After years of trying unsuccessfully to conceive a child, Gemma Walsh finds her husband in bed with another woman. Unable to face his betrayal, she retreats to Priest Lake where her family owns a small cabin. But Gemma finds that she is not the only one hiding away at the lake to avoid an ugly truth.

Andrew Monroe was once an essential part of Gemma’s life but tragedy and misunderstanding shattered their bond, separating them. Now twenty years later, Gemma questions the coincidence of their newly intersected paths as she struggles to resist the sparks that ignite between them.

Just when Gemma feels that she has found her second chance at happiness, she is faced with a shocking truth as her reality spirals out of control. She can’t deny the powerful force that brought Andrew back into her life anymore than she can defy the same force that now threatens to pull them apart.

An emotionally-charged, heart-rending story that will leave you to question the freedom in truth and the existence of fate in its deepest sense.

::: FULL REVIEW NOW POSTED ::: 4.5 STARS!! ::::

Wow!! This was SUCH a good book! An unconventional romance with a huge twist and a powerful emotional impact. I loved it!!

I honestly don't know how to describe this story to you though without it being misleading because there is a  huge twist that literally changes  everything you know!! Like, really -- woah!! Technically, even the blurb actually makes make you "think" the story is something it's not. So it's hard to talk about...

PS - this review page is spoiler-free (hidden spoilers below).

I'll admit that I actually knew the twist before I started and here's the thing: There are many different kinds of readers out there. Some of you love going into books completely blind and being taken by surprise by the twists... and there are others who like to know exactly what to expect from this kind of story.

Just for me, personally, I'll be honest and say that if I had been taken by surprise by this twist, I would have disliked the book. This is not a fault of the author or the way the book is presented, it is just a reflection of the type of reader I am. This isn't me telling you what you will or won't feel, just me saying that for this kind of big, game-changing twist, I prefer going in with an understanding of what to expect because it gives me a sense of security. Knowing what to expect did not in any way dull the emotional impact of the twist. Guys, I CRIED. Over and over and over again, even though I knew what was coming.

And also... again, just for me, the minute I heard what the twist was, it made me want to drop everything and read the book NOW. So finding out was actually the thing that made me read the book!

So, I'm not telling you what to do. If you want to go in blind, do it!! Many readers recommend doing that, in fact. However, many other readers have told me that they are so grateful that they were told in advance and that knowing the twist made them able to love the book. So the choice is YOURS.

If you want to know the twist (full spoilers), click this link:

____________

Ok, I should probably actually review this a little now, huh?  (still spoiler-free!)

I really enjoyed the story right from the start -- that prologue was heart-wrenching! I think it especially helped my anticipation because I knew the direction it was heading in. Honestly, I did find the first half of the book though to be a little slow -- no crazy emotions or anything like that -- it just seemed like a normal story. But I knew what was coming and I knew what was really happening and so that kept me flipping pages as fast as I could because I wanted to experience the impact of the twist and when it hit, I totally fell apart! Big crocodile tears just streamed down my face. Then I'd be okay for a few pages and then tears would start all over again!! And it was real mascara-running, throat-closing-up, cant-see-the-page crying.

I LOVE BIG EMOTIONS. I want to feel the stories I read in my heart and oh boy did I ever feel this one.

This wasn't just a simple "boy meets girl" romance. The relationship dynamics between past and present and between the different aspects of her life were quite complex. There were secrets that had been hidden for years and a lot of drama and big life choices that felt very "real".  And I really appreciated that because real life isn't always simple, it isn't always clear, it isn't always fair and I loved seeing the characters work through these issues. This story was undoubtedly unconventional but I applaud the author for stepping outside the box and writing this story because it left such a strong impression on my heart!!

Definitely a new favorite!!

Rating: 4.5 stars!! Standalone Contemporary Romance.

This book had good writing so that's not why I'm giving it one star. The writer was good. Hell even the story line was good until it wasn't. But seriously. I spent more than half the damn book adoring freaking Andrew getting to know him, and then it turns out to be a freaking coma induced dream and Andrew is in a coma and dying. And there's no chance he's waking up so he then dies. Like really! Then you want me to accept that she loves her cheating husband so much. I barely know him!Why did you have me spend so much time getting to know Andrew and Logan for this nonsense. I haven't even finished the book. Once the Andrew died and she started being all lovey dovey with the husband I was done.

This is not a romance with a happy ending.
It’s a paranormal novel with a not so happy ending.
And I spoil it all.
So if you don’t want to know what happens don’t read my review.
There’s cheating. Crude and done.
The heroine arrives home and hears noises in her bedroom, usual thing you know. Every wife’s nightmare.
There’s her husband f***ing a woman, both naked, both having much fun in. Her. Fu***ng. Bed. and god, I was going to stop reading the book.
I read it all. Masochist bitch that I am.
She leaves him and goes to the place she spent her holidays, where her first great love lived.
There she has an accident.
Then she meets her first love again.
They are soul mates. Twin soul. He’s her first and her only, and so she is for him.
They fall in love again and she is pregnant, but she doesn’t know if it’s his or her husband’s.
The child she and her husband wanted for so long and weren’t able to conceive.
The pregnancy she didn’t have and that was the reason for the bad state of their marriage.
Because they have a bad marriage. She only uses him as a sperm donor and sex is only a chore.
Now the heroine must understand if she wants to be with her first love or with her husband.
There’s a traumatic experience in her past, something that kept them apart, and she moved on, meeting and marrying her husband.
There’s a big misunderstanding, a deception, and they lost each other.
But now they have their second chance.
I wish so much they could stay together and the child was his, not her husband’s.
I wish they could have their happy ending because they both deserved it.
The hero is not her husband here. The hero is the other man.
She admits she will love him forever and he admits he always loved her.
Why couldn’t the book end like that?
There’s the paranormal ending that I really hated, and the hero dies, she was in a coma and she was only dreaming but the dream could be real. She goes back with cheating ass**le of husband. Who cheated on her because he felt neglected the poor dear.
And it was only that one time.
For the moment of course.
Next time they will have a problem he will do better.
Promise.
I am very disappointed because this could have been a real second chance love, they are soul mates and there’s no doubt that their love is much stronger than the affection she felt with second best hubby.
Why did the author make this choice?
Ok, I’m all for saving marriages but in this case the heroine had already found her true love, they were separated by an evil om, and the heroine had already had many tragedies in her life why couldn’t she be happy with her real love?
No, for the sake of marriage, the author decided to throw a true love to the wind and to settle for cheating ass**le.
I hope that in another dimension she and the hero are happy together while ex hubby dies with a STD.

Argh, this is a tough one for me to rate. Almost all of my friends loved it, and I was sucked in, but by the end I felt robbed. From an actual feels perspective… it’s solid. I certainly felt my nose tickle several times, but, they felt like cheap/manipulated feels which I’m not a fan of. (I’m hard to please, I know 😶) So I’m just going to leave it as a 3⭐, because who really cares what I think anyway.

I don’t want to spend a ton of time on this, because for maximum feels, you really need to go in blind. The blurb tells us she finds her hubs in bed with another woman, so the cheating should be no surprise. However, IMHO, this isn’t really a “cheating romance” because those actual aspects like how, why, etc. are not really explored. Hell, I’m not even sure if the chick still works with him. The focus is more on the h’s journey/actions before and after the cheating. (if that makes sense)

Bottom Line- I’m torn on this one. I liked it, but part of me feels like I was manipulated into emotional feelings. She needs to talk about her trauma... have her wake up screaming. We need to tie stuff up and generate emotions… blow everything up. We need a reason for the couple to stick together… create one. We need a reason to move forward… have her randomly lie down by a dirt clod. Even the cheating felt more as a plot device than a conflict to be developed. It’s there to get the story started, but pretty much just goes away when we need it to end. I love feels, but I hate being misled. I wasn’t completely satisfied with the reconnection with the man she chooses. (trying really hard to be vague) I felt like we skipped over important parts/rushed it. I needed more to get onboard with the HEA, but we do get an epilogue which helps. I did think she did a good job of not making me feel like he was second best… the soulmate/heart analogy put it all in perspective for me. This wasn’t the perfect fit for me, but lots of people loved this one, so give it a try.

I read a question in the Cheaters Romance Forum and it was something about which scene in a cheating romance just guts you. How you remember it. So I took a couple hours to sit down and re read a few of my favorite/hate/rage/heart wrenching scenes from a few books. But This One. This one gets me. The slow motion of it. The realism of it. When she's watching her husband fnck the ow in their bed. On her duvet. When she watches the ow run her hands through HER husbands hair. The sounds of pleasure that he's making. When HE REALIZES SHE IS THERE. When she watches the other woman walk out of her home. When she watches her husband walk out of her home. When she watches him call her. Her detachment. The most realistic portrayal of the aftermath I have ever read. The rest of the book I could take or leave, but the scene where she walks into her bedroom and catches her husband with the OW still releases the beast in me. Too bad it never reaches those heights of angst again, because that was perfect. For that scene alone, I gave it 4 stars.

I'm on to The Ultimate Betrayal. Ugh, I'm a masochist tonight.

First, I wasn't sure how I felt about this book when I finished it, thought how I wouldn't be able to rate it, but after only 10 minutes of thinking about it, it seems that I actually pretty much hate it. I hate how I have this feeling that some stuff were sneaked up on me.

I expected "cheat & redeem" fest, and all the soap opera scenes near the end of the book, and I eyerolled like crazy and didn't mind because I live for books like this, and yes it was way over the top last 50%... but sneaking religious theme in it... tsk tsk....

If you would ask me would the main "spoiler" have sense without God... have no idea...

Well, a love triangle... sort of. Maybe a quadrangle???

I gotta say i quite enjoyed this one... BUT, I didn't view it as a romance between Gemma and Ryan.
In fact I never forgave Ryan because he just didn't seem like a real person when compared to Drew and Gemma.

Ryan cheats on Gemma after they've spent a couple fruitless years trying to get pregnant and the strain on their marriage is too much. He not only cheats, but he does it in their marital bed and she walks in on it. Gemma takes off and doesn't see him again till the last 20% of the story.
INSTEAD, she gets in a car accident and goes into a coma. But the reader (unless you are like me and love spoilers) doesn't know this. We are meant to think that she falls into a relationship with Drew, the boy she loved while growing up, who believed a lie his brother told him instead of believing her. Here Drew and Gemma get a second chance.
And so in a way Gemma cheats too (on Ryan that is).
But in REALITY, both Gemma and Drew are in comas. But Drew will never wake up.
So the story is super bittersweet.
But I loved the part with Gemma and Drew. To me, that was the book. The crap with Ryan was filler.

Why does the author include Ryan cheating in the story? Since Ryan is so little a part of the book...
-Well maybe to even the tables because of Gemma's relationship with Drew?
-or maybe it simply as the catalyst for Gemma to run off and get injured?
Whatever the reason it was such an unsatisfying part of the story. They never really hash it out on page. The story goes into a 'telling' not 'showing' mode towards the end to wrap it all up in a pretty bow that just smacked of BS to me. Must be nice that she can just quit her job and they can still afford to live in the city AND afford a cottage. Sheesh.

I loved the quasi paranormal side of the story. I just wish she could have ended up with Drew and told Ryan to go back to his fling.

Safety is not good, obviously.

~Four Realistic Raw Emotional Stars~

YEP, that is what I experienced while reading this well written story. I cried! More than once I cried. You can most definitely tell that L D writes with passion, pure heart and soul. She wants to make you think and feel and yearn for something. She wants to engage you in a loving, yet devastating and emotional story.

I won't spoil this for you and I will tell you that I didn't see the twists coming. Yes, I knew something was coming and I guessed numerous scenarios the entire way through reading, only to be blown away. I DID NOT read any reviews before going into the story of Gemma, her husband Ryan and her childhood friend, Andrew and I'm glad I didn't. I won't lie though, I personally wanted a different ending, the ending I imagined in my mind and my heart, BUT it didn't end my way as it isn't supposed to because it wasn't my story to tell. I believe it ended the way L D wanted it to which didn't take away from this great story and I highly recommend it!!

Now let's talk just a little bit about the story and we will start with Gemma. She is beautiful, a lawyer and a planner. She wants a family of her own but hasn't had any luck. Then everything comes crashing down around her when she finds her husband Ryan in bed with another woman. Gemma is devastated, hurt and now faced with lots of questions and heartache. Her life has suddenly turned into chaos and so she flees.

"I was questioning everything about him-my own husband-as if I had never really known him at all."

She retreats to her families cabin where she used to spend her summers and time with her friends, more importantly Andrew, her best friend. They had become very close only to have their friendship ripped apart.

"My family became Drew's family from Memorial Day through Labor Day each year, and it had become harder and harder to say good-bye as the year's passed."

Well low and behold Andrew is there, as well, staying in his families place which is right next to Gemma's. Needless to say they run into each other and start spending time together reminiscing about their childhood and teenage years together.

There was a lot of emotion during this time between them and a lot of questions to be answered between their past and present lives, each one trying to figure out what had happened all those years ago. Why their friendship ended the way it did, ultimately leaving them to move on separately when you (the reader) and they knew how much each one of them meant to one another.

Drew~
"I was just a kid, afraid of rejection. But, more important, I was afraid of losing you," he said breathing hard.

Gemma~
"He had been a part of my life longer than I could remember, and, though we had been apart for years, he had never really left me."

Lots of things are rekindled between these two, new and old, which leads to questions being answered and emotional turmoil as each one of them try to fight what is so visibly there. The simple fact that they love one another.

Gemma becomes so confused and torn. She loves her husband and her friend. She tries to reevaluate her life, seeking answers and wanting to forgive, to move on. You could just feel her pain and agony.

"I wasn't sure what I feared more in the moment, my past or my future."

"I was just living in the moment, selfishly doing what I wanted."

"I wanted to forgive him, to forgive myself, and to move on but I didn't know if I could."

So what does Gemma do? Well I'm certainly not going to tell you lol. What happens with Andrew and Ryan? Why kind of secrets are there? How will it all end?

Are you intrigued? I hope so because I really enjoyed this book! You will definitely FEEL, in my opinion, what Gemma feels and maybe even Andrew.

I guess you could consider this a love triangle and it does contain infidelity, so if this is a deal breaker for you, then you may not want to read it but I do recommend it and you should give it a try ;0)

Recomendo!
-----------------
What to say about this book ... very touching and my heart was broken in so many pieces and cried so hard in several passages that I felt all the pain and emotions of the characters. The hero of the story for me is Drew, and my heart was to him all the time! The story is not conventional and captivated me so much that I read at once without stopping. The husband (cheater scumbag) was relegated to the background in the history. Recommend!

Cheating husband who does nothing worthy of forgiveness. No real reason to cheat except he felt "wanted"....vomit.

3.5 Stars!

I thought I’d give this a shot what with such intriguing blurb and all the beautiful reviews. And it started off to a really good start.

Gemma and her husband Ryan tried unsuccessfully to conceive a child and because of the pressure, they slowly drifted apart. Then one morning, Gemma had to go back home to get a file she mistakenly left behind, when she finds her husband on their bed with another woman. Unable to face her husband and his betrayal, she went and stayed with her mother, who later on suggested she takes a retreat to Priest Lake where her family owns a small cabin. And this is where her story begins….

I questioned some circumstances in the story which leads me to thinking that there was something off. Well, either there was something off or there’s something wrong with the story. But moving forward, I definitely did not expect the hidden twist. Totally took me by surprise.

That said, before it got to that twist, I was questioning Gemma’s actions.. It is so hard to review this book without giving away spoiler. So I’ll just say, in the middle of the book, Gemma’s action failed me.

Here you’ll also meet Andrew or Drew for short. He is Gemma’s childhood friend, her best friend and could have been more. Something happened in the past that drove them apart making Andrew hurt and angry… leaving Gemma heartbroken and broken.

Through Gemma, I got a glimpse of their growing up years, about how Gemma and Drew became friends and fell in love, it made me understand the bond that they have together… So when that thing that broke them apart was revealed, I can’t help but felt sorry for both of them. But that still did not make me wish Gemma to just up and go have an affair with Drew in the middle of reconciling their lost friendship.

I also got a peek of how Gemma and Ryan got together…Their story was perfect or they were perfect together, that is until the pressure of getting pregnant got to them and Ryan betrayed her.

When the story reached that turning point, well, that did took me by surprise. But sure gave me a lot of confusion at first… then doubt. I’m basically screaming “What the hell!” And I mean surprised in a way a good book do.

I liked the set up of the story… and this is definitely well written… but emotionally I wasn’t as gutted as I wished to be. But I did feel bad for how things turned out.

All in all, I think it’s a beautiful well written story… and I would be looking forward to reading more of Ms. L.D. Cedergreen books.

Writing was amazing, interesting twist but disappointing ending. The wife (h) caught zhero hubby in the actual act with co-worker, runs away ends up meeting her younger self best friend/boyfriend.We get to relive her traumatic past (rape) and secret that came with that, wonderful b/f only to find in the end it was all some supernaturally stuff (coma). She came out of it only to find that he was in same hospital and dying -- hubby shows up in the end, they reconcile and have baby she was pregnant with . Very little information or personality from hubby, we dont really get to "know" him, what caused him to cheat (yes we get they were trying to get pregnant and sex became clinical so what, the end result is what they were working on)!
Anyho, in my opinion what would have been amazing? they both woke up,found each 0ther in the hospital, recover and end up together! thats an HEA to me! book left me very dissatisfied.

Something was off..a lot of inner dialogues and description.

The heroine saw her husband having sex in their bed with OW so she leaves for the summer to the family cottage to be alone with her thoughts. There, she meets her ex BFF, Drew. They lost touch some years ago and now their relationship is awkward because she knows that he feels something for her and perhaps she feels the same. After they reconnect, something happens and she finds out that nothing is at it seems.

If the story would have ended here, I would have rated it 3*instead of 2, but the author had the need to give the heroine a HEA with the cheating husband. No explanation for the cheating no grovel, nothing. I find him irredeemable and this ending made the entire plot stupid because she started to feel something for Drew. Anyway...i hated the ending

There is nothing better than finding "that" book sitting in the background silently asking to be read. A story that turns you on your head - yes there IS cheating but what a twist at the end. This books is not what you think.

Finally! After a string of books left unfinished because they were that bad, I picked up this one. And what a book it is! Raw and full of emotion and life. I love books that make me feel for real, as if I'm right there with the heroine going through what is happening to her. It's a rarity in today's literature and I'm so thankful for talented authors like this. I think I've emptied my tear ducts with this book but it was so good. The beginning is a little slow and the whole book seems predictable. I was so sure of myself, so smart of me to have it all figured out. And I knew nothing! It took me by surprise and dumped on me a ton of emotions and crocodile tears.

Baba, Oana, drop everything you're doing right now and read this book.
I mean it.

Oh wow I TOTALLY loved this book. This is an extremely brilliantly well written story.

I sat and read this in one afternoon. Seriously it's not a book to keep picking up. It needs your undivided attention because it's so gripping you won't wanna put it down. The unexpected twists in this had me gasping.

I'm not gonna go into the details of this story. That may just ruin it for you. I will say that I HIGHLY recommend this story. If I could give this more than five stars I would.

NOTE TO SELF - DO NOT READ

I have not read this book but I did buy it for the cheating.

However, per my FB book groups the story is set in coma land with the MMC. MMC dies in reality and the FMC ends back up with her cheating husband because she was pregnant.

I don’t do main character death. I read romance for the HEA’s. Not to be depressed afterwards. Smh.

Faced with finding her husband in their bed with another woman, Gemma runs. After an incident with a deer, she finally arrives at her childhood holiday home. And is delighted to find her childhood best friend, and first love, Andrew also spending the summer on the lake. After a blissful three months, life catches up with them, and Gemma is forced to face why she ran away, a long kept secret that could destoy her love for Drew, and Drew's real reason for running away from life for a while.

Ordinarily, when sent a book to review, the first thing I do, is visit Goodreads/Amazon to read the blurb and a couple of reviews if available. However, when sent this book, I could not find it, so I went into it totally blind. AND this is a good thing, believe me!

I'm not an emotional person when reading. I very, VERY rarely cry at books (Always, Kindle Alexander was the last). I get upset, angry, frustrated, annoyed, yes, all those, but I can count on one hand the times I've cried, great racking sobs, over a book. THIS book is one of those times.

For a while, as I was reading, I couldn't see myself giving this book more than 3 fangs. It plodded along, nicely, but still plodding. I could not see where it was going and how it would end.

THEN.................

It let loose! When Drew annouced his reason for being at the lake, and Gemma made her discovery, at about 60%, the book took off. And I spent the rest of this book in tears. I'm not kidding you, tears, for 40% of a book. I'm not going to go into plotlines or details, because one little slip will ruin it, but, oh, but you must read this book! Its got love, pain, hope, joy, desperation, and every single emotion known to man, all in 286 pages of astounding work. Its written entirely from Gemma's point of view, and you feel for her, you really do. As she relives that fateful night, the life she led after that, and how she lives now, and how Andrew fits into that life. As she deals with the repercussions of the incident with the deer, and how she deals with her husband's infidelity. And how she deals with the greatest gift of all.

I've filed this on my romance shelf, but also my paranormal shelf. I'm not going into WHY, just know that it will make you think, deeply.

Read it, please. Just make sure you are somewhere quiet, with a box of tissues, and time to read in one sitting.

5 fangs, but seriously, more if I could.

It’s really hard to find a good adult romance novel with characters that are mature, out of college, married; living a regular life similar to my own. I just devour a good adult romance and could not wait to start Gravity.

Gravity is the story of Gemma, a late 30 something lawyer married to Ryan, another lawyer. They look perfect on paper and really do love each other but Ryan has an affair but the two were drifting apart for years after trying to have a baby unsuccessfully. Gemma finds out about the affair right away in the book and leaves Ryan returning to her childhood vacation spot; a family cabin at the lake. While at the Lake Gemma reunites with those from her past, specifically the one that got away…

In Gravity there were parts I think worked really well and made the story intriguing and wanting to keep reading every page. Other parts of the book were a bit slow and predictable. I wanted to just skim over but I didn’t because I knew a great part could be next. Gemma was an interesting character. I didn’t hate her but I didn’t love her either; same with Drew, “the one who got away”. I wish I was able to know him a little more. I don’t know why but I liked Ryan and he was not in the book too much.

Judging by a small prologue in the beginning of the book I had ideas of the possible outcome of the book. I couldn’t believe I was right! It will be a shocker for sure for many of you. I cried at a certain scene!! I had full on tears at 2 am reading on my kindle. Not many books make me cry! I really appreciate the twist the author wrote for the ending. I think the outcome worked out and I was happy but some will disagree.

Over all Gravity is a good adult book. it has heartbreak, romance, childhood love reunited, and a great twist!

I give Gravity 3.5 Stars.

Wow, just wow...this was my reaction as I read the last sentence!
This story is both powerfully heartwarming and utterly heartbreaking at the same time. Gemma is a 36 year old successful lawyer, married to her college sweetheart, the man she loves with all her heart...but there has been a strain on their marriage since their inability to conceive a child. Unfortunately, her heart is shattered when she finds him with another women. She needs to be alone to think, sort things out and determine what's next - so she escapes to the lake house where she spent her childhood summers. It is here, Gemma reconnects with Drew...once her best friend, her first true love, and her soul mate. At age 16, a terrible event ripped Gemma & Drew apart...perhaps fate brought them back together.
"It was as if gravity had pulled us both here, to this place at this exact time, and I couldn't seem to defy the force of it."
"The love I felt for him could not be defined, or neatly labeled or placed in a box. It was boundless and unconditional, a force that pulled two souls together under extraordinary circumstances."
It is a roller coaster of a ride for Gemma who is torn between the love she has in her heart for her husband and the deep soul-binding love she shares with Drew. Sometimes things are not always what they seem, but they are meant to be and exactly what you need...yes, I am being vague on purpose as not to ruin this truly amazing story for you. I'll end this review with two more awesome quotes from Gemma...
"I should embrace each day for what it is and hold on fiercely to those I love, to not let the trivial things in life obscure the simplicity of love itself."
"I relish in the knowledge that the possibilities for this day, this moment - this life - are endless."

I truly don’t know what to say for this review. I am crying as I write this review! I loved this story, read it in one sitting over the course of an afternoon. Could not put it down. The imagery and character development drew me in. I felt the devastation as Gemma found her husband in bed. My heart fluttered when Gemma saw Drew again for the first time in years. I held my breath with their first kiss and as the twists and turns kept coming my heart broke and healed in turn.

The idea of having a second chance to fix a past relationship is a tempting one. Especially when the pain of the now is overwhelming. When the healing happens and brings you back to where you are supposed to be, with forgiveness as well as hope, astonishing. The love, anguish and beauty that is throughout this story is stunning. The what ifs are put to rest.

Beautifully written as well, definitely recommend this book.

WTF! Not at all happy with the twist. The ending? Stick a pretty bow on it and call it complete. I don't think so.
