Live for today. Prepare for tomorrow.

The unknown reaches of the galaxy still offer danger for Sergeant Major Reverent Pelletier and his small group of Marines and karnans. They must be ready to protect their own.

But back in human space, war has reared its ugly head once again. Pax Naxli is done, and the central government pays little attention to the Exiled Fleet. On their own now, they can’t count on help when the inevitable arrives.

Without any outside support and unable to return home, Rev, Tomiko, and the rest must figure out how to survive.

Rev is a Marine, born and bred to fight and survive, to defend those who cannot defend themselves. But one way or another, his journey is coming to an end.

great series!!

This has been a great series! I’ve enjoyed the wonderful characters very much. Their stories, relationships, struggles, losses, heartbreak, yet such perseverance, strength, loyalty, honor, kindness, love and a brotherhood that I think only our fighting military can really relate and resonate with.. I think we all think or say or hope we could do, be, fulfill such big shoes. It’s humbling. The storyline also resonates in the reality of our armed forces going abroad to either help keep our own country safe or to help protect and save those who need it, yet our own history in the USA has its black marks, it’s shame for how they’ve treated these brave men and women upon return. I can’t imagine the feeling, the confusion and betrayal that must have been felt, much as our characters in this series. But no matter what, they maintained their brotherhood, their oaths to each other and to protect others—that do or die attitude— always there. It makes me want to say thank you to all our military and our allies.
This has been an amazing read. I’m sorry the series is over. It would have been fun to see things as they’d be years down the road, especially with the new alien species introduced but I couldn’t have asked for a better ending. It was truly well done.
If you love great story with: ilitary-space action& ground pounders on different planets and with different species then you’ll like this series. There’s plenty of action, thrill, mystery, surprises, all that kind of stuff but it’s the detailed characters, their growth throughout the series and the deep relationships between them. It’s more than friendship, it’s family. You’ll love it!!

Ps- to the authors: Thank you so much for the Summary or “Where we left off “ section at the beginning of the books. It’s so great to have these to refresh our minds about what had happened in general terms and where our characters left off. It’s so nice to begin a new book (after waiting for its release with that time span in-between) with those details, that Summary, then being able to dive right in and not be scrunching your forehead trying to remember exactly what was happening to who in that last book. This makes it easier and more pleasant reading. Thank you! & Kudos for a great series!!

Great series!

What a well-thought-out and well-researched saga, with plenty of action and humanity...it touches on so many human issues, on so many levels. The authors understand human nature, both its good and bad aspects, as well as politics, hierarchy, military loyalty,
as well as bonds forged within families and friendships. To be able to keep track of all of the
moving elements of the narrative and the galaxy (no less!) is a feat in of itself.
One small thing, though, for the sake of perfection: the series could use another proofread, as there were a few consistent minor grammatical mistakes—nothing awful, but 'twould be nice to see them gone.
I read these novels over a couple of weeks, marathon-style and loved the main characters, as well as the historical (and not so historical) references to weaponry (both current and future), scientific developments, military strategy and practices, protocol and technologies. Really well done. My hat's off to you both!

The final part of the series?

This is probably the last book in the series. While it does leave some questions unanswered it does provide a satisfactory ending.
War rages back 'home' leading to orders to kill all the mad dogs on board, but this is ignored. The search for threats continue as well as planets that are colonizable - the Genesians are looking for a new home. Punch is now in his own body which they both have to get used to. The aliens they met that almost wiped them out have been nicknamed the BG's - bad guys - and an aspect of them will appear again. The 'rot' is also progressing in Rev and also Randigold....
While not as action packed as many of the previous books there is still some conflict, suspense, intrigue, and surprises, though the ending is fairly obvious once certain things become clear...
A pleasing conclusion to the Sentenced to War saga.

A totally feel good space series!

I slammed through this entire series in my hospital bed recovering from a stroke! The doctors and nurses were intrigued and curious about what had captured my attention so dramatically and entirely. I began to tell the story of Rev Pelletier and his Union Marine Corps to whomever would listen. It was good therapy for me as well since my speech needed rehab and my left cerebral cortex needed the intellectual stimulation. Thank you J.N. Chaney and Jonathan Brazee for this incredible series of novels about my military and my Navy and my Marine friends!

An Amazing read.

I love what & whom Rev has become. He & Miko have a beautiful family with a bunch of pretty cool neighbors too. With Kanters, & Po, the the crew of the Galaxy Explorer have made quite a name. A splash into a new life.

But many questions remain unanswered (in my mind at least) & only the Authors know if they'll spin a new series or let this one end. If I get a vote; please mark me down for new series! Because I really don't want to say goodbye to these friends.

TY to the authors. (You made me cry, laugh & so much more)

Coming homr

From his youth to becoming a NCO and leader, and father even. This is a good story. Do I want it to stop? No, I do not. But what more can there be to this story, this universe? I could say that the PO could extend the humans life spand? And I guess that they might? But what is next in line for this story? No more wars? Maybe the left behind humans can catch up and find Haven? That is up to the writers? It would be nice to visit Haven in a year

The Exiled Fleet, such that it is now, is still continuing its mission and that is to find any threats to Earth and the Solar System along with identifying any potential habitable planets for humanity. They now have a secondary mission which has been to the forefront by the Genesians’ desire for a home world of their own. The Genesians have long been exiled from humanity because of their cyborg appearance and their previous attempt to conquer humanity. Sergeant Major Reverent (Rev) Pelletier, Perseus Union Marine Corps has no problem working with the Genesians since the fleet is now down to one ship. Half if occupied by the humans and their other half by the Genesians.

Rev is still coping with the “rot”, a degenerative disease caused by his medical modification in becoming a Integrated Bionic Hopological Unit (IBHU) Marine. He has a strengthen internal framework that helps support his IBHU weapon. These mods to his body have caused this detonation to slowly affect his body and he now looks to have only six months to maybe a year to live. He and one other IBHU Marine are experiencing the same thing except the other Marine’s rot might be progressing faster. Still, this has nothing to do with their present mission.

They have found a planet that the Genesians indicate they might want to stay upon. If they do so, they will have to grow their own food and build most of their infrastructure from natural resources in-order to sustain a colony. While this planet seems to be a good spot, it doesn’t have any native life, in fact, it doesn’t have any life at all. While there is evidence that the planet was once a thriving civilization, it’s now completely devoid of life. All the signs of the previous planetary occupants are now in crumpled ruins. It appears that something or someone attacked the planet and destroyed everything. Still, that doesn’t account for the fact that they can’t find any remains of anything, just burned out rubble. Sill, the Genesians say they want to stay so the starship *Galaxy Explorer* commits to stay for a month while the Genesians get settled.

Meanwhile, Rev has had the ships resources searching the system for any signs of something unusual. They know they have an enemy somewhere in this sector of the galaxy called the BGs (Bad Guys), but they don’t know who or what they are, except that they are very hostile. Rev knows they can’t survive another encounter with this race. So, sensors are on max and everything in the system is being scanned in-depth. They find an asteroid that is unusual in that it’s floating in space where it shouldn’t be. The sensors indicated that it seems to be hollow inside and no one knows why. So, Rev and his Marines are dispatched to check it out. What they find is not good. Rev wants the starship to leave this system immediately. He believes that the BGs have left this asteroid here as a kind of trip-wire which he and his Marines have triggered.

So, they leave this system quickly leaving behind a lot of equipment already on the ground since they don’t know how much time they have. The move to another system to wait. The Genesians want to go back to the planet if the BGs don’t show up. No one knows if they will. So, it’s a waiting game. Soon, they will send a scout ship back to the system to check things out.

Later, the *Galaxy Explorer* has moved on to another system. They find what appears to be a very nice, inviting planet that seems to be inhabited by two species, neither of which are very advanced. That is until one of the aliens break into the ships comms and asks the humans to meet with them on the planet. Now here’s where the real story starts. It looks like they have found a race of aliens that are extremely advanced but outwardly they don’t show that since there are so few of them. They even have advances in medical sciences that astound the crew of the Galaxy Explorer especially when that crew gets caught in a surprise attack by a second alien civilization on the planet. This second group were thought to have been tamed, but that wasn’t the case. They attacked the crew of the *Galaxy Explorer* without provocation and killed or injured a great many.

One of those killed was the Captain of the *Galaxy Explorer* so Rev is now almost in charge of everything. He’s got to get this war under control because this planet could be the type of planet that they could settle on and have a happy life. If only he wasn’t dying in a few more months.

This does appear to be the end of a very long and exciting series. I’ve enjoyed it tremendously. I think the ending was pretty good although it would be interesting to know what happened by in the Solar System. I hope Mr. Chaney and Mr. Brazee do more books together since they are very, very good writers on their own.

Great Collaboration

I am not typically a fan of novels written by more than one person. My experience has been that one of the authors was "better" than the other(s) and the result was a hodgepdgecof styles that seriously detracted from the story.

I am pleased to say, that with the collaboration between these two great novelists, Mr. Chaney and Mr. Brazee, there was no disparity of talent.

This novel read as though it had been written by a single author, and a great one at that.

The characters, both human and otherworldly, were well developed, very relatable and quite believeable. I loved them all.

The authors' combined experience and research into military protocols in addition to their prolific publication of past work resulted in a wonderful believeable saga complete with joy, tragedy, action, mayhem and yes death. After all you can't have warriors and war without death.

All said, this saga, all 15 books of it, has been a wonderful experience, and you will find that once you start, it's very difficult to put down.
There is a total shortage of "convenient stopping places" and even chapter endings are not always safe places to stop for the night.

So if you enjoy this genre and don't mind losing a little sleep, you absolutely MUST read this series!!

Hopeful

This is a great series I have been watching at times for new books to come out and missed the last 2. I got caught up in other series for awhile and would look for anything from this series. I imagine this might be the last of the series but hope not. I have enjoyed it so much that I want more of Rev and Miko. Whether it be the human navy or BGs or whoever comes someone will come. Read this series from book 1-15 you will not be disappointed. It is easy to read and hard to put down as i write this at 3 am having to finish the book tonight. You will get into the families both made in the military and home. You will feel loss and love too. You will come to feel as if they are family and will feel loss when some die. You will then be glad when some thought lost return. It has it all and the writing is good enough to keep you involved in the books. Careful it could be 3 am and you are writing a review on a book you just finished. We need Rev and Tomiko and all the others one more time. Maybe a skirmish with the not going to drop any names of the enemies or friends who could be involved on either side.

This series is my first entrance to the sci-fi novel book

Nd this is my first ever posting an review

I wished this series never end 😔, the outcome is unexpected I never thought rev will lost his family, and Bundy, for me the ending is good and i like it, but deep inside me I wish rev can became the hero of humanity and restore order to the chaos that happened, and offcourse i wish he find where his family at, rev father wanted to have grandchild's, very sad that his family not see rev and tomiko child, maybe they see rev from heaven.

Overall I loved itttt 100% recommended.

I will try to read author Other book but I feel like it wouldn't be the same like this novels.

This book as well as the other book preceding it have been a pleasure to read. From the main character being railroaded into the Service. To the last installment where he and his fellow brothers in arms(or sibs in steel) find peace and solace after having their home worlds turn their backs on them after sacrificing for their freedom. I have enjoyed the efforts of the Authors. The entire series showed the development of the characters as they grew in experience and learned the meaning of what it means to serve and lead people in a Combat environment as well as the results both physical and mental it places on a person.

An easy, comfortable ending to what started as a great series, but which lost its way about 3 books back. Post-Naxli the series feels lost and promising developments (bigotry amongst them) are never really expolred...

Characters make decisions and go against protocols (which as marines they should know better than to ignore) far too often latterly just to progress the story or create tension.
Certainly, has left the door open for further instalments but in general gives decent closure to the main characters.

This was an enjoyable read from the beginning to end. Followed Rev and the group from book one through to book 15. Glad to be able to stay with the series without a wait in between books. Seeing how things happened to Rev, Miko, and the rest from conscript/volunteers and from war to war. Seeing how they progress and go through the ranks and the changes they had to endure. Even with the lost of friends and family over the years.
They were able to make a place for themselves and a new group alien friends.

I like it when series have endings. This is the ending of this series.

In the first book, the protagonist gets drafted into the Marines for a minor offense. He fights in wars for humans against various enemies on various worlds, mostly enhanced after losing an arm. But humans aren't comfortable with enhanced humans and in the previous book, they are sent away from human space. Humans are still fighting wars as the ship containing various enhanced humans along with aliens is exploring.

Great Series

This was an enjoyable series from start to finish. Great story telling, plenty of action, excellent character development, and tons of foreshadowing kept interests up and the story moving forward. Maybe slightly predictable but only if you're paying attention and trust that the authors are going to pay everything off in the end, but that's said in the best way possible. This is why I still keep the kindle subscription active. Bravo.

It truly is a Brave New Dawn!!!

I just finished Brave New Dawn, I have read all 15 books and I can't tell you which one book was the best. Brave New Dawn has got to be on top of the list. To see Reverent from the very beginning to the end through his eyes and experiences was fantastic. I could hardly wait for the next book to come out just to see what new adventures I could see and be part of through this group of books.

This has been the most satisfying series to read, and I sincerely hope that while this book appears to be the last, it weren't. With a bit of creativity, the series could be continued, as opportunities are endless with the conditions the book puts its characters in.
On a side note - this series works make a wonderful tv series, if anyone would put sufficient effort into it like they did in the Expanse.

Best series I have read, consistent and well written

I usually read 3 books a week, this 15 book series took me only a month as I couldn't stop reading it. First, as a special forces vet, I can tell you they nailed the attitude/fear/drive we all had. Second, they kept all of the characters live Andy defined, which is hard to do in just one book much less a series. Finally, there was always an underlying story that drew you on. Not 5 stars, 10 stars.

Happy Ending

I have enjoyed this series, but the last installment felt strained and I was concerned about this one. I was wrong. This was the perfect ending to a long and excellent series. The ending was absolutely perfect. J. N. Chaney is a great story teller and I look forward to reading more from this author.

Great book

I hope this is the last book in this series. I say that with a heavy heart . I've grown to love the sentenced to war series . But I feel like this book was a good way to end the series without dragging it on. I hope you enjoy the book and series as much as I have. Happy reading

A decent ending

15 books and it looks like the end
No spoilers, other than to say, all a bit too perfect.
Thankfully a major improvement on book 14 which I was less than impressed with. This one was much more focused and provided with most.if not all the loose ends tied off

It’s been a journey it’s a pity that the story line finishes here as I thought that the series was written with imagination and flair at no point did the series lose its way keeping you guessing where it was going a cracking read 😎
