Akira Toriyama (鳥山明) was a Japanese manga artist and character designer. He first achieved mainstream recognition for creating the popular manga series Dr. Slump, before going on to create Dragon Ball (his most famous work) and acting as a character designer for several popular video games such as the Dragon Quest series, Chrono Trigger, and Blue Dragon. Toriyama came to be regarded as one of the most important authors in the history of manga with his works highly influential and popular, particularly Dragon Ball, which many manga artists cite as a source of inspiration.
He earned the 1981 Shogakukan Manga Award for best shōnen/shōjo manga with Dr. Slump, and it went on to sell over 35 million copies in Japan. It was adapted into a successful anime series, with a second anime created in 1997, 13 years after the manga ended.
His next series, Dragon Ball, would become one of the most popular and successful manga in the world. Having sold 260 million copies worldwide, it is one of the best-selling manga series of all time and is considered a key work in increasing manga circulation to its peak in the mid-1980s and mid-1990s. Overseas, Dragon Ball's anime adaptations have been more successful than the manga and are credited with boosting anime's popularity in the Western world. In 2019, Toriyama was decorated a Chevalier of the French Ordre des Arts et des Lettres for his contributions to the arts.
In October 2024, Toriyama was inducted into the Harvey Awards Hall of Fame.

Midori used to be way smarter before she got married into the family. Perhaps she got dumbed down because she was too smart to marry them?

Colección manga recomendada: ''Dr. Slump'', de Akira Toriyama. PLANETA DeAGOSTINI COMICS. 40 tomos.

This was a very funny volume filled with shenanigans such as Turbo being abducted by aliens and the power he ended up with and the baseball at the end. All was funny.

Midori has a baby boy. They name him Turbo. Senbei's out to get presents from people but doesn't pay attention to Turbo who crawls away and gets hit by a spaceship. He's killed, but the aliens are able to bring him back. Changed. He now has psychic abilities. Midori thinks she's the one with the powers, though.

Turbo turns out to be able to fix car engines, do teleportation and loads of other things. Later Senbei goes off to see some strip-teasers and leaves Turbo with the Gatchans, Arale and Obotchaman. Turbo can also fly and even speak.

Turbo creates a robotic version of himself that goes crawling all over the world. Then there's a funny section with Turbo going to school.

Next is a story where they all to to a fancy restaurant and have no idea what to expect or how to act.

A ghost shows up at the house and it's a woman that wants to be brought back to life. Senbei figures he can go back in time and stop her from being killed in the first place.

The next game is about a baseball game between an American team and a team from Penguin Village. The village team takes a 1-0 lead in the first. The American team scores four runs in the top of the second. The game goes on and the Penguin Village team wins, as is to be expected.
