Survive the apocalypse, conquer in the arena, and become the ultimate gladiator.
My life took a turn I never expected on the day the world ended. Suddenly forced to fight in a bloody arena by a faceless System, I find the only way to survive is to win. I’m told that ten victories in the arena will give me my freedom, but if I’m going to get there, I’ll need a crack team of hardened allies to fight with me.
What I got instead was a bratty college girl with a jealousy streak, a momma’s boy roommate who now inhabits the body of a piglet, and a devastatingly gorgeous teacher whose sword is as sharp as her tongue. If we could learn to work together, we might just win this thing—and even take the time to rescue an innocent blonde from my past.
But the sands of the arena are treacherous and unforgiving. And even though my legendary warlord subclass comes with mysterious benefits in the bedroom and the arena, our new overlords would love nothing more than to see us ground into dust.
I’m told the System rewards bravery. Guess it’s time to find out.
Hey there! I'm Shane, and I love writing fantasy. I've been reading fantasy all my life, and I've always wanted the chance to tell the stories that I wanted to share. So here I am! With my stories, you can expect a fleshed-out and detailed world full of interesting characters that you can't help but root for. Thanks for checking me out, and I hope you enjoy my work!
I made it 90 pages before I just couldn't take how immature the MC is, and how childish the antics were.
The MC is a young guy going to college and living in an apartment with two other guys when the world ends. The MC's one roommate ends up in new world ,and the roommate is now a 2' tall piglet that unfortunately can talk. Both the MC and the piglet have the maturity level of a 6th grader or a moronic frat boy. The MC picks a fighter class, while the piglet is a NPC. At one point, the MC uses a lighter to allow the piglet to use a fart as a flamethrower. I kid you not. And, the piglet gets a skill "Farts of Destruction" for it. 6th grade humor.
Then they get to the arena, he gets selected last by a trainer, and has to fight a tough creature. His weapon is knocked out of the arena, so he steals the weapon of a nice young woman who was friendly to him so he can continue the fight, and said new weapon gets broken. The friendly woman now has to fight her life or death fight with a subpar weapon she's never used before. And when she gives the MC grief and a cold shoulder because of these events, the MC feels she's being immature and a brat.
If you posted the MC's behavior to the subreddit (paraphrasing the title to avoid profanity) "Am I the jerk", the overwhelming response would be YES.
Between how much of a whiny jerk the MC is, and the potty humor, it was an easy choice to bail on this book. It only gets more than 1 star for the cover art.
Let me just get it out there that I'm a big fan of Dungeon Heroes. And if you liked that you'll more likely than not also enjoy this one. So stop reading this and go read the book already!
Now for the real review. Depending on how things go I may end up enjoying this more than Dungeon Heroes. It just has that kinda vibe about it for me. The MC is cool but also not perfect which is nice to see. Brielle is GREAT. Easily one of my favorite harem girls across the genre already. She knows who she is and what she wants. Jenna is adorable and I can't wait to learn more about her. Sonia is also great and all the characters brind to the table stuff that Carter needs. Oh and the spicy scenes are HOT.
Then there's Vinny. I like Vinny.
I feel like often with HaremLit it sorta feels like a bit of a checklist that the author is going through for the first book. I never got that sense here. I had a lot of fun reading this between the comedy, the action, and the heartfelt romantic moments. The romance might go a bit quick for some but I think given the length of the book and the characters involved its well balanced enough that I wasn't bothered by it. Anyway that is to say I had fun reading this because I think the author had fun writing it and it comes across.
This series will fit right in the general , not too deep, more about romance and interpersonal relations for Befitting a harem. This system is not crunchy, very vague and overall. Not well explained powers come randomly and seem to benefit the MC of course. The characters are fun and different very lively. The characters are fun and different, very lively And will certainly Keep our MC on his toes for now. If you're looking for a deep storyline, don't look here if you're looking for something light and entertaining and an easy read, this will work just fine.
A new destiny awaits him full of love an adventure an survival one he's embracing it all .
A college student an best friend get swept up when the system arrives his best friend turns into a NPC character a piglet an the main character turns into a gladiator class . As he gets to learn how to fight in gladiator school an dive in a dungeon to increase his stats an how to survive the system to stay alive . Adjusting to his new life an finding love while doing it . recommend reading the book looking forward to the next book coming out . Excellent beginning series .
I've had this book in my library for a while but kept putting off reading it because the tournament system books mostly don't do it for me. I regret that because this new series is fantastic. There's a lot of fighting, but it doesn't drag on, and the characters and humor are all top-notch. The only good thing about waiting is that book 2 is out, and I can jump right into it!
The beginning of the series was a little lacking from other books by this author but after those first few chapters it really took off!!! A different take on a world ending event and some unique blending of dungeon and gladiator arena fighting makes this a joy to read!!! I can't wait for what comes next!!!!
System Apocalypse teleports the MC into a world of gladiator fights and dungeon diving. Not bad - some nice social interaction some nice fights. At times the MC wins way too easily but well - it is a feel-good book for a rainy Sunday afternoon - so don't expect too much of it but it is entertaining.
At the "well if you like her so much, I hope you're happy together!" accompanied by a pillow throw in a fit of jealousy (which the MC is, of course, oblivious to), all while it's your first (maybe second) day in a gladiatorial arena fighting for your freaking life, I gave up.
Too cliche, too tropey, too juvenile, too shallow, no thank you.
The writing was boring, flat and immature. I didn't make it past chapter four so I can not recommend this book or writer to anyone. There are so many better litrpg books that have good world building and likeable characters - this is not one of them.
To many meaningless stats. Plot that could have been interesting but "blobbers" - really. Too toung in cheek without being humorous. Sorry Shane but this was a bloop single rather that a home run.
I DNF this one. I got to about 19% and quit. Honestly the nicest and easiest thing to say, this book sucks. It literally feels like the author watched Spartacus and wanted to make a REALLY bad litrpg from it.
Wow, this is unbelievably childish. And it only takes place in a single setting - the arena and the dungeon underneath it. That's it. The dialog is embarrassing, the action isn't any good, and the MC is an asshole.
What a fun book go read I can't wait to read the next one in the series. I'm not big on war hammers but I'm not writing the story so ill just go with the flow.
The characters were all interesting and well written. The story was unique and well developed . I look forward to the next one and more fights and adventures!
