I hate to say it, but this is too sweet.

I read the novel straight after finishing the first volume of the manga. Odd to say, but I think the manga was better.
The manga felt like it had better pacing overall, that the flow just made more sense, with things like when to start a flashback.
The light novel also had a lot more monologue from the MC, which had a side effect of making her seem more like a ditz whose brain got scrambled by love. Like... the story painted her as a calm, clever girl, and those monologues made her seem like she wasn't. The manga cut out the monologues so it felt like she was more "grounded". It also felt rather odd that she went from "duty and responsibility" to "LOVE!" so quickly. In the manga, at least, it's not framed as outright love and more like being fascinated by the ML's looks.
I enjoyed the side stories though, showing the other characters and what they thought.

The manga was a million times better than this crap. Especially once it got to the bonus stories (a huge portion), and it reveals just how actually empty headed her stepmother, sister, and the prince are, the rest of the royal family is just…I can’t even describe them, but kind of sociopathic, and her father is cartoonishly bad. Like he always super doted on his second wife and younger daughter, and abused the older daughter (and almost certainly murdered his first wife). Once the older daughter is gone, he’s suddenly abusing his wife.
The emperor doesn’t care about crimes that don’t affect the empire. Uh…so allowing injustices like obvious murder DOES affect the empire. It is pretty basic to have a system of law and order in place to maintain an orderly society. The Lotus family is supposedly of royal blood and important, but gets tossed out easily. The much more normal solution to the entire mess would be to have Sophie rule, as she is competent, caring, and intelligent, and has royal blood. But nope, now she’s run off with the best knight and is just…doing stuff.
The writing is absolutely terrible, do not waste your time. The manga was at least funny, so someone worked hard on that adaptation.

I hated this book with all the pov’s and fourth wall breaking.
However, I did like chapter 8 and part of 9. Also, half the book is either side stories or the same part from a different perspective! One chapter was from a horses pov! (╯°益°)╯彡┻━┻ After that chapter, I lost all hope for this book. Imma read the next volume because I bought it, but I know it will be a STRUGGLE!
Side note: blueberries eyes are blue not purple. His eyes in the colored illustration are purple like lavender or lilacs which would’ve been a better analogy rather than calling them blueberries one line then purple the next! (╯°益°)╯彡┻━┻

DNF at 20%. The manga is 100x better.

Read both LN and manga. Manga has better pacing. It’s nicely written just too fast on the LN.
