The story of the Garners in Texas continues with Maurine W. Liles' Kitty of Blossom Prairie. This book is a cute, short read for elementary age children about Kitty Garner, the aunt of John Nance "Cactus Jack" Garner IV. Cactus Jack was one of the Vice Presidents under Franklin Roosevelt and my husband's great-great grandfather. Around 1852, Kitty Garner helps to deliver an important message from Sam Houston and President Franklin Pierce to Chief John Ross of the Cherokee Nation and to the other civilized tribes. Kitty encounters legendary men, including William "Bigfoot" Wallace and dodges marauders along her way into Indian Territory.

This is a well written historical fiction story along the lines of Little House on the Prairie by Laura Ingalls Wilder. The story is based on real people and real events.
