I read this book on autopilot which is how it seemed to me to be written. When you're reading a good, fast-paced, well written book you can overlook a lot. But while reading a boring book, your mind has a lot of time to dwell on little nitpicky things. Like, how many times can a person smolder? The word "smolder" or "smoldering" was used ad nauseum throughout this book. I get it that Jillian and Harrison were hot for each other but I am sure the word "smolder" has some synonyms.

And then there was the fact that people were always screaming at each other in this book. Characters didn't talk, reply, or just say things to each other. No, they would "practically scream" or "rage" or "roar".

I was also turned off by the weird malapropisms. At one point Jillian was "withering" in passion. Also Harrison's mother was referred to as a "Southern Bell". I could go on but what is the point?

A sweet read!

I couldn't put it down the first or the second time I read it. I thoroughly enjoyed the characters and the heated attraction between Jillian and Harrison. A very sweet romance. The love scenes were erotically sweet and very endearing. I've never read a book twice, but I enjoyed it so much I kept thinking about it and just had to pull it out and read it all over. You will not be disappointed when you read this novel. The story and characters just leapt off the pages. It was like watching a romantic, cop-thriller.

I loved this book. The story line made this a very easy read. I could not put this book down. When I did put it down, my mind was wondering about the suspects and the mole. I was very surprised at the end. Without giving away the ending to someone that hasn't not read this book, I will say that the peculiar actions of one character will have you surprised as to the result. Excellent book. Also, just the right amount of passion for me.

What a wonderful story of love. Both the hero and heroine are wonderful, genuine characters and the book is nicely put together with an action/adventure/murder plot. I love Ms. Carmichael's work.

Attorney Jillian Newman's life was life was drastically changed in the blink of an eye. After witnessing a murder, she realizes that killer has now set his sights on her and the only person who she can turn to is the one person she's not sure she can trust.
Detective Harrison Blake has been called to the scene of a murder and he's in luck, because there's a witness to the crime. When he meets the witness, Jillian, he can't understand why he's so drawn to her or why he feels the need to protect her, he just knows that if anyone wants to get her they'll have to go through him first. While trying to deny their growing attraction to one another, they're also trying to stay alive while staying one step ahead of the person or persons who now wants them both dead.
This is book is a reread for me. When ever I need a feel good romance with a little mystery, this is my go to story. I just love the characters and the story line which has a few twists and turns while trying to figure out whodunnit. If you're looking for romance with a little suspense that ends in HEA, I think you'll like this one. I know I have many times over.

The story was ok. I figured out a few things before the ending, and that took away from the story for me.
