Gwenna Laithland was born and raised in Oklahoma, the only child of a military family with both parents serving in the United States Air Force. She has absolutely no idea what she is doing most of the time but is pretty confident she is doing an okay job. She still lives in Oklahoma with her husband, Jackson, their three children and two spoiled dogs.
Refreshing and engaging for the newer generation of parents and I'm sure millenials, but I can only speak to that of Gen Z to which I belong. This is the first parenting book I've completed because it was relatable, no nonsense, and felt like a friend was telling me to get my sh*t together while we sat drinking coffee together surrounded by the piles of laundry I've been putting off. Thank you, Gwenna, for writing this. This book and the Childproof podcast with you and Tori Phantom have been life changing.
Now, I’ll admit I’m not the target audience, seeing as I’m not a parent. But I enjoy Gwenna’s content, which has helped me parent myself a lot. So while I think this is an excellent and thorough book, I didn’t LOVE it as much as I thought because there was almost nothing I hadn’t learned from her Childproof podcast already. As a parenting book and for those who have yet to consume much of Gwenna’s content online, fabulous. For me personally, nothing super new for me to dig into.
Also my first audiobook, and she’s a GREAT narrator. So props for that!
Really enjoyed listening to Gwenna's book and her perspective on responsive parenting vs. gentle parenting. Even though I have no children of my own, it gave me great perspective as to how I speak to the third graders I teach and the way I approach behavior management within my classroom. If you are not familiar with Gwenna, you do have to be prepared for the use of some foul language.
Listened to the audiobook with my wife, as we both love her tiktoks and are planning on becoming parents soon. It was good and informative, while being funny and entertaining. There were a few points we disagreed with, but many more we did agree with and basically every chapter led to good conversation between us.
It feels weird to rate a parenting book but like, 5 stars. I hate parenting books and admittedly, I only read this one because I love Gwenna on TikTok. But this is the only parenting book that hasn’t made me feel like I’m not doing enough as a mother, so fuck yeah, 5 stars
Definitely one of the best parenting books I picked up in a while. You'll laugh, you'll cry and maybe a bit of both at once. I definitely recommend to any mom. 🖤

It advocates for responsive parenting while focusing on regulating the parent's emotions, setting healthy boundaries, and allowing children to safely fail.
I love all of Gwenna’s TikTok videos so when I heard she’s an author, I had to check it out - and her book is one of my favourite parenting books yet! Gwenna and her book are judgemental free, no jargon, and feels like you are listening to a friend - which made it all “stick.” While listening, I learned (and reminded myself) ways to handle my own emotions while handling my child’s to avoid a reactive spiral. It also took a heartfelt look at mom-guilt from a different perspective that made me laugh.
This book kept me engaged and I enjoyed every moment of it, it was truly refreshing to listen. ❤️ U Gwenna
