Debbie is the recipient of a Boston Globe-Horn Book Award, Robert F. Sibert Informational Book Honor, Sydney Taylor Award, and the National Jewish Book Award, among other honors. Before she started writing books for young people, she worked as a newspaper editor and a lawyer.
I was interested in the man who approved of the compromise of 1877 that gave birth to Jim Crow in the south. This book is a good overview of the man and his family.
