A hilarious new illustrated series for kids aged 8+ featuring a group of extremely cashed up guinea pigs and a capybara, from the bestselling authors of Frog Squad!
The world's richest man, Magnus McAloon, has tragically died in a rocket experiment gone wrong.
The sole heirs to his estate are his four beloved pet guinea Hot Head, Lunk, G-Chip and Big Pig (who is actually a capybara, but don't tell him that).
Not everyone is happy – especially the members of the McAloon family, who are determined to get back the fortune that they feel belongs to them, and not the newly mega rich guinea pigs.
From the bestselling creators of children's books, Kate and Jol Temple.
Hello to you! We are Kate and Jol Temple and we write silly books for kids! Some of them love to rhyme and others do not at all but all of them have pictures, because pictures are cool and anyone who says they're not is a two headed yeti. We live in Sydney with our human sons and a dog that thinks it's a raccoon.
We love to visit schools. We talk about and read picture books to little kids preschool through to junior primary. We also love to talk to bigger kids about our chapter books and what it's like being a writer. For more info about our school visits contact us and we'll be in touch.
Tension-fuelled and entertaining, Kate and Jol Temple have thought of everything from chauffeurs, chefs and house maids to implanted chips so the guinea pigs can buy whatever they like.
Mega Rich Guinea Pigs is an addictive and exciting tale, good fun, lively and adventurous. It is sure to have readers enthralled with its witty and highly charged plot. Perfectly written for the target audience of 8+ years, the plot is uncomplicated but never boring.
I quite enjoyed all the humorous mentions of capybaras as Big Pig, the capybara, believes he is a guinea pig.
Mega Rich Guinea Pigs is an endearing and immersive story. I hope there will be more guinea pig adventures to come.
“What are you saying? We can just tap our butts to pay for stuff?”
I’d heard all about this book but it was a student, claiming it was hilarious, who convinced me to put it at the top of my TBR list. One page in and I knew I was in for a funny read.
The world’s richest man, Magnus McAloon, made his fortune by inventing cool tech stuff, but when his own rocket blows up in space and leaves him really really really dead, suddenly all his money is up for grabs. Of course, his greedy family is ready to get their hands on the trillions and squillions, but they are thrown a massive curveball when Magnus leaves all his money to his 4 beloved guinea pigs instead. As you can imagine, the family is very angry about this and will do anything to get that fortune out of the Guinea pigs hands…or paws. Will the 4 Guinea pigs be able to enjoy the money that has come their way or will the scheming plans of McAloon’s greedy family leave them in constant mortal danger?
Well, my student wasn’t wrong, this one was hilarious. It grabs you immediately and has you laughing from the very first page. Students will be chuckling the whole way through this one reading about Cross Country Judo, Edna Whatshername and butt tapping payments. Kids will also love how the narrator engages directly with the reader in a cheeky way. There was the right amount of silly but also enough storyline substance to keep you enthralled and wanting more. The best part is, there seemed to be a hint of a sequel to come.
With a book perfect for the jump from junior to middle grade fiction, Kate and Jol are on a winner here and I know it will be a big hit in my classroom!
Mega Rich Guinea Pigs is the latest in a brand new hilarious series by Kate and Jol Temple, and it doesn’t disappoint!
But how does one become a mega rich guinea pig you may ask? Well, it only takes the unfortunate death of a mega rich man, Magnus McAloon, whose greatest loves in life were his guinea pigs. So naturally on his passing, they become the sole heirs to his fortune! While that’s fantastic news for the guinea pigs (the money part, not the death part) the inheritance is hotly contested by the McAloon family wanting their chunk of the fortune.
The story follows Hot Head, Lunk, G-Chip, and Big Pig, guinea pigs* who now have access to the very best life has to offer. Thanks to top notch speech therapists, they’ve even learned how to talk! But despite their endless supply of money, it turns out that it’s the simple acts of kindness and generosity that can be the most valuable.
Mega Rich Guinea Pigs is not just a funny and wacky adventure but it’s heartfelt too. If you follow Kate and Jol on social media, you already know they have a solid moral compass, so it’s no surprise that this book radiates positivity amongst the fun!
Also, shout out to Jol on his first time illustrating one of Team Temple’s books! The little illustrations scattered throughout are hilarious highlights that help bring the characters to life and add to the story. Mega Rich Guinea Pigs also makes the perfect read aloud if you’re looking for a family bedtime story, add this to your list!
Gargantuan guinea good times. If you’re unsure the perils an ordinary everyday dehydrator poses to a guinea or have no idea what a piggy jiggy is, than you need to read this book. Riding shotgun with a crew of guineas is a wild ride you’ll never forget. Nor regret. Full of laughs and absurdities, Mega Rich Guinea Pigs is a highly entertaining read for kids.
This was a whole heap of fun! It’s a great read aloud that my 10 year old daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed. Kate and Jol Temple really know their audience!
