“I think it’s perfectly healthy to have a little fantasy involving your ex being run over at high speed.” (Iris)
While picking out a new suit for an upcoming TV appearance to promote her latest novel, celebrated mystery writer Iris MacKenzie has an unfortunate altercation with her ex-husband’s very pregnant new wife. When video footage of the incident goes viral, Iris’ career comes crashing down around her. Her publisher drops her, her literary agent drops her, and even her lawyer--who happens to be her own son--drops her.
As she is sifting through the ruins of her life, Iris gets a call from a woman working at a local rehabilitation facility claiming to represent a patient there who would very much like to speak with her. When Iris tries to pump the woman for information on who this mysterious patient could be, all the woman will tell her is that she believes Iris holds the key to the patient’s journey toward recovery.
Given Iris’ current emotional state of mind after the destruction of her career, she’s not inclined to grant this patient’s wish but for reasons even she herself can’t explain Iris agrees to pay this patient a visit. When she shows up at the facility the following day, the patient turns out to be the last person she ever expected to see.
What follows is a beautifully written story about love, loss, hope, redemption, and the indelible and unbreakable bonds that tie us together as we travel through this journey we call life.
This book kept me reading most of today. I finished it. I was hoping it was a continuance of the previous book in this series but it is a totally stand alone novel. It was very entertaining though. How Iris gets herself into such predicaments is beyond me. The end chapters of the book was one surprise after another! Totally worth reading.
This is the 3rd book in the Enlightenment series. They are all funny and outrageous! I love the way that everyone is connected in each story and are revealed after all the secrets come to light. Iris is a famous author whose life comes crashing down around her after an interview on television. Will her fans and family support her or will she end up with a new family?
I have read almost all of Joshua Berkov’s books . He is an exceptional writer and I’m really enjoyed all the books so much, they will make you laugh so hard and maybe even cry a little bit. The enlightenment series has been my favorite, but then again I’m still reading. I hope to read more from him. ! I highly recommend his books ! Give them a try , read and enjoy !
Iris is a well liked famous author, but when she meets her ex-husband's wife in public and looses her temper her life is in shambles. A must read to see if Iris can put her life back together. A very enjoyable read for sure.
I didn’t really like Iris but I was very pleased that she was enlightened enough later in the book to accept her daughter. Also, a lot of life changing events happened to have sent anyone into a tail spin but Iris handled it all surprisingly well. I think the little girl had a lot to do with that.
