The sorcerous rebellion within the Kingdom of Cor Legear was only the beginning. Now half a million men and monsters are on their way to invade the kingdom in the name of the Empire.
All that stands in the way is the fortress of Cor Chatha.
The Rock of Battle.
Conor and his fellow Recon Marines have ridden ahead to scout the enemy and try to disrupt the advance. A recon platoon can only do so much against such an army, however.
And the army is the least of their concerns.
Monsters, sorcery, and ancient evils descend on the Rock, as the Marines and their allies prepare to make what might be their last stand.
Peter Nealen is a former Recon Marine, a veteran of Iraq and Afghanistan, and something of an aspiring renaissance man (emphasis on aspiring). He has long been a reader of history, philosophy, folklore, science fiction, and fantasy, and is the author of the American Praetorians series of paramilitary thrillers as well as the Jed Horn series of supernatural thrillers.
I was reading via audiobook. The narrator was fine, it's just the content. It wasn't written badly but was very, very wordy. The story had little happening in the way of action; the MC spent more time on his inner musings than anything. He reminded me of a Sam Spade or Phillip Marlowe. As a matter of fact, I think the writer would be very good at writing something in that genre, and the narrator's voice would compliment that genre.
These books were a little hard to get into, but once started I had to read the whole series. Anyone reading them will find a strength, not only physical, but spiritual as well. I enjoyed them because of those reasons, but also they were really good reads. The characters seem to come to life and draw you in.
I definitely enjoyed this series. It was sad to see some of our favorite characters pass though 😢. It was a pretty epically end and our characters definitely had honorable fights and endings. The dragon was pretty bad ass. The point about sacrificing yourself for someone else and the power it contains is a very good point.
I have read these books non-stop from one to the next. I loved the detail in setting scenes easily drawing a mental picture. Character development let me 'know' them. I have never been so 'in' to a story in all my years of reading. Thank you for a rousing story.
This series is fantastic. There are some editing/grammar errors but the story is excellent! The conclusion of this story arc is great - please write more!
The final battle; a fitting end to the series. Only remaining questions: where were the surviving marines a few years later? How did they integrate into this new (peaceful for the time being) land?
Brilliant, epic fantasy where modern warfare meets lord of the rings. Stretching across continents, the tale keeps you on for a rollicking ride of combat and sorcery
From the first, this series grabs you. From going through the mist to fighting dragons, it’s almost nonstop on the action. I couldn’t wait to get through each book.
I don’t normally read through an entire little series but I devoured the 6 Lost books. This books was intense and exciting. I don’t normally get emotional while reading books but this book had me in tears. I very much will read any future books in this series that Pete decides to release. If you’ve read this far then you will love this book.
