Jennifer Benton’s family died in the first wave of zombie attacks. She found friends in a small group of survivors, and she’s fallen in love with Mark, the charismatic young man leading them.
Though the survivors now have a fragile sense of safety, some of Jennifer’s new friends die, and she has a beautiful blonde rival. Jennifer thinks jealousy will bring Mark back.

This book.picks up where volume 1 left off. Mark and Jennifer are still together, they pick up a new person on the way to marks place in Oklahoma. It's burned to the ground. They have no choice but to go to Tent City. A sort of safe haven..not so safe. This book seems to be developing the characters further. We do lose Bill but gain a few others. It's not nearly as action filled as volume 1 but it seems to be written a bit better. No lie seems to be advancing in writing. No errors that I caught. well developing everything, besides characters, lifestyles they will have to learn to live with in a world of zombies. plus we have some surprises too. I'm waiting on volume 3 now. I can't wait to see what Mark and Jennifer, Kate, Lauren, Jacob and Todd decide to do. I'll be waiting.
It was ok, but not as good as I expected after reading the first installment. The premise still interested me, but this one just didn’t grab me the same way. I rolled my eyes many times.
Benton: A zombie Novel Volume Two is a continuation of the Benton series written by Jolie Du Pre, and narrated by Angie Hickman.
If you’re just joining us now, the Benton books follow the main character Jennifer Benton; daughter of a survivalist who joins a ragtag group of teenagers who are heading south to Texas to find safety. Book two picks up with them heading in that direction and dealing with all the drama that comes with the end of the world via zombies, and being teenagers.
I enjoyed book one even with its YA feel and book two follows the same premise and design. The main characters Jennifer and her love interest Mark are the sole focus of the story, and to take that sentiment even further, their relationship becomes the central facet of the whole story. To be clear, this is a story less about the undead and survival, and more about falling in love and having sex in the apocalypse.
Some of the love scenes and sexual interactions felt more adult than YA to me, though a mature teenager would fare well with Du Pre’s writing. The action scenes are short and described simply, though with more dynamic wording than in the first book. I thought this was an improvement over the first title, and kudos for that.
Jennifer and Mark’s characters receive some solid development part two. The evolve into more real and believable people, and that makes the story feel more genuine. Tertiary characters felt thin in this entry, including the ‘threat’ to the relationship that is the core of the story.
I was disappointed in the length of the title. In audio it’s less than two hours long and on paper it’s 120-odd pages. This is at most a novella and really a short story and reads like the second part of a serial blog. That’s not criticism, it’s just a reflection of the story’s size. And, as you’d imagine with a serial story design and feel, the ending of Benton part two is fairly abrupt, and is absolutely a cliffhanger. If you’re invested in the story by this point, you won’t want to stop here. You’ll have to move on to the third installment.
Angie Hickman continues her narration well, bouncing between the different characters with ease and skill, making the story easy to follow. Her pace and cadence is pleasing and I’ll definitely listen to her other titles.
Overall I felt that the Benton series solidified its flavor solidly into the teenage romance genre with this installment, and if you’re into that kind of series, this is sure to entertain you. I personally prefer a more adult feel to my apocalypse, with a bit less sex so I’ll leave this title for the kids, and find something a bit more in that vein.
Jennifer Benton is only a teenager and she lost her family to zombies. After leaving her home she met up with a group of survivors and they banded together to try to find a safe haven.
This is the second volume in the Benton series. The first novel ended with Jennifer battered and bruised from an attack by another survivor, but justice prevailed and she escaped his clutches and he ended up being bitten by a zombie. It was Jennifer herself who put him out of his misery.
During all this she falls in love with a fellow survivor named Mark and Mark feels the same way about her.
The plan is to head to Texas where Mark's family has a ranch and Book 2 opens with them on their way.
However, things change during the zombie apocalypse and the group ends up saving another girl from zombies who then joins their group.
Unfortunately the new girl is gorgeous and seems to have her sights set on Mark. Jennifer (like any other teenage girl who sees someone showing interest in her man) is jealous. She knows that she has nothing to worry about, but she can't help how she feels.
The group meets more people in this book and the group dynamics shift and evolve.
Review:
This book is well written and character driven. In this second installment we learn more about Jennifer and Mark and their relationship.
Even though it is the Zombie Apocalypse, men and women still have relationships and as usual, there are problems that arise.
The difference is that during the Zombie Apocalypse there are added pressures on couples and since every day could be their last, emotions tend to run high. As a result of this, sometimes decisions are made where the consequences are not taken as seriously as they should be.
BENTON ends with a cliffhanger that left me wishing that the third audiobook was already available.
I am a fan of both the author, Jolie Du Pre and the narrator, Angie Hickman.

This book continues the story of Jennifer and Mark fighting their way through a zombie apocalypse with some friends. They are still searching for safety and they come across Lauren and save her too. When they finally reach Mark’s family ranch they are devastated. There are no zombies but the house is burned to the ground. With nowhere else to turn they end up heading to tent city, where a bunch of survivors are living. Once they get there things start changing. Mark is in a weird mood ever since seeing the ranch and having to go to tent city. When Mark gets a little too friendly with Lauren than Jennifer would like, she tries to make him jealous and that doesn’t work out too well. When tent city is attacked by zombies they decide to try to leave, but then there is a hitch in their plans. This is a great story. I love how it is fast paced and the story just moves right along. Can’t wait for the next one.
Benton Vol 2 is definitely an entertaining read! I was given Vol 2 as an audio book and I felt the voice actress did a pretty good job differentiating between characters. I still felt like I couldn't connect with Mark very well, but that could be because it was an audio book. If I was reading the book in a paper or e-book format, I think I could connect a little better since I could form my own voices for the characters in my mind. I loved the action packed parts of the novel. Very exciting!
I'd give it a 3.5 since it was entertaining, but leaving me wanting a better connection with the characters.
This book takes up where volume one ended. Jennifer and Mark, and their friends make it to Texas, but all is not well. In an effort to save themselves, they move to Tent City. This is a very good book, and we learn more about all the characters, their strengths and weaknesses. It has some twists and turns that will creep up on you. Next volume due in September 2014.
While I've always maintained that Zombie novels were never really my thing, Jolie du Pre writes a compelling tale that makes you wonder just what would happen in the event of a Zombie attack (or, really, any sort of natural disaster). In the second installment, the story takes a few rather serious turns that leave you wondering what will happen next. I can't wait to read book 3.
This book was pretty good. If you are in the mood for a quick zombie read this is for you. The book is very fast paced and there's not as much action as you would expect in a zombie novel. You will meet new characters and learn a bit more about the original ones. All and all it was a good book.
Once again Jolie has done it ! I am only upset it was not longer. I am enjoying the way the characters are developing. I will be very impatiently waiting for volume 3 !
Love this zombie series...but it is about much more than that. It is about survival, friendships, love and finding and more. The characters are well developed and it is a fast paced book. (as is book 1) Also for YA & up.
An ok read, Due to the sex scenes in it I wouldn't give it to my 13 year old son to read, but it would be something he would enjoy. Maybe 15/16 year old boys/girls would be a great target audience. A quick fun read about zombies and learning to survive in a world where they are taking over.
The characters are well written and thought out, the story is spot on, you feel for the losses and are happy when they are. It's got all the good zombie guts blood and gore but also has super sweet folks you want to live!
