Even those I've reviewed a few manga from One Peace Books already, I can't call myself an expert. When I go into manga reading, I'm not looking for anything overly complicated. I prefer simplistic art styles to help me understand better with the monochrome coloring. Something with an easy-going plot is right up my alley, with some humor and intrigue throughout. Unless I seek it out, I don't especially care for romance.
All that to say, The B-Rank Adventurer hit that sweet spot. It's not your traditional Isekai manga, with a young protagonist shown transported to another world. Instead, we're thrust into Gray's universe when he's older and has apparently already grown up after his transport.
I adored this story. Gray is an endearing character with a violent streak and warm heart. The story felt well-paced, especially for someone that often finds manga stories go too fast. It also left little sprinkles of mystery throughout the story. What happened to Gary's old life? Who are the kids? It'll be interesting to find out what happens in later volumes and how these mysteries evolve.
Well, color me pleasantly surprised! This eschews isekai garbage for a story about a man taking on the care of six orphans and fully embracing his role as dad. Sure, he's also in the middle of an isekai experience, but that's nothing compared to the heartwarming adventures in fatherhood he's signed up for.
