Rate this book
From best-selling author Dr. Rebecca Sharp comes a brother's best friend, forced proximity romantic suspense....

Juliana Lozano has spent years living as the rebellious one of the family, a reputation she’s embraced. No one is surprised by her string of boyfriends that her brother would never approve. Then again, no one realizes all those flirtations aren’t what they seem.

When her little operation turns deadly, Juliana needs a place to hide and some lessons on how to protect herself.

Kane Rivera wants nothing more than to bury himself in his work. But as the new guy at Covington Security, when his teammate’s little sister shows up wanting self-defense training, he’s stuck entertaining her request.

It only takes one afternoon for Juliana to want to punch Kane for real. The older ex-DEA agent is buttoned-up, broody, and a borderline bully when it comes to keeping her safe. But better he think she’s brazen and bored than know the she’s fighting for her life.

No matter how he’d prefer to be ignorant, Kane can’t ignore the bold beauty or all the bad things that keep happening to her. Juliana’s hiding something, but if close proximity offers any clues, it’s that he’s the one who’s in trouble. Getting involved with Juliana isn’t an option—not with his past. She’s braved too much to have her heart crushed by the one man who was supposed to protect it.

Rebecca Sharp always loved a good love story. Let's face it, when you include a romance novel on your 8th grade summer reading list just to see if the teacher would notice (she didn't!), she was bound to give writing one of her own a go. There's really no corner of romance that she doesn't (or wouldn't) enjoy writing, except maybe aliens, much to her husband's dismay, so her large catalog features a little something for everyone. However, her love of shows like NCIS and Criminal Minds makes her favorite stories to write the ones with some kind of suspense and crime solving.

When she's not writing, she's at her office treating patients, and somewhere between those two things, you'll find her wandering the globe with her husband always searching for their next adventure.

I’m sad to say I’m am sorely disappointed in Dr. Sharp. Poor pretty little rich girl. All they see is pretty princess that uses anyone and everyone. The faker the better. Master manipulator. And Kane is so whiny surprised cheese didn’t pop out of my kindle. Love the series. Always excited and waiting for Dr Sharp’s book releases. Save you time and money, skip this one

Story felt flat. They mention the h’s beauty a thousand times, she’s compared to a kardashian. Is that supposed to equal beautiful? I guess so. Anyway, I didn’t feel connected to the story at all.

3.5 starts from me

Juliana was a huge disappointment to me. I can not stand any heroine who puts herself in dangerous positions with no lethal training. Kane was ok, but the whole “no relationship” mantra became repetitive. The book is steamy and the plot is fast paced so those were pluses in my book. This was not my favorite in the series and a bit of a let down as the end of the series.

Kane has joined Covington Security after being undercover in the carter for years. He is convinced that he needs to keep his distance because he has nothing to offer anyone or ends up hurting/losing anyone that gets close to him. Juliana is Dante’s ( book 2-Bribed) and Carina’s ( book 4-Burned) sister. She thinks she doesn’t have as much to offer as her siblings so she relies on her looks to serve some vigilanty justice. Kane ans Juliana’s paths cross quite a few times and the tension builds. And builds.

I love getting to see characters from past stories because it makes me giddy but it is not necessary to read any of the previous books. I loved how strong Juliana was in this book. I loved that she knew what her best asset was (according to her) and used that to right the wrongs of the world. I loved that Kane saw Juliana for how brave she was. Kane and his pleasure-Dom ways make for added spice. I wish we had more 🥵

The extended epilogue! Was absolute perfection. Dr. Rebecca Sharp is a queen when it comes to character crossovers with her books and series. I can’t need to read Reynolds Protrctive Group and can’t wait for the Vigilante series.

I love series books, especially when some of my favorite characters come back and I get a glimpse of new characters. This book was the perfect mix of both, while allowing Kane and Juliana to be themselves. The whole series has been excellent, and this is no exception!.

Oh how I will miss the Covington Crew, but what a way to end this series!

Age gap ✔️
Brothers best friend ✔️
Enemies to lovers ✔️
Romantic suspense ✔️

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Spice level: 🌶️🌶️
Angst level: 💔💔

Juliana is the wild child sister of Covington Security member Dante (book 2 in the series). She has always been known as the reckless one who uses her looks to get what she wants. When in reality she is working with a vigilante crew to get justice on those who deserve it. But that comes with a price when she tries to take down the son of a powerful man and it backfires.

Kane is the newest member at Covington and after being undercover with the DEA, he is closed off and not there to make friends. Things have happened in his past that have changed him. But now in present day, his past is catching up with him and he’s now finding himself in danger, right along with Juliana.

The chemistry between these two was off the charts. You could tell how much they were holding back their feelings, but when they finally decided to go for it, you just know that it was meant to be. Juliana’s character was my favorite, along with Rob (who I know we will see soon enough in the new MC series).

I am so sad that this series is ending as this was a favorite of mine! Looking forward to what Rebecca writes next!

Beauty and her Beast

Wow! I’m not sure I even have the words to review this the way I feel!

This book hit the atomic spice! It was full of steamy tension from the get go and that burn just made each encounter fire! Daddy Kane and all his broody hotness and Juliana with all the s3x appeal knowing what makes a man tick. These scenes were HOT! I loved the emotions and the intensity of their relationship. Each having secrets and pain in their own way and needing each other to be the missing piece of the life they felt they didn’t deserve. Juliana tries to hide her secrets behind a fake socialite persona, while Kane wants to wallow in despair for the actions in his past. There is grief, trust, pain, mystery, action, and love in this book and I loved every second of it!

The epilogues were warm and fuzzy and tied up the series perfectly. This was one of the best books to end a series, although I’m super sad to see it end. I’m hoping to see some cameos of the guys in the Vigilantes series!.

Braved by Dr. Rebecca Sharp is Book 9 of Covington Security Series. This is the story of Kane Rivera and Juliana Lozano. This is a interconnecting series so it does help to read the previous books but I did think it could be a standalone book. Kane is a part of the Covington Security but of late has been feeling guilt for something that had happened. Juliana is the sister of Dante and thought to be a pretty social butterfly with no real job. But she has a dangerous hidden job that now has her having to lay low so she goes home to Covington Security where her brother works at. Kane is the one tasked to look after her. Enjoyed this book and I recommend Dr. Sharp's writing.

I can’t believe it’s over!! I’m so glad that these characters make appearances in other series, because I wasn’t ready to say goodbye. Even after 9 books I still could read them forever. She created this world that I loved to visit.
It was the perfect wrapping of a series and such a good lead in your the next series. Which you don’t have to read this before or anything but it does make it more fun.
Kane and Juliana could not have been more perfect. They kind of rounded out the group and brought everything together.

DNF too much immaturity and manhandling

Couldn’t get past the characterization of the two leads. One is a 29 year-old virgin wanna-be vigilante spy who uses her “kardashian” looks to lure men in but doesn’t actually know how to physically defend herself. The other is a 39 year-old guy version of the “i’m not like other girls” girl who has a huge chip on his shoulder and is somehow immune but also not immune to the h’s sexual prowess. I will admit that the blurb did capture my interest but the actual story I quickly found to be corny and not well thought out. Genuinely baffled at the high praise this is getting.

It’s posted a few times throughout the comment section, but since there’s so many comments I feel the need to repeat it. Dr. Rebecca Sharp stalked and plagiarized her sister in law, AK Evans. Here’s where you can read the post by AK Evans complete with screenshots: https://www.authorakevans.com/decay-s...
Personally, I have not read books by either author, but I definitely won’t read Dr. Rebecca Sharp now.

If you're tired of the quickie reads and the fast forward HEA stories and really need a well written and engaging story, with decent a decent page count, look no further.

"... life is the risk. Love is the constant."

Braved has great main characters in broody Kane and sassy Juliana, a suspenseful and action packed plot and as usual, some scorching hot chemistry. There are moments that are hot and intense, sweet and romantic and gut wrenching and angsty.

She was everything. Every want. Every need. Every promise. Every hope. Every piece of a life I didn't deserve to have.

Juliana grew up knowing that people see her beauty and instantly categorize her as pretty but without substance. She's been looking to prove herself as more then just eye candy. When she's approached to help a vigilante group catch bad men, Juliana finally feels like she has a chance to really make a difference. But catching bad men is a dangerous career choice and when her latest mission, targeting a rich well connected man suspected of murdering his fiancé goes haywire, Juliana finds herself having to lay low until the heat on her settles.

It's just her luck that the one guy to ever really see her, is also the one guy determined to ferret out the truth, something she can't risk or it will jeopardize her whole mission.

Kane is a former undercover special agent who is all too familiar with the red flags of leading a double life and Juliana is setting off all kinds of internal alarms. She's definitely a troublemaker but he sees there's something more to her then what she shows everyone else. Behind her flirty smiles and sassy come-ons, Juliana is smart, determined and hiding something.

When both their pasts come hunting for them, it's a battle of wills between who will come out on top.

"You fought for me. When I was cold. When I was cruel. Nothing stopped you."
Unstoppable. That was my woman.

This is part of a series but can be read as a standalone. I didn't have any trouble following along with side characters although will admit I'm interested in readings Carina and Rocco's story next!

We got to know Kane a little bit in book 8. Knowing that he spent 7 years undercover to reach 2nd in command, I would expect a lot from him. He didn’t impress me toward the end of book 8 leaving Tenille alone with the big bad, then getting injured.

I like how he starts out, Mr Lone Wolf with everything tapped down. Makes sense with his history. In this book he can see “through” Juliana and keeps pushing her to spill the secrets he knows she’s keeping. It gets to be a bit much for the first third or so of the book.

Juliana is also doing dangerous things. Not sure how an influencer with millions of followers can be undercover as bait, but let’s go along with it. She puts on a pretty good front, fooling friends & family except for Kane. She pushes him back on why he keeps everything so closed. It’s actually a good thing for him as time goes on.

Well soon, Kane is in danger from his past as an undercover agent. Yep, it’s another cartel big bad. Juliana is in danger from Paul, the bad guy she was working on while being bait undercover. They’re both hiding out with the new series regulars for the Vigilantes. They’ve been falling for each other but finally get to the next step. Kane, being the guy, wants to protect Juliana by taking out Paul.

Spoilers… And some things that bug me.

OK so it’s back to the sex club in San Francisco. Kane rents a room so he can lure in Paul to kill him. Juliana, not knowing what Kane has planned, also goes to the club to trap Paul. Kane sees Juliana and sweeps her into the room before Paul sees her. They get hot & heavy and finally break barriers so they can become the next Covington couple. Instead of taking care of Paul first…no, they have to have lots of sex. Paul is IN THE club! He can be getting into trouble, getting away…whatever. No, this 7-year undercover guy along with Juliana who is also after Paul…gives Paul a big window to get away. If Kane did this while undercover he wouldn’t have made it for 7 years and would be dead.

Things fall together a little too neatly and the bad guys are beaten. Nice epilogue then bonus epilogue to see all of the Covington couples and kids together. The final book has warm feelings at the end but the series kind of ends on a whimper.

There are a few little things the bother me. Juliana being a virgin at 29, doing what she does. I think not.

Dante’s Lenni is back to filming the next season for her thinly veiled Game of Thrones series. For budgets and especially time even a big name series would not film 1 season in Iceland and New Zealand, half way across the world from each other. Locations would be more geographically sensible like Iceland, Spain, Croatia etc. And just what are the names of Dante’s & Lenni’s twin boys anyway.

This was a light read that I skimmed a bit in the beginning with all of the questioning by Kane. It is nice how all of the Covington guys are like family but I did prefer the earlier books in the series better.

Kane and Juliana

I’m sad this series is coming to an end. Thankfully there’s still another Carmel Cove based series to come! I felt like this served as a bridge to the Vigilantes MC series. While they didn’t play a huge role, they were a part of this story.

I loved Juliana’s character. She was determined to be more than “the pretty one” in her family. As the middle sister she was the one who Dante called trouble and she definitely lived up to her name. But there was so much more to Juliana than she let anyone see. I don’t think any one person in her life got the whole Juliana until Kane.

Kane was the last man standing at Covington Security. And he was just fine with that. After being undercover for seven years, almost dying and feeling responsible for his brother in law’s death, he didn’t think he deserved any happiness in life. He was the lone wolf and wanted to stay that way. But after a chance encounter with Juliana, and then finding out she was Dante’s sister, he needs answers. Kane is the only one who sees through Juliana’s facade.

There was a lot of push and pull in this book. Kane and Juliana both have a lot of secrets. Kane is determined to uncover all Juliana’s truths but found himself lowering his own guard when it came time to push her away again. Kane had a lot of grief to shovel through and Juliana definitely helped him start living again, but it was a hard fought battle.

This was a good end to the series. I especially liked the bonus epilogue a few years after Kane and Juliana settled. I’m definitely going to miss the Covington Crew!

Tired of being the beautiful sister, Juliana Lozano secretly joins a vigilante group that gets revenge against powerful men that somehow seem to escape justice. Trying to trap the scion of a powerful family whose fiancée ‘mysteriously’ died three weeks ago, Juliana’s distracted after sharing a bolt of attraction with Kane Rivera when they touch. She instinctively knew he saw beyond her looks where others tend to stop but couldn’t dally, she was working.

Kane dismisses Juliana when she goes to a private area in the sex club with a man he deemed unworthy. The take-down didn’t go according to plan, Juliana’s prey was drugged but he attacked before it took effect or her team could help. Juliana’s boss takes her to her brother’s Carmel MC HQ to heal and hide until their prey is arrested. Juliana’s family is close and she has siblings Carmel, she has to make contact when her prey is still free a week later.

Healed enough to spend time with her sister, Juliana invents a reason to stay at her brother’s house while he’s out of the country. Visiting the Covington office, the first face Juliana sees is Kane. Though he doesn’t call Juliana on her tales or admit he has an inkling on her bruises and surprise visit, Kane watches Juliana juggle personalities to fool casual observers. Since Juliana’s excuse involved training, she and Kane spend time together battle on the mat and off as he’s on the lookout for holes in the tale she’s spun specifically for Kane and danger rears it powerful head.

I have to start by saying that Rebecca is one of my favorite authors. I love just about everything she writes. I also love the Covington Security series in particular. But this finale to the series was not my most favorite. Though that’s like saying I don’t like vanilla ice cream as much as chocolate ice cream. It’s still ice cream and I will absolutely still eat it! This book is still a Rebecca book and I will absolutely still read and enjoy it. It just isn’t chocolate (aka Dex or Rocco’s stories *fans myself*). Kane isn’t well known to us. He wasn’t really a player in any of the cross over series or present at the beginning of the Covington series. So I’m not super invested in seeing how his story plays out. But I’m just being super nit picky at this point. Rebecca’s writing is heart wrenching and I absolutely love reading her writing. This particular story also focuses quite a bit on setting up her next series, The Vigilantes. Which I am ok with. I love they way she criss crosses characters between series so I’m good with the set up and the further introduction of Rob who will likely have their own story in the next series.

Overall, a lovely story as always. I just wasn’t 100% invested in Kane and Juliana.

It’s been too long since I last read a book from the Covington Security series and I’d kinda forgotten just how much I enjoy these books!!

I have to admit that I’ve not read all of the books yet but even though I’ve missed a couple of the instalments it didn’t detract from my enjoyment of the read.

I thought Kane & Juliana were well matched. Both have secrets, both have avoided relationships due to their work/past but when they initially see each other they have a palpable attraction that neither of them could deny.

My heart hurt a little for Kane and what he’d lost (I understood his thought process, I just didn’t quite agree with it!). Juliana has a whole facade that she shows to family and friends and a perceived reputation as trouble where her big brother is concerned and it was sorta sad that she had to hide so much of who she was from those closest to her.

I liked the storyline, the intrigue and action. Rebecca writes really good ‘bad guys’ and there were 2 in Braved that were seriously detestable.

For me this is a solid 4.5* - it didn’t hit 5* for me as Juliana’s flip flopping thoughts and bloody mindedness and both their dodgy communication drove me a tad crazy at times.

Sad the series has ended but looking forward to finding out more about the guys at the garage and what they’re all about.

fantastic story and a smokin hot mlc

What the hell more could I ask for in a romance novel? Intrigue? Check! Exciting plot? Check! Male lead who makes my thighs quiver? Check check check! Oh and a strong smart brave witty female lead who doesn’t turn into a simpering pile of quivering pink flesh just because the love interest looks at her? CHECK!

I really appreciate female leads who are willing to explore their sexuality without fear, shame, or embarrassment and who are willing to speak their mind concerning their feelings. I hate emotionally stunted characters who squash down their feelings instead of just using their words to say what they want and be unwilling to compromise what they deserve because their love interested is emotionally stunted. Juliana told Kane what she wanted and how she felt. She is fierce and brave and doesn’t need to be rescued and the smoking hot Adonis she fell in love with respects her independence and autonomy enough to let her be who she needs to be and enjoy her work once they were able to let the other into each others worlds. I feel emotionally satisfied with this story and o’d like to have Kane Rivera’s illegitimate babies…holy crap he is hot.

Braved is the last book in the Covington Series (although can be read as a standalone - but trust me you will want to devour the whole series once you have finished this one)

It follows Kane, an ex DEA agent who spent seven years undercover with the Sinaloa cartel. He now works at Covington but is a lone wolf. Broken and alone from the things he has seen, he will not allow himself to get close to anyone. Juliana, Dante’s younger sister, whom he and the family see as wild, trouble and reckless. But they don't know the real her.

When Juliana's life is in danger, she has to hide it from everyone, but Kane sees though her lies.

This is an amazing story with twists, turns, mild peril, murder, truth and lies. Kane and Juliana are perfect for eachother, two people who blame themselves for things that were out of thier control. This story is captivating, thrilling and super steamy. Kane and Juliana heat up the page from thier first interaction to the last page.

So enjoyable, ties the whole series up, just a great read.

An engaging, well-written story with compelling characters and a suspenseful storyline.

Juliana hides in plain sight as a social media influencer, but there is so much more to this young woman than just her beautiful and alluring exterior. Inside is a women with a steely backbone and the desire to make a difference in the world. With a super overprotective older brother (Dante), she has to be careful to distract him with her clubbing and social media persona.

Kane is a loner after the pain and loss from his undercover career with the DEA. He sees through Juliana’s illusion and sees inconsistencies that raise questions, but he tries to stay away because he doesn’t feel he deserves happiness.

I really enjoyed the suspense and intrigue this storyline is filled with and the sexual tension between Kane and Juliana is off the charts, BUT the push/pull seems never ending. I love some angst and push/pull, but for nearly 95% of the story is just too much for me.

I always love seeing the Covington Security crew and their families.

What an exciting way to end the Covington Securities series. Juliana and Kane delivered all the suspense, passion and drama. Juliana is the underestimated sibling in Dante’s family, showing everyone the party girl but she has a secret, she does undercover work which gives her purpose. When one of her missions doesn’t go as planned, she needs to hide which brings her to Covington Security. Her brother has to go out of town so he tasks Kane with teaching her self-defense. Kane is shattered after his DEA undercover mission fell apart. He is the lone wolf, wanting to work on cases while his body heals and be left alone. Juliana makes this very difficult with her flirty behavior which isn’t helped by the intense chemistry these two have. When Kane’s former life becomes a threat to Juliana, he will do whatever he has to, to protect her. Juliana doesn’t want a white knight, she wants a partner that will let her be part of the solution. Oh there are so many great things that happen in this story that kept me on the edge of my Kindle. Dive in for a fabulous escape with the crew from Covington Securities. I voluntarily read an ARC of this book and this is my honest review.

Kane is the new guy at Covington security after years undercover as a DEA agent. When his cover is blown, killing his partner and leaving him near death, he feels dead inside. He can't risk getting close to anyone again and failing them. When his new teammate's little sister Juliana runs into him one night, he can't help but be attracted even though he knows she's hiding something. On the surface she's a rebellious party girl, and he tries keeping her at a distance... until she needs his help. She's gotten in too deep in her own vigilante undercover operation and now someone's after her.
This book is the last in the Covington security series. It can be read as a standalone but features all the characters from previous books. All of the books have complicated protective heroes and strong women that help them battle their own demons. I have so many favorite characters in this series and sneak peeks into what I hope is her next series!

Kane is a former DEA undercover agent who had infiltrated a dangerous cartel. He was removed from that position after he almost killed himself with a drug overdose.*

Juliana, although breathtakingly beautiful, has an inferiority complex when she compares herself to her brother and sisters. She feels no one sees the real her but only her good looking exterior. To combat this she is a member of a group of vigilantes who trick men into confessing their misdeeds and paying the price.

Kane and Juliana make eye contact at a bar where she is working to entrap a suspected murderer. It does not go well. Later, Kane is surprised at a visit by a co-worker's wife who turns out to be Juliana’s sister. They seem to keep encountering each other. He is more than reluctant to succumb to their mutual attraction. Juliana doesn’t give up easily.

Their lives are endangered by both the murder suspect and the cartel. Juliana takes what to me are stupid, unnecessary risks because she is bound and determined to prove herself. The only one she needs to impress is herself which may indicate deeper issues.

*Kane is adamant about not taking any prescribed pain medicine but makes do with OTC drugs. This to me indicates he may have been an addict. Yet he still drinks alcohol which I thought was prohibited to recovering addicts with the rationale that one vice leads to another. Just a thought.

Dr Rebecca Sharp’s 9th book in the Covington series is high octane fueled danger, carnal desire, and redemption. Kane and Juliana burn brighter than the sun, are magnets for intrigue, and are completely focused on each other. She’s living dangerously while appearing to be an empty headed flirt. He’s suffering in guilt for surviving and resisting his personal temptress.

This is so good! I loved the interactions between Kane and Juliana. Their personalities are similar: both brave, intelligent, and so good at hiding truth with lies. But they see each other! The dialogue is beyond hot, it conveys the torment they feel, and illustrates how strong they are. Dr Sharp’s storytelling is phenomenal and this couple is memorable.

Wow….I think I need anxiety meds after this one. I have loved everything I have read by this author. The love, danger, suspense, hot alpha males….Kane and Julianna are both so broken. They help each other heal. Kane works for Covington security. He is a former DEA undercover officer who worked with the cartel. Julianna works with a group to bring rapist, and abusers down. She is a beautiful woman who uses her job as a social media influencer as a cover. She wants to be known for more than her looks. They soon find their two worlds colliding. Can they continue to avoid each other or help each other heal. Such a fantastic read. Expect chemistry, age gap romance, brothers off limits friend, danger, suspense and off the charts steam. Such a roller coaster ride.

Juliana is a terrific strong character using her wild child facade to cover up her real life. Independent to a fault it must have really chaffed to have needed to ask for help from her super protective older brother's security firm when trouble came calling.

Kane, an ex DEA agent, is still hurting from his experiences under cover and as a result prefers to work alone. But when his boss's younger sister asks for self defence lessons he feels unable to say no. He quickly picks up that things are not what they seem.

Wonderful tension between these two and the hurt and secrets that initially keep them from realising their strong instant attraction.

A truly fantastic finale to this series. I can't wait for the next series.

This was quiet the yo-yo of books as these characters pulled and pushed each other as they fought to find their HEA. Kane torturing himself for everything he has seen and done whilst undercover, including losing his friend - Juliana is hiding her true self even from those who love her most, behind a façade. This story keeps you on your toes throughout, with twists and turns, murder, tension, steam, heat, secrets and working through their own issues and trauma. Kane and Juliana are perfect for each other, two people who blame themselves for things that were out of their control. Another great read from Rebecca Sharp, and whilst sad to see this series end, cannot wait for more (and sure we will have these guys cameo in future series, how can we not?).

First let me say I'm so sad that we are at the end of The Covington Security series. So let me dive in! Juliana is not what she seems, at first you get the impression she is hard/carless/maybe even manipulative. But not our girl. To her core she is sweet and sensitive and just wants to be loved for who she is, not how she looks. Kane is Alpha male grumpy but for good reasons. He had to be those way to keep others safe or so he thinks until Juliana. This story is about self discovery, truth and lies, love and passion and wanting to find your soulmate who will accept everything you are flws included! Definitely an amazing end to this fantastic series.
