This Halloween, prepare to be haunted by a kiss…
Midnight Kiss is a limited edition collection of four BRAND NEW, NEVER RELEASED novellas, all set in New Orleans on Halloween night.
AFTER MIDNIGHT by Sarra Cannon From the outside, Becca Goldberg looks like any normal freshman girl at Tulane, but she’s been keeping a terrible secret. She’s really Allison Moore—a young witch from Peachville hiding out from an evil coven of witches known as the Order of Shadows. She thinks she is safe until an unexpected accident occurs. Now, she only has until midnight on Halloween until her identity is discovered.
She must turn to the hottest, most elusive guy on campus for help. Will he help save her? Or will her life come crashing down around her after midnight?
THE MIDNIGHT TEST by Juliana Haygert Being the weakest witch of her generation, nineteen-year-old Hazel is convinced she’s supposed to live a normal, human life—except for the occasional ghost hunting. When Hazel moves to New Orleans, the most powerful witch coven in the world grants her a chance to join them, but only if she passes a dangerous test on Halloween night. Everything is going fine until mysterious Sean steps in Hazel’s way, putting her entire test at risk.
Will she be able to ace the test and keep them both alive at the same time?
SEDUCTION’S KISS by Alyssa Rose Ivy Never agree to a road trip to New Orleans with your roommate. At least not when your roommate is dragging you along while she reconnects with an ex boyfriend. Possible consequences of failing to take my advice:
1) Unknowingly going out with a vampire stripper. 2) Getting kidnapped by said vampire’s nest mates. 3) Falling head over heels for your winged hero.
Believe it or not number 3 is the worst one, especially when no one believes you that he exists.
KISS OF AWAKENING by Jennifer Snyder With one kiss, everything will change…
When a mysterious letter arrives from her estranged mother, twenty-one year old Kenna Blake and her best friend, Bree, make a trip to New Orleans hoping for a little Halloween fun and to get away. The mystifying Crescent City has something else in store for her though.
Cryptic messages, a hot tour guide, and a new sense Kenna can’t seem to explain are just the beginning of this eye opening trip. Will Kenna accept what awakens with in her or will she crumble under its reality?
I'm so excited to be part of this collection of four brand new NA Paranormal Romance novellas. My novella is called Seduction's Kiss, and it's the prequel to Owen's story! :)
Midnight Kiss is available now!
Want more of Owen and Daisy's story? The first book in their new series is releasing in 2015. Lure
I'm marking this as read because the only story I wanted to read in it was After Midnight. I finished After Midnight and loved it. Every time I read one of Sarra's paranormal books, I am impressed with how well she writes. The world of Peachville Demons is so intricate, and yet she never gets any of her facts confused and the timelines work perfectly together. I really hope she turns AlLison's story into a series. We'll see what happens.
4 stars - A fun collection of swoon-worthy paranormal stories that I definitely enjoyed!
Midnight Kiss is a collection of four stories. All are pretty quick reads, and they all have paranormal aspects and plots that are intriguing. The stories all stand on their own, but there are some fun links throughout the collection, such as locations, that I enjoyed spotting. I'm going to break this down by story now, since (as I said) they are all their own, solid novella.
After Midnight by Sarra Cannon: I liked how this story built up. We started with knowing small details that escalated into a serious situation that I was honestly intrigued by. The main character, Becca (or Allison, depending on which of her names you'd like to use), wasn't a character I ever felt too close with, but I didn't dislike her. John, the love interest, however, started out bad. He was just such a jerk. He changed sufficiently, but too much of this story was spent with me not feeling good toward him. That took a huge hit on the romance. The storyline was interesting enough to keep me reading, luckily, and then the romance had some good moments. I didn't much enjoy the romance as a whole, because of John's behavior and because of the quick on/off/on thing that happens around the end of the story, but I did end up liking this story.
3/5 stars for this one. It's a good story to ease into the anthology, and it did have some moments I very much liked.
The Midnight Test by Juliana Haygert: This story had a bunch of witch aspects I enjoyed. The main character, Hazel, was a super cool chick, and all the magic stuff was her norm. I liked going through that with her, and seeing how her life was. Sean was the love interest in this one, and I liked him right from the get-go. He's a nice, attractive guy. A stand-up guy. The kind of guy that doesn't let a girl walk into a definitely dangerous house by herself. He had a crazy story of a past Halloween under his belt, and that tied into Hazel's story. This novella built up in a way I liked, and I was interested the whole way through. The romance worked for me, as well. Sean and Hazel started off cute, innocent, and casual. Then their relationship grew in such a cute way. He gets impressed by her badassery, and then she was his girlfriend and I was like AWWW. I loved these two together. That romance mixed with that premise, dipped with a touch of witchy elements made this story so enjoyable.
5/5 stars - Such a sweet, fun story!
Seduction's Kiss by Alyssa Rose Ivy: This story was my favorite of the collection. It started out with the most intriguing preface that had me so excited to read the story--which didn't disappoint! We have the MC, Daisy. She's confident and going about her life with those situations she gets herself into. They seemed kind of irrelevant at first, and I wondered when the mysterious OWEN would show, but everything made sense one the story got to a certain point. Specifically, once Owen showed up. There were some guy characters I kept wondering about. Whether they would be the actual love interests. But nope. That made the romantic elements seem delayed, but also not...in a way. Because I already knew about Owen. I just didn't know MUCH. But the plot of this story was solid. Every time I made a guess about how things would turn out, something would happen to shoot that prediction down with the quickness. On top of the fabulous story and swoon-worthy romance, there was also a great title tie-in. I love when the title ties into the story perfectly.
5/5 stars - LOVED this story and I will definitely be checking out The Crescent Chronicles! I need to get my hands on more Owen!
Kiss of Awakening by Jennifer Snyder: Kiss of Awakening began with lots of backstory. The information was good to know, but it also slowed things down so that I wasn't drawn into what was going on until later into the novella. The information given to us at that point grew into the clear idea of the MC's life. I liked having that view of Kenna's every day situation. The premise of this story was mighty good, too, but it did take too long for things to actually happen. Kenna was a descriptive narrator, which could be helpful at times, but otherwise caused the story to drag a tad. Delvin turned out to be the love interest, and I so approved of him because he was nice, sexy bartender. That's always fun, right? I enjoyed him! His romance with Kenna started off with chemistry. You could feel it in their interaction. They regarded each other casually, but together they totally sizzled. Then, farther in the story, they got into a heavier romantic situation to which I say YUM. That romance paired with the fantastic twist (TWIST! Yes, a twist! And I loved it!) made this story one that worked for me in the end. And I'll also be checking out the Tethered Trilogy sometime, surely.
4/5 stars - Little drops of interesting info broke into Kenna's happenings in this story, making it hold my attention and ultimately work for me. Plus, TWIST. And Romance!
Overall: Midnight Kiss was an enjoyable collection of stories that I got through pretty quick. They were fun to read and have me interested in more from all four of these authors. If you're looking for a great collection of paranormal romance stories, Midnight Kiss would be an awesome choice!
A great collection of stories which each include a young, strong woman coming into her heritage. Each is different, but each make their transition in New Orlean during Halloween on the night of a full moon. Well done!
AFTER MIDNIGHT by Sarra Cannon Imagine that you have to live your life always looking over your shoulder afraid that the Order of Shadows will find you and take you away. Well, this is Allison’s life. Hiding out in New Orleans, all she wants to do is blend in and be normal, well, as normal as a witch can get. She has a crush on a hot guy, John Pierce, but he rarely gives her the time of day. Her life gets a bit hectic though when the potion she desperately needs each month to keep her ‘hidden’ literally falls out of her hands. It then becomes a race against time to find a way to hide from the Order. Little does she know that her help lies in the hands of John, but can they find what they need before the clock strikes midnight?
After Midnight was a great start to this box set. Full of twists and turns and a little New Orleans magic, this one was a delight to read. It was short and sweet and left me wanting more. There wasn’t a lot of romance with this one, but it was just the right amount of spookiness to set the mood for Halloween. I really want to see more of Allison and John and really hope they make another appearance in a future novel. Ms. Cannon is a new author for me, but I am definitely adding her books to my TBR list.
THE MIDNIGHT TEST by Juliana Haygert For Hazel, her dream of joining the White Sisterhood coven is put to the test when she is tasked the seemingly impossible in order to prove herself to the coven. The situation becomes even more complicated when sexy but mysterious Sean enters the scene.
The thing I love about box sets is that you get to discover new authors and in this case, fall in love with their work. The Midnight Test had all of the ingredients needed for a spectacular story. Witches, Ghosts and a blooming romance make this story one that kept me turning each page wanting to know more. It was a fast-paced and very intriguing story that kept me captivated throughout. Loved it!
SEDUCTION’S KISS by Alyssa Rose Ivy A weekend trip with her best friend gets messy as Daisy gets abducted by a nasty group of vampires. Lucky for her, a winged hero sweeps in and saves the day.
Seduction’s Kiss was really different from the first two books in this box set. I have not read any of The Crescent Chronicles yet, so I am not familiar with the back story on Owen, but after reading this short and sweet novella, I will most certainly check out the series. This one was full of some humorous and sarcastic dialogue which was quite a refreshing take on your typical paranormal romance.
KISS OF AWAKENING by Jennifer Snyder Kenna’s mother who has been absent for most of her life except for the occasional gift, delivers a cryptic message that Kenna just can’t ignore.
“The time has come, my sweet girl, for you to find out who you really are. The Kiss of Awakening is upon you.”
Along with this message is a plan ticket to New Orleans. The trip falls on Halloween weekend, so Kenna and her BFF, Bree, decide to make it a girl’s weekend. Who wouldn't want to go to New Orleans for Halloween…right? Once there, they meet up with a super-hot bartender, Delvin, and the three are inseparable as Delvin shows the girls what the Crescent City has to offer. One stop that Kenna must make is to the Midnight Cauldron where she is to get her gift from her mother. This gift however is one that Kenna only wishes she could return - for this gift will change her life forever.
Kiss of Awakening was amazing! Jennifer Snyder is a wonderful story teller, and her talent shines through in this novella. With vivid descriptions and a plot that keeps you wondering what is going to happen next, Kiss of Awakening is a definite page turner.
Overall Thoughts on Midnight Kiss: Four New Adult Paranormal Romances This box set of four novellas was as perfect as it gets and is well worth every penny. I really liked the fact that although each story was different, the author’s incorporated the Midnight Cauldron and its owner, Kalisa in every story. I thought it really brought all four stories together beautifully. I really can’t empathize enough on how amazing these four novellas are and they are a must read for any paranormal romance fan.
*I received a copy of this book from the authors in exchange for an honest review.
AFTER MIDNIGHT by Sarra Cannon This story sucked me right in from page one which a lot of books can't do that normally it's a slow start but not with this one. John to me he came off as a self-centered butthole, "when you've been around as long as I have, it's easy to tell when a girl has the hots for you," he said. Now he was the one teasing." But as the story grew so didn't John's sides and eventually I did fall in love with his a**. In his own way he is concerned and caring, "he cupped my cheek in his hand. "Then maybe it's time you stopped running and started learning how to fight back." Although this story didn't end in a cliffhanger it did leave some questions unanswered I'm really hopping that the author does a full length book and we see more of John and Alli. THE MIDNIGHT TEST by Juliana Haygert Sean he was too sweet for his own good, "why? No one asked you out yet?" he asked. I tilted my head, wondering what he meant. He must have seen it in my face, because he averted his eyes and said, "I mean, guys must have asked you, right? You're too beautiful to ignore. Then, what? You said no because you the one you want hasn't asked you yet?" I mean I enjoyed the heroine being kicka** this time around instead of the hero it was a breath of fresh air, and hey Sean didn't mind either, "his fingertips traced my cheek and I inhaled sharply. "The way you just marched in this house and confronted that ghost, it was bada**." I wouldn't mind seeing this duo in a longer story and see how their relationship goes. SEDUCTION’S KISS by Alyssa Rose Ivy Duncan he was a weird one, "a virgin. Have you had sex before?" He watched me carefully." Jeryl he gave me the heebie geebies, "have sex with them all? No. Of course not, Daisy. Your body is for me - and Duncan because he brought you in after all, but your blood. Your blood is for the nest." Owen we know him ladies from Levi's books and I'm happy we're starting to see the beginning of his story, "after all the work I've done saving you, I wasn't planning to hurt you." He smiled for the first time." I can't wait to see how these two unfold. KISS OF AWAKENING by Jennifer Snyder First of all I can tell you I didn't like the ending I was expecting my HEA not unanswered questions. Devlin I loved him right off the boy had that certain vibe about him, "I couldn't help myself." He pressed his lips against my ear so that I could better hear him. "You look too good out here to be dancing alone." And he tries to have patience with his girl, "holy hell," he muttered, pressing his lips against my ear as his hands resumed their previous position on my hips. "You're going to be the death of me tonight."
I received this enovella from the author in exchange for an honest review, I was in no way compensated for this review.
Also note, I am only reviewing Seduction's Kiss at this time.
Oh wow. Wow. Wow. WOW! I just devoured Alyssa Rose Ivy's Seduction's Kiss in a heartbeat it seems! And it was freaking incredible! I ADORE her Crescent and Empire Chronicles as they were the first of the few Paranormal NA titles that I found and after reading the Empire Chronicles, I was sooo ready for Owen to get towards a happy ending--or place as there really are no endings in this incredibly amazing series!
Daisy agrees to roadtrip it up with her friend and roommate to New Orleans so that she may reconnect with an old boyfriend. The trip does not go well for Daisy at all. Chad has two other roommates, and the first one keeps harassing Daisy in the worst possible way and the other is just the quiet type.
After venturing the city on her own, Daisy spends Halloween night hanging out with Duncan, the quiet roommate and learns quite a bit about the city and its inhabitants. Despite my love for all things paranormal starting with vampires, I never tire of seeing them in any fashion, and here they are quite villainous...and lecherous! Can we say eww? Daisy sure did! Haha.
Being a novella, this is a quick little read, so there's not enough words and what all to keep me eternally happy, but I did like seeing Owen get a bit of happiness...or possible happiness. The ending leaves you wondering where these two stand and all. For that matter, we didn't get to see much of Owen in the story itself either. We see him briefly in the beginning and then of course he's there at the ending when you pretty much know, he rescues Daisy from her predicament! *Not a spoiler since it's in the description above! ;)
I really enjoyed this one! I even enjoyed Shaun who was our resident douchebag. Towards the end he kind of lightened up in a way...at least in one that made me chuckle! I really hope this isn't the end of Daisy and Owen's story!
For fans of the Crescent and Empire Chronicles this is a MUST read! And it was positively delightful!
Overall Rating 4.95/5 stars--yes the awkward rating! My only complaint and what took off that little .05 was that there simply was not enough of Owen on the pages! Though I did love what we had at the end...there's going to be a novel eventually, right Alyssa? *insert puppy dog eyes*
This was too much fun! Light hearted, not overly serious, and just a fun fast paced read. I read all 4 books, one after the other, and finished the book in 2 days (It would have been less if my children hadn’t insisted on me doing things for them like taking them to soccer and dance, cooking, washing their clothes, etc. :) )
I had read (and loved) books by Juliana Haygart and Alyssa Rose Ivy in the past but Sarra Cannon and Jennifer Snyder were new to me authors (I had heard of them and I have promo’d posts I think for both, but I hadn’t read anything by them yet.)
I was sitting here thinking of which one I would choose for my favorite, and I wasn’t going to pick one. That is a really hard choice. But then I thought if someone sat me down and really pushed me to pick my favorite (since this is a review) I think it would be the first book in the anthology, After Midnight. Ask me tomorrow and I’ll probably pick another. I loved all of them.
There was a reoccurring theme through all the books with them being set in NOLA at the same time and all of them involved the Midnight Cauldron in some way, shape, or form. All of them had the romance theme and all of them had a little twist, one took me by complete surprise.
When I got done with Midnight kisses, I went off in search of new books from all of the authors. I already have some of Juliana’s books and a lot of Alyssa Rose Ivy’s, but I did purchase Flight by Alyssa Rose Ivy and grabbed the Beautiful Demon box set by Sarra Cannon for free. What I am trying to find (and if you know if they have been written or are going to be written let me know), since I know most of these authors (if not all) write series, if there are sequels with the characters that were in these specific books. I want them all. I want more from all of these authors, more of all of these characters.
These 4 authors are now ones that I will follow as their books are released, and hopefully get caught up on their back books. I really really enjoyed all of them!
Loved this collection paranormal novellas what a great group of authors to put into one book. I loved that each story had the Midnight Cauldron in New Orleans on Halloween incorporated to tie them together. I definitely downloaded the books tied to each story. Each story was uniquely amazing and addicting! I definitely recommend this book as a must read this October to get you in the Halloween mood.
The story I loved the most was Seductions Kiss by Alyssa Rose Ivy. Ever since I read The Crescent Chronicles I have loved Owen, don't get me wrong Levi is great but I have been hoping for more story on Owen. I am so glad we get a little piece into his life and I really hope there will be more for Daisy and Owen in the near future. Loved this short story just wish there was more of Owen!
I also really enjoyed was After Midnight, Allison and John are hard not to love. I was so happy to read the very end definitely making me giddy!! I want to know more about this world and hope there will be more of Allison and John to come!
Now don't get me wrong I have only great things to say about each story even if I picked my favorites. Each story grabbed me in it's own way and I cannot wait to read more by each author!!
I really enjoyed this set of four stories that take place on Halloween in New Orleans. I bought this book becuase my favorite indie author, Sarra Cannon, is a part of it and found that I have found three more author's I am interested in reading their other work.
I found two of them to be really maturely written ad two of them to be more geared toward a younger crowd, but all four had compelling and interesting characters. I really can't wait to explore the worlds of Juliana Haygert, Juliana Haygert, and Jennifer Snyder.
The only two things I found not as appealing in this collection is 1) The stories were rushed and the love bonds between the characters seemed forced due to that. I honestly wanted more from everyone, but that is the way it goes with short stories. 2) Although the Midnight Cauldron was in all the stories and the base for Kalissa was the same there were some differences regarding that character from each author. I found that to be a bit confusing.
Overall I loved this collection and I highly recommend it to anyone who wants a fast read, that is fun with a little evil beneath it all.
Firstly, take a look at the author names. Yep. That's right, 4 great authors in one anthology.
So, do the stories live up to expectations? Well, in a word, YES!
Now, I've already read and enjoyed the Peachville series from Sarra Cannon (well worth the read by the way) so this novella was an unexpected treat! Short, sassy and suspenseful - need I say more? Frankly I would have got the book just for that, so the others were an added bonus.
And, I'm pleased to say that I didnt think that there was a weak link in this collection. I thoroughly enjoyed the other 3 books, each with their own different Kick ass heroine. One of these books has an unexpected, but not disappointing, ending.
A tantalising glimpse of Halloween in New Orleans through the imaginings of these wonderful authors. And its fair to say that I'm definitely interested in reading more....
I received an advance copy in exchange for an honest review
With Halloween right around the corner, Midnight Kiss was just the right kind of book I was looking for. There are four short stories, After Midnight by Sarra Cannon, The Midnight Test by Juliana Haygert, Seduction's Kiss by Alyssa Rose Ivy, and Kiss of Awakening by Jennifer Snyder. These stories had the perfect amount of fantasy/paranormal, mystery, and a dark yet sexy tone.
Another thing I enjoyed was the setting of New Orleans, which was were each story took place. To me it surely added a more enchanting and mystical feel. I must say that my two favorite stories were Seduction's Kiss (my boy Owen's time to shine) and Kiss of Awakening. Overall this was definitely a page turner.
This was a great collection of novellas set in New Orleans. I was surprised because I LOVED each and every story in it! All four authors did such a fabulous job of creating interesting stories. This is the perfect must read for anyone loving paranormal romances!
**A Shadow Demon's Story by Sarra Cannon left me wanting more of John & Allison and what will come of their future. Allison is going to Tulane under a false identity in order to hide from The Order. She tries living under the radar and being invisible, only has a few friends, a PT job and a major crush on the quiet, loner yet beautiful John Pierce. In order for her to remain hidden from The Order she has to use a potion each month (made by Kalisa) Problem is, it's Halloween and she's supposed to take it at midnight when her so called friends give her a hard time about her non drinking and one goes through her purse finds the vial and they accuse her of using drugs. She lies in telling them it's for migraines but the vial ends up broken and Allison (Becca) has little time before midnight to try to get more. Kalisa can't make it but sends her to an old friend John-Pierre. Much to Allison's shock, he is actually the hot guy she's been day dreaming about. They end up trying to find the thing he can use to help her and through the process he actually developes feelings for her, saves her (for the time) from being discovered by anyone and saves the night. I am going to follow up on her other books in hopes that The Order will be brought down. **The Test by Juliana Haygert was just as riveting as the first story. Hazel is a witch and known in her family as being weak, without much of any with abilities. She goes to college, lives in a dorm and in her spare time dispells ghosts. She ends up being tasked with a huge responsibility in order to join the Light Sisterhood and she is worried she won't be able to do what they've tasked for her. She visits the local witch doctor (Kalisa) and gets a rare old deceased witches bone that makes her believe she is more powerful. Along the way she finds companionship in a fellow classmate that has lost his sister & best friend to ghosts and he's kind of broken but Hazel learns why and doesn't give up on him. Meanwhile, it's Halloween and she is doing her tasks believing she's more powerful with the witches bone and she does so successfully. Only to find out the bone was just a chicken bone..Moral of this story is to believe in yourself, whatever we hold inside ourselves is there for only us to bring forth. **Seductions Kiss by Alyssa Rose Ivy was just as great to read the second time around. I love how all 3 books (so far) have featured the witch Kalisa. I'm a huge fan of ARI and enjoy her supernatural society based in New Orleans. **Kiss of Awakening by Jennifer Snyder I couldn't continue reading due to my own loss of my mom to lung cancer.. I will come back to read at a later time!
I have bought this book long time ago. Well, on the day it was released. I have no idea why I haven’t review it yet. But the time has come.
AFTER MIDNIGHT by Sarra Cannon
This novelette tells us story of Becca, who in her previous real life was called Allison Moore and in the past she was a popular, beautiful and cheerful cheerleader. And now she is always living on edge, looking over her shoulder to ensure no one from Order of Shadow will find her. To make sure it doesn't happen she has to make sure to drink her potion at certain time and day of the month. Simple. But what if during Halloween night your friend finds the potion and accidentally damages it? Then you have to make sure you have a new one, but because life is never simple, the witch that was always helping Allison is not able to provide more of the potion and is sending her for help to someone she was not expecting. Like at all. The race against time, danger started and also feelings between her and her companion awakens.
This short story was fun and I loved it :) it made me go and buy other books by Sarra :)
THE MIDNIGHT TEST by Juliana Haygert
The main protagonist of this story is Hazel. A young witch that believes, that she is not as talented as the rest of her family. In order to be accepted to White Sisterhood she is entrusted with Midnight Test. As live likes to complicate things, Hazel meets Sean, sexy, mysterious and also sad. She is determined to get accepted and also help Sean move on from one tragic accident that happened few years back.
I really loved this part of the box set :) Hazel was the type of girl you will like and Sean.... well sexy and mysterious guys were always like a candy to me ;) In here we have ghost, danger, adventure and of course blooming romance :)
SEDUCTION'S KISS by Alyssa Rose Ivy
Everyone knows that I love Alyssa's books. And this was no other. Alyssa always makes my day with releasing new story.
And I just LOVED THIS STORY. Well come on. Who wouldn't love Owen and Jared together on a rescue mission? I loved Owen always and he was also a mystery in the previous books, but I could not wait for his story. And this novel is just a beginning, which made me jump in joy. Daisy is a college student, who gives in to her room-mate nagging and decides to go to New Orleans with Her for Halloween. She didn't expect a creepy room-mates of her friend's boyfriend. A visit to mystic store ended worse than she anticipated. But then finding a perfect guy at the end was worth the pain and danger. And the Kiss they shared? Has ruined her.
Alyssa once again showed her brilliant story writing and amazingly well developed characters. The book is really great!!
KISS OF AWAKENING by Jennifer Snyder
Ok, this story made me cry within few minutes of reading. My heart broke for Kenna. During her hard and sad times, she is receiving a cryptic letter from her absentee mother with short message and plane ticket to New Orleans: "The time has come, my sweet girl, for you to find out who you really are. The Kiss of Awakening is upon you." After talking to her best friend, Bree, they decide to go, have fun and find out what Kenna's mother wants from her. When the girls arrive, they decide to go to a Karaoke bar and there Kenna meets Devlin. A guy with amazing grey eyes and even more heart melting smile. They decide to hung out together. After a night of dancing and growing passion for each other, comes the day where she is supposed to meet her mother. She goes to a meeting place and what a surprise! Her mother is not there, but she has left her a small gift, a ring. After putting it on, she starts to see things that she didn't before. During Halloween Night, Hell of A Kiss with Devlin, and after meeting finally her mother, she learns what she is. And it's not a witch!
I liked this story, I expected more action between Devlin and Kenna, but the end shocked me like WOW! :)
Overall this is a great box set that is worth reading :)
A great collection of Paranormal romances that will leave you begging for more! Each of these books were excellent reads and leaves you wanting more. All of these books are set on Halloween in New Orleans. This alone had me intrigued! Each story meets at a familiar point- the Midnight Cauldron. It was so very interesting to see how each author viewed the Midnight Cauldron and the witch that ran it. Some people viewed the shop and it's witch as a savings grace, while other's viewed her/shop as a catalyst for things to come. Sarra Cannon's After Midnight introduces you to Becca Goldberg, witch on the run. Until I read this book, I'd never heard of the Peachville Demons, but now I'm a new fan! This book takes place after the Peachville Demon series from what I gather. I haven't had the chance to read her other series just yet, but, you might want to check it out before reading this section. Next author- Juliana Haygert gives us The Midnight Test about a young witch whose powers are much weaker than her families. She stuck with the task of closing the gaps between our world and the ghost on Halloween night. This one was my least favorite of all the books. It was also the only one that ended without a ton of questions or a cliffhanger making you want more. Still, it kept my interest and was still a good addition to the book. Aghhh next is Seduction's Kiss by Alyssa Rose Ivy (MY FAVE and the reason I bought this book). Ivy's FINALLY brought Owen's (from Empire Chronicles & Cresent Chronicles) love life to the table. I've been waiting for this moment for many years know and I was NOT disappointed. And can I add, after a discussion with Ivy I found out that Seductions Kiss is the beginning of a new series based on Owen and Daisy! Yes, I am one happy camper. But, back to the book, Daisy takes a random trip on Halloween weekend to be with her friend Reyna while she catches up with an old flame. Left as the third wheel she hangs out with the quiet roommate who happens not to mention he's a vampire. Without ruining the glory of Empire Chronicles and Owen, I will just say read the other two series first before reading this section of the book cause it'll make a HUGE difference. Plus, all of Ivy's books are wonderful! Lastly we come to Jennifer Synder's Kiss of Awakening. I loved the banter in this books between the two best friends and the Delvin (odd name choice). Kenna, whose father recently died of cancer and her best friend Bree take off to New Orleans on a wild goose chase thanks to a random letter left my Kenna's super mysterious mom. Always being drawn to New Orleans, Kenna takes part in this wild goose chase and her life changes forever. I didn't quite catch where this one was going up until right at the end, but I definately can see the room for growth. I would definately read a lot more from Jennifer Synder. For 99 pennies, this book was well worth my money and then some. It's introduced me to several new authors who deliever enough paranormal/new adult angst to keep me reading! Well worth it!
A fan follows an author wherever she goes, especially if she writes a holiday edition – spinoff of one of your favorite series! Sarra Cannon gifted me a copy for an honest review and of course I accepted. She is a talented author whose career I have followed since the beginning of her Peachville Demon Series!
In this anthology Sarra was able to capture the same world and feel of the Peachville High Demons series and it thrilled me to no end. Becca/Alli is a witch in hiding from the order of shadows and she also has a strong desire for normalcy! BUT of course something happens and she has to race against time with the boy she crushes on (Psssssttttt... he is cute ~ John)
The novella is drama filled and exciting and has the same beauty as the Peachville High Demon Series. I have missed them so much. It just gives me the nudge I need to read her other series of novellas out now too. Sarra, I tip my Nerd Girl hat to you! I <3 the voice that you give the series that I have favored for so long.
Please Note: I will read and review the other 3 novellas in the anthology at a later date. They sound just as lovely as Sarrra’s story, After Midnight. THE MIDNIGHT TEST by Juliana Haygert (TBR) SEDUCTION'S KISS by Alyssa Rose Ivy (TBR) KISS OF AWAKENING by Jennifer Snyder (TBR)
After Midnight- Sara Cannon I'm familiar with the background of this story. I've read the Peachville High Demons series, so I had heard of the main character.
This is a short story set on Halloween night. We get a glimpse into this world and those in it. Allison or 'Becca', is on the run from The Order, a coven of witches dead set against those that rebelled against them. After obtaining a vial that will keep her location hidden from The Order, only to loose it, she has until midnight exactly to get another. Unfortunately, she had the last bottle.
John Pierce comes in, surprising Allison. He's the only one who can help her. But does he?
The Midnight Test- Juliana Haygert Hazel is a nineteen year old witch. Problem is, her powers aren't that strong. Going to the White Witch's, she's given a test.
Enter Sean, a cute but mysterious guy, ghosts, New Orleans and a medicine woman and you get a heck of a brew!
Seductions kiss- Alyssa rose ivy Daisy heads to New Orleans with her friend, who desperately wants to meet up with her "the one that got away." Daisy wasn't expecting Shaun, the annoying roommate or Duncan, the weird roommate.
Owen comes in near the end. Which sucks because we don't get to know him. Hopefully he'll be back in a series?
I didn't have time to finish the last story, Kiss of awakening by Jennifer Snyder but from what I did read, it was great!
I love that its all on Halloween and how each story was different, but was based in the same place. Even had a store in common! This was a great box set to read, I loved the stories!
I bought this anthology when I saw the book by Alyssa Rose Ivy.
I am KIIIINDA in love with this author and her NA Paranormals. I loooove loooove loooove the Crescent Chronicles from which we meet Owen. He is a tormented soul and I have been dying for his book. When I found out he was getting a series.....HEART ATTACK!!!
The novella is really a glimpse into Owen's love interest Daisey. if you read the CC series you know Owen has his heart broken and is pretty much not looking for love. Well this book we meet Daisey. She approaches him and trypical Owen has noooo clue he is being hit on at a bar. I am guessing Jared is with him and tells Daisey he is sorry Owen is so stupid. Anyway, besides rejection from Owen, she deals with her friends DB roomate putting the moves on her. Well poor Daisey has had it so she goes shoping and stumbles into a voodoo shop. She is given a special potion to help her find love....welll that potion worked but it worked on the WRONG guy/guys...yes plural.
The end of the novel we get to see and hear Owens thought about Daisey. I cannot wait for more from this series. If you want to get to know Owen before this series starts then I whole heartly suggest reading from the very begining - Ali and Levi's love story.
Kenna Blake is dealing with the loss of her father after he battled cancer. While cleaning out her father's belongings, her out of the picture mother leaves a mysterious note on her doorstep inviting her to go to New Orleans. Kenna and her best friend Bree head to New Orleans to relax and get away and find out why Kenna's mother invited her there. As people on vacation do, they explore the town and hit up bars and sight see. That's not the only thing going on though, something is changing in Kenna, she's seeing things when she looks at people that she never saw before.
Kiss of Awakening was a really fast read, that focuses on Kenna's self discovery. The novella builds until the surprise is released. I wasn't sure what the surprise would be, I had a few ideas but I didn't guess right, which made me happy. I'm hoping the story is continued in a full size book, because I enjoyed the characters and world. JSnyder is one of my favorite New Adult authors, I recommend you snatch this collection up while it is still $0.99!
I read this initially because I'm a fan of Alyssa Rose Ivy's work. But all the stories were well done quick reads. I might have to try some other books by these authors!
After Midnight by Sarra Cannon As always, Sarra Cannon and her Shadow Demons don't disappoint. 5/5
The Midnight Test by Juliana Haygert I really liked this story. So much that I had to check out other books by the author. Well done! 5/5
Seduction's Kiss by Alyssa Rose Ivy A quick read and a lot of tension but I was worried quiet a bit about the characters choices and her naivity. After the room mate incident, why is she going out with the other „weird“ room mate. Ok, he didn't behave like a jerk at first but latest when it came to „are you are virgin?“ and „good, I would otherwise feel guilty“ should have rung a big warning bell. And finally, it nearly ends in a mass rape. I also didn't like that the owner of the Midnight Cauldron comes around thoughtless and as not very wise, while she really helps in the other books of this set. AND the end leaves you longing for more information about the couple... 3/5
Kiss of Awakening by Jennifer Snyder: Good story, it kept me guessing what the main characters secret is until the end. I also would like to read more about Delvin. 4/5
