The Killigrew Street Case Files #1

Bite Marks & Broken Hearts

Rate this book
How to destroy your life:

1. Leave Ireland in the dead of night to flee to London;

2. Get yourself dragged into an alley by a demon, marked, and doomed to die;

3. Gain a mysterious, fatally attractive stalker/saviour. One with strangely sharp teeth…

Flynn

I never asked for this.

Okay, maybe a little. After all, the demon was undeniably hot–the perfect way to mend my broken heart.

But I certainly didn’t sign up to become his prey–because now my chest burns with ice as dark magic grows inside me… and he’ll be back to collect it.

Thankfully, I have a saviour. Tall, dark and handsome, though his vintage dress sense is slightly pretentious and his aversion to sunlight is a bit strange…

But if he keeps looking at me like I'm something worth devouring, I might just let him.

What's one more bad decision?

Sebastián

Five centuries has taught me three stay detached, stay focused, and never, never feel too much.

I built Killigrew Street to control London's supernatural underbelly. We keep order in the shadows, we maintain the balance, and we absolutely do not rescue pretty Irish boys and lock them up in our hotel.

Except, apparently, we do now.

He's marked. He's stubborn. He has an infuriating habit of throwing himself headfirst into danger with zero self-preservation. And he’s my problem to solve.

When my protective instincts quickly twist into feelings, I know I should walk away.

But my cold, dead heart seems to have other ideas.

For how long can I keep my true vampiric nature from him?

In the meantime, at least watching him try to figure out why everyone keeps making bat jokes in front of me is… admittedly entertaining.

Bite Marks and Broken Hearts is an adult MM PNR romance. It contains one touch-starved, emotionally guarded vampire, the golden retriever human who’s determined to break down his walls, a found family like no other, snarky wolves, sizzling scenes, some serious fang action, and a HEA.

The Killigrew Street Case Files is a series of standalone paranormal romances where family is forged in the shadows. Each story features a different couple and mystery, connected by their growing supernatural team and overarching plot threads.

The only thing I've got to say about this book, besides me being a fan of the Spanish ex-Inquisitor turned vampire who is a bit clueless and quite kinky, is that I love the whole concept of PNR set in UK with a found family of misfit creatures who live in spooky house and solve mysteries while falling in love.

Oh, and that you're missing out on the fun, wholesome and hot romance if you don't read it.

Welcome to the Killigrew Street Hotel

Which - in fact - is not an old rotting Victorian hotel at all, but the headquarters of a paranormal crime task force consisting of Seb, a 500 year old vampire, two brother werewolves, a witch and a human computer genius, who - ofc - are all gay, which, love.

From the very first page, the book throws you into a world of action, mystery, and danger - yet somehow manages to keep a wholesome, almost cozy energy underneath it all, and I was all about that!

In their line of work of keeping the peace between worlds, Seb stumbles upon the utterly lovely human Flynn, who needs… at bit of protecting, let’s put it that way and ofc chaos unfolds. Evil vampires, demons, deadwalkers, witches, necromancers - the whole shebang. The case kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time and when I tell you I didn’t see the bad guy coming at the end there, I MEAN IT, I was gasping!

What made this story shine though, was the cast. I loved every single character of the task force and I cannot wait for their stories!
Seb especially had me wrapped around his little finger. Him watching Buffy the vampire slayer in his free time? Him buying a cinnamon bun to sniff and lick because it reminded him of Flynn? This ancient vampire being touch starved and melting when Flynn plays with his hair? That shit was too cute 😭

The tension and sexual chemistry between him and Flynn was exquisite. I loved their longing, the slow-burnish relationship development, Seb’s protectiveness and restraint and the way Flynn’s sunshine character and full acceptance of what Seb is, wiggled itself through Seb’s carefully erected walls nonetheless. LOVED IT!

Though I gotta say, I cringed hard throughout their first sex scene. They’ve wanted each other for the whole book at that point, so I was expecting a deeply intimate, finally-coming-together love making scene full of trust and devotion and not a vampire x vampire slayer role playing scene where shy, inexperienced, virgin Flynn suddenly became a whole different person of dominance and sexual prowess. Instead I wanted this 500 year old vampire to show his young human everything he learned in his centuries long experience and worship him, but no. He was tied up and muzzled for most of it, just lying there and taking it. Neither fit the characters at all. Meh. Really disappointing sadly, because the build up was SO GOOD!!

BUT: the second sex scene was perfect, and everything I wanted from the first one so imma pretend that one didn’t exist and the second one was their first time. Okay? Okay.

All in all, I had such a good time. The found family, the strong cast, the care and comfort between them all, the suspense and action, the setting and even Freddy the pet zombie ferret worked so well for me!

I’m incredibly excited for Rory’s and Detective Dickface’s book, the set-up for those two already had me foaming at the mouth ❤️‍🔥
I’ll be following this series closely!

Thank you to GRR for the chance to read this ARC, this is my honest opinion!

Still enjoyed it. Can't wait for Rory and Theodore's story now.

This was fun.
Fast paced, at times gruesome (I'm a scaredy-cat, though), yet full of tender moments and a few sex scenes.
Plus: found family, deep-rooted guilt over past mistakes, loneliness.
I enjoyed how Flynn (human) and Sebastián (vampire) slowly got closer.
Loved Sebastián's need to keep Flynn safe, yet he was struggling hard to not suck him dry (oops).
The showdown was full of surprises, the epilogue predictably sweet.

ARC Review | 4.5⭐ Release: june 13, 2025 | MCs: Sebastián & Flynn

I loved every bite of this—what’s already here and what’s still to come. Consider me hooked and eagerly waiting for more!

I loooooooved this! The plot, the action, the side characters, the found family, the drama, the tension, the doubts, the love, the passion, the sex, the blood, the grief, the code names, the twists and turns, the banter. Absolutely loved every bit of it. I wish I were more eloquent, but honestly? This is it. Just love.

Look at these vibes:
🩸grumpy x sunshine
🩸 the cover 🫠
🩸 obvious age gap 😀
🩸 500 year old broody uptight vampire
🩸 24 year old cinnamon roll human
🩸 secret supernaturals
🩸 the incredible code names
🩸 adorable texting with adorable cinnamon roll selfies
🩸 banter to die for
🩸 tension that its an MC
🩸 found family and amaze balls side characters
🩸 the blood lust 🫦
🩸 not flirting, just observations 😅
🩸 OMG Seb watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer just made my life worth living
🩸 I'm sorry but this broody vampire has a bun to lick in his room so he can think of Flynn, come on!!! What a man 🫦
🩸 the sexting
🩸 So now Flynn stroking Seb’s hair will live rent free in my mind
🩸 My dead heart tried to beat again
🩸 Flynn the vampire hunter
🩸 A rooftop London under the stars
🩸 Epic ending and a promise of so much more

Sebastián is the kind of vampire I always fall for—broody, a little miserable, with a perfectly dry sense of humor. And of course, the blood siren calling to him is the softest cinnamon roll of a human, Flynn—who literally smells like cinnamon rolls because he works at a bakery. Flynn in those red square pajama pants? Iconic. He’s all heart, all light, and somehow manages to rally everyone around him, especially Seb. You deserved love, mi amor.

Yes, it has strong insta-love vibes. And sure, Flynn accepted the supernatural stuff way too fast. But you know what? I DON’T CARE! I love them!!

I dragged my tongue across the pad of my thumb.
Fuck.
Flavour exploded across my tongue—rich, complex notes I’d forgotten existed. Heat bloomed in my chest, spreading through my limbs like wildfire. This wasn’t just blood. This was ambrosia.

the cringe sex scene. I get why Seb asked for those things—it could’ve been hot without the roleplay bit, which honestly felt out of character. Flynn had flashes of sass that could have made it work, but it didn’t quite land. I think I didn’t cringe harder because I was mentally prepared. Thankfully, once they dropped the roleplay, it got so much better. The second sex scene? Pure perfection—under the London sky and poor Felix needing to bleach his eyes 😀.

And one of the best parts? The crew. Noctule, Terrier, Poodle, Peacock, Magpie… and finally, Selkie. Sebastián described them in the most perfect way 🥹

“White had promised me a professional operation when she’d offered me Killigrew Street. Instead, I had a hyperactive wolf with inappropriate jokes, his grumpy brother, a tech genius getting sassier by the minute, and a Gifted witch operating on tea and sarcasm. And yet… they were mine. My ridiculous, dysfunctional family.”

I loved the epilogue—it tied everything together in the sweetest, most hopeful way. I seriously can’t wait for more!

The blood beneath his skin sang to me, a siren’s song that made my gums itch. That ancient, feral part of me stretched and purred, drawn to his vitality like a moth to flame.

Bite Marks & Broken Hearts is book 1 in the new The Killigrew Street Case Files. Innocent - and very human- Flynn heads out on the town to lose his virginity, but is instead cursed by a cambion. Fortunately, he's rescued almost in the nick of time by hot vampire Sébastian, and introduced to the Killigrew Street crew and a wh0le new supernatural world.
The sensation overwhelmed me, my brain short-circuiting. Twenty years. Twenty years since anyone had held me like this. The simple intimacy of it struck me deeply, and I felt my throat constrict. A hot, sharp ache built behind my eyes as Flynn’s warmth seeped into my cold skin. His breath tickled the nape of my neck, steady and reassuring.

I really enjoy TJ Rose's writing. Similar to her other books, the characterization is top notch. There are a host of supporting characters (many of whom will be certain to become main characters in future books) and they are all interesting and feel like real people. Unfortunately I find the balance between characterization and plot to be a bit off in all of the books I've read by her thus far. I think I have to admit that her books are just not for me. The first 75% is front loaded with world- and character-building, while the plot moves slowly. Around the 75-95% mark, a series of occurrences happens to advance the plot very rapidly, involving formerly hidden special abilities, surprising coincidences and and an epic battle of wits between our MCs and the villain. The final 5% is very romantic and schmoopy and we get our hard-earned HEA. I personally prefer things to be more balanced, as I get bored when it feels like nothing happens for a super large part of the book, and then overwhelmed by the rapid fire plot development towards the end. The formula would make for an exciting movie, but just doesn't work for my personal preferences. With that said, the book is well written as always with TJ Rose so I really can't complain. The things I don't like about the book are "me" problems.
Oh, the ways I would worship him, if given the chance. I would take him apart with centuries of practiced patience, piece by precious piece, until he was consumed with pleasure.

Another personal preference but I also prefer vamp books where there is lots of biting and not a lot of self-loathing over it from either character. I thought Seb's character was well done, but I didn't particularly like him.

💬 QUOTES (possible spoilers):

Five centuries of existence, and this was what my dignity had come to. Being mocked by a wolf over getting kneed in the groin by some human who didn’t even seem to possess the most basic of common sense in his pretty head.

“I guess sometimes when you’re running from everything else, any direction looks like the right one.

What kind of idiot follows their armed stalker to an unknown location? Oh, right—me.

“I’m sure you’re thinking, ‘What exactly is this strange establishment I find myself in?’” Actually, I was fantasising about licking your forearms while simultaneously sort of still pondering if I’m going to die, but sure, let’s go with that. “Sure.”

“Sebastián,” I breathed like a prayer. “This is what it feels like,” he murmured against my cheek, between kisses. “What?” “This is what it feels like to be alive.”

“Lord above me, your blood…” He sounded utterly undone. “It’s like nothing I’ve ever known.” His hips snapped forward with new urgency. “You taste of summer storms.” Thrust. “Of starlight and salvation.” Thrust. “Like everything I didn’t know I was searching for.” Thrust. “Like mine.”

“Whatever you need of me, I swear it. But stay with me, Flynn. Don’t leave me. I… Flynn, I love you. I’ve existed through five hundred years of darkness, convinced that love was a luxury I didn’t deserve. But you… You’ve brought light into every shadow. I love you with a ferocity that terrifies me, Flynn, and I cannot—will not—imagine continuing this endless existence without you in it.”

* Fyi about 🌶️ levels: I rate spice on a combination of quantity, quality, length, intensity and explicitness of the scenes. K!nks are listed separately and generally do not directly affect the steam level to keep it fair for non k!nky books.

letting my pinterest feed pick my reads part I✨✨

I’ve never been more happy to pick up a book because OMG was this the cutest more precious romance everrrrr.

“ How could someone without a heartbeat make mine race quite so fast”

i swear reading about Flynn and Sebastian made me smile so many times I lost count🫢 they were both so obviously gone for each other but the slow SLOW progression of their relationship after they spoke about their ✨ feelings ✨was 🤌. I did like that Flynn had his own priorities and a life that he was learning to live especially considering the predicament he was in that lead to him meeting seb. I was happy that his life didn’t essentially revolve around Sebastian and forget all the reasons he wanted to start fresh 🍃🍂

the misfits. omg the dysfunctional family of misfits!!!!

“Don’t let our puppy drive too recklessly. That car is held together with prayers and duct tape”

Kit 🐺: grumbly grunting but soft spoken older brother werewolf💗💗
Rory: the hyperactive, act before he thinks, ball of energy and sarcasm👏👏 I CANNOT WAIT FOR HIS STORY!!! he’s going to be deeep.
Priya 🔮: I wish she had more page time?? She a was protective and kind mama type 🧙‍♀️
Felix💻: aww Felix🥐☕️ baby was coming out of shell and he’s so precious!! I loved his growing friendship with Flynn. His book is going to break me( he will get one right?)

“White had promised me a professional operation when she’d offered me Killigrew Street. Instead, I had a hyperactive wolf with inappropriate jokes, his grumpy brother, a tech genius getting sassier by the minute, and a Gifted witch operating on tea and sarcasm.”

Some parts were a bit cringy? The writing was very cheesy but it’s kind of expected considering seb’s age.

I’m so excited for book 2!!!

Wow. This was good. Like…. REALLY good 🥰

Usually, when I see a book with 400+ pages, I expect it to feel overly long at some point. I’m happy to report that it wasn’t the case here - I literally couldn’t put it down. And that despite the fact that it’s hot outside, and I usually like audiobooks more when it’s warm.

I loved everything about it. Firstly, the setting: Killigrew Street is in London, the headquarter of our “investigators” (not sure how to call them) is in a crumbling, old (haunted) Victorian hotel. The team is… something else: two Scottish wolf shifter brothers, one “gifted” witch, a human tech nerd, a zombie ferret named Freddy. A necromancer they’ve “lost”, but I’m sure will make an appearance again in a future book. And Sebastian Salazar, their boss, a 500 yo Spanish vampire who dresses slightly dated and carries around an umbrella, just in case that he needs to be out in the sun.

Oh, and Flynn, who recently moved to London from Ireland, who fled from home after having kissed (and being rejected by) his straight best friend. (That’s not the only reason he relocated, I’m trying to stay mostly spoiler free, but still whet your appetite).

Flynn ends up being “infested” by a demon and is hereby about to die in a few weeks, unless… well, unless the mysterious stalker/stranger (Sebastian) manages to find out who’s behind all the demon related deaths, and by doing so, saving Flynn.

Honestly, I don’t even want to write anything else in my review. I want you to go on blindly and enjoy the ride. It’s funny, sexy (yes, even THAT scene - I get why Seb insisted that their first time should be the way it was…).

I laughed, sat at the edge of my seat, and even shed a tear while reading it. The magic part is familiar enough to be easy to follow, yet at the same time coming up with some new twists.

The real treat though are the characters. They’re so well developed, even the smaller ones (like Flynn’s sister Katie, the telepath/cop, or the evil vampire lord) that you feel you’ve known them for ages, and interesting enough to make you want to know more about them (yes, even about the evil vampire’s background).

I’ll end my review with a few quotes:

“So,” Sebastián said, settling further into the armchair opposite me. He ran his hand down the length of his tie.
“I’m sure you’re thinking, ‘What exactly is this strange establishment I find myself in?’”
Actually, I was fantasising about licking your forearms while simultaneously sort of still pondering if I’m going to die, but sure, let’s go with that.

(…)

The depth of want that coursed through me was painful. Dangerous. This beautiful creature would be my undoing, and I found myself welcoming the fall.

(…)

“You know, I used to think the ocean at sunset was the most beautiful sight in the world.”
My thumb traced his jawline.
“Turns out I just hadn’t met you yet.”

This was a new to me author and I really enjoyed their book!

The whole set up with the Killigrew Street crew was fantastic. I loved all the different side characters and each of their personality quirks. The code names are so cute.

I like that there is so much more to discover in this world and with these characters in future installments.

This particular book had a lot of great things going for it. The hotel setting with all its quirks (haunted rooms, zombie ferrets and life sized doll receptionists to name a few). There was mystery, action and romance.

I will definitely be checking out more from this author and look forward to more from Killigrew Street.

I had so much fun with Seb and Flynn’s story.
🥀 Vampire x human romance
🥀 High stakes plot line
🥀 Great intro to a new paranormal world.

Five centuries, and here I was, supervising what essentially amounted to supernatural children.

The cast of this special task force was so wholesome, lots of found family/siblings energy, that I can’t wait for more of them in the next installments. A chaotic puppy werewolf and his grumpy brother, a gentle witch, an introvert tech, and a pet ferret… that may or may not be a zombie.
I want all of them and their happy-ever-afters!!

How could someone without a heartbeat make mine race quite so fast?

But the best part was, of course, the lovely romance between our brooding lonely vampire and naive but brave human. Not-quite a slow burn but also not too insta, amazing tension that explodes into delicious lust, fate and soulmates and forever.

“Serás mi perdición” ㅤ♡

Also, a SPANISH VAMPIRE? More of all of that, please and thank you. I loved that little extra oomph to make it different from other vampire romances, loved the angsty backstory, even the usual dramatic ‘I can’t be with you, I’m a monster’ and Flynn being like ‘your fangs are kinda hot tho, nibble on me just a little’ .
These two were perfectly meant for each other and if a book can make me feel all the love, then it’s a winner.

“This is what it feels like,” he murmured against my cheek, between kisses. “What?”
“This is what it feels like to be alive.”

Such an amazing story!
This book had me firmly in its clutches from beginning to end. It was so beautifully written, I loved every moment of reading Flynn and Sebastian's story. I laughed throughout this book, I smiled constantly at the sweet moments, I swooned at the endless amounts of pining. And I'm still sniffling and wiping away tears from that ending. The characters of Killigrew Street crew own my heart now. This book lives firmly on my favorite reads shelf. Definitely in my top 10 (maybe even top 5) favorite reads of the year (which is high considering I read like 500 books a year)

3.5⭐️ rounded up to 4 for GR

So the big question I’m asking myself is how to put my thoughts into words. On one hand, I devoured this and I enjoyed the time I spent reading it. On the other hand, there were certain things that nagged at me the entire time and left me feeling unsatisfied.

What I liked/ enjoyed: The overall plot was probably my favorite. It wasn’t completely focused on the romance which left a lot of plot to be filled by an interesting mystery. I thought the final reveal was quite shocking, especially because I did not pick up on some of the hints. The tension and chemistry between the main characters was also written really well. The beginning was SO STRONG and the chemistry between the main characters… was well… chemistrying🤣🤣 (is this a word?) The way Flynn would not back down and kept chasing Seb, despite Seb trying to control himself and undo his 20 years of celibacy was hilarious 😂 Also, the side characters were phenomenal!! They truly stole the show.

What I wasn’t a fan of: The ending… We had so much build up to the reveal which took place in the final chapter and then only an epilogue of happiness for Seb and Flynn. The entire book, Flynn was struggling with the “bite” from the demon that could kill him within a certain time frame. With this issue not being resolved until the last chapter, where was the stress-free scenes between Seb and Flynn that didn’t have an oh my god Flynn got bit by a demon and he’s deteriorating by the day… I can’t save him! moments? Sure, there were some good scenes between Seb and Flynn, but Flynn’s situation always seemed to be brought up by the end of the scene. I was CRAVING more chapters after the situation was resolved of just Seb and Flynn living their lives. This is why my rating is quite low, even though I enjoyed the book— I just needed more chapters between the final reveal and the epilogue.

I also want to mention Seb’s romantic history. This is another thing that lingered on my mind for a while in the story. Seb was in love with a human 20 years before he met Flynn. Seb, to this day, and even after Flynn and Seb started sleeping together, still received life updates via social media about his ex. Seb had the computer guy (Felix) print out things about his ex lover’s current life/ updates about him every single month. When Flynn confronted Seb about it (also, literally at the end of the book), Seb said he should stop it because it is “inappropriate” and that it is now a thing of the past. I had an issue with this problem being addressed way later in the book, compared to it being addressed in the first 50%. It just rubbed me the wrong way.

Safety info:
- Experience level- Flynn is a virgin (had never gone all the way but he had flings with tourists to do other things), Seb is very experienced but doesn’t remember these encounters clearly. (He is a vampire and has been around for 500 years but he doesn’t remember a lot about his past aside from what he journals)
- Seb has been celibate for 20 years (since his ex)
- no OW
- on page OM drama- Flynn was forcibly kissed by someone in the past and this guy shows up on page for one scene. Seb is protective over Flynn and defends Flynn from this OM.
- on page OM drama (pt 2)- In the beginning of the book (before meeting Seb), Flynn goes to a bar to hook up. OM kissed Flynn’s jaw/ neck but nothing else. Flynn wanted to go to OM’s place to hook up until OM tried to kill him. Sebastian saw this interaction and saved him, but also saw them dancing together in the club. OM didn’t really have an interest in Flynn, only was there to mark him with his demon bite or whatever.
- past OM:
Flynn- he thought he was in love with his best friend back home but when kissing OM (off page, in past), OM rejected him. I think OM is straight.
Seb- he was deeply in love with a human 20 years ago. This is brought up multiple times in the story since Sen doesn’t want to fall in love again due to having his heart broken by this guy from 20 years ago.
- versatile, 2 sex scenes, one of them is a flipf*ck. Flynn (the virgin) tops for his first time.

Oh my goodness, if you want an action packed paranormal thriller AND swoony romance - look no further than Bite Marks and Broken Hearts! It combines high stakes drama with top tier slow burn vibes, making for a truly un-put-down-able read. If you love touch-starved vampires, found family shenanigans, and stories about finding love in unexpected places, get this book onto your spooky season TBRs!

Y'all, I was ALL IN on the sweet romance between Flynn and Seb. Seb is a 500 year old vampire, but he has some serious baggage holding him back from finding love. I am OBSESSED with how he immediately gets so protective over sweet Flynn after he's cursed by a demon. The chemistry between these two is IMMEDIATELY apparent - I was honestly getting some hardcore soulmates/fated mates vibes, they are so drawn to each other. Regardless, Flynn is inexperienced and Seb doesn't trust himself, so despite near constant tension the romance really builds throughout the book. I loved this though, as their relationship doesn't feel rushed, and I really got to enjoy all of the sweet moments between them during the build-up (and all of the "not flirting" Seb does).

There is a huge emphasis on found family in this book, and y'all I LOVED all of the fun side characters here! This book is the start of a new series, so I'm really hoping that we get books for some of my favorites. This book was the second of my Spooky Season Group Reads, and I think the whole "Feral for Forearms" (IYKYK) crew had a lot of fun! I know we are all looking forward to book two after looking into the couple featured in that book - can't wait!

To tell the truth, I was expecting more smut than plot, but surprisingly, I got both. And I'd say on quite a high level.

✨️So, the story is about a Virginian boy who flew home because of some traumatic experience and is now miserable and lonely in London. And about an ancient vampire, who has his own mini underground detective club to deal with supernatural crimes — and a hell of a lot of emotional scars and issues with self-acceptance.

They meet when Flynn (the virgin) gets tricked by a demon (the bad guy). Now Flynn is on his "death bed," and Sebastian (the Spanish vampire) is trying to find the demon, save the boy, and not fall in love with him.

Apart from that, we get a fantastic found family, a green-flag, very sweet relationship built on trust, quite a few hot sex scenes, and a bit of blood.

✨️What was good?
I love characters who can talk. The way the guys built their trust really got me. I also enjoyed the setting and the whole "changing the lead" thing. Sorry, not sorry. I was there for the hot vampire — and I got my hot vampire.

✨️What would I have liked better?
I mentioned multiple times the relatively good plot and character dynamics, but everything still felt kind of too quick and too naive. I didn’t really get enough of the tense danger moments, the “can we trust them” vibes, or the investigation part.
I know it might be too much to expect all that from a romance novel, but I still wanted it to be a bit more twisted, I guess.

Anyway, it was a really nice experience. I got an ARC copy and I’m extremely thankful for that.

I think I’d love this book to be published in Ukrainian one day I am kind of lacking hot gay vampires.

DNF 26%

Had potential, but just did not work for me. Seb the vampire is a bit bloodless (pun intended) and the chemistry was non-existent and it all felt quite forced. The fact that Flynn gives Seb even a second of an instant, let alone follows him to a creepy lair just strained credulity beyond belief, even in a supernatural book. The side character already annoyed me, and the whole thing felt a little lazy.

i’m trying to rate this objectively, but unfortunately the random pov change is my biggest pet peeve and it kind of makes me murderous. like, even a 5 star book might go down to 1 after the random pov.
considering that i was kind of enjoying this until the 80% mark, i’d say that 3 stars is right.
but i am still pissed at that pov

Well, fair warning... this will probably be a gush review. I literally just finished reading and I am still riding the high. So before I lose you to my ramblings, just a couple of things: If you enjoy dark paranormal mysteries with a full cast of characters with a side of humor, this is for you. If you like your vampires broody but with the ability to be super romantic and makes your heart thump with their tender poetic words, this is for you.

This book hooked me in from the very beginning. Flynn is new to London and just trying to make a connection with someone to ease some heartache and loneliness. Unfortunately for him, he becomes prey to a demon instead. Sebastian is head of a supernatural team that tries to control crime in London and has been working on solving why humans are beings targeted by demons in a very specific manner. Once these two meet there is a instant connection and chemistry that's so beautiful. Flynn just fits in so well with Seb and his team, and the closeness and protection they provide gives major found family vibes. And of course, you can't have a broody vampire with issues about humans and their mortality without some major pining!

It all just blends so wonderfully together with some fantastic world building and really good action. There are also pretty creepy and gory scenes that almost push this into that romantic horror territory that I love so much. But the romance! The romance part of the story made my heart pitter patter. The intimacy that they share is just so romantic. You can just feel the love, and I loved that.

This rag tag bunch of supernatural saviours at Killigrew street were absolutely fantastic. This book is the epitome of entertainment and all the feels. The story has everything you want from a good book to keep you hooked, fantastic array of rich characters, adventure with a dash of danger, bit of personal growth and healing, life and death stakes, a mystery and some suspense, all the found family love and passion and chemistry and overcoming it all to have each other.

Flynn has run away from all he’s known and is barely settling into building a semblance of a life in London when he is pulled into a dangerous world of paranormal beings who’ve lived in parallel to the normals forever. He is now cursed to carry dark magic and Seb and ancient Vampire who runs a response unit to protect from supernatural threats has made it his mission along with his team (whom I adore and can’t wait to read more of) to save him. But there is a draw, a pull , a crackling chemistry which is undeniable… making Seb forget his vows to protect others and his own heart. In the meanwhile evil forces and vampire factions are gathering for something epic that’s going to go down and Flynn seems to be at the centre of it all.

I thoroughly enjoyed myself reading this story and I really recommend checking it out if you like a hot broody hurting vampire and a sweet sassy man who isn’t afraid of him.

Expect:

- Vampire x Human
- Found family
- Paranormal creatures
- Mystery suspense and life and death stakes
- Hurt and healing
- Role play
- Blood drinking
- Virgin MC
- Lols
- Action adventure violence death
- Opposites attract
- Tiny age gap of 476+ years

Flynn was a bit of a disaster, but the adorable overly trusting kind. Seb was broody, self-flagellating, and determined to keep himself out of love. They balanced each other in true grumpy sunshine fashion. There was some mystery solving in the book, with Flynn’s life hanging in the balance. The group on Killigrew Street was also fun. I would have loved a bit more clarification on how the big finale worked out the way it did, though I still enjoyed the book.

Spice: 3/5

Triggers: violence, gore, murder, medical gaslighting, past SA, discussion of Spanish Inquisition and associated burnings at the stake, torture, grief, discussion of homophobia from community and family, body horror

Vampire Sebastian seems to be the head of some monster hunting organisation.

Human Flynn has moved to London, running away from his small seaside town, but feels crushing loneliness. He finds himself at a gay bar, alone as his co-worker stood him up.

‘Well, it was safe to say my first night out in London was an epic fail. I was supposed to solidify my friendship with the only person who’d shown the slightest interest in getting to know me, and distract myself from constant thoughts of home and Tom and Connor by hooking up with a cute stranger. Instead, my jumper looked like it had been mauled by a bear, and I’d almost been shot at by some deranged psycho who made murder look unreasonably attractive.’

Flynn is left feeling like there is ice in his chest from the attack. Third times the charm for Sebastian and he finally convinces Flynn to talk with him.

Sebastian’s organisation headquarters is in an abandoned decrepit old building. Flynn is having second thoughts.

Porcelain Doll. Basement. This is starting to feel like a horror movie where you shout at the heroine to run 😂 oh haha Flynn feels the same.

Flynn meets the team.

‘I felt… almost cozy. Like I’d walked into someone’s slightly chaotic family home rather than a secret underground lair. ‘

Sebastian tries to explain. Killigrew Street , Sebastian’s organisation is a specialist response unit. They monitor and manage supernatural threats in London—everything from rogue demons to dark magic practitioners who cross lines.

The demon marked Flynn with dark magic but Sebastian and his team are going to try and save him. 24 hour supervision.

‘The walls of the basement seemed to close in around me. Demons were real. Werewolves were real. Magic was real. And I was marked—dying—with some kind of supernatural parasite feeding on my heart.’

Flynn and Sebastian grow closer.

A vampire attacks Flynn but Sebastian is there to protect him. Flynn finds out Sebastian is a Vampire and is hurt he kept it a secret.

They share a moment , Sebastian tastes Flynn blood - it’s like Ambrosia to him.

‘I was a monster. I was a creature of darkness, and I had no right to drag Flynn into my shadows.’

Sebastian explains why he won’t let himself get entangled with another human.

But they still have flirty moments …

Sebastian’s blood supplier is murdered. Flynn shares his blood.

They sext. Have phone sex. Then they cuddle.

At the bakery, Flynn tells Sebastian he has feelings for him. Then he is suddenly in pain.

‘Delicate patterns of frost spread across my skin like spider webs, emanating from just above my heart. The marks shimmered faintly in the dim light, beautiful and terrifying.’

Sebastian is hit with weakness because of lack of blood. Then there’s Dead-walkers who take Flynn.

Sebastian rescues Flynn . Flynn rescues Sebastian. There’s sexy times and orgasms.

There’s a kind of buffy the vampire slayer / vampire sexy role play time and Flynn loses his virginity.

“I think I’m falling in love with you.” He went utterly still above me, those dark eyes searching mine with an intensity that made my heart stutter. “I know I’m falling in love with you.”

This book was very good. From start to finish, it is action-packed. Each character is introduced to us in a way that keeps us interested but doesn’t take away the main focus on Flynn and Seb. The Killigrew gang feels a little bit like the X-Men riding in to save London from supernatural creatures that are a threat to humans.

I love the set-up, the world-building, the different personalities. I liked how there were different plot arcs, but nothing felt out of place or too much; it all blended together so well. I loved how we were thrown off with Padre Rodrigues at the end there. So many great details.

I loved the receptionist 😂
Rory has to be one of my favourites, so I can’t wait to see how this works out with him and Maxwell.

I don’t want to give too much away, so I’ll stop here, but I really recommend this book. The author’s writing was great.

"The blood beneath his skin sang to me, a siren’s song that made my gums itch. That ancient, feral part of me stretched and purred, drawn to his vitality like a moth to flame."

Bite Marks & Broken Hearts is the first book in a new paranormal series by T.J. Rose called The Killigrew Case Files, which is a series of linked standalone paranormal romances, each featuring a different couple and mystery but connected by their growing supernatural team and overarching plot threads. This is Sebastián and Flynn's story.

This had been one of my most anticipated books of the year... and I was not disappointed.

At this point, TJ Rose is becoming a must-read author for me, with her breathtaking way of bringing characters to life.

Seb and Flynn had so much chemistry, I had to pause to giggle more times than I could count. Flynn was stubborn and went after what he wanted—and that happened to be Sebastián. Seb was just so sweet it hurt: a tortured and lonely 500-year-old vampire in desperate need of love, yet utterly terrified to accept it.

But goddamn, I’m so thankful he did, because they fit together so beautifully. Their development was everything—and don’t even get me started on when Seb got all growly and protective over his angel! Please. It was amazing.

The story kept me on my toes and had me procrastinating all day until I finally gave up on work to read. It kept tugging at my curiosity, making me want to know more and more... And the side characters? Don’t even get me started. They all felt so alive! You can tell how much thought has been put into every single character we meet, and I just LOVE that.

It’s safe to say this book is one of my favorites of the year.

I recieved a free copy of this book and this is my honest review

I loved this book so much! It’s such a light, sweet, and cozy story where an old, grumpy vampire meets a golden-retriever sunshine boy who immediately flips his entire world upside down — in the cutest way possible 🤭

The romance is adorable, the interactions with friends are wholesome, and all the characters are adults who actually communicate (no drama, no tantrums, no nonsense — just vibes 🤣).

The book is also surprisingly hot 😏 There aren’t many spice scenes, but the ones that are there? Absolute fire.
Spoiler: this was my first time reading a romance where the characters do role play in bed and… yeah… that alone is worth a reread 🔥🔥🔥

The plot has fun and unpredictable twists, the pacing is easy and smooth, and overall the story feels warm, comforting, and very rereadable.

Loved it. 5/5! 🥰

Vampires, werewolves, magic, and an “abandoned” hotel housing a queer, crime-fighting squad of supernatural baddies. This book is an absolute delight for fans of queer supernatural romance!!

Flynn moves to London to get away from a complicated home life, only to be accosted by a mysterious demon, and marked for death. Swooping in to save the day, the vampire Sebastián and his team take Flynn in and do everything they can to save him.

One of the things I loved most about this book was the author’s writing style. The descriptions are great, without being overdone.
The narration is similarly beautiful. Most especially, the way Sebastián waxes poetic about Flynn in his internal narration is absolutely phenomenal. Here’s a tidbit that made me swoon: “Flynn threatened to make time matter again.” 😭❤️

Even though the entire story takes place over only a couple days/weeks, I was 100% convinced that the main characters were in love. The chemistry between them was incredible, and their intimate scenes felt so real. Truly excellent.

As you can probably tell, the second thing that made me love this book was the characters! The main characters have excellent chemistry, of course, but I also loved the diverse cast of side characters. Kit, Rory, Priya and Felix were awesome, and there was definitely good set-up for book two!

In terms of plot and themes, in this book you can expect action, coming to terms with a dark past, mysterious enemies, and easy camaraderie between the characters, no matter the situation.

Definitely recommend this book for paranormal romance lovers!!

The story line for the book was really entertaining. I enjoyed the idea of a supernatural crime fighting group using a rundown creepy base as their home base. The side characters were a joy to read. My favorite side character has to be Felix. He just wants to eat his kimbap in his tech lair in peace.

I had trouble connecting with Sebastián. Something about him just erked me from the beginning. I think he hated himself a bit too much for me. Used his self-loathing as a reason to keep away from the people that care about him. I wanted to shake him so many times throughout the story. Every time Flynn tried to get him to open up and he shut him out a piece of my heart died each time.

Now Flynn, besides Felix his the shining star in this story for me. He was just so likable. I loved every sassy second of him. The growth he had through the story was great to see. His came into his own and stood up for himself and what he wanted.

I am excited to see where the rest of crew end up story wise. There were some hints thrown out and I'm curious to see how the story progresses.

TJ Rose has this way of completely drawing you in. Time and responsibilities cease to exist. The world just fades away as you’re just completely consumed with everything. I did not want to put this down at all. Everything about this hit—from the beautifully complex characters, to the engaging plot, the found family dynamic, the emotional damage I was but through, and the amazing world building. There’s always such great depth in her stories, and this was no different.

I don’t want to spoil anything, so I’ll just say that watching Sebastián and Flynn not just fall for each other but find themselves was more than a treat. They were beautiful together, their passion raw, their understanding of each other clear, and their chemistry scorching. They both pulled so many emotions out of me as they went on their journey. I felt for the both of them, and even more so for Sebastián. My heart just completely shattered for him so many times, I lost count.

But there were also some seriously hilarious moments, mainly thanks to the Killigrew crew, too that blended so well with everything else. The very idea of a supernatural detective agency is already so intriguing; add an amazing set of characters and I’m down for it. They had me completely in love with all of them. Every one of them had some kind of effect on me and left lasting impressions. They were each so unique and memorable. I’m so excited to see more of them and more of this world.

I received an advanced copy and this is my voluntary review.

After two decades of control, I’d thought myself immune to such base attractions. Yet here I sat, reduced to an infatuated teenager, unable to tear my eyes away from a human who’d stumbled into my world a handful of days ago.

SEB MUST BE PROTECTED AT ALL COSTS! I LOVE THIS STARCHY, VUNERABLE, SWEET VAMP WITH MY WHOLE HEART. Flynn is amazing too, hehe.

Memorable Quotes

His warmth. His light. After an eternity of darkness, I’d been caught by his gravity, unable—unwilling—to break free from his orbit.

The sensation overwhelmed me, my brain short-circuiting. Twenty years. Twenty years since anyone had held me like this.

When Flynn Carter set his course, not even a storm could throw him off it. And right now? My compass pointed straight at Sebastián Salazar.

I just wanted to coax out more of those rare smiles of his, learn the stories behind each tiny crease around his eyes, maybe even drag him away from his paperwork and his cases long enough to remember what living felt like.

White had promised me a professional operation when she’d offered me Killigrew Street. Instead, I had a hyperactive wolf with inappropriate jokes, his grumpy brother, a tech genius getting sassier by the minute, and a Gifted witch operating on tea and sarcasm. And yet… they were mine. My ridiculous, dysfunctional family.

When I’d first listened to the silent stillness of his dead heart, I’d been distraught. Now, I felt a strange sort of peace. Like I was finally steering my boat into the right harbour after years of being lost at sea.

This was my first TJ Rose book and definitely won’t be my last! I was immediately drawn in by the writing style. It’s sharp, emotional, and flows so well. The characters felt real and fully developed, and I was genuinely invested in their journey. The pacing was perfect and I enjoyed the gentle teasing out of Seb’s backstory. Such a satisfying read!
