A Compelling New Mystery With A Little Bit Of Paranormal Assistance

Cassie Quinn is Back, working with Detective David Klein to figure out a case of murder, linked to one twenty years ago! This death mirrors that of mostly drug addicts, killed by a serial killer who disappeared and is thought to be dead...But here is the same way of killing, crushing the victim's legs then strangling them...Has the past returned?...
Cassie has interesting powers, able to feel and see ghostly beings...And although she is anxious about reuniting with her sister, she agrees to look at what the Detective has...With plenty of twists, horrific moments as Cassie feels the Killer deeply, and the arrival of her sister Laura to add to the confusion, this book is an interesting and fabulous read that will take you on an amazing journey!!

The second installment to Cassie Quinn series delivered on several fronts with a two-part contained murder/mystery, a deep exploration of a reestablishing a sibling relationship, and laying enough breadcrumbs to set anticipation for the next novel at an all time high. The writing continues to be witty and lyrical and truly opens up these characters to make them feel like close friends you want to keep spending time with and creates such complex villains that poetic justice is the only right solution.

The murder at the heart of this book opens up years old issues within the Savannah PD, especially involving David and how his career took shape. Whisper of Bones centers the emotional journey Cassie must go through as she reconnects with Laura and confronts some old deeply buried secrets of her own. The story does an excellent job of drawing the parallels between Cassie’s personal mystery surrounding the disappearance of her childhood friend and breaking down the barriers with her sister to finally embrace the feeling of offloading the burden of her abilities. In Whisper of Bones we learn much more about the strength of Cassie’s abilities and what she can actually tap into as the novel unfolds, of particular interest is just how long she has been able to communicate with the dead.

Perhaps the best example of this is how physically affected Cassie is by the ghosts of this case. In solving the first part of the cold case Cassie is almost crippled by intense emotions as the spirit of the deceased wants to keep her away. But when she breaks down that barrier and encourages the victims to take a stand, she gets the help she needs. Soon after she does the same in her own life with her sister.

“You’re my sister. I know you. You’re not crazy, and you have no reason to lie to me. Do I believe in psychics and mediums and all that? No. Or at least I didn’t. But I believe in you, so that kind of changes things, doesn’t it?” 👏😭

It’s messy and complicated and not 100% on the up and up, but Cassie and Laura’s journey across this book— from letting Laura into the case and her therapy session, to trusting her with all of her secrets— it was a truly great arc for both characters and I cannot wait to see the duo support each other as we move into the next mystery. (Which I am CERTAIN Laura had a lot to do with. Looking at you ghost boy 👀👀).

While I yelled at my Kindle for ending the book when it said I was only 88% done, I was thrilled to read the first few chapters of Book 3! Let’s go to Charlotte!!

2.0⭐️ Decent story, fascinating plot line and main characters. What I simply cannot abide, is another series by this author, that has a compelling sub-plot ending in a cliffhanger. Additionally, while reading, I kept thinking under what circumstances would police detectives bring in a civilian/consultant (even if she’s psychic snd sees ghosts) and her sibling to work on active murder cases, by allowing them to do the following: look through case files and potential evidentiary information, attend autopsies, participate in witness interrogations, view crime scenes, etc. Even consultants’ roles would be limited. I believe that it is common knowledge that in police handling of cases, the overriding concern is to preserve the integrity of evidence. Hence, I found this aspect of the story to be totally inconceivable. Nevertheless, I fell into the rhythm of the story, and I decided to just enjoy it—until the very last page and the abrupt ending. CLIFFHANGER.

In as much as I love the main character, Cassie, as well as several recurring characters, who knows which book in the series the mystery cliffhanger will be resolved? There are nine (9) books in the series so far. Therefore, will I feel that it was worth the wait for an incredible ending, or will the ending fall flat and be a complete disappointment and waste of my time? Well, I need not ponder that question any longer. My decision is made: I am not hanging around to find out.

If you enjoyed PATH OF BONES, you'll *LOVE* WHISPER OF BONES. Even if you were so-so on PATH OF BONES, this one is sure to hit the spot.

K.M. Rought and L.T. Ryan really hit their stride in this second novel in the Cassie Quinn series. The mystery is much tighter and has a better flow to it than the first. The interpersonal relationships are much more fleshed out and nuanced (not to mention tender and lifelike). And the pacing as well as the balance of work (police, not museum) to Cassie's personal life is perfect.

(As an aside: As one of K.M. Rought's close friends, I'm definitely biased here. But trust me when I say that this book is GOOD. And, also, if you too are a friend of K.M. Rought, you won't be able to *not* hear her voice and laugh every time Cassie opens her mouth or snorts. Or envision K.M. Rought's body language whenever Cassie shrugs or does something sassy. The connection between the two is a true delight.)

This is a fantastic second installment in the series and just a really solid paranormal-ish mystery all around. I can't wait for the third book, especially after those two cruel cliffhangers!

Warning Cliffhanger

This was easily a 5 star read, but reduced to 3 stars because it ended with a cliffhanger. Seems this otherwise competent author does not trust the readers enough to expect them to buy the next in the series without resorting to cliffhangers. Very, very disappointing.

I had a harder time getting into this book because I was frustrated with Cassie. I wanted her to be open and vulnerable with her sister, parents, and Jason. I wanted her to share her gift with them. She was so afraid of rejection that she actually rejected her family. It was frustrating. I felt a lot of relief when she finally told her sister.

A puzzling crime and some emotional entanglements

This is the second book in he series and I read the first one quite a while ago. It took me quite some time to put pieces back in place as there was no “refresher” as so many series have. I still don’t remember Cassie’s background or who Novak was or how she knows David or how Harris saved her…all things referenced here, some several times. It did not keep me from understanding what was happening in this book but I think I would have enjoyed the book more with that information fresh in my mind. So I guess I’m saying this book CAN stand alone but it’s probably better if it doesn’t. I will most likely go right on to book three after this so everything here is fresh in my mind.

In this book a dead body is found, killed in the same distinctive way that several others were killed 20 years ago. Harris is the first on the scene but she calls David as he worked those earlier cases when he was a rookie. David contacts Cassie to see if she can “see” anything that will help.

But Cassie has a lot going on. Her powers are unreliable, her sister is coming for a visit and it’s the first time she’s seen her in a very long time. She’s very nervous about the reunion. When she gets visits from a ghost involved in this case she calls David but her ghost is not the dead body they just found which amps up the mystery.

Here are a lot of twists and turns to the story and several surprises, both on the professional and personal sides for Cassie. The suspenseful parts are exciting and the personal parts are emotional.

This was a good one sitting read and I will be moving right on to book three now.

The story line and writing weren't bad, but didn't love this book.

I didn't realize this was the second book in a series of sèven books, and I didn't read the first book.

They kept referring to Cassie's bad experience with Novak, which obviously was from the first book, so I never found out what the situation was that happened with Novak.

Cassie has a gift and she can see spirits/ghosts. It was hard to believe that whenever she saw a ghost it would scare her and sometimes she would jump, and once she even dropped her coffee cup. Wasn't she used to it by now?

They went to a suspect's house, Marcus, and when they left, they took his dog. Then they wanted to give it up for adoption. That didn't seem cool. Did they take it cuz the dog was on a chain in the backyard? They didn't have any reason to believe Marcus was mistreating the dog. That didn't make much sense.

It was hard to believe that the police/Detective brought in Cassie (and her sister), who were civilians, to work on official police work. They were allowed to go through all the paperwork and info on several murder victims and suspects. And Cassie has been working with them for the past ten years. How is that legal?

Then, all of a sudden in Chapter 34, they jump to the conclusion of who the killer was, and they immediately go and track him down and find him just in time, because he took poison and was killing himself, and he died moments later.

I don't plan on reading more in this series.

She's Growing on Me
Following the first book in this series, I just wasn't sure how I felt about the main character, Cassie. On one hand, she's intelligent and friendly. But it seemed like she carried her victimhood from a previous traumatic event around with her like a small dog in a handbag. She's also quite reactionary, often acting without thought, which leads her into trouble. I just wasn't sure she was a good fit for my preferred style of reading. But i enjoyed the first story and wanted to give Cassie another chance.

I must admit, she's starting to grow on me. While she still tends to jump into things that are potentially harmful, she's getting better. She's also beginning to take a turn in the way she sees her traumatic past, and what it means for her future. This story was at least as engaging as the first book in the series, with a treacherous villain that could give any reader chills, and a well-paced plot.

So, I'm in for more. After all, Savannah's a great location for a good suspense read.

Whisper of Bones. L.T.Ryan. K.M. Rought

Cassie Quinn has a unique gift that I'm going to assume very few people could live with. She sees dead people. She can sense what they are experiencing but they are unable to talk to her. She can sense there fear, anger, hostility. She actually works in a museum but has established more then a working relationship with one very seasoned Savannah PD Homicide Detective. They have worked on cases together for a decade. They trust each other and have become good friends. They are working to solve a 20 year old cold case. A serial killer. Then the suspect is murdered in exactly the same fashion as his victims. This is an excellent read. Not surprisingly, the motive behind the killer and the suspect who killed him are easy to understand. Morality and legality usually don't overlap. My highest recommendation!!

Yes yes yes!!!
I can't speak highly enough. Like wowwwww y'all this book was superb!
I absolutely loved the humor in it too. I seriously laughed out loud a few times. So it was a serious book but then...it was light and humorous. I loved the bantering.
The ghost scene in the woods, reminded me of a scene in that TV show "Ghost Whisperer". Top notch. Maybe a little weird too but seriously it was good though.
No one was shot or hurt in this book which is kind of a relief because it seems like everyone gets hurt in a book haha.

This has to be one of my fav series. I will definitely read tbr next book and read this series again. I'm actually considering buying all the books and that speaks volumes. I don't waste money on something I hate.

After reading the first book in the series, I was a little bit concerned about its pacing. Path of bones started off very intriguing, but then I felt like it fell off towards the middle to end, so going into Whisper of Bones, I was a little hesitant. After finishing it, though, I’m pleasantly surprised. I felt like the pacing was more thought out. Compared to the first book, I actually liked the messages of this one better and the mystery was just intriguing enough, but not too complex to where it didn’t work in the amount of pages’ limit. I liked that this book delved deeper into Cassie’s relationship with her sister, and I felt like the introduced character Laura was a fun edition. It wasn’t the best mystery I’ve ever read, but i think it’s a fun, short little book to cozy up to.

Intriguing a bond interesting

This story is based on a 20 year old cold case that David was involved in solving. Unfortunately, lack of man power prevented its closure . Now 20 Yeats later a body has been found and the victim has been killed exactly the same way. Who and why after all these years.
Along with her friendly and not so friendly ghosts, Cassie's sister is coming for a visit. Their mother is sick and she'd like Cassie to join her even though it's been ten years.
This is a cliffhanger, can't wait to read book 3 in order to try and tie up the loose ends.
Great job. Thank you.

More than just a good story

More than just a great fiction writer, LT Ryan gives us a complex story that is a joy to read interspersed with moments of life wisdom. You'll notice that parsed throughout Ryan's writing are notes of depth that resonate with readers beyond the storyline. Life lessons, if you will. Joining the main character Cassie for her work with homicide detectives in Savanna is thoroughly gripping. The characters are brought to life with their quirks, internal struggles and great dialogue. Now, I'm heading into the store to buy the next book in the series. Happy reading!!

It is easy to like Cassie Quinn

Well! I just finished reading the second Cassie Quinn novel, all in one sitting. Cassie is a character that I would like to have as a friend, provided that she let me in on her secret. I can't wait for the next book in this series, which comes out in May. Perhaps , L T RYAN will finally give us Cassie's back story that he has been teasing us with.

I highly recommend this series if you want a fast read, and a very likeable heroine, Four Stars.I'm

More interesting to read then watch

I've seen both series of Ghost Whisper and Medium. There is a same but different aspect to these books in the way Cassie handles herself. Thought we're finding out that she may have had her ability to see ghosts for a long time, she's just finding it out since telling her sister about them. I really don't want to be one of those reviewers who give away the whole story I will say read the books. I liked reading them more then watching those TV series.

Intriguing book

I found it to have "just the right amount" of supernatural added to the story line that kept my interest throughout. Ryan and Rought had several different layers of story each with different characters which would confuse you. However, when you realize all of it centers around one central person, Cassie, I began to appreciate just how well this book was written.
Please don't shy away from the supernatural because this was very well written!
I'm looking forward to the next in this series.

Second book in this series and I tried it after feeling lack luster about the first book. I liked enough to try the second one but wow, I will not be continuing. As with the first book I had to suspend disbelief at every turn.

I also listened to this on audio. I think the narrator was going for a southern accent but it came off like Blanche Devereaux and sounded too mature for the women she was voicing. It was quite distracting. All in all, meh.

Loved it! Can't wait for the next one!

Great writing! This storyline is completely captivating and clever. Cassie has fantastic support for her scary talent, even tho she's not comfortable with it. There's lots of imagination, no graphic descriptions of violence or sex, just suspense and some humor to entertain and keep things interesting. Well done!

Entertaining

Ghost stories have always intrigued me. Cassie Quinn is a most exciting character. She not only sees ghosts but is also very intuitively guided to solve the mystery of their demise. Well written storyline with a few unexpected twists.

Looking forward to the next edition of the adventures of Cassie Quinn.

Good story

Another interesting paranormal murder mystery set in the South. This one had a lot of character development since Cassie's sister comes to visit right in the middle of a murder investigation and has to be let in on Cassie's secret. There are actually two mysteries, one that gets solved about halfway through the book and a second which goes until the end.

I am seriously loving this series and I really like the character of Cassie Quinn. The introduction of her sister was wonderful and much needed for Cassie. I like the fact that these books are currently focusing on solving cold cases. To me…something smells rotten in the Savannah Georgia Police Department.

I read this book twice as fast as the first! I couldn't put it down. And can't wait to get into the next one. Cassie is such a well developed character I feel as though I would like to be her friend. And the relationship with her sister is so real. These are the best characters I've read in a long time. Bravo!

Copycat?

A murder now shows the same cause of death and injuries as the victims of a serial killer from twenty years ago who was never caught. Could it be the same killer, back again after twenty years? A copycat? Callie is determined to help the police solve both cases, if she can.
