What a short and adorable reprieve from reality!

The story mainly follows our FMC, Otogi Katsura — a beautiful, sweet, and angelic first-year high schooler and class president. Loved by everyone (yes, even the girls — she has a fan club!), she's affectionately known as the school’s Heartthrob. By her side is our MMC, Toki Ninomae, the equally beautiful, sweet, and angelic vice president.

Together, they practically radiate — like divine beings basking in the glow of perfection, while the rest of us mere mortals watch from below.

But little do you know...

It’s all an act! MWAHAHA!

ˏˋ°•*⁀➷ I love two-faced main characters, and in this story, both leads are delightfully deceptive. Early on, they accidentally reveal their true selves to each other and quickly strike a deal: keep each other’s secret and work together to maintain their angelic image. It gives strong “You and me against the world” vibes~

Otogi Katsura is a blast to read. She’s lovable, yes — but also hilariously narcissistic. SO narcissistic. For example:

𝕆𝕥𝕠𝕘𝕚 𝕥𝕠 𝕋𝕠𝕜𝕚: 𝔼𝕧𝕖𝕣𝕪𝕠𝕟𝕖 𝕥𝕙𝕚𝕟𝕜𝕤 𝕪𝕠𝕦'𝕣𝕖 𝕦𝕥𝕥𝕖𝕣𝕝𝕪 𝕡𝕖𝕣𝕗𝕖𝕔𝕥.
𝕋𝕠𝕜𝕚, 𝕤𝕞𝕚𝕣𝕜𝕚𝕟𝕘: 𝕎𝕙𝕒𝕥 𝕒𝕓𝕠𝕦𝕥 𝕪𝕠𝕦? 𝔻𝕠 𝕪𝕠𝕦 𝕗𝕖𝕖𝕝 𝕥𝕙𝕖 𝕤𝕒𝕞𝕖?
𝕆𝕥𝕠𝕘𝕚, 𝕕𝕖𝕒𝕕𝕡𝕒𝕟: ℕ𝕠? 𝕋𝕙𝕖 𝕞𝕠𝕤𝕥 𝕡𝕖𝕣𝕗𝕖𝕔𝕥 𝕡𝕖𝕣𝕤𝕠𝕟 𝕚𝕟 𝕥𝕙𝕖 𝕨𝕠𝕣𝕝𝕕 𝕚𝕤 𝕠𝕓𝕧𝕚𝕠𝕦𝕤𝕝𝕪 𝕞𝕖.

̿̿ ̿̿ ̿̿ ̿'̿'\̵͇̿̿\з= ( ▀ ͜͞ʖ▀) =ε/̵͇̿̿/’̿’̿ ̿ ̿̿ ̿̿ ̿̿

ˏˋ°•*⁀➷ That said, as I mentioned, this was a pretty short read. Because of that, the characters still feel a bit surface-level. We know they’re putting up a front, but we’re not told why. Their family situations? Total mystery. But honestly, I’m not too bothered — this is only volume one, and I have hope that future volumes will explore their depths more.

ˏˋ°•*⁀➷ One more (minor) issue: the story is told from Otogi’s point of view, so while we get a peek into her feelings as they begin to shift, we’re left totally in the dark about Toki’s. He stays calm and smooth throughout — always saying things that get her flustered — and I kept wondering: Is he flirting because he actually likes her, or is it just part of the act?

In conclusion, if you’re looking for something light and fluffy to pass the time — or a perfect palate cleanser between heavier reads — this one’s for you. It’s a fun little romcom with just the right touch of chaos.

GUYS THIS IS MY VERY FIRST ARC I'M SO EXCITED!!! Thanks, my buddy Netgalley, will be sure to give an honest feedback to this <3

Also, the FMC has PINK hair?! AND we've got a Silver-haired MMC? I feel blessed.

Both main characters have a "hidden side" or a "dark secret" and it's literally just them not being overly nice all day long and them not tolerating any kind of rude and abusive behavior.

FIRST IMPRESSION VIDEO HERE: https://youtu.be/URvDUhAjBzs

Updated Review 9/27/25: I liked this volume more then I did the first time! (I even bumped it up a star rating!) Otogi still isn’t a fave for me in this volume, but I can tell she’s rubbed off on me and excited to read more! AND excited for the romance!

Original Review 3/10/25: I worry that the overhype got me on this one because I thought it was okay? 😅

Sure, it had its cute moments, but I didn't really "click" or get attached to either of the leads. I know they have a hidden side and seeing Otogai not be nearly as narcissistic at the end as she was in the beginning made her more likable, but I also didn't feel really compelled to want to get to know her better? 🙈

I'm not one to focus on art, but I definitely think it is the strongest part of this volume. Everyone was so stunning! It didn't matter if it was the leads or the side characters, I loved admiring how everyone looked!

Unfortunately, though, that really is the only "praise" I have for this first volume. I've heard it "gets better" with volume two (based on what people have said after reading it on K MANGA), but I'm sadly not in a position to commit financially to a series I don't love when reading the first time and/or previous volume. 🙈

I don't want to say I'm going to "drop" this, but if it sparks my interest, I'll look into volume two after it releases. 😅

[Thanks to Netgalley and Kodansha for an ARC of this book in exchange for an unbiased review.]

This story has a definite charm to it and while it may seem like I’m not rating it highly, I have great expectations for it in coming volumes. The foundation is here, it just needs to build on it.

Otogi is the perfect angel at school, but her facade hides a very sharp tongue. When it lashes out in front of her equally angelic classmate, Toki, it turns out that neither of them adhere to the facade they put forward in school. Cue Otogi being obsessed while denying being obsessed.

If I have a primary complaint, it’s about how much this story keeps Otogi on the back foot. While not as bad as some other stories I’ve read, a lot of the drama involves imperilling Otogi and then Toki stepping in. I’d much rather the two of them had a little more equality amidst their similarities.

In the same vein, there’s also the way Otogi keeps trying to rattle Toki, but seems to be the only one who’s getting that doki-doki feeling. Oh, there are hints, but this absolutely is not the second coming of Kaguya-sama. They’re both interesting, at least, but the dynamic’s more skewed than I tend to like.

The reason I think this story has potential is because it is, in fact, gorgeously drawn, with a face game that sometimes harkens back to You and I Are Polar Opposites (ironically). The scenes of Otogi desperately fighting Cupid’s arrows are very amusing.

Second, the entire coffee shop storyline is an absolute belter and if the whole thing had been like that this would be a five star review with no notes.

It opens up with Otogi preparing to refuse an offer to meet Toki, but every time she tries her subconscious gets in the way and she does the exact opposite. It’s very, very funny and I hope this turns into an ongoing gag.

Once she reaches the shop, she gets to meet Toki being both his most charming and most true to self. There’s a lot of really fun backstory and plot revelations, all tangled up with some light flirting and a dash of romance. It’s really well done.

Not all the characters make such a strong impression; one of the supporting cast really works and the others are fairly unmemorable and/or kind of annoying. Sometimes the writing is there, others not so much. This reads like a first volume of something that needs to find its footing.

The story’s central conceit about maintaining a facade and finding the person who loves you for your true self is good enough. It doesn’t hurt that the true selves of both these goofs just happens to be a lot frostier than their goody two shoes routine at school.

Needless to say, that doesn’t beget rampant hooliganism; this isn’t that sort of story. It’s shojo through and through, no matter how Otogi tries to frame Toki’s other side as particularly badass. A blackened marshmallow is still a marshmallow inside.

3.5 stars - It doesn’t quite hang together perfectly, but I definitely see where it could pull itself together into something special. And, even if it doesn’t, that non-date date made it worth my time anyway.

thank you to the publisher for an arc!

this was a sweet start to a new shojo series — both our mcs are regaled as angels, but actually have two-faced personalities (altho they’re still super sweet at their core!). i’m excited to read vol 2!

The art in this is indisputably gorgeous. Our leads are especially beautiful, so on that basis alone this is a 5/5. But the plot itself doesn't hold up very well. These "secret" selves aren't shocking at all; they're just assertive. It's hard to take that part of the premise seriously as a result. Maybe if more backstory is give I'll feel differently.

One Direction escribió "They don’t know about us" pensando en ellos.

This was a dark horse. I thought I would like it, but I wasn't expecting to enjoy it as much as I did. I definitely want to continue the series. It's light and fun and I can't wait to see how the MCs slowly get closer and closer together. I want the HEA, but I want a slow journey there, lol. So far, it's delivering.

Cute, with some serious topics, high school slow burn romance with two MCs who are sweeter than they think they are. The artwork is also gorgeous. I do recommend it, with the following warning.

There is a predatory teacher character who has a run in with the MC h and a minor character. Nothing graphic or overly horrible happens, but it can be a negative for those who have experienced something similar.

4, I am looking forward to the next volume, stars.

My thanks to NetGalley and Kodansha Comics for an eARC of this book to read and review.

This one is soooo cute so far! I really enjoyed this intro to the series. Not too much building within a relationship-wise but I enjoyed getting to know both characters. I'd definitely try more from the series. Loved the art!

Katsura and Ninomae are the president and vice president of their class, two of the most popular people at school known for their beauty and kindness. But things change when they reveal their true selves to each other...

Ok, so this was cute, I did have fun reading it, but something was just missing. I don't know if this is a thing with mangas in general or what it really is, but something that I wanted was not there. I also can't really pinpoint what it is.

I do believe that the plot moves really fast, and it just feels a bit awkward when suddenly the main character declares that she is in love with the male lead. There were also some cringe moments but those I can overlook for the most part.

One thing I absolutely loved tho.. THE ARTSTYLE!! SO GORGEOUS!

A charming beginning to what I am hopeful will be a really sweet and lovely shojo series. The different side that no one knows about doesn't really seem like that big of a deal, but I can understand it when you spend so much time and effort into creating this persona for the world to see so I am excited to watch our main characters relationship develop.

The side characters were also cute.

A new manga boy has entered the scene 😂 Ninomae is so pretty to look at. Katsura is super narcissistic, but honestly I thought it was hilarious (it's giving Gojo). I love how they both have a "hidden" side about them, but they don't feel fake even when they're being overly nice.

This is my first manga of 2025 and it was so good! I was worried that it wasn't going to live up to my high expectations, but I loved it. Rom-Com Shoujo manga's are my favorite and this series has so much potential.

This manga was really unique! At first I wasn’t sure how I felt about it because the two main characters are the “angels of the school” so they are beloved by everyone. Once the story continued and the MMC’s true colors showed the story got more interesting. Toji was really funny and had me cracking up out loud. I’m curious how the rest of the series will be so I will definitely give the second volume a read!

Thank you Netgalley and Kodansha Comics for the ARC :)

Admittedly, I'm not that big on shōjo manga and over the years that hasn't really changed. So, to be honest, I am not really the best target audience for this title and I kind of started it on a whim, since I liked the cover. Plus, I was in the mood for something more simple and fun. And what do you know, that's technically what I got.

Then again, it's also nothing special. The main character, Katsura, is a girl that on the outside is pretty much perfect. She is the idol (or 'Madonna') of the school, but it turns out that there are moments where her flawless exterior cracks. The same goes for Ninomae, the male lead she crushes on, who appears angelic on the outside, but who also has a different side to him. From there it is pretty much the typical 'girl gets in trouble (but not too much), guy does something cool to save her (but not too mean)'. I know where it goes, you know where it goes.

Which is okay, I guess, but to be honest you could do so much more with it. The supposed different sides they have are...really not that big of a deal? Like sure, 'honne' and 'tatemae', but it's not like they have a really dark side, more that they use harsher words in situations that warrant it. Also, while there were some cute moments, there were also some dialogues I found silly and not in a good way. I can't say much about English translation, just the Japanese original.

I will probably still read the other volumes to see where it goes. If you like shōjo and look for something that is quite typical for the genre, then take a look. The art is quite nice at least.

Thank you NetGalley and Kodansha Comics, for providing an eARC in exchange for an honest review! All thoughts are my own and left voluntarily.

Otogi Katsura and Toki Ninomae might look like the perfect and sweet class president/vice president duo, but in reality, they both have a hidden secret.. they both are two-faced..

This manga is really beautifully drawn. Add that + fmc with pink hair and ml with long white hair, and I'll faint hehe. I did appreciate that their attraction towards each other wasn’t just about the looks - it was about the sides of themselves they don’t show anyone else. All this aside, it somehow fell short for me. I'm not sure if something was lost in translation, but I wish that dialogues were more dynamic (especially when 'true side' comes out) and that there was stronger? plot presence. Also, I think 'Madonna' comments were far too many, so it lost its impact pretty fast.

Other than that, it was a quick read. Younger shojo girlies will enjoy this for sure.

The premise is a bit silly and kind of weak. Otogi Katsura and Toki Ninomae are the most beautiful, perfect and liked students of their high school. But one time, when they’re waiting for a train, she’s forced to angrily defend herself against harassers, causing him to reveal his angry side too. Basically, it’s just the two of them standing up for themselves.

Nontheless, they treat the existence of their firmer side as something shameful yet exciting that has to be hidden from others, and bond over that. Otherwise, they’re genuinely nice, even if they often have to put on an act. No delinquents or false angels, even if they aren’t as perfect as everyone believes. I presume that the plot from here on, besides the budding romance, is both of them letting go of their façades.

This was cute, but not interesting enough to continue, although some tougher topics were dealt with too. Art was nice.

Angels😇 or not?😈

The manga really surprised me – in the best way possible! At first glance, it seems like a cute and funny rom-com, but then a deeper storyline comes into play, making everything even more interesting.
The two main characters appear to be perfect angels in public – kind, polite, and gentle. But deep down, they both have a slightly less innocent side… and accidentally let each other see it. This leads to plenty of funny situations because they keep pretending to be the perfect angels anyway.
I really enjoyed seeing their different sides and how they interacted afterward. The mix of comedy, romance, and a more serious theme was really well balanced. I’ll definitely be reading the next volume!

I just finished this book with a HUGE smile. I love the dynamic between Otogi and Ikkoku soo so much! They’re both down bad for each other but Otogi is resisting!

This book has everything I love about Hoteri Hotette but it’s a series! I’m looking forward to seeing Coco Uzuki explore the depths of these characters and their changing dynamic.

There’s also so much potential for drama because of their “delinquent” side (which doesn’t seem that delinquent-ish to me but I’m looking forward to seeing how far Coco Uzuki takes it).

Anyways I already pre-ordered volume 2.

Carino.

Special thanks to the author(s), publisher, Goodreads and/or NetGalley for the review copy. All views and opinions expressed are honest and my own.

I absolutely loved this!! I had my doubts in the beginning but I was soon interested and captured by the beautiful artwork and characters!

This volume was interesting. We have not one, but two main characters who have a hidden personality that starkly contrasts their perfect school image. Both characters are also good looking, intelligent and so far, haven’t done anything illegal. And that’s exactly why I liked it. It’s refreshing to read a story where there isn’t any insecurity to how one looks or how unpopular they are, as well as not being an antagonist or jealous character. It’s simply a romance with two outstanding people who have a hidden personality.

The story started a bit confusing but was reminiscent of a show or movie opening with an intriguing line to capture the audience. The story follows Otogi and primarily highlights her interactions with Toki. I liked how it balanced their school life while building each character’s private life and personality. We learn a lot about the characters in one volume. It’s quite fast paced and includes some important topics that were handled with care. That said, the story has a lyrical feel to it with regards to its execution.

The interaction between Otogi and Toki had me smiling! I feel like they both have feelings for each other, especially with how they notice small things about each other. My favorite was when Toki realized Otogi was unwell and helped her to the nurse’s office. I’m hoping there’s no second male lead or unnecessary misunderstandings because I enjoy their dynamics.

The artwork is amazing. I love it! It’s captivating with its beautifully drawn characters, including side characters, clear expressions and simple backgrounds that highlight the foreground. I won’t lie, long hair male characters are my weakness. So, yes I loved Toki’s character design but I also loved Otogi’s character design. I couldn’t get enough of how beautiful they were. Also, I didn’t think a manga with many blank or white spaced backgrounds would be so good. It really proves that if the story and character expressions are done well, then supporting backgrounds are not needed.

Overall, I loved this volume and I’m looking forward to reading the next volume. So far, there isn’t any unnecessary drama and it’s a clear cute romance buildup. I love its simplicity and I’m looking forward to seeing how Otoko and Toki’s relationship changes and if or when their hidden personalities will be revealed.

“i finally found someone i can be myself with.”

this was a short and sweet manga that i definitely enjoyed! the art style in this manga was beautiful, seriously it was gorgeously drawn. plot: both the female lead and male lead have an "angel" personality around others but they actually have a hidden/dark side that they only showed to each other. i was really hoping to learn more about why they put on this personality instead of being who they really are, but unfortunately we didn't get that. anyways this manga series has a lot of potential and i look forward to reading the next volume to see how their story develops!

[ Thanks to Netgalley and Kodansha for the ARC in exchange for an honest review. ]

Contrary to a lot of reviews I see for this volume, it was, to me, the perfect introduction to this series!

I've been reading the Japanese version for a while before this was even announced as a license by Kodansha so I already loved it prior to the English volume coming out.

Coco Uzuki's art is always a delight to look at and I love how they crafted the perfect designs for this pair of main characters. The female lead is beautiful, refined and delicate looking with a strong side to her, and when she pulls a serious face she looks so cool! The male lead is equally as graceful, with long hair framing his face and an angelic aura to him, except tucking his hair behind his ear will be enough to reveal his cool side with an undercut and piercing holes.

I seriously love how they both play this role of perfect people, filling in for everyone's expectations for them, and enjoying doing so, while also having an opposite and charismatic personality on the other side.

I've seen a lot of people say this volume was lacking or that they didn't understand where the story was leading or that they thought it was too cliche, but I personally think this is a really great and fun first volume of a shoujo romance. You have the typical trope of "there's a beautiful boy, girl falls in love first", etc etc. Except you add a girl who's on equal footing with said beautiful boy, which isn't all that common, and you also add a twist that they both have this "secret" identity that only the other knows about. Isn't that fun??

I genuinely had a lot of fun reading this and think it's a great start of a series. Showing their bickering and how they get along in their own way, the art is gorgeous and I love the comedic tone to it too! I can't wait for more to be translated!

Fall in love, you false angels is a sweet, hilarious and heartwarming manga that follows the themes of shared secrets and hidden personalities.

We follow class president Otogi Katsura who is titled as madonna of her school. She is beautiful and sweet, everyone loves her. However it is just a face that she puts on, the impression that makes her likeable. On the reality side, she is brash, straightforward and doesn't shy away from the bullies if ever encountered. Her vice presidential counterpart, the equally beautiful and seemingly perfect Toki Ninomae comes across the real Otogi when a group of boys tries to get all handsy.

Turns out, Toki is quite fond of her new side, because apparently he has another side too. The always calm and composed Otogi begins to fall for him too. Having their secret hidden from others forges a stronger and cute connection between them.

Could this partner in crime begin to bloom into something more?

I loved this manga. It was a palette cleanser and I absolutely devoured it. The protagonists are highly likeable and I especially loved chapter 4 and 5. The story is engaging and the artwork is fantastic. It totally took me by surprise as I am obsessed with both of them. I cannot wait for volume two.

It's a definite recommendation for the rom-com manga readers.

thank you thank you thank you to the publisher and netgalley for the e-arc!!!

i am positively shrieking!! i don't think any shoujo manga has got me feeling like this since Daytime Shooting Star!! it just has that vibe that you can tell it's going to be spectacular. it really is giving Kaguya-sama but this is so different and i love it.

firstly i have to say this art style is absolutely adorable and if not for the story, stay for the very cute art!! i love how cute the fmc looks, but there are subtle shifts from the rose background to sparkles to show when she is trying to be cute vs cool. and the mmc..... god the princely aura he has normally is very nice and shoujo manga but when he turns badass!! so yes, come for the art, stay for that and the story.

and this is just the first volume, but oh god. i like how easy the names of the main characters side of the tongue,, Toki Ninomae and Otogi Katsura. very nice. i love how they have a hidden side to them that they accidentally showed each other and this led to them being able to be true to themselves around each other. i love the Dark Ikkoku persona and their dynamic is actually so sweet i'm going to get diabetes. it's also nice how Toki is opening up to her by inviting her to the cafe where he and Gen-san work....

anyway. back in my shoujo manga era. i will be following this manga now~

Otogi Katsura and Toki Ninomae are the Class President and Vice President. And both of them are hiding secrets—they’re not as perfect as their public facade.

I friggin LOVED this manga. It was absolutely adorable. I giggled and swooned. The artistry is SO GOOD. I watch anime so I can just imagine some of the scenes and they are just hilarious.

Watching Otogi come to terms with being crazy about Toki was so sweet. And seeing how Toki can’t help but laugh and be himself around Otogi? The cutest.

Seriously, I kept showing the Hubs different scenes. This is going to be a manga that goes on my shelf because it’s just too cute not to. I can’t wait for more!!

This first volume was cute and the art style / character design is really beautiful, however, the plot was kind of too simple and empty in my opinion. Fall in Love, You False Angels is about a girl and a guy who both pretend to be ‘angelic’ but have a completely different personality outside of school. They find out each other’s secret and become closer.

I don’t really understand why they lead double lives and aren’t just true to themselves. I think if they focused on that aspect, the story could have been more profound and the characters more relatable. It was kind of just nothing. I likely will not be continuing the series unfortunately.
