RaShelle Workman is the undisputable queen of the fractured fairytale genre and Vampire Secrets is no exception to this rule. It is now one month since Jasmine's encounter with Maleficent, where she sacrificed a part of herself to save Laeddin. Jasmine is emotional and incomplete without her vampire abilities and black wings, which distinguished her from other vampires and she is still adjusting to life as a human. Vampire Secrets is set after A Beauty So Beastly and the connection RaShelle Workman made between the two retellings is continued in this story, as we watch Troy struggling with the loss of Cole. His sadness bonds him to Jasmine and they form a comfortable friendship, which quickly develops into something more for them both. Although I relished every moment Troy and Jasmine share, I found Jasmine's indecision about her feelings disconcerting and was unsure about the 'love square' which followed. Laeddin has an indispensable role in Vampire Secrets and Christopher's appearance adds a dangerous sexual tension to the story, but I always prefer a vanilla romantic plot! However, this is a very personal choice and I think for most readers this element will add to the story's intrigue and excitement. RaShelle Workman is able to build her urban fantasy/paranormal plot with the addition of new characters like the Akuma, who fit perfectly alongside the existing vampires, shapeshifters and other magical species. The Akuma and the threat they pose to Jasmine and her group of friends heightens the suspenseful atmosphere, making the story even more compelling. Any fans of RaShelle Workman will adore Vampire Secrets, the ending of which leaves us gasping and breathless! For any new readers I suggest grabbing the first season of Blood and Snow quickly and catching up before Vampire Nights is released!
After having a piece of herself torn off her body, Jasmine feels helpless. Still trapped in the human realm with only the genie that got her into this mess, and two friends who are beginning to more and more resemble people she has known since birth, Jasmine being kept in the dark about many things. In a disturbing turn of events, that phrase is proving to be more literal than it was meant to be. Some mysterious force is causing the amount of daylight to quickly decrease by the day, leaving Jasmine no choice but to forget her missing vampire abilities, and put everything on the line to stop the increasing darkness. Will she and those closest to her be able to make it out with light to spare, or will the world be forever left in eternal darkness? If you liked the first book in this series, you may like this book.
I'm just confused. This whole thing with Christopher is weird and I can't figure out what is really going on or how it fits in with the story. Jasmine needs to stop and think about what she is doing, because all of this impulsiveness has gotten her in quite the predicament. I can easily say that everything is her fault. The sad thing is, she doesn't even learn from her mistakes. Things are getting worse and it is all because Jasmine acts like an idiotic, brainless, hormone infused teen 99.9% of the time. Heck lets just make that an even one hundred percent. She is frustrating me to say the least.
This was a very good book. Even though I'm reading the bundled version it seems that chapter 13 is a repeat of chapter 12. So a part of the story is missing. Other than that this was very exciting and I wonder what cost Jasmine's second wish costed her and her loved ones.
*I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review*
Ok, first of all, I absolutely love this cover. I think it's my favorite of the Blood and Snow books. I just love how Jasmine's dress is white and there are black feathers everywhere, especially after the loss of her wings. I also really like all of the small details, like the genie lamp in the title. I cannot wait to have this gorgeous book on my shelves.
Although this book picks up a month after the end of Vampire Lies, it doesn't feel like that much time has passed... and yet, it also feels like an eternity. Jasmine has moved on, but everything is so different. Jasmine is no longer dependent on blood, her wings are gone, and she's miserable despite having everything she wished for. I really felt for her, and I really just kept hoping that things were going to pick up. Oh, she's also got these crazy visions and a creepy visitor.
I really enjoyed seeing Troy again in this book. I first met him in A Beauty So Beastly, but it's interesting to see how these stories all run parallel to each other and affect characters across the country. He's still upset over the events in A Beauty So Beastly, and I thought it was really nice that he and Jasmine can find comfort for their individual problems in each other. I enjoyed watching their friendship blossom and grow in to something more, and I was so happy for Jasmine that she had finally found a healthy relationship.
I do wish we had seen more of Laeddin, Zoe, and Peter - they're around, but they pop off to go take care of things in other realms and it's a little frustrating to not know what's going on. I mean, we get the basics, but I wanted to know more! Hopefully there will be more in later books, and although it didn't lessen my enjoyment of Jasmine's story, I found myself with more questions than answers.
Vampire Secrets is, overall, a really fantastic continuation of the Blood and Snow world. We get to meet new characters, see familiar ones, and witness the consequences of Jasmine's wish. And then there's that ending! I cannot wait to find out what the consequences will be, although I'm pretty sure I'm going to not really like the outcome.... especially since the consequences have not been favorable so far. I will definitely be on the look-out for the next book, and would definitely recommend this book to anyone who has read Vampire Lies. Also, I would recommend the series to any fans of fractured fairy tales! 4/5!
Vampire Secrets picked up right where Vampire Lies left off. Jasmine is recovering from having her wings torn out of her body by Maleficent and the world around her is falling into darkness. Literally, sunlight is mysteriously disappearing, leaving the world confused and preparing for the end of the world. Our clan of heroes tries to figure out how to stop Maleficent and her evil demon army. Jasmine finally comes to the realization that her inability to accept herself as she is was the crucible for this upcoming disaster.
The story was well-written but there were a few plot discrepancies that left me disconnected from the story. One, even after Jasmine's mom and dad have revealed that they know where she is and what she did, they still leave her alone, fully knowing that Maleficent is after her and that her life is in danger; with as much care as they've always shown to Jasmine, this seems very much unlike them. Second, even though Jasmine realizes that her disobedience to her parents' rules is the cause of the disaster, she still blatantly disregards other rules they had set into place for her protection.
Overall, I did love the book and am still hooked to Jasmine's storyline. The author has a fantastic way to twist modern fairytales and characters to create something new and original.
Jasmine and Laeddin are back and she need to somehow get her wings back but how will she wish them back or how will she achieve this .. also Christopher is back and is he bad or good news .. last time he had Jasmines mom Snow now he wants her daughter he says he is her betrothed but is that true .. and what about her feelings for Laeddin or even for that matter Troy .. and will Troy and Professor Pops find Cole and where is cole at is he in danger and can they get him out before darkness overtakes every realm ... and will Jasmine and Laeddin find the pieces of a Crown and who is Arthur i know i know sounds like Camelot but it is with a twist ...and is Sharra really back and is Malifiecent going to turn Jasmine into something else and if not will Jasmine win in the end or perish to find this and more preorder the book then read it as soon as possible this is a ARC copy got it a few hours ago and read it and now reviewing it so want to know more and what does troy turn into and who is his father i know but not telling and who is Peter and Zoe if you have not figured it out yet well read it to know and will Cameron ever be friends with Jasmine or be her enemy until next read and review read on
I received an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review and I have to honestly say. OH MY GOSH! As usually Rashelle goes above and beyond! I loved some of the plot twists with the characters; and the ending! Oh the ending I had to read 2x just to make sure it really happened!
Vampire Secrets is the 2nd in a series that follows young vampire Jasmine as she learns to navigate with her consequences of her first wish while she still tries to go to high school and do high school things. Then people from school start disappearing and Jasmine is caught in the middle. As Laeddin travels from his realm to hers in his research Jasmine is often left alone with Troy (OMG PLOT TWIST!) and Peter and Zoe who as a group start hunting demonic creatures. Then Maleficent/Sharrah shows up. Oh there is just so much to say but I don't want to spoil it! Make sure you do read Beauty So Beastly as there is a few sneaky sneaky parts that refer back to that awesome book too!
My first book I ever read by Rashelle was Sleeping Roses and ever since I have been hooked! I love her retelling of the classics with a supernatural twist! I love that this series is being released in larger novels instead of a bunch of smaller ones. Although I would read them either way!
This is book 2 of the Blood and Snow Season 2 series and it started right where Book 1 left off with Jasmine just having her wrings removed by Maleficient. Jasmine just doesn’t feel the same afterwards and is trying to deal with the loss as well as still adapting to being in the human world.. Now that she is a somewhat normal teenarger, Jasmine can’t help wonder who these Akuma are and what they want. Its up to her, Peter, Zoe. Laeddin and others from next door (yup, Professor Pops is back!!). Then to make matters worse Christopher (the main in Jasmine’s dreams) is back and he wants what he feels is his.
This book was awesome! I absolutely love the Blood and Snow series and I am loving Jasmine’s story as she is a powerful character and has a lot for us to learn about. Rashelle is an amazing author! I love how she takes a classic tale and puts a spin on to it, making you love them even more. This story (as well as the others) pulls you in and you can’t help but feel like you are living the story yourself (one of the qualities I look for in a good a book). I can’t wait to read the next installment!
If you are looking for a good “fairy tale” than pick this one up!!!
Another great installment in our paranormal twist for princess Jasmine. Jasmine is trying to move on and have a normal life as much as she can. But deep down she knows that none of this is truly over. Jasmine still has battles to fight and villains to defeat. With the help of her parents and some trusty friends she does what she can to protect all that she has. Jasmine also appears to be in a love square. Pretty much like her mother Snow was. But with a hard truth that she doesn't know if she can accept one may be out of the question for her. The other is forbidden from being with her, but her interest comes and goes seeing as he tries not to break those laws. The other man we're all familiar with and in my own personal opinion I still don't trust him. He whispers the same words he whispered to Jasmine's mother. He's just trying to see if Jasmine is naïve enough to fall for his pathetic tricks. So far she has been unfortunately.
Vampire Secrets by RaShelle Workman. This is the 2nd book in the 2nd season of Blood and Snow. I was just able to sit down and finish this. Im so happy i was able to get an ARC copy of this book. IT WAS EPIC. Although i am mad at RaShelle because she left us with this CLIFFHANGER and now i have to wait for the next book! *Growls* whatever *scowls* Anyway, i love how she was able to intertwine parts from A Beauty so Beastly into this!! <3 Next to the Blood and Snow world, A Beauty so Beastly is my favorite book of RaShelle's!!! But, back to Vampire Secrets. Overall this book was beautifully written and i loved it!! GREAT JOB RASHELLE! I cannot say anymore because otherwise i will spoil something for everyone....Vampire Secrets officially releases September 14th. (i will get it on my kindle) Pre-order now!!
I received this ARC free for my honest review, lets just say Rashelle Workman did not disappoint. This story was breathtaking and completely amazing! I normally do not like fantasy fiction depicting fairytales bt from the very beginning of this series I was in love. I read all of Season One and just started Season Two and still I'm IMPRESSED!! I cant wait for the next installment, and I love how she decided to do it in larger increments as compared to the first season where there were 12 or 13 books and each one was released individually at 99 cents. Although, I would pay individually either way.
You need to read this book, but start from the very beginning I promise she won't disappoint.
I just love this addition to the Blood and Snow series. The end of the last book left me with so many questions. Especially about Troy and Cole. They have quickly become some of my favorite characters of this series and cant wait to read more about them in the coming books. I would have to say that I am definitely a fan of Jasmine and Laeddine and cant get enough of them in these books. I am anxious to see where things go with them, and as we are all wondering, when will Jasmine get her wings back? Each installment in of these books are such a wonderful read, so make sure you pick up your copy so you don't miss out on such a splendid fairytale story.
This book continues the story started in Vampire Lies. Jasmine has no vampire powers since Maleficent took her wings. She and Laeddin are on the outs. She discovers that Zoe and Peter are her parents. She meets Christopher, her mother's Hunter. And, she learns that Troy is a dragon. The Winter Dance is coming up, there is a new threat in town, and the police are hounding her about Abby's death. This is all on top of the angst involved with being a teenager. The story leaves you on the edge of your seat.
This book was good but it was a little bit all over the place. And by that I mean there was a fair bit going on. I enjoyed Troy's character, not so happy with the inclusion of Christopher and I don't trust his motives. There were a few parts where I was like 'just tell your parents silly girl'. Haha. Laeddin did a whole lot of nothing in this book in my opinion but overall I Iiked the way this book ended. I hope Jasmine gets get bloody wings back soon!!
I received a complimentary copy to read and review. I loved it. It's another great installment of the of the Blood and Snow Season Two series. I couldn't put it down. The characters are great. The story is great. It has some great twists and turns. I highly recommend it to others to read. You won't be disappointed. I look forward to reading the next one.
Vampire secrets has to be the most amazing book ever. Can't wait to read the rest of the series and find out what happens next to jasmine. RaShelle Workman is the best author!!!!! Love all of her books :)
I was disappointed when I turned the page & found it was the last. That's how much I was there's with Jasmine & her family. Absolutely can NOT wait for Vampire Nights. Just when I thought I was done with reading vampire books RaShelle Workman brought me back in!
