A time loop romance set over the holidays, 300 New Year's Eves is a low-angst, warm-hearted, second chance M/M romance, following self-involved photographer Sergio, as he gets stuck living the same New Year’s Eve Day until he learns many personal lessons and sets all his relationships to rights, including re-sparking a romance with the one who got away.

I’ll be honest and admit I’m not a fan of time loop stories and that is probably reflected in my experience and rating here. I find them too repetitive and I often get frustrated having to read (or watch) the same events playing out over and over, with only the slightest tweaks, regardless of the character growth they generate.

However, I really, really enjoyed K.C. Carmichael’s writing, her characters, their relationships, and the overall emotional tone of her previous two stories (Boystown Heartbreakers and The Kennedy Rule), so I was willing to try her time loop story just for kicks. Overall, it was a fairly pleasant experience, which I believe was helped by the fact that this was novella length and didn’t become as repetitive as I feared.

As it turns out, this stories biggest problem to overcome was the protagonist himself. Understandably, Sergio had to be a flawed character to elicit the kind of personal growth necessary for a time loop story to truly work, but boy was this guy flawed. During the initial chapters, I disliked his smarmy arrogance and rude self-involved, deeply vain nature, to the point that it really took me a minute to even care enough about this guy to root for him... but I got there eventually.

Thankfully, I was charmed and engaged by the small but effective support cast of characters who filled Sergio’s day. I particularly loved the little boy, Henry (son of Sergio’s best friends) and the love interest Jeremy, who had a solid backstory of his own dealing with chronic illness, which made this hit a little closer to home for me personally.

At the end of the day, I’m still not a fan of time loops, but I found this story super easy to read and devour in a day or two, personally enjoying the cozy wintery setting, the lovely found family vibes, and the second chance romance between Sergio and Jeremy that left me smiling and satisfied.

***A special thanks to the author and the publishers (via Netgalley) for providing an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

When I saw the cover and read the blurb, it sounded great. I've been enjoying these kinds of books a lot lately, and the plots have been romantic and admirable. Unfortunately, this one didn't quite work for me. To be fair, I'm not a fantasy reader, tho I do enjoy some time travel stories. But that wasn't the issue for me here... Sergio was such an ass that I couldn't forget his behavior to want to like him and see the changes happening. I also didn't much care for the athlete arc, that everyone was super hot and always having sex. I need balance in my characters, and this felt like non-reality filled with people I'd HATE in real life and not want to be around. If the characters were toned down a bit, I could've really gotten into it more. Writing wasn't the issue, so perhaps just a poor match for my reading style. I can see why others would really enjoy it.

I love time loop stories. I really do. They’re tricky though, because the formula can start to feel the same every time, which feels ironic given the genre.

This one doesn’t do anything completely new, but the characters were compelling enough that I stayed entertained and ended up finishing it in a day.

I will say, I know we’re not really meant to like the main character since he’s the one who needs to right the wrongs, but there was still something a bit too ick about him for me. And the way everyone constantly picks on him because he’s such a dick gets to be a lot. I couldn’t tell if it felt repetitive because of the writing or simply because that’s the nature of a time loop and living the same moments over and over. Either way, the constant retaliation started to feel a bit grinding, and I think that’s what knocked it down a star for me.

I was also hoping for something a little more different. Something that made this time loop stand out. It was fine, but I wanted at least a few wow moments.

That said, it’s still a cute story with well thought out characters and a sweet little love story with a theme of family at its core.

Thank you so much to @risingactionpublishingco for the advanced copy to review!

Listen, I love @kccarmichael_’s writing. I read Boystown Heartbreakers earlier this year (the audio was LOVELY) and I just finished another book The Kennedy Rule. Needless to say, I was SUPER excited to get this one.

At first, you think Sergio is this jerk who just hits and quits while he works and does not much else. As you peel the layers back on this story, there’s genuine depth and fully fleshed out backstory that truly endears you to him right away. You can’t help but root for him to succeed!

Ya girl is a sap for a time loop. Guy who wants to be better? Falling in love with his love interest more every day? Feeling like he was finally figuring it out? Ughhh the romance of it all. I just love love and this story was a perfect example of when a time loop works.

Jeremy, my sweet, sweet boy. Sergio at first maybe didn’t deserve him but by the end, Sergio was worshipping the ground Jeremy skated on.

This was a lighthearted, genuinely sweet and lovely romance. I had a blast reading it and could not put it down. I wasn’t able to highlight for some reason but I SWOOOOOOONED hard over some of the dialogue in this.

Fully recommend!

Sergio is a world renowned photographer and starts off the book as an A+ douche bag. He heads off with his ‘brother’ to spend the holidays with their other ‘brother’. Unbeknownst to Sergio one of his previous flirtations, Jeremy is there as he lives in a cabin on the property.

It becomes evident to Sergio people are less than enamoured with him and cue the time loop, it’s Groundhog Day again, again and again. I have to say I don’t mind the idea of the time loop and I understand the shortening chapters and dialogue to speed up each repeated loop, but it did get old for me way before it was done.

I appreciated Sergio’s opportunity to make good but I couldn’t feel the loops allowed the relationship between him and Jeremy to grow sufficiently to feel confident in any way there would be a HEA. I also felt an aspect of Jeremy’s life wasn’t dealt with sufficient clarity.

Thank you to the publisher for approving me to read this book.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC in exchange for an honest review. 300 New Year’s Eves is a fun and heartfelt twist on the Groundhog Day concept, following Sergio as he relives New Year’s Eve over and over again until he learns to be less self-involved and open himself up to love. Watching his gradual growth and self-reflection throughout the endless loop was engaging, and the premise made for an entertaining mix of humor and heart. However, I wanted more development in the connection between Sergio and Jeremy. They weren’t exactly exes, more like two people who almost had something real before Sergio pulled away when Jeremy wanted to take things slower. Because of that history, their reunion could have been really moving, but it felt underdeveloped. With the story centered on a single repeating night, we don’t get enough flashbacks or emotional context to truly feel the weight of their “second chance.” Jeremy’s forgiveness and renewed affection for Sergio also come a bit too easily, especially compared to Sergio’s 300 tries to get it right. Overall, this was an enjoyable read with a clever premise and a lot of heart, but I wished for a deeper emotional foundation to make the romance feel more earned.

This was a cute take on Groundhogs Day that didn't shy away from the fact that it was a take on Groundhogs Day.

As bisexual disaster, Sergio finds himself reliving New Years Eve over and over until he can not only make things right with a past romance but also his brother and is sister in law, you throw in a wintery location and a dash of figure skating and you've got yourself a sweet little romcom.

I appreciate Sergio and Jeremy having a bit of prior chemistry before getting reacquainted on NYE. It helped make Jeremy falling for Sergio in one day seem much more believable and overall less icky than if they had just met. I also like that this was not just a romance, but Sergio was also tasked with making things right with his family and figuring out things about himself to improve upon. It wasn't all just about getting into Jeremy's pants.

The author did a great job of showing the passage of the same day over and over without being horribly repetitive for the reader. It was great to see Sergio's character growth. He was also a very charming and funny character. I will say, I'm not a kid person and personally found Henry a tad irritating (sorry!). It was also brought up that Sergio feels responsible for his parent's death but overall that seemed kind of glossed over.

Overall this was a fast, fun read. A nice mix of romance and character growth. Prefect to read around the holidays!

**I received a free ARC of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

Carmichael creates a fresh spin on time loops just in time for a new Winter Olympics cycle. Fans of second-chance-at-romance novels will root for Sergio as he repairs the rifts in his life so he can finally earn the love of the man who slips through his fingers every night when the clock strikes midnight.

I'll admit, I wasn't sure how Carmichael was going to make me like Sergio at first, but she did a great job of softening him layer by layer as he learned the valuable lessons about all of his relationships.

I'd first like to thank NetGalley and the publisher (Rising Action Publishing) for the chance to read this ARC. Now, on to the review.

I liked this book. A lot.

So, considering the fact that I really hate when part of a story happens and only one person remembers it, it's probably a shock that I love time loop stories. But for me, there's just something about them - whether it's the practically forced character development, getting to see how tiny changes steamroll a whole day, building on success and mistakes of the past, or knowing that there are no repercussions until the end of the time loop, I don't know, but I love them.

I'm pretty sure this is the first time I've read a time loop in original fiction, but I have spent many days reading time loop fan fiction. And this book hits pretty much every note that it needs to.

You have the character that needs some course correction, but is still genuinely likable - which is a hard line to straddle for me. It's difficult to have someone that needs to learn something, something that they can only learn by reliving the same day, without making them feel irredeemable at the start. Even at the beginning, Sergio was likable. Or, at least, not unlikable.

And then, for me, what was super nice is that the loop is not all about the romance. Sergio catches on pretty quickly to what to do and not do around Jeremy and there was still a lot of time loop to go through with Adrien (brother) and Rose (best friend's wife). Which I really appreciate: other relationships are given gravity here. It's not just about romance, this book, ultimately, is about family, families by blood and choice and I really love it for that.

The only thing that really didn't work out great for me with this book was the occasional reminders that Sergio and Jeremy are not on a level playing field. That's kind of the danger of nearly all time loops with romance, but this book does actually bring up the fact that Jeremy is not remembering the kisses and conversations that he and Sergio have already had. I don't love it (prefer the ones that both are stuck in the time loop and have to figure it out together) but it's a common part and parcel to the time loop romances.

In short, this is a fun, lighthearted book about found family and being a better person. It's fast and snappy, an easy read which is exactly what I was looking for.

My Thoughts:
300 New Year’s Eves was a proper treat. I’m a complete pushover for a time loop, and this one had me hooked. Jeremy and Sergio keep reliving the same New Year’s Eve, and honestly, half the fun is watching them make an absolute mess of things before they finally start getting it right. It never feels repetitive, though and each loop adds a little twist or new bit of drama, so you’re never bored.

The whole gang they’re stuck with adds loads of charm too. It’s got that classic “holiday chaos but make it cosy” energy: everyone slightly stressed, slightly overexcited, and slightly nosy, but in a way that makes you want to be there with them. Jeremy and Sergio’s chemistry builds slowly, but once it gets going, you’re fully invested and silently cheering every time they don’t screw it up (again).

In short, it’s sweet, funny, and just the right amount of magical nonsense. Perfect if you’re into character-driven romances, festive vibes, or watching two men try their best not to be disasters. Would definitely recommend.

NetGalley ARC. Sweet and breezy read. It's Groundhog Day on skis and ice skates as obnoxious Sergio finds himself living New Year's Eve over and over until he can make things right with the people he loves, including the man he let get away four years ago. It's exactly what you want from a book like this: objectionable protagonist learns to apologize to and appreciate the people around him. Sergio doesn't go wild changing huge things every day, but I thought the author did a good job of showing the repetitive days without making things too monotonous.

I also liked that it side-stepped some of the moral ickiness of some time travel romances by having Sergio and Jeremy already have feelings for each other before the day repeats. Sergio makes an inconsiderate comment to Jeremy the night before the repeats start, so the plot is more about him finding a way to make a believable apology for that so they can get back to the budding romance they already had, not him manipulating Jeremy into falling in love with him by incorporating what he learns on each repeat. It's a similar dynamic with the other loved ones in the book.

Cute read and interested to read more by this author!

Thank you to Rising Action Publishing Co. and NetGalley for this E- ARC. All opinions are my own!

300 new years was a solid 3.5 star read. In the story we have an MC Sergio who is a shameless playboy and he gets himself stuck in a time loop on New Year’s Eve. He has to get the day right and see if he can move on- the question is can he?

I think the book had an interesting premise, time loops have always been a personal favorite of mine. But this one seemed a little jerky in the execution and I couldn’t really connect with Sergio’s character growth well. Sometimes his realizations felt left field for me. That being said it was still interesting to see how he puzzled together his life and what he learned.

I think the entire cast of characters were interesting and I liked seeing how their days went with Sergio changing things. There were some cute moments in the book, but also a lot of repeating dialogue which make sense because of the time loops.

Overall I liked reading this book but still wished the time loops were executed a little differently. I think it’s an easy read and was able to finish it during vacation!

300 New Year’s Eves was a great awakening book where the MMC had to figure out how to be a better person in his personal life with his family.

Sergio is stuck in a time loop and has to re-live New Year’s Eve after he upsets his family and their guest, Jeremy, Sergio’s old fling from years before. Sergio realized he was stuck in a time loop and slowly but surely started recognizing the smaller changes he had to make in his life in order to not only be the man that Jeremy deserves but that his family can count on and love.

This was a great story and I loved the development of Sergio through it all. I loved the repetitiveness and how it was just enough to show he was stuck in the loop but didn’t feel like I was reading the whole book over again and again.

This was a 4 ⭐️ read for me and I look forward to reading more from the author. Thank you NetGalley and K.C Carmichael for this arc read and allowing me to share my opinions and review for this book!

You know who keeps me up at night? Players that seem to never learn their lessons. This fantastic time loop story really makes me grow to like Sergio and wish the same wake up call happens to all the players breaking hearts out there.

Carmichael wrote a unique love story that crosses the different type of love people have in their lives: familial, platonic, and romantic. How they each need to be handled and cared for to keep a healthy relationship. Sergio’s character growth is surrounded with exciting characters that makes you want to keep cheering for everyone. You’re always hoping to see what new unexpected twist is coming. Then to just be charmed by the sweetest romance.

Also as someone new to ice skating, I always think of Jeremy right before I step on the ice. But that’s spoilers 😉

If this wasn't an ARC I would have dnf'd it. I didn't have high expectations, I was expecting a middle of the road 3.5 star kinda romance, but oh man. It was not that. I know the main character is supposed to be unlikable intentionally in the beginning so that we can see his growth throughout the time loops, but Jesus Christ. You can not make me care about Sergio. He was so bad that when he was multiple months into things and convincing people he actually was changing as a person, and I as the reader could see that too, I was just sitting here like there's not a damn thing on this planet this man could do in one day to convince me he's not a self centered asshole. I also didn't care much for any other character besides Henry, which didn't help. The ending was fine, but I had a horrible time reading it.

This was delightful. This is the third book I have read by K.C. Carmichael, and I have enjoyed all of them.

This is a contemporary romance Groundhog day style story where Sergio relives New Years over and again, working on his relationships with all around him in an attempt to break the cycle.

While the concept of the book is repetition, and there were a few instances where it started to feel a bit slow, for the most part I was pleased with how it kept moving along. I also appreciated that the romantic love interest was only a small part of addressing the relationships in his life, as he needed to sort things out with his other relationships in his life. The focus on New Years also gave it a fun and festive holiday vibe without being focused on Christmas.

Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC

This was a fun time loop story. We watch Sergio wake up repeatedly on New Year’s Eve trying to figure out what he needs to do to break the time loop he is experiencing. Along the way, we watch Sergio’s character growth as he turns into a really likeable character – which he was definitely not at the beginning of the story. Sergio works every repeated day to mend his relationships with Jeremy (his one that got away), his brother Adrien, and his best friend’s wife Rose and learns a lot along the way.
I recommend this to readers looking for a fast-pace charming second chance romance with a found family element.

The premise grabbed me, but the execution was wanting. Sergio was exhausting the whole time, and while I don't mind an a-hole protagonist, this one didn't really feel like he was redeemed to me. The repetitiveness is to be expected for this kind of story, but it felt boring. I didn't connect to this story at all, none of the characters did anything for me. I did feel a bit bad for Sergio that none of his family or friends seemed to like him, and some of them were outright hostile and didn't seem to want him around.

Carmichael has taken Ground Day and made it better.

Throughout the novel it was beautiful to see how the main character growth and learned. The ending is earned in this one which I enjoyed.

Definitely worth reading through this one especially as we approach the holidays.

Sergio is a well-known photographer, and his brother/assistant are about to spend New Year’s Eve with an old friend up in Lake Placid. Sergio is known to play around with men and women alike and upon arriving in Lake Placid, he finds himself face to face with the person that almost made him want to finally date— Jeremy. After Sergio puts his foot in his mouth, he finds himself stuck in a time loop on New Year’s Eve. In order to get to the next day, he believes he needs to fix his relationship with Jeremy, but it might just take more than that.

A self-proclaimed lover of the time loop trope, this book satisfied everything I wanted. I loved the growth that Sergio showed throughout the book. You can really feel the chemistry the main characters have with each other. I’m not often one for a second chance romance, but the fact they never dated, and that it was more wrong place, wrong time but right person makes it easier to get through.

While this is a romance and the majority of the book focuses on such, Sergio does really work on his platonic relationships with both his brother and, especially, his best friend’s wife. The scenes between Sergio and Rose were definitely some of my favorite throughout the book.

As for the disability representation, I can’t really speak to how this was handled, but I believe it was handled very carefully.

I read this book in one sitting, so I think if someone is in the mood for a light romance to reach those end of the year goals as well as feel those holiday vibes, then this book is going to be perfect for you.
