Unbelievable characters

The character of Marie did not react as an abused wife, she was both verbally and emotionally abused. The dialogue did not ring true. The wagon train did not encounter the true difficulties of such a trip.

Do writers write for the sake of it?

I have never read a book with such description of the terrain and what each cowboy did for breakfast lunch and dinner EVERYDAY as I did here on this book! VERY PREDICTABLE! Don't think I'll be reading the rest of this series!

Well, to be honest, my opinion is that Ms. Stapleton should not quit her day job. The book was not bad, just very predictable. It was a free download... I guess you get what you pay for!!

This book was recommended to me by a discount ebook service based on the reading preferences I listed when joining their site. I am a voracious reader of historical western romances and I have discovered some great titles by authors new to me through this method. I am sorry to say that this book did not engage my emotions or keep my interest. There was not enough depth given to the two main characters, and the secondary characters were not developed enough to be interesting. The ending was abrupt and unexpected, and thoroughly unsatisfying. This book is part of a series, but I've only read this one title.

Good

At first the book was a little bit slow but it did get more interesting. I do think it drug out a bit too long. I figured out the marital problem fairly early and got impatient for that to be discovered.

Trio-Oh No

Having recently finished book one of this series, I went on to tackle Book 2. We focused on a completely different group of people traveling to Oregon. The team leading the travelers was basically the same. The trip was grueling and some passengers presented problems.

Marie traveled with her husband. This turned out to be a strange group. Her husband's twin sister was the third member of this group. The sister expected too many be given preferential treatment. She complained to her brother about his wife's treatment of her. (This is the trip I mentioned above.)

I look forward to reading book 3 in this series.

This story is good ...after you figure out what's what and who's who at the beginning of the book. It starts out more like a screenplay for tv with no descriptions. Luckily I had recently enough read the preceding book in the series to understand. Then the ending was too abrupt. Don't try reading this without having just read book one, Undeniable.

Good reading

As with the first book in this series. I found it difficult to put down. Thoroughly enjoyed the storyline and of course the characters. Although it would have been poetic justice for Charles and Hester along with Ellen's father meeting their end. Oh well.
Looking forward to book three.

very good

This was very good. 5his is the second time I have read this book. Still just as good as the first time. This one is about Samuel and Marie. Samuel is the wagon master and Marie is married to another. Her marriage is in question when she finds out her husband is having an affair. Samuel has eyes only for Marie and will wait for to make up her mind. Very enjoyable read.

I really enjoyed this book. I look forward to the next one. It gave me a lot to think about what it was like for the pioneers traveling by horse & wagon.

I skimmed most of these pages to be honest. It was a free download... Glad I didn't pay for it, won't worry about the rest of the series, really not my kind of book.

A DELIGHTFUL WESTERN ROMANCE

A great storyline with a few surprises at the end. The pull of attraction and how you handle it is the measure of an honorable person. Thank you for an entertaining story, Danny Scott.

Nothing happens in this book. I mean, it was an interesting look at the Oregon Trail and the things they endured to travel this road, but nothing happens. I skipped about 100 pages halfway thru and missed nothing. I was able to pick it up right where it had been and never even went back to read those other 100 pages.

When I started reading this book, I felt quite excited: historical romance, check; wild West, check; really good descriptions of the landscapes they were going through, check.
It only took a few pages however to realise I just could not relate to the characters; ***alert: some plot spoilers ahead***
All of the characters we came across seemed to have one single layer, either really good people or really nasty ones.
The reactions from the wife to the abuse from both husband and sister in law were remarkably good natured - and yet, for someone who was so good natured and devoted to being a good wife, she seemed to fall quite easily into a different set of emotions with Sam. It got to a point where if I could I would have gone ahead shaking some of the characters and slapping the rest of them. I breathed a sigh of relief when Sam finally hit the dreadful man - I felt that once the despicable nature of the twins' relationship came to light everyone's reaction was very watered down. At a time like that I would have expected them to be in the very least lynched - but I could be exagerating.
I loved to know about the landscape, but at some points the description of their daily routine actually became cumbersome - it didn't aid the story to know exactly what they were eating at each meal, and how many times they washed their clothes.

I think the author writes well but is actually perhaps more enamored with the trip than with the characters, which could explain the lack of depth.

This is Book 2 of a series. I didn't read Book 1 as this was offered by Play Books as a free eBook. I stayed lost in several places, not knowing how or why Marie married her older husband. That situation was explained briefly at end of book. One situation with Jenny, a friend of Marie's, was never resolved by end of book, which was disappointing. Another situation with Del, a friend of wagon master Samuel, wasn't resolved either. Several things of interest on a wagon train weren't described, which was disappointing. Most of the time I never knew in what area of the country they were traveling. Where is Soda Springs four instance. Why was the soil full of alkali & what did vinegar and molasses actually do for alkalinity? Or was the remedy just to soothe a stomachache? Did the settlers even have stomachaches or was the effect of alkaline something else? The romance itself was okay, but the ending was confusing. The author seemed to have decided she had enough pages to publish, so she just cut off part of the ending, not writing an epilogue. If you can read all of this series, maybe you'll enjoy this book better than I did.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE books by Laura Stapleton. She does write a lovely romance. I'll start by saying that technically this is a stand alone type book - but if you have read Undeniable (the first book of The Oregon Trail Series) a lot of what takes place and is said in this book will make more sense.

I love how Laura writes and the may that she makes you feel like you are actually there on the trail ride with them. The way that she describes the surroundings is absolutely amazing!!! This story starts with Marie Warren traveling west with her husband and sister-in-law. The trail boss is Sam Granville -- who keeps an eye on Marie even though he knows she is a married woman. I don't write spoilers -- but this is definitely a very interesting story with a few twist thrown in on the side. You will definitely not regret reading this book.

I was given a copy of this book for an honest review.

It was very slow paced at times and some of the descriptions of the travel routine could have been trimmed. The reason for her being "undesirable" did seem a bit much - siblings, and Twins? You'll understand if you read it.

The romance between Sam and Marie was good. I just wish the ending - the one thing that could have used more writing - wasn't so abrupt.

The story overall was okay and was detailed to give you a good sense of what going west was like. But again, some of it was repetitive and I found myself skimming some parts.

I found the side story of Del and Ellen interesting. They have their own story so I may someday try that one.

Captivating love story !

So interesting how the author kept true to the traveling of this wagon train to Oregon and entwined a sinister husband committing incest with his twin sister under the nose of his wife. I couldn't put the book down. I do wish all three books were just one.

This book was very good. Its all about traveling west by covered wagon to Oregon. The story line is about Marie Warren traveling west with her husband and his sister. The trail boss is Sam Granville and he is very taken with Marie but she is a married woman. There is the side story which makes the story very very interesting..it seems like Marie's husband and his sister have a big secret they want to keep very very quiet. All these things intersect and makes a great story. Highly recommend.

This held a lot of promise, but fortunately it didn't deliver.

There was an unbelievable amount of repetition: making meals, washing clothes and bedding, collecting firewood, sitting round the camp fires…. Over and over and over. I wanted some real conflict, instead I got Marie scrubbing plates or washing clothes or collecting water and lusting over her thoroughly unpleasant husband and his even more unpleasant sister.

The end was deeply unsatisfactory. Threads were left unanswered and I felt somewhat cheated.

The book was pretty good. It had parts where you wanted to hit the husband and sister. It even got to the part of almost wanting to strangle the heroine because she didn't have a clue. What made it interesting and good was the circumstances while some were the normal settler issues, it was different enough in other areas to keep you going.

It still confused me as to why a lawyer would take a job to take settlers across the LANs when he didn't have to? There was enough there with other characters to look forward to the other books in the series.

I liked this quick read. The heroine is traveling west to Oregon and the guide who has been hired has eyes for her. She is however married and is traveling with her husband and his twin sister. As the story moves along, she comes to understand that her husband wants nothing to do with her - because he is having an affair with his twin. The guise helps her get a divorce and they eventually marry.

I really enjoyed this book up until the last 50 pages or so. Then suddenly the pacing completely changed and I ended the book thinking "that's it?!!?!" It was a bit dissapointing, I have to say. But I really did like he rest of it. I'd probably give the book a 4.5 star rating if not for those last 50 pages...

Traveling the Oregon trail has always been an interest of mine. While reading this book I pictured the trail and the struggles the travelers faced. The romance that formed was an extra and rather sweet. I enjoyed the love scenes and liked that they were genuine. To be honest, once I started reading this book I couldn't put it down. I look forward to reading more in this series!

I liked the vibrant description of the territory traveled on the story. It was a slow, meticulous build that ended abruptly. Hester and Charles worked my nerves. I can identity with feelings Sam had about racial discrimination and the derogatory name calling. I am really starting to like historical fiction. Even though it ended abruptly, I'm glad the right guy got the right girl.

Marie is much abused by her husband and his sister but she doesn't seem to realize it. On a wagon train to Oregon she meets other people and enjoys their company. But in trying to gain her husbands attention she instead is embarrassed when her husband sends Sam instead of coming himself. Can you blame her for seeing Sam as a man now?
