Yeah, so I had a love/hate relationship with the first book, In The Shadows, and ultimately it pulled me in and I gave it five stars. Unfortunately, I can't say the same for this one. I had a love/hate relationship with it for sure, but I couldn't find that special something that held me and wouldn't let go.
We have the continuation of Sabastian, Death and Ella's story, now with twins involved. And the first part of the book was really good, getting us all caught up on their lives and struggles. I was pretty certain this was going to be another hit. I still love Sabastian/Death and Ella. I even still like all the other characters. However, by the middle of the book the pace slowed, the tension dulled, and then the repetition started to get annoying.
We still have pitch black scenes, both in and out of the bedroom. We still have masked men, serial killers, kidnapping (mutiple times), stalkers, murder, touch her and die vibes, and a lot of twisted things happening. And I wonder how I could get bored with all that going on? But I did. It felt muddled and jumbled, with untidy finishes to scenes and chapters, chaotic and repetitive banter and inner thoughts.
Finally, it ended on a cliffhanger, with no resolution going to happen for these characters, at least from their POV, from what I have learned. That is not really acceptable for me. I put in a lot of time reading this series to not get an ending.
Anyway, I will give it 2.75 stars for the good parts. I was hoping for a lot more.
