But if you're curious and want a peek at What If and the Dark Side of the Old West,WEREWOLF ON THE RANGE might be the werewolf novel you've been searching for.

This is not your father’s Western Tale.

There are no silver bullets or moon cycles to save you.

This is Horror. Saddle up if you dare.

It’s 1869, and a war-weary nation has shifted its focus from the brutal Civil War to Westward Expansion at full steam ahead. The killing has not stopped. Natives and the buffalo herds upon which they depend are in the way. The West is a rough place populated by corrupt characters determined to seek their fortunes at the expense of everything and everyone. Major Kinkaid, Sgt. Butler and their Buffalo Soldiers are tasked with removing the Native population to reservations by any means necessary. It’s been going according to plan until one cold night, in the middle of nowhere, when a horrific creature attacks, seeking vengeance. There’s something out there with a grudge and an appetite, and it’s coming for them.

When darkness falls, the line between man and monster blurs. With every passing night, the body count rises. Suspicion and prejudice brew among divisive factions. In a desperate crisis of conscience, Kinkaid must unravel the mystery of the beast stalking him and his men while navigating a landscape rife with betrayal, fear, and the supernatural.

This gripping mix of suspense and visceral terror explores the primal nature of humanity and dares to Who is the real monster among us?

If you enjoyed the book, please leave STARS and REVIEWS. It helps a lot. They inspire me to write more jaw-dropping and deeply satisfying stories.

Jeff Howard writes Dark Fiction steeped in atmosphere, violence, and the Supernatural. A Nebraska author who spent years working on reservations and forgotten towns, drawing on the real horrors of the Midwest—where monsters real and imagined crawl from the cracks.

His debut, WEREWOLF ON THE RANGE, reimagines the American frontier as a brutal war between man and beast. His new novel, RISE OF THE GARGOYYLES, drags horror into the present—where ancient creatures are awakened from their prairie tombs. The books are connected not by timeline, but by something darker: men haunted by a shared secret — Major Kinkaid and Father Cain —destined to meet in a story that binds their cursed worlds.

Howard’s work is raw, visual, and unflinching—written for readers who crave their horror unholy and unforgettable.

WEREWOLF ON THE RANGE is available on AUDIBLE. I have codes for free copies. Email me if interested. werewolfatthewindow@gmail.com

What I loved most was how seamlessly Howard blends historical grit with supernatural horror. The werewolf itself is terrifying, yes, but the real horror comes from the people, the prejudice, the betrayals, the moral compromises, the cold brutality of soldiers following orders. Major Kinkaid’s struggle with conscience and survival kept me hooked, and the constant atmosphere of suspicion made every encounter feel tense.

this is one that I enjoyed a recanting of a story that borders closely on a potential true story! I enjoyed the hopping between the timeline!
