Good Lord! Does this writer understand how to do research on a different time or anything else? Here are just a few bombs this guy drops: No area codes in 1996 No watches that you can see in the dark The difference between a tree “stump” and a tree “trunk”. Forgetting that your character already looked down the barrel of a gun about 50 pages earlier Difference between “submerge” and “emerge” Standing up quickly makes the blood rush TO your head Difference between “less” and “fewer”
And to top it off, there’s this little gem: He shot promiscuous eyebrows at her with a lewd wink. What the actual Freak is THAT supposed to mean.
Add to all this mess, this cliff-hanger is only the first in a series. Although it may be interesting to see how the author mangles other time periods, I don’t think my blood pressure can take any more.
If you value your sanity—give this mess a big ole miss.
"Did anyone even edit this book?" this reviewer smirked. It's full of poor or erroneous word choices. Two of the characters don't seem to have any facial expression other than a smirk. Since one of them is the main character, it makes him rather unappealing. A smirk in no way conveys a positive connotation. The metaphors are laughable. Upon bringing a killer to justice, the main character experiences closure that "felt as perfect as a frozen drink on the beach." Huh? The characters are one-dimensional. The plot is full of holes. And I don't even know why I'm spending time writing a review except maybe to prevent someone else from wasting their time and money on this book. If you want to read an entertaining book about time travel, try Jack Finney's Time and Again.
I was enticed into reading this novel by the time travel theme. A bad decision on my part ….. really bad. This was an extremely badly written book and do not even get me started on the editing. I kept coming across obvious errors in sentence structure and cohesive dialogue. The characters were incomprehensible and unbelievable (I know, time travel – how believable is that?). There are numerous sequels to this novel that involve the same character(s) and I will do my utmost to avoid them. Something intriguing to me is the relatively high Goodreads rating this book has. True there are only 148 reviews on the Wealth of Time #1 and even less on the sequels so maybe the author has a lot of friends?
I was downloading books to my Kindle to be sure I’d have plenty to read in airports and on the plane. I really didn’t research the way I usually would and came out disappointed I fell for the hype in the blurb. I LOVE time travel. Good time travel novels stay with me long after I finish the book. I reread them, sometimes multiple times. This is not one of those books. Plus, it’s a series that cuts off while still leaving too many questions unresolved. I love really good book series. I read the next in the series because I love the characters, the author’s writing, the unusual premise. This book left me pissed off that I’d wasted the time chugging through a far-fetched story. Let’s say the first premise, of being handed a pill designed to take you back to a very specific time, was off-kilter. I bought into the red-blue pill of the Matrix, but there was no explanation to make this believable. Very little of the time travel procedure seemed logical or believable. Twenty years before, the protagonist went from the perfect family life into a disaster that leaves him without job and family. He gets a postal system job he hates and comes home to get totally plastered each night. For twenty years. Wakes up, drinks a glass of water and coffee and goes back into work. Day after day. No one at work ever notices or complains about the downhill slide. Once a year, at the anniversary week of the disaster, he must talk himself out of committing suicide. Not even his mother notices. He gets the chance to go back in time and find closure. He starts in right away with a romantic relationship which seems off-key and suspicious. Yet, this one is the perfect partner he should have had from the beginning (his original marriage seemed perfect until the incident). I guess, instead of becoming vested in the characters, I remained suspicious and uninspired. No way would I want to meet or become friends with any of them. None of them. That was the biggest surprise. And that now I must be ultra careful about time travel novels that throw around Stephen King’s name
Wow!!! I love this authors books. Always a great read and this one was no different. Imagine being given the chance to go back in time and relive a time of your past........but there's an unknown price when you come back. This book really made me think about whether other times/eras are still occurring in othee time spaces. Loved it and recomme d this book to everyone
This writer should never be mentioned in the same breath as Stephen King. Ten hours of my life that I'll never get back. And no, I won't take that time travel pill to attempt to get it back!
Excellent Time Travel story were a man travels back in time to find out and save his daughter. He travels from 2018 to 1996 and meets a woman who becomes his girlfriend and together they try to find out what happen to his daughter on the night she disappeared. Full of twist and turns with a very surprising ending. !st book in a series and I will continue to read this series.
As an author myself and an avid time travel reader I can honestly say Wealth of time is the best among thousands its engrossing brilliantly written I wish I could write time travel novels but it's not my I Genre maybe Andre might like to review my books Salts War Blood and Country or The Carer can't wait to read the next one Nigel J Williams
One dimensional characters with questionable motives. Inconsistent writing. Plot holes. If a character smirks once, they will smirk every time they are on the page. This is just bad writing
I actually looked up the author to see how old he was because the 1990’s were not the heavenly, nostalgic era he represented. He couldn’t have actually been old enough to remember the decade clearly. The details of the era were all wrong. The one that really bugged me was the idea that we only began using area codes after 2000 with the introduction of cell phones. I have worked professionally with phone systems most of my career and I can tell you confidently that area codes are not a recent invention. Yes, we did use them in the 1990’s, and for decades prior to that also.
I’m currently on book 2, bought the first 3 in the series as a set for a “good” price and paid too much. The only reason I’m continuing at this point is because if I throw in the towel now, I will never go back to it. Still thinking about giving up though.
I love time travel stories, but this is quite possibly the worst I’ve ever read in the genre. Do yourself a favor and just read “11-22-63” by Stephen King, or reread it. Don’t waste your time or money on the Wealth of Time.
The book had its interesting moments, but they are few and far between. Any comparisons to Stephen Kimg’s 11-22-63 are laughable. Pacing needs work and too much repetition is present. It’s hard to understand the motivations and incredible short sightedness of the main character. The whole focus on Columbine is oddly done, with the main character talking about the killers as if he were on a first name basis with them.
The descriptive blurb drew me in - yet the introductory volume of this series wasn’t quite what I expected.
The author lays the foundation for future developments while providing his protagonist both answers and further questions and problems to be wrestled down to the mat.
The writing strikes me as “brisk” although the storytelling pace is actually measured and flowing.
I describe this as a horror story - because the denouement horrified ME!
Not knowing what to expect, I started this book and had a really hard time putting it down. What a great 1st story to begin a series. Mr. Gonzalez does a spectacular job of creating characters that you feel like you know. I highly recommend this book and I'm sure I will be recommending the future books in the series. Bravo Mr. Gonzalez
This is not the normal type of book that I usually read, but it popped up in my news feed and thought I woukd give it a try. I absolutely love this story. I don't want to put my kindle down to do anything else. Currently working on book #2. Great story, I wonder about the amount of research that has to go into a project like this. I can't say anything bad, I am really enjoying this series!
I wouldn't recommend this book. The characters are unlikable. The protoganist has little redeeming qualities. The author presents the concept of being unable to change the past, then something almost randomly happens that is a significant change. When Martin returns to the present, there is no sense that this event"s disappearance from history (the Columbine shooting) had any effect on current world events.
The author introduces characters then kills them off for no apparent reason.
He failed to fact check some things. Fir example, amber alerts were not adopted in Colorado until 2002. There was no protocol for an Amber alert in 1996 as presented in the story in Chapter 7.
It is inconceivable that the police would fail to suspect Martin or his wife of criminal conduct when their child fails to be found.
Because if these discrepancies, it was difficult to suspend my disbelief in order to fully engage in the world created by the author.
Wow this is a Fantastic read. Martin lost his daughter izzy in 1996 and gets an offer to go back and save her life can he do it. This is a fantastic read. That will grab you and have you inthralled. I Love this type of read. The Author has done a fantastic job at bringing this story to fruition. The characters were brought out great as well as the surroundings. I definitely recommend this read. Shauna Joesten
It should have been called "Wealth of Smirks" - the word 'smirk' appears 38 times! Very disappointing, really needs an editor. Has a number of grammatical errors (ex: "less buildings"), the characters were poorly developed and exhibited really random behaviors. Obviously setting up a series, but plot items were introduced and then never developed. Only good thing I can really say about this book was that I got a few good naps in while struggling to read it.
What a story that intrigues you. So realistic. Martin has no Will to keep on living, since he lost his daughter many years ago. He meets a time traveler that might be able to help. Don’t miss out once it’s released.
Very entertaining story, I have been on a time travel kick so I was pleased when I found a whole new series to read. this did not disappoint. Couple of minor plot flaws but that should not keep you from reading it.
Shades of 11-22-63. Ever since his daughter's disappearance 22 years ago Martin Briar's live has been one of hangovers and suicidal thoughts. One day on a visit to an antique shop with his mother, he is given the opportunity to rectify the situation and find out what happened to his daughter. Time travel. Little does he know that along the way he will fall in love. He will attempt to change history with disastrous results and find out what happened to his daughter. The 1st in a series of 6 books.
I do not usually read this type of book but I read a previous book by this author and decided to try this one. It was a little bit slower read than I am used to. The concept was a good one and it has an interesting twist to it. It did end the story but left a way to continue the story in another book. No oblivious typos or bad grammer.
I honestly wasn't a big fan, I was interested in it with the concept of him saving his daughter. In reality most of the pages were about everything but that.
I wanted to like this book, I really did. Guy gets to go back in time to save his daughter? Great, sign me up.
But it was a 320 page book that felt like it could have been about 200 pages. There was lots of repetition, especially when it came to the main character considering his choices. Pages and pages of him thinking about the consequences, it was just too much. I started skipping whole pages only to find that he was still pondering.
Contrast with this the action scenes, which flew by way too fast. Even the main conflict resolution seemed to be wrapped up in just a page or two (and way too easily and cleanly, in my opinion).
So, something like 20 pages of thinking about something, then one page about actually doing it, that sort of thing.
One aspect of the writing style was kind of unusual, too. This book is written in the third person, and typically there are two types of "third-person" stories - those told from one character's point of view, and those told from many characters' points of view. For about 75% of this book, it was solely from the main character's POV. Then, all of a sudden there was a chapter from another character's, which felt bizarre after all this time. After that it's still mostly the main character, but occasionally the other character.
Also, it's definitely not a stand-alone book. Even without the cliff-hanger at the end, there are so many minor details and some characters that lead nowhere, side issues that are never resolved, etc, that's it's obviously a setup for the other books in the series.
First time reading his books and I must say that I enjoyed the hell out of this book. I don't want to give this to much away. But trust me you wanna read this book it's so good.
I absolutely loved "Wealth of Time" by Andre Gonzalez. I'm not much of a time traveling type of reader, but this book had me hooked. There was a lot going on, and it keeps you wanting to read more. The beginning of the book had me chuckling because I work for the Post Office, so I can relate to Martin, lol. Martin meets Chris at an antique shop, and Chris gives Martin the opportunity to go back in time to see what happened to Martin's daughter back in 1996. Martin has lived 22 years wondering what ever happened to his daughter, so he returns to 1996 and lives the 6 months prior to his daughter's disappearance to see if he can change the outcome or to at least see what happened on that night. I will definitely continue reading this series to see what happens next.
Ok about once or twice a year I run across a new author and series that grabs me and doesn’t let go. This book and author fit that profile. I am retired and read more then the average person. That being said I read this book in 2 days. I loved the hero “Martin” and connected with his character right away. Time travel is one of my favorite subjects and Mr Gonzalez just joined my group of time travel authors. His imagination blew me away and left me wondering what would happen next. I was pleasantly surprised with the twisting plot and cast of characters that left me wanting more. The ending totally took me by surprise. I can’t wait to read the next adventure. I highly recommend this book JJ
I really enjoyed this book, which was an interesting twist on time travel. Some things were a little questionable (like how he took cash money from 2018 and could spend it - how were all the notes old enough to be ok? And how he magically gets his whole life set up when he gets there - even if the landlord doesn't ask about his history, the insurance people for his house and car would!) But it's fiction, so I just let that go and enjoyed the story as it was, because there weren't HUGE holes. And I'd definitely recommend this book if you like time travel stories, mysteries, or are just looking for something a bit different. I'm looking forward to seeing where the author takes the characters next! NB I received a complimentary copy of this book, but I always give an HONEST review based wholly on my own opinions
