Known to the K2 Special Services team as Romeo, ex-Navy SEAL Jake Buchanan may spend his downtime living up to his nickname, but there's one woman who sets his heart racing like no one else can: Maria Kincaid. Unfortunately, his boss - her brother - has made it crystal clear that she's off-limits. Jake doesn't do commitment, while Maria is the type of woman who deserves a promise of forever. Yet Maria finds herself drawn to Jake, the man who stares at her with a desire she wishes he'd act on.
Still haunted by her horrific childhood, Maria goes searching for the father she's never met and stumbles into a nightmarish experience. With her life in grave danger, she reaches out to Jake, her brother's second-in-command. Jake figures he can help Maria without giving in to temptation. But some things are easier said than done.
An award winning author, Sandra Owens lives in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina. Her family and friends often question her sanity, but have ceased being surprised by what she might get up to next. She’s jumped out of a plane, flown in an aerobatic plane while the pilot performed thrilling stunts, has flown Air Combat (two fighter planes dogfighting, pretending to shoot at each other with laser guns), and rode a Harley motorcycle for years. She regrets nothing.
Sandra is a 2013 Golden Heart® Finalist for her contemporary romance, CRAZY FOR HER. CRAZY FOR HER is the first book in her bestselling series about the men of K2 Special Services. Book two, SOMEONE LIKE HER, is available now, and book three, FALLING FOR HER, is due out this fall. In addition to contemporary romances, Sandra writes Regency romances.
Good second book. It skipped time though from the first book, and it wasn't really clear at first so that was a tad confusing,
Jake was hot and a tad annoying. He and his friend Logan were very similar.
Maria was interesting and like her brother she had a ton of hang ups all thanks to her egg donor. She forgave Jake easily I would have put him through the wringer some.
Sex was hot.
On to the next. I was a failure again and read the end instead of listening all the way through.
For her, he would step in front of a bullet, but she wasn’t his to protect. She was so far off-limits he might as well be wanting the moon.
“You know, I’ve seen the way you look at her. It’s different from how you look at other women. Maybe it’s time you grew up, Jake. Stopped chasing skirts and settle down with a good woman.” He glanced at the doorway through which Maria had disappeared. “Someone like her.”
I loved when they teased each other. Another text from Jake. She read it and burst into laughter. "You won’t be happy with Saint. His pecker’s only an inch long. Mine on the other hand . . . " Maybe he was jealous. After considering her reply, she texted him back. "So you claim. I wouldn’t know since you left without even saying good-bye, much less showing me your goods."
A couple mistakes - Deciding to turn the tables on him and see how he liked it, she stopped at the door. “I want to thank you for last night. It was the most amazing night of my life, but I’m putting whatever’s happening between us on hold until you’re home safe. I suggest you do the same.”
Note: It was this morning, NOT last night. Last night he was drunk. Editing!!!
“How much?” he asked after Maria left. “How much what, Tiger Toes?” “Dammit, boss. You’re having so much trouble keeping a straight face your lips are quivering. I’ll never hear the end of it if you call me that in front of the team. How much will it cost to buy you off?” “There’s not enough money in the world, Tiger Toes, but I’ll make a deal with you. As long as you keep Maria happy, I’ll shorten it to Tiger. One tear falls down her pretty face and all bets are off.” “You’re a mean bastard, you know that?” “Just keep a smile on her face, Tiger Toes, and you got nothing to fear from me.” “Stop calling me that.” “Tiger Toes. Tiger Toes. Tiger Toes.” Kincaid finally gave in to his laughter. Jake gave him the finger and strode away.
As he listened to Stewart boast about his latest conquest, it struck him that he was glad he’d left that lifestyle behind. He’d wondered if he might miss partying, but he didn’t. All he wanted was Maria. Somehow, she’d performed a magic act and made his issue with commitment disappear. He had no desire to have anyone in his bed but her, and the part of him that had believed he couldn’t be faithful no longer worried. That he was starting to think he wanted only her for the rest of his life was some kind of miracle.
Well, now he knew it was love because he didn’t mind at all that she’d wiped her nose on his clothes.
Good until around 81% - Jake acted like a total a-hole and did not ever fully recover for me.
disclaimer: i did not read book 1 in this series and while they can technically be read as stand alones, i now know part of what happened in book 1 so it won't be as suspenseful. i also think i missed out on some of the character development that had to have happened in book 1.
this was a really good read - pretty typical bad a$$ alpha male, ex-seal in love with his best friend's little sister who he's been warned to stay away from her at all costs. he actually is a really good guy even though he's been a bit of a man-whore. he doesn't feel like he is good enough for her or deserve her.
maria is pretty damn awesome. despite her upbringing, she is well adjusted, super smart and highly motivated to be successful. she has had a crush on jake for a while and she is not happy to find out her brother has warned him to stay away.
their banter is cute when not intense and they're perfect for each other. there was a bit of suspense and action which kept the story moving well.
jamie is awesome too. i'm guessing the next book will be about him which should be fantastic.

The book sucked me in from page one. I read it in one sitting and even though I have not had the opportunity to read the first book in this series, I didn't feel left out of anything. Yes, the characters were probably introduced in book 1 and maybe their development started there, but I still didn't feel slighted at all. I hooked from the blurb and it went from there! SO we have our typical alpha ex-Navy male know as the player, who falls hard for his boss' sister. I know I know, we've read this a thousand times over. But no, actually, not this way. Sandra Owens did a really great job with not only her writing style, but her characters, that I didn't feel like .. been there, read that! Maria is a strong and independent woman, but she isn't stupid. She knows when she needs help and has no problems asking for it. So when she goes looking for her long lost father and runs into some serious problems, she turn to Jake. Now her and Jake have been attracted to each other for quite some time, but have yet to do anything about it. But actually, they kind of did in the sense that they kind of fell for each other before even being an 'each other' .... make sense LOL .. that's one of the things that I think may have been seen in book 1 that I missed. But it doesn't matter. Because when they DID come together, it was SCORCHING HOT and that's all that I cared about LOL.
I loved Crazy For Her so when I got the chance to read Someone Like Her I jumped on it.
What I enjoyed the most about this book was Maria's take charge attitude. She gets in the middle of things to get things done. It's nice to have a heroine that doesn't like to just sit back and let things happen.
What girl wouldn't love an ex-Navy Seal following her around? I know I sure wouldn't mind (said the happily married woman!). Jake is a sexy hero with commitment issues. The guy has gotten a bad rap for being known as a "player" but sometimes the right girl needs to come along to stop those ways. Who cares that she's the boss' sister. :)
If you're looking for a book with a great characters, great plot, suspense with hot steamy scenes; this is the book for you.
**Read in exchange for an honest review.** Full Review to come in January.
I found this to be a wonderful, at times very humors read that kept me very interested. What I love most about this story was Maria with her sassy ways, her over protective brother who could be a little much at times and Jake aka Romeo aka Tiger Toes who couldn’t make up his mind to what he wanted. Like most men who wanted to hold on to his single life he had a hard time with the idea of love. Once he got it in his head he could be just as overbearing and protective of Maria as her brother. The two men she loved had a few trying times of who was more caveman. Two men who loved her fighting to keep her safe as they danced around who and what was right for her. Maria had a few ideas of her own and isn’t afraid to take charge why she shows the two men she loves a thing or two.
The author has a lot going on, that keeps her readers interested. She does an amazing job with past history keeping her reads up to date with what she written in book 1, she never leaves you guessing. What the author does do is get you to want to go back and read book 1. I have not had that pleasure but plan on doing so. I found just the right about of passion to hold my interest without me wanting to skip through pages to get to the action. For me this was exactly what I was looking for in a romance with just enough thrills to keep me turning the page to see what the author had in store for me. This was a book I had a hard time putting down.
There is nothing like a seal who is macho, kicks butt and takes no names who has a heart of gold but needs a good women to show him what life is about. A man who does his best to save the women he loves from harm even if that means walking away. Men can be so crazy sometimes that what they think is best for their women might not be. Jake is about to find this out with a little help from Maria and a few threats from her brother.
Marie is on the hunt for her father, she is in the wrong place at the wrong time and gets herself into one heck of a mess. She can’t call her brother so she calls his next in command, he comes running to serve and protect. Maria has always has feeling for Jake, Jake is fighting those feelings. His boss has told and all the K2 ex seals his sister is off limits. Some things just cannot be fought when two people are attracted to each other. Things happen when two people are but together and something just can’t be fought. Some things just aren’t worth fight for where other things are.
I thought I would laugh myself silly at the love scene where one of the K2 members walked in on them as things were heating up between Maria and Jake. That was just too funny. It isn’t all fun and games. The author puts real issues, pain and hurt into her writing. Some mission go well others go wrong, life’s are lost and some will live to see another day only to feel they have failed. The author gives you a thrilling story where you feel the pain, happiness, love, hurt and sorrow of each character. You feel like you are part of the characters and in the end you have a big smile on your face knowing they have won a bigger battle and have overcome much as they deal with issues and find away to overcome the odds that life puts in their path. For me the author throw in just enough thrills and humor to keep me hanging on to the end as she spins a story that kept my interest until the end. I look forward to reading more from this author. If you are looking for a well told story of thrills and chills with a tough of humor and a lot of love you have found it.
I loved this story! Jake and Maria make me want to fall in love. You need tissues with this one.
Maria Kincaid is eager to finish up her law school exams and get to work as a partner in K2 Special Services with her brother, Logan, and the rest of the team, especially Jake Buchanan, the man who makes her blood heat up just being near him. When she decides to hunt down the men mentioned in her mother’s stud book, hoping to find her father, she stumbles into something that her brother cannot be allowed to know about so she calls the one man she trusts to help her, Jake.
Knowing Maria is extremely off limits, going to Maria’s rescue isn’t the smartest thing for Jake to do but when he has no choice but to stay with her for protection, he fights an internal battle to keep his hands off her and her hands off him if he wants to survive Logan’s wrath, and keep his job. The only problem is that he discovers Maria is different from every other woman he’s ever taken to bed, and now he isn’t sure he can resist her or even if he wants to.
I fell in love with the men of the K2 Team in CRAZY FOR HER by Sandra Owens…Logan Kincaid, Jake Buchanan, and Jamie Turner. We felt the attraction that was happening between Jake and Maria, and already know Logan’s thoughts on his sister being involved with any of his former S.E.A.L. buddies, but especially the one known as Romeo. For Jake, his sister was beyond off limits, she was in locked down mode, and he swore he’d pound his second-in-command to pulp if he ever hurt her. So in SOMEONE LIKE HER, when Maria calls upon the one man she shouldn’t after being beaten up by the man she had hoped was her father, Logan is far from thrilled when he learns the truth. Sorry, I couldn’t help but cheer Maria on as she works diligently to seduce her Romeo/Tiger Toes.
Sandra Owens takes us on quite a rollercoaster of emotions in SOMEONE LIKE HER. It’s an action-packed, edge of the seat, steamy hot romance with its share of ups and downs, moments when we laugh and several when we need a tissue. I’d love to give you some examples, but then I’d ruin the story for you. Trust me, if you read this one, you will find yourself trying to read blurry-eyed through sad tears, excited tears, and truly smile inducing happily-ever-after tears.
Sandra’s writing is honest and tight. She gives us so much to experience, backstory that pulls everything together but allows us deep within her characters’ minds and hearts so we will feel their joy, their angst and their fears. These are complicated characters, and it’s one of the things, which I love most about SOMEONE LIKE HER. Jake and Maria are perfect together and just when you think Jake is the ultimate hero, it’s Maria who rescues him from the brink of his own despair.
I highly recommend SOMEONE LIKE HER, book two in the K2 Team series by Sandra Owens because you will be glued to this story from the first page to the last. It’s an amazing story, which features incredibly three-dimensional characters, and shows us how love can soothe the most pained hearts, boost the most fragile egos, and heal wounds that go so deep, some are hard to find. Read it, even if you haven’t read the first one, I promise, you won’t regret it.

When I read the blurb for Someone Like Her, I was excited to dive right in and read it because I've always loved the "off limits" themed romances. Jake, our Hero, is afraid of commitment and lucky for him, the ladies are only too willing to provide him with company without the promise of a relationship. The only one that evokes any kind of romantic feelings - besides lust - is Maria, our h. She has always been the one he desires, craves, admirers, respects and cares for. Unfortunately for him, she's his boss's sister and completely off limits. She's off limits for two reasons. First, his boss would kill him, and second, because subconsciously he knows she's the one and only girl he'd consider settling down with so of course he makes an effort to stay away from her. As the blurb states, Maria inadvertently gets herself in a dangerous situation and can only think of seeking help from Jake. Jake would do anything for her so agrees to help her despite knowing that by helping her it will put him too close to her with no buffer to prevent himself from touching her. There is no escaping the attraction, sexual tension, chemistry and ultimately the serious feelings they both develop for one another. And that my friends is the meat of this story.
Sandra Owens' book was sweet and straight to the point. There is little to no drama. No OW/OM to contend with. If you're looking for a quick feel good romance then Someone Like Her by Sandra Owens will do nicely. I certainly enjoyed it. Although, I would have liked Jake to be more possessive and jealous than what his character was allowed to show (my personal preference). But, if you like an in control, romantic, sexy H with moments of jealousy and possessiveness then Jake is your guy. Maria was a good match for Jake in all aspects. She was likable. She had her dumb moments, but who doesn't right? Based on the description of her physical appearance I kept visualizing the actress Nina Dobrev as Maria. At the end of the day, I would definitely recommend this book. Especially if you're just coming off from an angsty, emotional, drama filled book and you want to read something that will settle your nerves.
I am so glad I decided to revisit the K2 Special Forces series by Sandra Owens. They are available through the Kindle-Unlimited program, and the audio version is only $1.99. I just loved Maria and Jake’s story!
This story is fast-paced and pulled me in from the first page and kept my interest through the entire book. I thoroughly enjoyed the tidbits about Pensacola. I actually lived there for seven years, and Ms. Owens descriptions brought back many fond memories for me.
Maria Kincaid is a wonderful heroine. She definitely did not have an easy time growing up with a prostitute for a mother. Thank goodness she had her brother Logan to protect her. She has a lot of misconceptions because of her mother when it comes to sexual matters and no wonder. While she struggles with self-esteem in that area, she excels in matters of business. She is graduating from law school and ready to join her brother at K2. I liked her fearless attitude a lot, and her determination to protect the young girl Ashley.
Jake is your typical bad boy when it comes to women, but underneath, he is a loyal friend and would never intentionally hurt a woman. He was always careful to make sure his women knew the score. With Maria, he realizes something is different. Besides, she’s off limits since his boss is her brother. I would have liked a bit more backstory on why he was such a player.
The chemistry between Maria and Jake threatened to set my ears on fire! They are fantastic together and I really wanted them to have their happy ending. Both of them have been fighting the attraction between them for several years, and when Maria calls him for help, the spark ignites.
I listened to the narrative by Amy McFadden and Mikael Naramore and enjoyed it tremendously. Ms. McFadden reads with just the right amount of emotion without going too far. I also enjoyed Mr. Naramore’s performance in this one more than I did in Lost in Her.
I enjoyed Someone Like Her a great deal. If you are looking for a book with an engaging love story, plenty of action and interesting characters, then you will definitely want to read this book. Happy reading!
I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. This is book two in the K2 series. I have not read the first book in the series but had no trouble following the story. I still think it would be best to read these in order and intend to read book one. In a day and age of cliffhangers and serial novels it is refreshing to find a book that can be read as a standalone.
From the beginning this book pulled me in, and I had trouble putting it down. It is overall well-written and the initial flow is great. I loved Maria. She is a strong female character who is not willing to let others rule her life but is still smart enough to admit when she needs help. I also love her cat. Jake is a sexy ex-SEAL playboy. Known as Romeo, he is not the relationship type. Now, I love the reformed playboy stories. For the most part I really liked Jake. I did, however, have some moments were his actions made no sense or just seemed selfish.
Jake and Maria’s attraction has been there for a long-time, and I like that they both had all of this time to develop feelings for each other. What I really liked is that neither was claiming undying love before they even hooked up.
This is one of those books that started out really strong for me, but ended flat. I would say that the first two thirds of the book were a 4.5 star read, but the last third I had a hard time sticking with. This is probably a personal issue because my brain shut down and said it was time to wrap things up. There was a point that just felt like the end of the book, but it wasn’t. The last third was more of a 3.5 star read. While it had good points, it just didn’t feel like it flowed as well. Still, this is not a book you will regretting reading.
Overall, I found this to be a suspenseful and sexy 4 star read. I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a contemporary romance with a bit of suspense.
Maria’s desperate need to discover her heritage puts her in immediate danger. Maria Kincaid has an extremely overprotective older brother, Logan – an ex-Navy SEAL. But instead of contacting Logan when she finds herself in trouble she reaches out to his second in command, Jackson ‘Jake’ Kennedy Buchanan. No other woman, except Maria, could have a man nicknamed Romeo rushing from the bed of a willing woman toward a “woman her brother had put off-limits by threat of death.”
This was my first Sandra Owens’ book. I love that the author freely allows emotions to radiate from her characters. While watching a movie/show you can view a character’s body language; it becomes part of the dialogue. In a book, it is more difficult to depict a character’s body language, but this author comprises descriptive scenes that enhance the dialogue. I have not yet read the first book, Crazy for Her, but I will be reading Logan’s story soon.

Who else has "Maria" from West Side Story stuck in their head?
I love how she plays him.
I like how her brother and his co-workers want to protect her, but at the same time don't expect her to sit at home or have a "girly" job.
I eat healthy and organic, but a life without burgers and hot dogs is a sad one. Next thing, he'll say he only orders vegetables at Chinese restaurants; then I really will cry.
Hmm, time travel through sex. Was this covered by Diana Gabaldon?
If she loves you, she'll take care of you no matter what, Jake.
Thinking about doing something and actually doing it are two very different things. I couldn't do what security and military forces do.
Poor Jake. It could have happened to you, just the same.
First time I have ever heard the term "man-self". I like it.
Aww, I do love the hair ring. I never thought I would have occassion to say that phrase in a sentence!
I received an ARC from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
Someone Like Her had me captivated from the start. It starts with Maria needing to call on Jake to come help her. Jake knows she’s off limits but will do anything for her even risk his career and friendship. This book follows Maria and Jake as they try to fix the mess that is following Maria. Maria has issues that Jake is only just beginning to uncover. Issues that Jake is determined to show Maria that don’t mean that she is broken. Jake ends up having to deal with some of his own issues. Being a guy of course he tries to shut everyone out.
Jake and Maria come crashing together in a hot fever and then end up tearing themselves from each other. It was at that point that I really started with the crying. I just felt so much for Maria and Jake. They had a great support group of friends and family. They were all upbeat and positive, even Maria’s brother who had a hard time letting them get together.
I enjoyed Someone Like Her enough that I will be looking forward to the next book as well as picking up the first book. While this is the second in the series, I didn’t need to read the first one beforehand.
Very enjoyable book! This is the second book in the K2 Team series but it can be read stand alone, although I recommend reading the first to truly understand big brother Logan. When Jake "Romeo" Buchanan receives a call from Maria Kincaid, his boss Logan's little sister (well maybe not so little) he doesn't hesitate going to her rescue. They have always had an insane attraction but he never acted on it because #1 Logan would kill him and #2 Maria deserves a forever guy and he can't give her that. Or maybe.....
This book is very well done and I am glad I gave this second one a chance. The pace of this story was better than the first and it had me turning page after page. I definitely recommend this one.
What happens when you write a book with the Boss's Sister as the the Heroine and the Hero is his second in command and warned that she is off limits? You get a sexy romantic suspense written by Sandra Owens! I liked that the heroine Maria got involved in things, didn't sit there and let Jake have complete control. Jake is definitely an Alpha male, wants complete control but Maria just is not going to let that happen! He wants Maria, badly but is it worth the wrath of Logan the brother and his boss! Great book to read when you want want a book that will keep you reading. The book is sweet, sexy and the suspense keeps you glued to the pages. I'm going to read the first book in the K2 Series because I want to know Logan's story!
This is the second K2 Team novel. This is about Logan's sister and "Romeo" Jake, Logan's second in command. Logan has told Jake to stay away from his sister Maria. Jake's moniker "Romeo" is well earned. And Logan dosen't want his sister hurt. Maria has gotten herself in trouble while looking for her bio-dad. The man she thinks might be him turns out to be a rapist and an abuser of women. Now she is on the run trying to stay one step a head of this cruel man without her brother finding out. So she calls the one man she has wanted for a long time, Jake. Now he is set to keep her safe from the man and himself. Will he be able too and keep his promise to Logan? Or will love win out. Enjoyed this book by Sandra Owens. Look forward to reading more of her works.
I was captivated by this story from the very beginning. I realized after a few chapters that there was another book prior to this one, while I don't think you necessarily need to have read it first (Sandra does a phenomenal job with the back story) I was pleased to find out I already owned the first book and will be reading it next. This book has it all action, secrets and love. I really think you will like it every but as much as I did. I received an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review, which in no way influenced my opinion of this book. I hope there are many more to come in the series.
I love Jake "Romeo" already from the first book, so was really looking forward to reading this second book in the K2 series. And it did not let me down. I loved it! I loved the way Jake is with Maria - and his talks with him self.
All though the book can be read alone, I recommend that you read the first book before this. It gives you more knowledge into Logan and Maria's childhood, and explains why Logan has a difficult time letting Maria go. I also explains the "why" of Maria's doubts about her self.
I really hope to read another book in this series. Hopfully Saint's story! He is such a great guy. maybe with Sugar Darling? (love that name)
This book was well written it just happens to have the trope I really don't like. The guy who is a totally man whore falls for a girl but thinks I can't be with her because she's the kind of girl who should be with a guy who can give her forever. She's worth more than I can give her - implying that all the other women he's been with are not. Also implying that all the other women he's been with don't deserve forever. Also I just don't buy that you can be a complete man slut and then meet a women and instantly change your outlook on relationships. If there was a really strong friendship I'd believe it. But again that's just my bias - so in this case it's me not the book.
This is the first book I have read by Sandra Owens and the second in the K2 series. For me the book was ok, at times almost too predictable, but overall a good read. I am slightly curious about going back and reading the first in the series that is centered on Maria's brother since there were several references to events that took place previously. If you like romances featuring ex-SEALS this might just be for you.
This is the second book in the K2 Team series and by far I loved Maria and Jake's story over Logan and Dani's story.
I'm a sucker for friends to lovers story line and this one did not disappoint. You get the romance build-up, the suspense, the over protective brother, and the hot sex all rolled up into one. Plus, Jake is also an ex-Navy Seal, so there is that too :D
I really liked this book. It was sweet and loving and sad in some ways. Maria struggles so much with identity as she searches for her father and Jake also is in a struggle to defeat his Romeo persona. These two are amazing together. Great read!

I love this book! So much so I couldn't put it down! I haven't read the first in this series but it is now on my TBR list.
The story was so gripping that you get drawn in and don't realize that you have been lost in the story for hours. The chemistry between Jake and Maria is amazing. Well worth a read.
Received a copy of this book via Netgalley for an honest review.
What a joy to read an interesting well written novel! I'm so tired of bad grammar, padding to fill out the word count with loss of plot and waffle. This book was a joy to read, bit of realistic escapism, what more could I ask? I'll be reading more of Sandra's books.
Jake is the perfect match for Maria and vice versa. Glad that Logan was able to realize that and let Maria make her own decisions. Boy does she know how to get herself in trouble though.
