also stands for A*****E in big bold capital letters.
2. Malcolm and Seong-Jae’s love shines like a bright light, holding each man up. The way they support and understand each other is mind-blowing and uplifting.
3. Despite their reservations, both men have to admit that, sometimes, when you get the right counsellor, therapy does help. And thank God for that!
4. Kissing has never been steamier and more meaningful. That kiss at 11% is incredible and lasts for a few good pages.
5. Mal and Seong-Jae’s little playful, teasing conversations are totally adorable. (sorry, guys!)
6. The psychoanalytical look at how the two men process the burden this job puts on them and how they second guess themselves while trying to do the right thing.
6. There are huge leaps forward in the case. The evil in it all is stunning and horrifying.
7. Best lines:
Seong-Jae groaned, his head hanging forward.”… I hate how easily you can do that.”
“Do what?” (Mal)
“See how insecure I am.”
“And yet, rather than less … with every twining, every kiss, every touch, every time they whispered each other’s names in the quiet dark aftermath… Always, with Seong-Jae…Malcolm only became more.”
(SJ) “Malcolm was with him. And he was with Malcolm. It was a small thing, a thing that should not matter so much when he had always, his entire life, been so indifferent to sex…But with Malcolm, it mattered.”
And as for the fun parts:
“This,” Seong-Jae said, “has to be one of the most wildly, absolutely inadvisable things you ever suggested, and you have suggested many inadvisable things.” … “I say we do it.”
Another brilliant episode, with some eye-opening revelations.

So I'm going to give this book five stars because most of it is from Malcom and Seon-Jae's POV?
Everything is starting to fall into place... and it's brilliant! This time, Malcolm and Seon-Jae investigate on their own, and god, I missed that. The two of them understand each other so well and make a great team. And yes, I mean, JUST THE TWO of them because Joshi, THIS was what I wanted to tell you most of the book:
You pushed them too far and you messed with my baby (Seon-Jae), and that was NOPE NOPE NOPE. Never make my baby hesitate, ok?😤
Malcom and Seon-Jae's relationship is everything. 🥰
"Malcom shook his head, never taking his eyes from Seon-Jae. "Is it strange to say i´m proud of you?"
Step one: compliment boyfriend.
Step two: watch boyfriend´s eyes widen in surprise.
Step three: wait for the inevitable scowl.
Finally, step four: grin when said boyfriend glares, hissing "Shut up."
On to the next one! 💕

First book of 2021. 😍 It doesn't get better than that!
This one was painful *and enraging* in a lot of ways but there was so much goodness. ❤
Mal & Seong-Jae draw ever closer to each other, and they're closing in on TGRK. Other than an ugly scene with Joshi, the whole episode is them going rogue *LOL* and investigating to determine which of the last two suspects is the killer. And the discovery they make seals what they already concluded, but pulls up some agonizing memories for Malcolm. 😢 With all they have been through in this case, I honestly thought this might have finally broken him, if not for Seong-Jae there to ground him and lend him strength.
Despite the emotional turmoil here, this was a fairly quiet episode, with both Sila and TGRK not making an appearance. Which is making me cringe in advance for the next one. Pretty sure we'll be paying for that absence here.
There is never enough of these two.

✨ 5 Superb Stars ✨
From Aanga’s asshole antics 😡 to our loved up double act going rogue 🙌🏻👏🏻🙌🏻, this was so so good. Thanks to their sleuthing, hopefully the crow and the wolf will now be one step ahead and catch at least one of these sickos that has so far eluded them. The only negative, apart from sleep deprivation, is that I can’t read the next one right now. My binge reading has well and truly come to an end and I’ll have to wait for the next one like everyone else ... pure torture 😩😭
As I cannot post my highlights, YET AGAIN 🤬 and I had MANY, I’m including a few of my favourite Malcolm/Seong-Jae moments:
Step one: compliment boyfriend. Step two: watch boyfriend’s eyes widen in surprise.
Step three: wait for the inevitable scowl. Finally, step four: grin when said boyfriend glares, hissing, “Shut up.”
“This,” Seong-Jae said, “has to be one of the most wildly, absolutely inadvisable things you have ever suggested, and you have suggested many inadvisable things.” He curled his hands against the cold metal edge of the sink, and pushed himself up to peer through the murky, dirty glass at the building next door. “I say we do it.”
“Helping me undress?” Malcolm murmured. “I would be entirely lax if I did not make an effort to care for my exhausted boyfriend.”
“If I open my eyes and you are staring at me again, you are sleeping in the car tomorrow night.” “I wouldn’t call it ‘staring’ so much as ‘gazing lovingly.’” “…sleeping on the car, and I am taking the keys.” Seong-Jae opened one eye, that lax quiet lingering around his features despite the foul look he gave Malcolm. “You are absolutely disgusting when you are in love. Did you know that? Disgusting.”
Malcolm scowled at him. “I follow protocol. Mostly.” “Malcolm.” Seong-Jae just looked at him flatly. “I had to write your performance report over the new year. You most certainly do not.” Then his brows drew together. “Did you even read it?” “…uh.” Seong-Jae jutted his chin out. “The second we are back in Baltimore.” “Yes, Sir.”
And God, did he want it, leaning into Seong-Jae with a needy growl rising in the back of his throat, fingers gripping tighter against Seong-Jae’s shoulder as Malcolm caught that wicked black crow’s hint of a smile, caught that Seong-Jae was deliberately making him wait, making him suffer, narrowing the focus of his world down to nothing more than wanting that final rush of contact and pressure and touch. “Tease,” he whispered, and that hint of a smile strengthened. “But you are not thinking about Joshi right now,” Seong-Jae whispered back—then closed that last distance between their lips.
“He had once said each new love made the last seem pale; each new love would be the one that was real, was true, was lasting, forever…until the next, and the next. But as he kissed his own name from Seong-Jae’s lips, as he stroked his hands over Seong-Jae’s hips and pulled him up to angle just right and turn that lock of conjoined bodies into a perfect shock of electric passion… He knew in his deepest heart there would be no next time. There wouldn’t be enough of him left to love again, when losing Seong-Jae would shatter him beyond repair.”
That sick horrible feeling that your life had been touched by something unfathomably evil, something that could have destroyed you in a heartbeat… …and you didn’t even realize how narrowly you had escaped until later. Seong-Jae might have thought he had known the depths of Sila’s depravity. But Malcolm knew, now… Neither of them had had any idea.”

“Taking the window out,” Malcolm said blandly, then flashed Seong-Jae a mild look. “Someone put it in. Means it has to come out, right?”
“I…what has gotten into you today?”
“I’m pissed.” Malcolm grinned, every inch the wolf, the flash of light against his teeth making them look sharper than they really were—and the bolt of attraction that shot through Seong-Jae nearly took his breath away, a thing so fierce it bordered on violence. “And maybe my slightly larcenous boyfriend is rubbing off on me.”
“I—you—just shut up and do the thing before they catch us.”

“Ow,” floated up faintly. “Did I die? I feel like I died.”
“You ass,” Seong-Jae hissed. “You frightened the fucking hell out of me.”

"Mother fuck! Where are they?”
SJ saying ILY again

“I—you—just shut up and do the thing before they catch us.”

everything is slowly coming together though. i’m super excited to see how it all goes down in the next episodes.
we had so many great malcolm & seong-jae moments in this episode.
my favourite was malcolm taking out a damn window that he couldn’t fit through, so they could get out of their hotel room and escape from their fbi babysitters. absolutely priceless. love it.
i missed them working on cases together, just them. no fbi (aka joshi the dickhead who i still have lots of conflicting feelings about) i miss malcolm’s apartment in baltimore, his car… i just sort of miss simplier times when they solved a new case in every single episode. this case… is fucking brutal to say the least….
……. but i’m loving every second of it.

What?!! WHAT?!!! 😩❤
I'm so happy to read about one of my favorite couples in the MM world, I missed them like crazy and god! This one was so packed I couldn't, I still cannot process all of what was discovered in here! Like I knew some of it because as a reader you get more POVS but God the explanations, the way evil is so ingrained in every step of this killer. I'm stunned in a good way at the capability of Cole McCade to create this world. Smart guy.

As always fuck you Aanga, because I can't give any review for this season without saying that, but still he got a little vindicated in this one, just a tiny bit and I still have my doubts so is not final. Also Seong Jae and Malcolm precious as ever, their love is really important for them to survive this, because the case is getting more fucked up with each episode/book.
Finally, with Trajectory we get exactly that, a clear path to who the bad guy is, all the connections are made and the leads are all found in a brilliant way that got me clutching my pearls and at the edge of my seat, I'm really curious as to what the next one will be about, if somebody knows when will that come out please put me out of my misery by telling me. Also we got our detectives working in a way they always thrive, breaking rules and saying fuck you to the system.

For the way the twisties, and the turnies, and the sheer relentless investigative work? This gets high marks. I'm a horrible person for saying this (maybe) but I outright skimmed the sex scene, some of the emotional two stepping, everything but the procedural bits. Because this was so well done. I'm still a bit eye twitchy over the success of this decades-long villainous chess match but.. I'm letting myself be lead. Time will tell after how it all ties up and how that lands for me. But. Right now? Excellence.
That ending was a particularly excellent "GOTCHA!".
Also, I'm outright calling bullshit on Aanga and his moustache-twirling claim of forcing those results. B u l l s h i t. But whatever helps him sleep at night. Not that he deserves it, really. Anyway, onwards!

...Have I mentioned how much I freaking love this series!? One of my absolute favorites. One day they will adorn my bookshelf. One day. That's how much I love 'em!
There were some super cute, funny, awful moments here. Always a cocktail of emotions especially with this season. And I can't get enough.
The human mind can only take so much bad before snapping and I'm glad moments are allowed here for Malcolm and Seong-Jae to rise above and focus, and live. Love.
I do not buy Joshi's explanation either. Also.. just no. Buut crossing my fingers that he won't be quite so bad from here out (but not holding my breath).

Ooh, are things heating up and taking off! We finally know for sure who TGRK is by the end of this one, so buckle up.
I absolutely adored this installment. We had basically, except for like one snippet in Joshi's POV in the very beginning, only Malcolm and Seong-Jae's POV's until 80% in this installment. It was glorious. I love other characters in this series, of course, like Anjuli and Gabrielle - and they were a welcome POV near the end, as always - and Sade too, but these two are the main reason we're all here, lbr. So getting all the Malcolm/Seong-Jae goodness was like a breath of fresh air.
And these two even got a breath away from everyone and everything for a breath of their own...and some alone time, if you know what I mean ;).
But it's like...as much as I love some other characters in this, like the ones mentioned above, and even like and enjoy others like Sten and the new girl - sorry I'm blanking on her name rn, it's been awhile since #7 in this series and she wasn't in this installment - I just felt that for a lot of the books this season so far was just...a little too packed with POVs.
Don't get me wrong, I've still absolutely adored all these books, and Mal and Seong-Jae always make these wonderful books. But at times the other POVs could drag a tad, or it was POVs I didn't like - like Joshi - or didn't exactly care for, like TGRK or Sila (as important as they are to the plot and to even see the fucked upness in their heads...still, didn't care that much for their POVs) or the new character, near the beginning at least and it just wasn't as wonderful enjoyable as amazing as installments like this are, or like they were in season 1, when it was mainly Mal and Seong-Jae.
Like, I fell for these two in the beginning, they're the heart and anchor of this series, so when they get a little less page time or not as much focus on them and their relationship, it's a little disappointing.
But when we get installments like this, or #6 which is just almost all Mal/Seong-Jae and their wonderfulness, I'm a super happy camper and and am glued to the pages. And also the little extra treat of these two getting to be together *ahem* intimately after what feels like forever of not getting to (when in the timeline of these books it's probably only been a few days lol).
So yeah, this was amazing and I loved it. The plot was on point too, we got to learn so much more and find out who TGRK is, more about Sila and just exactly how closely connected he is to TGRK and how it's all working out.
It was just a perfect blend of our fave couple, interesting plot development, and some pieces moving forward back in Baltimore with the others.
Joshi...continues to be the worst. I'm at least a little validated in my feelings at the end in the Q&A where Cole says that he's not trying to make Joshi someone we're supposed to like. Because...well, good, because he's a shit. I don't care that near the end he wasn't a total and complete douchecanoe, I just don't like him.
I might be a tad biased toward Mal and Seong-Jae because I love them so much, but they both recognize when they're in the wrong and Malcolm even apologizes to Joshi for his part in things - things get pretty heated in the beginning between them because Joshi is a prick! But also Mal and Seong-Jae weren't entirely in the right either...but wtf ever *humph* - but Joshi doesn't exactly do that - although he does admit he didn't handle things the best either. But still, he could do more.
And also, yeah, no matter what he was trying get them to do, the way he goes about it is wrong and even if he didn't mean what he said to them, Seong-Jae especially, that doesn't make it right all the sudden. He said pretty horrible shit in the beginning of this, and admitting that he said shitty things and doing better...remains to be the seen. I'll wait and see...but I'm thinking he's going to continue to be an arrogant, annoying prick, even when he has his more human moments, his more sympathetic moments.
I do commend the writing, though. Joshi isn't just some one-note "villain" so to speak, whose trying to throw a wrench in our favorite couple. He's three dimensional, and he has his somewhat good moments - however few and far between they may be *ahem* - and there's more to his shitty behavior than being a jealous ex - even if that is part of it. But still, don't like him. And you can't make me like him lol.
Anyway, enough of Joshi *grumble grumble*. Malcolm and Seong-Jae continue to be sweet, adorable and perfect together. Their little moments of teasing, of being able to laugh together, of being able to find comfort and absolute love in each other, was precious. They are able to keep each other sane, and it's wonderful.
They lean on each other to get through it and I think that's wonderful. They're not using each other as a crutch or anything bad like that. They're getting support from each other when they need it most. Nothing wrong with getting help and support when you need it, especially when the love of your life is right there to help support you, and give you comfort.
They're just...perfect. Make my heart sing and all that goopy shit ;). We all wish we could have a love like these two, amiright or amiright?
This was just a practically perfect installment. I got nothing but praise for it. Highly recommend! Two MASSIVE thumbs up from me! 💗 Can't wait for the next installment!

This edition was something else! I was cruising along thinking my heart might not be in my throat where Malcolm and Seong-Jae are concerned but holy shit!! What unfolds within the case is pretty crazy and had me saying what the fuck a number of times.
I think Cole throws a lot at the reader. All necessary of course but my little mind was struggling to keep up. LOL
Joshi can be a real prick sometimes and he is antagonizing Mal and Seong-Jae to the point where they are both ready to throttle him. And boy do they come close. Instead they set off to prove to Joshi what they are thinking is right. They are closing the gap and time is running out for this sicko.
But that scares the shit out of me. I'm worried about what is to come!!
p.s. I just LOVE the place where Mal & Seong-Jae are in their relationship. LOVE LOVE LOVE it!! ❤

I (unintentionally) took a month-long break from this series but here I am again 👀
We are sooooo!! close to big drama going down and I cannot wait to see what happens. This was more of a "let's figure shit out" episode, rather than murder-focused, which was good. I love seeing Malcolm and Seong-Jae puzzle through the complexities of this case and figuring out wtf is going on. It feels like McCade is constantly slapping the reader upside the head with plot twists 😅 That ending was wild! I cannot wait to get going with this series again and catch up to IRL releases 🥰

I have come to realize, as I make my way through this expansive series, that Seong-Jae and Mal are what give CI its heart and soul. At this point I honestly feel as though Seong-Jae and Mal are real BPD detectives, that's how fleshed out they are.

The case is heating up, the bond between Mal and Seong-Jae is stronger than ever, and I'm still not sure how I feel about FBI Division Chief, and Seong-Jae's ex-boyfriend, Aanga Joshi.

He had always thought of time as a thing that moves relative to gravity, to black holes, to the turn of stars and galaxies and superclusters whirling throughout the universe - but he knows now that time moves relative to pain, and a single instant of pain can last a lifetime if that pain cuts deep enough.
They did not found Greg's body yet. They didn't even look for him. Does that mean that he is still alive and still suffering? 😶
Anyways, I had a hard time going through this book. First, because of chapter 0 and the pain that Greg had to go through (he was still alive! Still alive! 😨), second, because of the Khalaji x Yoon x Aanga drama (more about it below) and third, because of the Mik Christiansen/Seth Duvonne case.
I hated the way Seong-Jae and Malcolm planned to manipulate and corner Aanga so he wouldn't find a way to say 'no' to them. I think that it was the first time that I wanted to punch a character square in the face. It was a very unfair move from them. They knew that Aanga was in a vulnerable state. They knew that his subordinates will listen to their conversation. They wanted to use every advantage they had against him so they will benefit from this. And when Aanga outsmarted them, knowing full well what they intended to do, they reacted with anger. The way they mentioned his name so many times through this book and mostly always with disdain made me sick in my stomach. They behaved like children, not like grown up people working as detectives.
Maybe if I didn't know what they were planning to do, I would stand on their side. But I knew. And I couldn't let that go.
I'm glad that they ended up apologizing. (I don't know what I would do if that didn't happen.)
Now the Mik/Seth case. It confirmed what we already knew from the previous books, we just needed more evidence to back the theory up. It was something I already knew, but it was still hard to get through. My heart broke for the Christiansen family once again, especially on the end. But I'm glad that I've got through this. And that Mik got his closure.
Well, now we know who The Golden Ratio Killer is. We know who Sila is. And Malcolm, Seong-Jae and Aanga seem to be (finally) on the same page. So the hunt begins, isn't it? But who will actually be the hunter and who will be the prey? (and will the detectives finally find Greg - dead or alive? How much did Greg tell the rabbit?)

OMG, this was so good! Mal and Seong-Jae are finally closing in on the killer and what the reader has known all along is now in the open together with new overwhelming facts. But the toll it takes on both men is unimaginable and nearly crushing if not for their mutual love and support. Despite emotional tension and volatile situations Mal and Seong-Jae find themselves in, Mr McCade manages to sneak in self deprecating humor and banter that only established couples who are so in love with each other can produce. Vulnerable and shy Seong-Jae is too cute for words, but it's Malcolm's almost breaking point that is so heart wrenching. Those two are just incredible.
As always many random strings and people connect in surprising ways as we go back and forth between states, characters and situations. No stone is left unturned when it comes to weaving the mystery that is about to be revealed.
The quiet and passionate moment between Mal and Seong-Jae is intimate and soul soothing for both men. I can't find the words to describe the wonder. It was a joyful moment this time for them both.
