Small Town Crime Develops to International Thriller

I really enjoyed Murder in Eagle Cove. It starts as a quiet, small-town murder mystery in Massachusetts but quickly turns into a major international thriller.

What made this book stand out to me was the main character, Detective Larry Saunders. Instead of being a lonely detective, he is a dedicated family man. It was really cool to see his college-aged son help him out with the investigation.

The story moves fast and keeps you guessing as different agencies like the FBI get involved. If you like fast-paced police procedurals and crime stories that aren't too dark, I highly recommend checking this one out!

Logan Bahr, the author of "The Murder in Eagle Cove," wrote this story to subvert the traditional outlier detective archetype. This was accomplished by creating a high- stakes psychological crime thriller. The author's goal was to create the character, Larry Sanders who was a dedicated family man who eventually relied on his son's Noad analytical mind to continue the investigation when he became physically unable to physically investigate the murder in the story. Ultimately, the author wrote a detective procedural where characters relied on observation, law enforcement structures, and intellect to solve the murder.

I must write there was nothing I disliked in the story. The narrative was very interesting, the story was believable unlike many detective stories, and the characters were easy to relate to in the story. The first of three strengths was the unpredictability of the plot. There were many twists in the plot which were often used to misdirect you in the story. For example, Mr. Sanders is incapacitated in the beginning of the story, which forces him to rely on his son's analytical approach to solving the crime. As previously stated, the second strength was how the reader was able to relate to the main characters. They weren't stereotypical; the majority of detectives were outliers and loners. The characters were team driven in their attempts not only to assist Mr. Sanders but to solve the mystery too. For example, Detective Sanders brought street-smart experience to the team. While his son, Noah, provided modern criminological theory and analytical techniques from his studies at the University of Massachusetts. The third strength was the uniqueness of the "Day of the Week" formatting. The author divided the chapters into the days of the investigation, which lasted eleven days. By creating chapters by the day, the author had created a sense of tension which allowed the reader to become actively involved in the story.

One should read the book if you have been searching for a fast-paced mystery which is uniquely written. The uniqueness of the story is how the author breaks from the usual detective tropes. The protagonist has a family and a life which is typical of your everyday person. In my opinion, the story has meticulous pacing which allows the reader to remain interested in the story and not become lost in unnecessary details. The story allows us to view the step-by-step nature of police work. There are not any sudden epiphanies to solve the case like so many detective stories one reads today. The book's grammar is error free, and the editing of the book is first rate. The book richly deserves a five star out 5 rating.

Get ready to learn all you can about Larry Saunders, his family, and his work.

This is not a fast paced crime novel as some might assume. There is nothing too ultra gory either, which is a change. I also really liked that there was not a whole lot of drama or fluff that was going on. I can say that the book could have been so much shorter had the author chose not to be so wordy. I am not sure if this was their first novel or not but, it did get quite redundant at times and just seemed to drag on and on. It could have been a shorter 400+ page book, that’s for sure. I can honestly say, a crime as well as many crimes, are not wrapped up neatly in a bow in a matter of 7 days. Not as easily as this author made it seem to happen. This story was a little Hallmark story written in book form, you could honestly guess what was going to happen next. Like I had said previously, this could have been a much shorter novel by far!

The story was directed to developing the characters and what was going on in their lives.

Larry is a detective for the Eagle Cove police department where he has started investigating a murder.

Upon finding out that the murder victim worked for an international bank, Detective Saunders started digging. That’s when he uncovers a possible inside job and a really bad character that seems to be calling all the shots.

Larry beings his son, Noah in to help with the digital aspects of the case. He is going to college for law enforcement, so he can intern and help with the case. His mom, Sandra is not too happy to have Noah pulled into the mix. This was all before Kristoff Johansson messes with Katherine, Larry’s daughter. That’s when Sandra is ok with Noah really getting involved in the case.

With all of this going on, Sandra has had issues of her own with her work. The lab she is in charge of has an incident with one of her coworkers and animals. It didn’t end well, and she was suspended as a result with a whole list of stipulations.

Where is the 7 million dollars? Can they catch Kristoff Johansson before he kills someone else?

Murder in the Eagle Cove is a murder mystery. The book follows Detective Larry Saunders as he is called in to investigate a murder in a seemingly peaceful house.

The book has a nice plot but the execution was lacking somewhat. For example, the book is verbose. There are so many passages with dialogues after dialogues which don't progress the story in any way. Also, the book starts as a simple murder mystery but then it suddenly takes form of a global financial crime, involving several law enforcement agencies.

There are also things which I liked. I liked the partnership of Noah and Larry. Furthermore, the investigation style of Larry is very realistic and he relies on real investigation techniques to solve the crime. That was refreshing to read.

After reading Murder In Eagle Cove and enjoying it so much, I was happy to have the opportunity to read Mayhem In Eagle Cove. I was "caught reading" until the very end! While reading Mayhem In Eagle Cove I was completely caught up in the story and would forget everything else but the content. The ending was a huge surprise and now I'm anxious for Greg to publish his third book. I'm hooked! Thanks Greg for all your hard work in putting these books together to provide such a pleasant reading experience.

It’s a roller coaster. There’s no breathing room. You have different teams working and uncovering details at the same time and it’s like I’m being dipped into a pool and the air bubbles are at their limit.

Mystery-wise? Wonderfully done. There’s guesswork going on until the very end. However, I felt the book was a bit dragged out. We see a lot of people and teams and their perspectives, and a particular scene is repeated at least twice in the form of briefings, either to superiors, coworkers, or family members.

Murder in Eagle Cove by Logan Bahr is the first book of the Larry Saunders Detective Series. I am reading this book for the second time and enjoying it immensely! It is a fast paced action packed crime novel that will keep your attention till the very end. The novel is well written and believable because of the author’s understanding of character and knowledge of the legal and law enforcement systems. I am captivated with this book!

Murder in Eagle Cove is a fast moving thriller that hooks you right away. When a body is found in a quiet Massachusetts town, Detective Larry Saunders is thrown into a dangerous investigation that quickly turns into a global chase.
The teamwork between Larry and his criminology student son adds depth and heart to the story, making the mystery even more compelling. With strong pacing, suspense, and plenty of twists, this is an exciting start to a promising crime series.

An action packed novel, with crime running rampant and police officers from several agencies hot on the trail of missing bit coin, the murderer of a banker and the action doesn't stop.
The characters were dedicated to their jobs and anxious to end the corruption that has infiltrated the town.
Kidnapping, murder, assault, everything a book needs to keep the pace moving along.
This was a new series for me and I am ready to move on to the next novel in the series.

The narrative is a cogent whodunit that exposes a money-laundering and embezzlement scheme with international implications in a small, peaceful town in Massachusetts. Detective Larry Saunder is investigating a homicide case when he sustains a serious head injury that requires surgery and a lengthy stay in the hospital. His son, Noah, an aspiring lawyer and criminology student, steps in to take his place and helps the local police solve the case.

The story is filled with bursts of solid action. Just when you think the suspect is identified and a final confrontation is about to happen, another twist appears in the forefront. Suddenly, you are bombarded with gunfights and exciting skirmishes. This is a recommended read for mystery aficionados who crave an unexpected hero who emerges from the woodwork.

Not really a fan of detective novels. This kept my attention but felt like it was just rambling. The subplot also made no sense to me.
