The blood beneath his skin sang to me, a siren’s song that made my gums itch. That ancient, feral part of me stretched and purred, drawn to his vitality like a moth to flame.
The sensation overwhelmed me, my brain short-circuiting. Twenty years. Twenty years since anyone had held me like this. The simple intimacy of it struck me deeply, and I felt my throat constrict. A hot, sharp ache built behind my eyes as Flynn’s warmth seeped into my cold skin. His breath tickled the nape of my neck, steady and reassuring.
Oh, the ways I would worship him, if given the chance. I would take him apart with centuries of practiced patience, piece by precious piece, until he was consumed with pleasure.
“I guess sometimes when you’re running from everything else, any direction looks like the right one.”
Five centuries of existence, and this was what my dignity had come to. Being mocked by a wolf over getting kneed in the groin by some human who didn’t even seem to possess the most basic of common sense in his pretty head.
“I guess sometimes when you’re running from everything else, any direction looks like the right one.
What kind of idiot follows their armed stalker to an unknown location? Oh, right—me.
“I’m sure you’re thinking, ‘What exactly is this strange establishment I find myself in?’” Actually, I was fantasising about licking your forearms while simultaneously sort of still pondering if I’m going to die, but sure, let’s go with that. “Sure.”
“Sebastián,” I breathed like a prayer. “This is what it feels like,” he murmured against my cheek, between kisses. “What?” “This is what it feels like to be alive.”
“Lord above me, your blood…” He sounded utterly undone. “It’s like nothing I’ve ever known.” His hips snapped forward with new urgency. “You taste of summer storms.” Thrust. “Of starlight and salvation.” Thrust. “Like everything I didn’t know I was searching for.” Thrust. “Like mine.”
“Whatever you need of me, I swear it. But stay with me, Flynn. Don’t leave me. I… Flynn, I love you. I’ve existed through five hundred years of darkness, convinced that love was a luxury I didn’t deserve. But you… You’ve brought light into every shadow. I love you with a ferocity that terrifies me, Flynn, and I cannot—will not—imagine continuing this endless existence without you in it.”

Five centuries, and here I was, supervising what essentially amounted to supernatural children.
How could someone without a heartbeat make mine race quite so fast?
