When a mystery author takes on the romantic suspense genre, the potential for an amazing read is high!

Jeanie Munro is struggling to make ends meet after her husband Avery walked out on her and their kids for another woman. When she meets the dangerous looking but very sweet James "Rock" Mackenzie, Jeanie begins to long for the wildness of her youth again. But Rock isn't being 100% honest with her, and after befriending her and her family and figuring out that he has a thing for the pink-haired spitfire, he's forced to admit that he targeted her for a reason.

Rock came to Mossy Bog to see what Jeanie Munro knew about the boating explosion that killed his partner and injured him. He's certain her ex is neck deep in the theft of some sovereign coins that belong to him and he'll do what it takes to get them back before a sleazy loan shark comes after him. He doesn't anticipate the feelings that Jeanie and her kids bring out in him, and soon the two of them are treasure hunting for more than just gold.

ROUGH WATERS is a book in the Mossy Bog collection and while it can be read as a standalone, my guess is that it wouldn't hurt to have some back-story on this crazy town. The pace was very fast in this book, but almost to its detriment, I had a hard time keeping up with the twists and turns and decisions and actions that Jeanie and Rock made. One minute she's thinking about how she's attracted to gamblers and liars but no way is she going to get sucked in by another one...and the next she's like, "OH, I like bad boys. Let's sleep together." Soooo, I had some whiplash with this book for sure.

I feel like due to the quick pace, some serious depth was missing from what could've been an interesting romantic suspense story. As it is, it came off flimsy and without a decent bite to it. The plot was a cool one, sunken treasure hunters, hit men, possible mob connections, explosions...but it just didn't come together well for me. For a book with more than 330 pages, the strange pacing became frustrating, and there wasn't even a decent sex scene to enjoy as I was struggling to make sense of what was happening! While there was some sensuality between Jeanie and Rock, the sex was sadly glossed over.

All in all, ROUGH WATERS wasn't a bad book, but it lacked continuity for such a lengthy read.

Great blend of adventure, who-dunnit, nail-biting excitement, treasure-hunting, romance, and friendship.

Book 2 in this series still takes place mainly in Mossy Bog, but features a different central character than the first book. This story focuses on Jeannie Munro, a single mom struggling to balance life one year out from a divorce, with two young children and a fledgling flower business. A mysterious stranger - Rock Mackenzie, former Navy SEAL and possible bad boy - drops into her life.

Jeannie and Rock "meet cute" when she delivers a large flower arrangement to his home and her young son dials 911 because the delivery takes too long. Jeannie is attracted to Rock, but still scarred by the divorce. While the divorce may have temporarily broken her, one year later she's stronger in the broken places and refuses to go back to being the woman who lives life passively and waits for others to take care of her. Besides, her kids and her business are her priority these days.

Rock pretends to be a guy looking for a place to start over, but he's really in town to hunt treasure - missing treasure that he think Jeannie may know about, or even have in her possession. They must join forces to figure out who really does have the treasure, all the while fighting a growing attraction to each other.

This book is billed as romantic suspense. I generally run the other way from that kind of novel, but I admire the author’s other works so much, I jumped at the chance when I was offered an Advanced Reader Copy with the expectation I’d do an honest review. I have to say I enjoyed this story waaaay more than I expected to. I read it in about two days, and found myself thinking about it when I wasn’t reading it. The dialogue between Jeannie and her bff about Rock was very realistic. The setting was well-detailed, the characters well-executed, the plot really did make me bite my nails and the ending was very satisfying.
Now I have to go read the first one in the series to get caught up. If you like romantic suspense, give this a try. Even if you don’t like romantic suspense, but do like mystery, give this a try. You won’t be disappointed.

SUSPENSE, ROMANCE, & TREASURE! WHAT MORE COULD YOU WANT!

This is the third book in the Mossy Bog romantic suspense/mystery series. This is Jeanie & Rock's story. Jeanie Munro is a divorced, mother of 2 trying to make ends meet with her floral store, The Muddy Rose. Her last delivery of the night is to Rock MacKenzie, blond blue-eyed ex-Navy Seal. Something about the pink spiky hair florist intrigues Rock. Little does Jeanie know that the handsome stranger has a hidden agenda. Someone has stolen 3 very valuable coins from Rock. His main suspect is Jeanie's good-for-nothing cheating ex-husband, Avery. Hoping to find either a lead on Avery or the coins Rock endeavors to get close to Jeanie. However, neither Jeanie nor Rock expects the electricity that snaps between them. After several break-ins to both her home & shop, Jeanie fearing her her kids' safety sends them with her mother to Florida. This leaves her & Rock free to investigate the disappearance of the missing coins & to explore the feelings that are sparking between them. From there author Maggie Toussaint takes us on a roller coaster ride of kidnappings, murder, & passion. I kept having to hold my breath, not knowing what would happen next. Just as I let out a sigh of relief I'd get another sucker punch. It was thrilling, exciting, & I loved the romance between Jeanie & Rock. We should all have a Rock in our lives. I definitely recommend this book. It can be read as a stand alone however, I highly encourage you to read the other 2 books in the series, Muddy Waters & Hot Waters.

Maggie Toussaint's Rough Waters is a romantic/adventure/mystery, well written and packing a lot of punch. Ms. Toussaint is a writer of expertise and imagination, who deftly establishes the characters, time, location, and potential conflict right away. She intrigues you with lively dialog and characters you believe in, as her plot unfolds one page at a time. Guided by her skills, we suspect we know where we're going but not how we're going to get there. Time to settle back for a good read.

In the story, a young divorcee named Jeanie is harassed by an unknown villain who not only threatens her home and business, but her life and the lives of her two young children. Coming to the rescue is a former Navy SEAL, Rock. He has his own agenda, but finds himself attracted to the feisty woman, whose pink-tipped hair only peaks his interest. There are blown-up boats, treasure hunts, missing coins, and a lusty young couple ready for it all. So are we.

There are many twists and turns in this adventure. It is to the author's credit that a storyline which might have been handled in a heavy-handed manner by a writer of lesser experience becomes, under Ms. Toussaint's guidance, a thrilling, entertaining, and fast-moving novel. I recommend it for that rainy or sun-shiny afternoon, when you want to get away from it all.

Rough Waters, rife with cozy atmosphere, is set in the small town of Mossy Bog, where everyone knows everyone else's business.

Who couldn't empathize with Jeanie Munro, an ordinary floral shop owner, who has her hands full raising two children alone, in the wake of her husband's desertion?

How could one not feel sorry for the larger-than-life Rock Mackenzie, at his wits end when his valuable coins go missing, and his livelihood depends on their retrieval? And, to make him more appealing, he's not only wounded, but is also a dog lover.

When the two's paths collide, they're faced with the multiple challenges of danger, distrust, and attraction. Can they survive with bodies and hearts intact?

I heartily recommend Rough Waters, a cozy with not only atmosphere, but also engaging characters.

Disclaimer: I was offered an ARC of Rough Waters for review purposes. I readily accepted, because I've always enjoyed the caliber of Maggie Toussaint's books. Once again, she did not disappoint!

Fast-Paced Adventure and Romance.

With a hero as rugged as his name and a feisty heroine with pink hair, Maggie Touissant's latest romantic suspense is as excellent and exciting as ever. I admire her settings, the small-town intimacies, the clash of danger, the realism of her characters and their relationships. If you are looking for adventure, a fast-paced read, toe-tingling romance and high stakes, 'Rough Waters' has it all. There is missing treasure, a mystery of parentage, rare golden coins, a rotten ex-husband, a delightful family, a heroine, Jeanie, who doesn't know the meaning of giving up, two delicious guard dogs and an ex-army hero, Rock, whom I would like to take home with me.

The adventure comes quick and furious as Jeanie's shop, business. home and life come under threat. Is Rock all he seems or is he, as her toad of an ex-hubby Avery suggests, connected to the Mob?

A satisfying and engaging romantic suspense.

In Rough Waters, Jeanie Munro is a single mother raising her two children while trying to run her florist shop, The Muddy Rose, in the small coastal town of Mossy Bog. She has been disappointed in love due to her philandering, trouble-making ex-husband. Then Rock Mackenzie walks into her life. Should she dare trust him?

Rough Waters is a well-written romantic suspense. Great story with well developed characters. Plenty of twists and turns to keep the reader intrigued! Loved the romance between Rock and Jeanie and how it developed. Satisfying ending!

Hot off the press!
The third in Maggie Toussaint's Mossy Bog Series, this one tells the story of Jeanie Munro, a single mother with a thing for bad boys. Enter: Former Navy SEAL, Rock Mackenzie, looking for Jeanie's ex, who he suspects stole his gold coins. He befriends Jeanie, who falls for him, only to discover his hidden agenda.
The story hooks the reader right from the start and doesn't let go. Mystery, suspense, betrayal, danger, and romance all make for rough waters, and a satisfying read.
Time richly spent.

I loved this book! It didn't feel "unbelievable". I felt like the story was actually happening when I read it. I read it in two sittings and that is only because I had to get some sleep, or it would have been in one.

Maggie Toussaint pens a taunt romantic suspense with "Rough Waters." Rock MacKenzie arrives in Mossy Bog intent on finding one thing – the missing coins he discovered on a dive. He's convinced Jeanie Munro's ex-husband, Avery, might have taken them. Rock meets Jeanie with the intent of her leading him to Avery, but soon discovers Jeanie has no insights into her ex-husband's whereabouts. Rock learns he's attracted to Jeanie and feels bad when her house is burglarized.

Jeanie can't deny the attraction she feels for Rock, but her priority remains with her young children. In order to keep them safe, she sends them away and actively helps Rock seek the treasure he's looking or. Rock doesn't know what to make of his confusing clues, but when Jeanie's life is put in jeopardy, he's forced to come to terms with them in order to save her life.

Toussaint's writing is engaging, filled with several twists and turns leaving the reader anxious to find out what happens next. Rock is loyal, protective, and determined. Jeanie is a modern heroine. Not only is she gutsy and intitutive, but when it comes to her kids, she puts them first. Both the characters are strong, likable leads. The supporting cast embodies southern hospitality and there's no shortage of suspects.

"Rough Waters" is a romantic suspense novel with several main stream love scenes. It's the 3rd book in the Mossy Bog series. The book stands alone in the series and embraces several elements of heightened suspense as the previous books did. I would definitely recommend it. "Rough Waters" is a page turner!

Rough Waters is the third in the Mossy Bog series, but stands alone fine. Jeanie's pink hair and some references to girl power are probably explained in the earlier books.

The story was interesting and I didn't fully guess the ending though I suspected the same thing Jeanie does. I liked how Jeanie and Rock aren't perfect.

I did find that some of the details are related over and over such as Rock's boat accident and it's details. Yes, I suppose it was realistic that he had to tell Jeanie and both sets of cops the same information, but it slowed the story down for me. I also agree with another reviewer who mentions Jeanie changing her mind about whether to sleep or get involved with Rock, yes, no, yes, no, yes. It is a romance so we know what's gong to ultimately happen. An inconsistency was Rock being so broke after his mother died that he had to sell his dive gear to pay for her funeral, yet he has money to pay rent on two separate residences and got the bank to give him a loan for another boat despite the insurance company putting a hold on paying out on his previous boat.

I received a copy from the author in exchange for my honest review.
