Kind of a mixed bag.

The romance is sublime but for a VQ book the sex is boring and way same same. Except for that pegging scene. 🙌🌟

Also, as a proud member of #TeamPain if you're going to bring out a single tail then for pity's sake can I get more than 4 measly kissing strikes????

Talk about a chain yank and a half.

Though I do like getting to know various vamps in the country and Butch and Dixon are keepers. I do hope they show up again because I like those two.

So kind of disappointing especially with the boxes it ticked: femdom, kink and alpha sub. But still a VQ and JWH book so even when it's meh it's still pretty good.

OMG!!!! if you ever wanted to read a book that made you jump out of your seat, scream and cry like a crazy (good crazy I think) then this is the book for you !!

I can not tell you what I love LOOOOOOOVEEED more in this book - either the yuuuuuuuuummmmm cowbody (sorry, had to wipe off the drool there for a sec) or the lovely vampire :) I got the best of both worlds with these two ladies :)

Desiree was one of the first authors that I read and usually cowboy-theme is not my cup of tee but she got me HOOKED and it's been a love-affair since :) and she didn't disappoint here as well. I could tell her writing, the details, the beautiful descriptions and the attention to details and not overdoing it :)

Joey ... what to say and getting out without a restraining order ???? hihihi, just kidding (or NOT)!!!! I'm a huge fan, in whatever direction she goes, I love the strong female roles she nailed down to perfection, love the fea bit, adore the vampire and just the way she writes and her characters and the story and the struggle and the tension and the sweet victory and the BEST sex scenes, and the loving, and the emotions ... ( I can go on and on)- she got it all and for me who is in love with these series and all others connected to it .... this is beyond perfection.

Quinn and Selene are the best from both writers and more, their story and their love above the accepted boundaries from both worlds but strong enough to acknowledge it and to fight for it, even kill if needed. It's the ultimate love story that has all of it to keep you reading it past your bed time and to make you feel like you want the next round after only a minute.

two writers together in a book is tricky and it sometimes doesn't work, they stiles don't mesh well but this book is sooooooo synced and perfect if you didn't know the authors and they way of writing you would have thought it was a single person writing me.

I know I'm just one avid reader but I would put my money in the books from these two, any time of the day !!! I say - BRING IT ON girls !!!!!!

this is a must read !!!!!!!

I've been missing the Vampire Queen series after reading The Scientific Method and this book was really a bonus when i came across it.

The book is, as expected, very exceptional reading. You've got the alpha human male , Quinn Pedraza, hunky cowboy and ranch owner who's been trying to handle a ranch and bar and almost failing to do so adequately....and a made female vampire on the run, Selene Torres, a combo very much like the original pairs in VQ. However, there is more to Selene than being an excellent bar manager and bartender.

The dynamics between them is almost like Lady Daniela and Dev. Of course, Selene is the more dominant one since she's a vampire and Quinn, although an alpha male, is the slave who loves her. There's a part where Butch Dorn and his slave Dix came into the story, two formidable characters that were introduced in the previous book The Scientific Method. These two are such a cool M/M pairing and their dialogues are funny - manly ways of showing love and concern.

If you are into JWH books and loves some good BDSM involving a hot mature cowboy and a sexy vampire ....this book is it.

Flabbergasted, astonished, and dumbstruck over Nightfall!! Joey W. Hill and Desiree Holt has NOT disappoint in the continuing erotic love stories of Ms. Hill's beloved Vampires. The ups and downs between a vampire and their servant hasn't been this hot, or even hotter then Ms. Hill's first Vampire Queen Novel, 'The Vampire Queen's Servant.' Ms. Hill has delivered another hot, sexy, sweaty, unbelievable love story!

This was pretty disappointing. I didn't appreciate the co-authoring. I just want to hear Hill's voice, it was really distracting reading about the Vampire Queen universe in another author's writing.

Read it!

I have read Joey W Hill previously (her Nature of Desire, Vampire Queen, and Knights of the Boardroom series), but this is my first time reading Desiree Holt.
I really enjoyed this book and the authors' really wrote seamlessly. I can't tell what is Joey's and what was Desiree's writing. I loved the characters. Their strength (not only physical, but emotionally and mentally too).

I liked it. Didnt love it, though.
The sexy parts were drool-worthy. Amazing.
The romance, especially from the H part, was beyond sweet.
Her attitude as a vampire, very well handled.
The narrator, FLAWLESS.
Then why didnt I love it? Too much drama and vampire-politics got in the way. And too much unrestricted violence. Who knows me will think this is weird of me, because I hate rushed resolutions, and Im not squimish, but this book just took too damn much out of the story, making it slow and boring at some points, when more interaction between the main charcters and a deepening of their relashionship would've been waaaay better.
Still, like I said, I liked it. I'd read more from the series and the author, although not right now.

Inside Scoop: Quinn’s BDSM journey is not for the faint of heart and includes extreme sexual situations and dubious consent, as well as male/male scenes.

Wow! Just wow. You always wonder how smoothly a collaborative effort is going to work even between two authors as talented as Joey W. Hill and Desiree Holt. These two ladies melded as one mind.
This story takes place in the world of Joey W. Hill’s Vampire Queen series but can be read stand alone. If you haven’t read this series (and why not?) this might be a good book to start with. In this world vampires are viscous, sexual, and dominant and sometimes cruel but they sometimes find a connection and are capable of deep emotion though they hesitate to call it love. In Nightfall we meet a young made vampire, Selene Torres, who is about to set ranch owner Quinn Pedraza’s world on its ear. Quinn is a “man’s man”. Ranch owner, former rodeo rider, and bar owner Quinn doesn’t have much time for a life outside of work and taking care of those he considers in his care. That too is about to change.
This is a hard book there are moments of cruelty that make you want to cry followed by acts of love that make you want to shout with joy. This is not a safe book you will be drawn in and made to feel and sometimes they will be out of your comfort zone but they will make you think and I think make the story that much better.

4.5 "Yes, Ma'ma I'll be Quinn's buckle bunny" Stars
I love Joey W. Hill's vampires, Selene and Quinn's story was heart wrenching. Oh the twisted minds of those damn vampires, I can't get enough! I enjoyed this book more than the last season of True Blood :) I'm really hoping to see these characters cross over to another story because I'm already missing them.

While this is the 11th book in Joey W. Hill's 16-book "Vampire Queen" series, it was only the second book in the series I had read. (I started with #16, so clearly I have no respect for order!) I have read numerous other titles by this author and this one was very much in keeping with her style but also unique to the characteristics of her Vampire Queen series.

Hill writes BDSM stories. In the Vampire Queen series, the Vampires are (usually) sexual Dominants, and their human servants are (usually) sexual submissives. In the case of this particular book, the Vampire/Dominant is female, and the human servant/submissive is a very "alpha male" sort of guy. I think Hill handles the dynamic well and respectfully: while Selene (the Vampire) certainly wants to dominate Quinn (the human servant), she doesn't want to humiliate or emasculate him, and Quinn is happy to explore their power exchange as long as it takes place in generally private surroundings.

Since this was only the second book in this series that I had read, I wasn't really well-versed in the politics of the vampire culture that is central to the series. I got an up-close-and-personal view of it in this book and, well, it's pretty brutal. Very brutal. Exceedingly brutal. Because I wasn't as familiar with this series, I wasn't really expecting the Punisher-level of graphic violence that is presented here, and it caught me off guard. (The only thing that "rationalizes" the violence in this series is that vampires and their human servants have amazing and lightning-fast healing abilities. They can withstand a great deal of physical damage, and while the damage DOES hurt, they will recover from it fully within a few hours or a day as long as they have blood and rest.)

One quibble I had with the story itself is that I thought Quinn acted very foolishly in the final chapters. Despite many others (vampires and humans alike) telling him to not act, he put his head down and bulled his way on through, which then created a situation he had to be rescued from. Since human servants can live for three or four centuries, it's reasonable to hope he'll wise up over time. But in this story, he acted like a lunkhead.

This story is co-authored by Desiree Holt and is presented as a crossover, but I can't tell which series of Holt's this one ties into. I wish I knew, because I'd maybe be interested in checking out some of the others. Her website didn't really say.

Also, this book does have elements of M/M, so if that's not your cuppa, steer clear.

I've read many of the vampire queen series from Joey W. Hill, but I don't think I'm familiar with Desiree Holt. This book takes place within the same universe as vampire queen of all, Lyssa, who is mentioned a couple of times during the political maneuvering which is an innate part of vampire society. These are not sparkly vampire, folks, these are mean and sexual vampires, so if you can't handle that, stay away from the series.

In this adjacent book, the romance aspect is cranked up minus the hate part of the normal hate to love movement that happens in stereotypical romances. If you like kinky books, you need to be aware that consent is a confused matter in this (and all of the vampire queen series) so let that guide you, too.

Personally, I felt the book was more focused on sex scenes than the story I found myself surprisingly interested in since I normally do not care for or about "cowboy" or "Texas" culture.

This is the first vampire book of this author I've read. Really love Joey's other books and this one is no different. Team her with Desiree Holt and we have a winner. I'm a big fan of vampire romances with a touch of BDSM.

Quinn Pedraza is a rancher and a bar owner. Trying to juggle both businesses is getting beginning to wear him out. If only he had a better bar manager than the idiot he has now.....Enter Selene Torres. Selene is a vampire, but a young one by vampire standards. She running from the brutal abuse of Region overload vampire in New York. Selene is also a Domme and she is determined too make the alpha male human her human servant/submissive.

I really enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more in the Vampire Queen series.

I really enjoyed listening to Nightfall, I regret that it took me so long to finish listening to it but things kept getting in the way of me listening and being able to pay attention and enjoy listening to the story. There's is a very different and entertaining vampire story and the BDSM play in the story is nicely done as well; I'm definitely going to look for the rest of Joey W. Hill's Vampire Queen series, though I've apparently started near likely the end of the series I really enjoyed this book and anticipate searching for the other books in this series. Joey W. Hill and Desiree Holt did a great job writing this story together and the narrator for the audiobook that I listened to did a great job as well.

ADJUSTING PAST AND PRESENT TO ACHIEVE THE FUTURE

It’s more than lust, this immediate sizzle between Quinn and Selene, it’s life-changing. However, indulging that sizzle brings danger with it, as well as a sometimes confusing and incomprehensible world. Both Quinn and Celine are learning to adjust, though that adjustment at times comes very slowly.
Nightfall is an intriguing mix of the vampire world and the human world, how they coexist and sometimes not. At its core this story is about trust. Definitely a not to be missed erotic book that grabs you immediately and doesn’t let go even to the end. Highly recommend.

Wow! Cowboys and Vampires, male submissive, and s little MM action. Yes, this story ticks all the boxes. Although this is book 11, I think everything flows and is understandable of the vampire world without reading others in the series. However, fans of the series will appreciate some updates on favorites.

While Nightfall is not my favorite book from Joey W Hill, it's still amazing. I expected and enjoyed the tension and sexual heat--- what I didn't expect was how connected I would become to Selene and Quinn to the point that their pain brought tears to me!

Well this was my FIRST attempt at a Vampire novel and I was in wonderful hands with Joey W. Hill and Desiree Holt. This story of Quinn - who knows something is very much missing in his sex life but not sure what, meets a "newbie" vampire Mistress - Selene - only in her 60's - who has run away from her Vampire Territory & overlord. The story & explanations of the vampire world with these two Newbies was wonderfully written. and you can expect no less from ANY of Joey's novels.

There are parts of this book that I find very hard to read. I hate violence against anyone but especially against women. Anyone one reading this and knowing what Ms. Hill writes will probably be confused about this statement. I should point out that her books are more about surrender and connection through the application of pain. The pain I am talking about is a bully hurting someone because they can.

One of the best parts of the story is reading the fight between an absolute asshole like Laurent and Butch, who I have found I like very much. It is very enjoyable to read those pages. This book is not going to be for everyone so please do some research and read some other stories about the vampires and BDSM before starting this one.

Hmmm 🤨 This read like “Instructions to Vampire 101”; usually I can sense the attraction between the two that will get together…. This “forever” was a bit forced and accommodating to their personalities like a square being shoved into a sphere - they didn’t quite fit. 💔

Yeah, I guess I tried to read this before? Failed again.
Just… not working for me.

Heroine is rubbing me the wrong way; the whole character is just too much. Too cool, too knowing, forward unto rude but no one seems to mind— IOW, your typical Femdom Sue. It’s all just so… BDSM™. Corny.

The vampire angle is kinda boring, and handled kinda weirdly so far (on the one hand, it’s the excuse for a bunch of standard fdom shenanigans— like her determination to Maintain Emotional Distance— but on the other hand, she just up and bites him a few hours after they’ve met because… “hiding in plain sight” or something…? it doesn’t make sense).

There’s a mildly weird race thing happening: our Texan heroine Selene Torres is for some reason lavishly white (after a full page of golden shimmering locks, cool pale skin, golden hair, rosy nipples, and pink lips, I noted to self, okay we get it: she's white aka beautiful), and our part-Comanche hero’s mentor/advisor, shaman Sam Red Elk, is described like this:
He had an odd way of showing up at unexpected times, giving Quinn counsel that, while sometimes cryptic, usually steered him onto the right path.
Yeah. Seriously. I literally laughed out loud at that. (How, um, retro.)

The sex is sort of boring and unhot, and the word of the day is “cunt.”

Needs a surprising amount of suspension for a PNR.

A resounding meh. DNF at 15%.

I guess I have unusual mix of topics I'm interested in. I like fem-dom but not menage. With all of the BDSM male-dom you would think there would be more fem-dom however this is not the case. Its either a 'domme' who is a sub/switch by the end of the book or includes a menage or is much more kinky than I get into.

There is very little menage in this book and the domme remains as such, so I consider that a definite plus. I liked the character and thought that although the fast consent to everything on Quinn's part was a little forced there was definitive character development.

Overall I think I would normally give this book 3 starts but because its an abnormality in an already sparse field.

According to Goodreads, this is book 9.6 of the Vampire Queen series by Joey W. Hill. When I was offered this to review, I was given the publishers site to check it out and nowhere on that site was Vampire Queen mentioned. Although on my “to be read” list, I have yet had the opportunity to read The Vampire Queen series. It appears Nightfall takes place in the world of Vampire Queen, but it reads, mostly, like a stand-alone book.

Meet Quinn Pedreza. A former bull rider turned rancher with a small spread in central Texas. He perceives himself as all alpha male, and for the most part he his. He has won the After Hours Saloon in a card game and is trying to run both the ranch and the saloon. Little time for sleep with that kind of schedule.

Enter Selene Torres. A no nonsense bit of female the steps in and takes charge, very efficiently.

These two very alpha personalities come together, sparks fly, then some very interesting dynamics emerge. Not necessarily the expected dynamics. That is what made the story hold my interesting. The slightly different twists and turns and the unexpected.

When we first meet Selene, she comes across as uber strong willed, and confident. She knows what she wants and isn’t afraid to go after it. We quickly find out she is a vampire, and those are not unusual traits for a vampire. Then we learn some of her back story. Although the back story reinforces the strong will and confidence, we also find she was at the end of her rope and close to losing all hope. Not nearly the master of her world that we thought she was. I wasn’t sure how I felt about Selene for much of this story, because of this. Maybe this is where having read the series may have clued me in about how the politics in this world worked. I didn’t find out until the end of the story, so some of the decisions Selene was making didn’t make a lot of sense to me.

Quinn agreed with that opinion to a certain degree. He is, after all, a born and bred Texas alpha male. Things are supposed to be a certain way, and it was impossible for him to let some of this stuff go. I admired that he was able to be comfortable enough with himself to give up some control to his partner, but there is just some things a man can’t coup with. He had so much to learn. But, for the most part, he handled it well. I had to love him even more.

For a good portion of this story, I didn’t care for it. It wasn’t happy with the decisions being made or the explanations being given for those decisions. I felt the relationship between Quinn and Selene was unrealistic. However, once we got into the vampire politics of the world, it started making more sense to me. This may be where reading the series that came before may have been useful. But then again, if I had known that, would the end have been as much of a surprise or as interesting? I did like the ending. It made me cheer with renewed hope for this world.

I think I need to move the Vampire Queen series from my “to be read” pile to my “must read now” pile. Looks like a pretty good series. But, be warned, it also looks like it is dark and violent as Nightfall was.
