The nursery rhyme warned us about him. We should have listened.
When six-year-old Sandy Sommers vanishes during an Easter egg hunt in the small mountain town of Berlin, New Hampshire, Mayor Otto Finch finds himself at the center of a nightmare he thought he'd left behind decades ago.
As a college freshman in 1998, Otto witnessed inexplicable horrors in the town of Robin, where Halloween night turned an entire community violent. Now, as Berlin's first Black mayor, he's built a peaceful life with his adopted daughter Lily—until Sandy's disappearance stirs memories of a past Otto has spent years trying to forget.
When two local teenagers are found in the woods covered in blood with no memory of what happened, and Lily reveals she's been talking to something calling itself her "Best Forest Friend," Otto realizes the evil he encountered in his youth has found a new home. Working with FBI Agent Clementine Miller, Otto races to find Sandy before it's too late, only to discover a horrifying the creature in the forest is the monstrous manifestation of a nursery rhyme that children have sung for generations.
To save the children of Berlin, Otto must confront the darkness of his past and face the terrifying entity known as Bunny Foo Foo—before it collects every child in town.

Ok… hmm… how to put this nicely…. I feel as though this book was written by a child. The grammar and punctuation was terrible. The storyline was good at first, but then just ended up being a rip off of IT by Stephen King, but replacing the clown with a bunny. The back story was ridiculous and as it’s the first in a series (second book isn’t out yet), I don’t know if I even care to read it. The only good thing about it, was that it was short. My guess is that it’s just one book divided into two. I looked at the reviews and honestly have no clue why there are so many 5 stars, unless the ones reviewing are also children or so illiterate, that it’s the closest thing to a thriller they can understand. Oops… I guess I couldn’t put it as nicely as I intended. 🫢
This was a short story, not an overly done horror book per se, it got to the point at the very eerie and creepy beginning. It won't be for everyone. I had never heard of the Bunny Foo Foo nursery rhyme before. I was intrigued. Here, the mysterious creature, a mangled cryptid, lurks in the forest of Berlin, a small town close to the Canadian border. It does remind me of Stephen King's It. Yes, I'm going there. Was that the intention? Who can say. While Mr King's story goes into greater depth, with horror to break someone's entire existence, Ms Dean delivered a twisted tale of what would happen if a tall bunny, about a child's rhyme, took on a more sinister tone and wants to be very bad.😨😱
No clowns, which already have a bad reputation, but a fluffy bunny ((they're supposed to be sweet right?)) who could be a menace when hungry or provoked.👹 Otto Finch, the mayor, who has past secrets of his own, wants to find missing child 6yr old Sandy Sommers. His daughter Lily, also 6, was Sandy's best friend. Do these little children talk like 6yr olds? No. They seemed older but there was that trusting innocence that was written here. Time was of the essence as the world building started to grow, and characters scrambled with trying to find Sandy. Not everything was given or shared. Expect a cliffhanger. Otto was an interesting character. Complex. There was more to him and maybe book 2 will show that. BFF was unnerving. A trickster. The big bad needed to be around more. I know. Why? B/c that is the driving force of a horror story. Maybe Book 2? I have an idea of who...🤫 The psychological aspect was present. Needed more of that. The writing style was easy to connect with. I don't think this was a bad book. I was interested. I want to know more. It is spooky season. You might want to give this book a chance. The book cover is cool and it tells you everything.😳😭 Shout out to Tiny.🐶 Happy reading.*•>§<•*💜💛💜💛
"The moral of the story is: What's hare today is goon tomorrow."~BFF nursery rhyme🧌
👿🩸🐰Thank you to Ms Dean and Booksprout. The opinions shared here are my own.🐰🩸👿
Very creepy Little Bunny Foo Foo folklore retelling. I love this because of all the retellings I’ve read and know of, this is the only retelling of Bunny Foo Foo that I know of.
This was very suspenseful and anxiety inducing! Set in a small mountain town, the people of Berlin have just celebrated Easter with an Easter egg hunt when a little girl goes missing, which has never happened in their little town, in fact nothing much of anything happens let alone anything sinister.
The story is multiple POVs but mainly follows Otto Finch, the towns mayor, and his young adopted daughter Lily as they try to find her missing best friend Sandy. But Lily has a weird secret friend that may know where she is and Otto is trying his best to keep calm in the public eye while stressing at home about his own daughter and reliving old trauma from his school years that is hitting a little to close to home with this missing girl.
Will they find Sandy? Who is Lilys friend and who is Bunny Foo Foo and how did he come to be?
Definitely an eerie story but I was intrigued and engaged the whole time. Will definitely need to read onto the next book!
Bunny Foo Foo is that haunted story that I always wanted to hear growing up. It's that creepy monster in the woods that wants nothing more than to grab me in my nightmares.
I was captivated by Bunny Foo Foo after the first chapter, which follows six year old Sandy as she's taken by a creepy rabbit-like monster in the woods during an Easter egg hunt. From there, the story follows several characters, including her six year old best friend as she searches for Sandy. I flew through this story because I was so captivated by the motivations of each character. E.V. Dean does such an amazing job of slowly revealing the plot and backstory for characters and I'm invested.
E.V. Dean's writing feels very organic, capturing a feeling of unease and anxiety that's not always found in horror. It felt nostalgic, reminiscent of classic Stephen King, but holding something entirely new.
This is the first book in a series, so it leaves you on a cliffhanger and it's a huge one! I absolutely can't wait until the next one.
I won this book in a Goodreads giveaway and really enjoyed it!
It’s a quick, fun, and easy read—more eerie and thrilling than scary, so I wouldn’t call it true horror. The detail and imagery really bring the story to life, making it easy to picture each scene. Especially when describing Bunny Foo Foo. For such a short novella, the characters are surprisingly well developed and relatable. I’m looking forward to reading Book 2 and the rest of the series as it is released. Definitely recommend as a light, entertaining read between heavier books.
When nursery rhyme turn bad. I got this book for the title cause I like the nursery rhyme & I wanted to see how you make a cute little bunny into something terrifying. Our little bunny has crossed the boarder to Berlin a small town close to the Canadian border where the nursery rhyme comes from.
It had a bit of a creepy, eerie factor but it wasn’t scary. I still enjoyed the story but now I need the next one. Why why why did you end it that way 😞
I need to know do they find Sandy is she D.O.A ? Can they unalive the Foo? Will more children be lost to him?
I wanted easter horror & E.V. Dean delivers! If you know the bunny foo foo rhyme I think you will find a lot of fun in this story. If you don't know it this will be one heck of a way to hear of it for the first time. It's a really creepy bunny horror story & I enjoyed every moment of it. I also want to live in Dr. Brighton's house or at least be her bff, I knew she had great taste. I almost put 4 stars since you really hit me with a cliff hanger (;
What fun! This is why I love horror. It can be heartbreaking, terrifying, uplifting or just joyfully creepy.
Bunny Foo Foo is a joyfully creepy and downright chilling story of a killer monster luring children into the woods.
I was not aware that the characters of Otto and Beatrix are from another novel by Dean and I am INTRIGUED. Dean also got me with a total cliffhanger. I will seek out the next two in the series, Beater Cottontail and Down the Rabbit Hole.
I’m surprised with how much I liked this! The folklore of ‘bunny foo foo’ retold and much more sinister. this is just a novella and the rest of the story doesn’t release til July! Such a tease haha but I definitely enjoy the writing style of this author and will def read some of their other horror novellas
Entertaining, creepy, fast paced. Enjoy the concept of the nursery rhyme being monstrous. The characters are well written. I like how the story is told from multiple points of view so you get a glimpse into the mind of more than just one character. I have read a couple of stories by EV Dean and I've been pleased each time
Awesome fast read Kind of predictable but that didnt stop me from reading it This was a great horror about a deformed deranged rabbit Talking to children to gain friendship before taking them
Goodreads giveaway, so no idea what I was starting, but I love this weird little horror story! It's the first of four in a series, so it leaves you wanting more. Bunny Foo Foo is a actually scary, wow!
I won this book in a GR giveaway This book was creepy, but fun to read! I will be reading the next one since it left on a cliff hanger, plus I want to know how they defeat Foo Foo!
Really enjoyed this, fun, engaging novella! I can’t wait for the next one. I’ve never read an Easter horror before but this was a great and fun one for this spring. Already pre-ordered book 2!
This was such a quick read. I really liked it! It kept me on the edge of my seat with my heart racing from page 1!! My only complaint about this book, it’s just not long enough!! I NEED more!!
If you're reading this, you're probably thinking of checking out Bunny Foo Foo or you just read it. Thank you! I appreciate every single read of this whacky Easter horror novella which was so much fun to write.
If you enjoyed Otto and Beatrix as characters, do let me know by dropping a note. There will be much more them to come in the next few years of releases. Typically I release every 1-2 months so if you enjoyed this keep an eye out. Thank you!
Bunny Foo Foo: Beater Cottontail Book #2 will be released this summer!
