Imagine being ten years old and told that you are emigrating to South Africa. That is exactly what happened to me, and I found out that many UK families had made similar decisions in the early 1980s.
Over seven years, I made many new friends, had many exciting adventures with a plethora of characters, and visited many places in South Africa spanning from Johannesburg to the Cape. I tell tales so concreted in my memory that it is like they happened yesterday. Stories of exploration, mystery, and surprise. I share them all and hope you enjoy and occasionally laugh at this extremely detailed trip down my memory lane, in one of the world's most beautiful countries. Truthful to the people, places, and experiences of the time.
Born in Stratford-upon-avon in 1968, Carl-Eric lived in many English cities, towns and villages before emigrating to South Africa with his parents and grandparents. Seven years was spent in the southern hemisphere before returning to the UK in late 1986. Most of his experiences over that period are documented in his book Tales From The Golden City.
Carl-Eric now lives in Gloucestershire with his cat Bella where he is working on a number of other writing projects. Family life is very important to Carl-Eric, and he loves spending time with his three wonderful children, their partners and his three grandchildren.
