Again, this had an interesting premise and some solid world-building, but overall it just didn’t quite win me over. In hindsight, I’m not entirely sure what I was expecting after not really loving the first book, and this instalment didn’t change my mind much.

Malina’s character felt noticeably different at times, which made it harder to stay invested, and the pacing was uneven, with some chapters dragging while others raced ahead (I know I have said this before on the first books review also).

I also spent a fair amount of time trying to work out whether scenes were actually happening or if Malina was dreaming again — a few italics might’ve saved me some double takes and me audibly saying “what the f**k?” out loud. I’ll keep going with the series for my reading goal, but yeah - no high hopes.
