Neither of their lives has turned out the way they planned—and they certainly never planned on each other.
After more than a year in Europe, Joanna Vaughn returns to Sweetwater Crossing, her dreams of becoming a concert pianist shattered. As if that wasn’t enough, her husband, whom she married after a whirlwind courtship, has died. The only thing sustaining her on the journey back to Texas is the thought of her childhood home.
But to Joanna’s dismay, the place she once loved no longer feels like home.
When personal and professional crises throw his entire future into question, Dr. Burke Finley believes it’s time for a change. A quick trip to Sweetwater Crossing with his almost-aunt Della Samuels turns into an extended stay to discover what happened to his uncle, Della’s would-be husband. But the beautiful and musical Joanna makes it more than bearable.
As the two join forces to help Della, there is no denying the attraction felt on both sides. But ghosts from the past are coming to call—and threatening to destroy any chance at happily-ever-after.
With both parents avid readers, it's no surprise that Amanda Cabot learned to read at an early age. From there it was only a small step to deciding to become a writer. Of course, deciding and becoming are two different things, as she soon discovered. Fortunately for the world, her first attempts at fiction were not published, but she did meet her goal of selling a novel by her thirtieth birthday. Since then she’s sold more than forty novels. When she’s not writing, Amanda enjoys sewing, cooking and – of course – reading.
A captivating historical romance with endearing characters.
The writing in this book is truly beautiful. I enjoy reading books that evoke emotions in me, and the characters of this story really touch my heart...This book has everything - romance, intrigue, and mystery! The romance is sweet and tender and serves as a reminder that love can happen unexpectedly.
This is the third and sadly final book in the Sweetwater Crossing series. The story begins with Johanna, who has just arrived at her childhood home after experiencing devastating losses. Her dreams of becoming a concert pianist were shattered, by a severe pneumonia that affected her lungs. On top of that, her husband, whom she married after a whirlwind courtship, has passed away... Meanwhile, Burke has arrived at Sweetwater Crossing with her aunt to visit the Finley House... Burke is a Doctor struggling with guilt over the outcome of a patient's treatment and is finding it challenging to move on. Meanwhile, Johanna has lost everything dear to her and is searching for a new path in life. Burke and Johanna share many similarities, making them an ideal match for each other.
The mystery surrounding the fate of Clive Finley, who built Finley House for his fiancée, has finally been revealed. While everyone assumed he left to fight in the war and died, it has now come to light that he never left town. Johanna and Burke join forces to investigate what happened to Clive Finley... If you're good at guessing, you might know where the body is and have a good suspicion about who did it. The author drops some clues throughout the series, but the ending is still shocking and slightly sad.
Johanna and Burke are delightful characters who are easy to love, and their gently swoony romance grows from the warm friendship that first develops between them. It’s been a while since I’ve rooted for two characters to have a happy ending as much as I have for these two. Love these characters, especially Johanna, and her resilience despite disappointment in her pursuit of love and happiness.
The story was concise and did not have any unnecessary words... When I think of this book, words like bittersweet, inspirational, emotional, and romantic come to mind. The story can be read on its own, but I recommend reading the previous book to become familiar with the returning characters, especially Beulah and little Noah. I highly recommend Into the Starlight to everyone who enjoys reading delightfully written historical fiction, mystery, and romance!
Amanda Cabot brings her Sweetwater Crossing series to a close with this delightful story about Joanna Vaughn Richter. Joanna has been the missing Vaughn sister, with the exception of a brief introduction at the end of book two, Against the Wind. Now she is back at Finely House and with her sisters but her dreams of being a concert pianist have been shattered. 1883 has been a whirlwind of changes for Joanna. She married and shortly thereafter became a widow. Her Grandmother also died and Joanna herself hasn’t been well. But being at home isn’t as fulfilling as she thought it would be. She’s changed and she isn’t sure why she feels so out of place in the house that she grew up in.
Two new characters are introduced to readers in this series finale. You will remember Clive Finley who everyone thought had died in the Civil War. Well his fiancée shows up at the Finley House door with a younger version of Clive Finley. After all these years Della Samuels has come from Alabama to Sweetwater Crossing to see the house her late fiancé built for her. With her comes evidence that Clive didn’t die in the Civil War. So what happened to him and why did he disappear twenty years ago never to return? Burke Finley, Clive’s nephew and Joanna are driven to find answers about what happened to Clive in the hopes of bringing closure to Della.
This is the book that answers that question but readers will have to wait till the books ending to learn what happened to the missing Clive. I thought this book was mysterious, emotional, twisted near the end and romantic. This book was very captivating and kept me turning pages to the last chapter. I was totally drawn into the story . Amanda Cabot has kept the best book till the last in the series. What a conclusion!
I highly recommend this book to readers of historical fiction, mystery and romance. If you have read the other two books of this trilogy then you don’t want to miss this finale. I do recommend that you read the other books first as each book picks up where the other books left off. This book is scheduled for release on 7/16/24.
I voluntarily read an advanced readers copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions expressed here in this review are entirely my own #IntotheStarlight #NetGalley

Like the prior books in this trilogy, this book has a sweet romance within some tragic and trying times for our main characters.
They are pretty quickly attracted to the other but because of past experiences, they don’t act on those feelings and thus is felt almost like a slow-burn romance at times.
It recapped enough about the prior books which was helpful as it’s been some time since the prior books were released! I did get some side character in the town confused though.
I did like both of our main couple, but I didn’t care for a twist at the end of the book (a letter received). There was a bit of the message about following your heart, which I don’t like seeing in Christian Fiction, but there was some faith content to imply about God and praying over future paths and decisions.
I really didn’t like how the ending went. It reminded me way too much of another historical fiction book I read recently-ish. Down to some eerier similarities. I really disliked the ending, it was borderline sad.
The first two books in this trilogy had parts I liked and parts I didn’t love just like this final book, but I will say that these weren’t the normal Christian Fiction Historical book’s plots. There’s a lot of grief throughout them and yet slow and steady romances with some suspense of solving possible murders. Honestly, though, I am disappointed about this final book’s ending. It started out as a three star for my personal rating, but I had to drop it as the book continued.
*BFCG may (Read the review to see) recommend this book by this author. It does not mean I recommend all the books by this author. *I received this book for free from the Publisher (Revell) for this honest review.
“My parents taught us to try to imagine how the other person would feel before we spoke or did something.”
Imagine what kind of a world we would live in if a few more parents raised their children with the same values as the Vaughns!
It’s been wonderful being immersed in the small town nestled in Texas Hill Country for the past few days. I was sad to finish the book knowing that it was the last of the Sweetwater trilogy.
The focus of this book is overcoming challenges ~ especially change. Ironically, the two main characters crave change, only to discover that as they mature, it isn’t what they imagined.
“She’d once sought change. Now she valued stability.”
I love that despite her health challenges, feeling an overwhelming sense of failure and being overburdened by how everything in her life has changed, Joanna knows where she’ll find healing and solace - home. We all have experiences that don’t end with ‘and they lived happily ever after,’ but it’s what we do next that makes all the difference. Coming ‘home’ is where we’ll find solace.
Cabot shows how moving on with our future means saying goodbye to our past, how we shouldn’t expect someone else to heal us, and that it’s important to make a positive difference in the life of another. She also reminds us that our prayers are not always answered in the way we’d imagined.
Cabot expertly balances mystery, faith and romance. I loved how the mystery was woven throughout the three books and I appreciated that the male main characters also had challenges to work through. I was rooting for Dr. Burke Finley and hoping the Vaughns would get the closure they needed. I highly recommend this trilogy.
I was gifted this copy by Revell and was under no obligation to provide a review.
What would you do if your dreams were shattered and you had to start over? Amanda Cabot wraps up her Sweetwater Crossing series beautifully with Into the Starlight, a tender story of love, loss, and rediscovery set in a quaint Texas town. Joanna Vaughn returns home devastated after her dreams of becoming a concert pianist are shattered by illness and the death of her husband. Coming back to Sweetwater Crossing, though familiar, feels strangely unfamiliar, reflecting Joanna's own inner turmoil.
Enter Dr. Burke Finley and his aunt, Della Samuels, whose arrival in town brings a blend of mystery and unexpected connections. Burke's quest to uncover family secrets leads him to Joanna, and together they embark on a journey that not only solves mysteries but also heals wounds and opens hearts.
Cabot paints Joanna's emotional journey with such authenticity that it's impossible not to feel her pain and hope alongside her. Her struggles with loss and identity are portrayed with depth, making her journey of rediscovery all the more poignant. Sweetwater Crossing comes alive through Cabot's descriptive writing skills, evoking a sense of community and history that adds layers to the narrative.
The theme of faith is seamlessly woven into the story, grounding Joanna and Burke's experiences in trust and resilience. Quotes like "But you did your best … That’s all anyone can do. The rest is in God’s hands," resonate deeply, reflecting the characters' reliance on God Almighty.
Cabot's storytelling captivates with its blend of romance and mystery, keeping readers engaged through twists and heartfelt moments. The chemistry between Joanna and Burke feels genuine and evolves beautifully throughout the novel, offering a satisfying exploration of love and personal growth.
In Into the Starlight, Cabot showcases her gift for creating narratives that shine as brightly as the stars themselves, deeply touching the soul. This book is far more than a series conclusion; it’s an inspiring tale of hope and healing that will illuminate your heart long after the final page is turned. What lasting twinkle of faith will Into the Starlight leave in your heart?
I received a digital ARC of Into the Starlight from the publisher and NetGalley. I am not required to write a positive review in any way or for any reason. My honest and unbiased opinions expressed in this book review are my own. My review focuses on the writing style, the pacing, and the story’s content, ensuring transparency and reliability.
Joanna is returning home after suffering a tragedy in Europe. She returns to find a handsome Dr and his "almost" Aunt invading their family home in search of answers about the Aunt's fiance. Mysterious questions surface about the architect of their family home, and in search of answers Joanna may find more than she bargained for.
I really enjoyed this entire series. Even though I didn't connect with Joanna as much as the other two sister's stories I still liked the mystery and the outcome. The mysteries have been my favorite parts in these stories, and they make me want to read more from the author.
*Thank you to Baker publishing for a copy of this book to read, all thoughts are my own.
In Amanda Cabot’s ‘Secrets of Sweetwater Crossing’ series, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed getting to know Emily and Louisa Vaughn (and the men who capture their hearts, of course). But I’ve been eager to finally meet the middle sister Joanna who has been out of the country thus far in the series. Like her sisters, Joanna finds herself back at Finley House due to unforeseen circumstances, and while she’s glad to be reunited with her family she also grieves the loss of the dreams that had her leaving home in the first place. Getting to know her on the pages of Into the Starlight was a true pleasure. She carries herself with quiet dignity and possesses exquisite talent but at the same time she’s down to earth and approachable, and her kind heart makes her easy to love. The way the author describes Joanna’s musical gifting and the peace it brings to other characters in the story had me wanting very badly to listen to her play the piano every time she did so – pretty sure that’s a first for me, to wish I could HEAR something in a book.
Dr. Burke Finley thinks he knows why he’s traveling to Sweetwater Crossing – to bring his almost-aunt Della to see the house his late Uncle Clive built for her and to take a much-needed break from his medical practice after some painful experiences. But as is often the case, God has other plans that could exceed Burke’s imaginations, and one of those ‘new dreams’ He is stirring in Burke’s heart has a lot to do with Joanna and his growing feelings for her. Like Joanna, Burke is so easy to love right away and so is the idea of a relationship between Burke and Joanna. Their almost immediate connection, the way they selflessly supported each other in little ways and big, and their warm friendship that subsequently develops into a gentle romance is sweet and uplifting. Just watching them together on the pages made my heart smile – and that goes for the love-at-first-sight secondary romance in this book too!
Bottom Line: Into the Starlight by Amanda Cabot beautifully explores the dreams we have for our lives, the acute disappointment we experience when those dreams die, and the joy that comes from surrendering those dreams to the perfect ones God has for us. Joanna and Burke are such wonderful characters, and their relationship (first as friends and then as a romance) is grace-filled and edifying, not just for them but for readers also. But that’s not all I loved about this book, nor was wanting to meet Joanna all I’d been looking forward to. Because out of all the secrets that the otherwise-charming town of Sweetwater Crossing has been keeping, the mystery of what happened to Clive Finley is chief among them. I’ve had my suspicions from the beginning but I wasn’t expecting all the twists that the truth took before coming to light – or the surprises that the author had up her sleeve! If we must say goodbye to Sweetwater Crossing for now, Into the Starlight is the perfect sendoff with its wonderful characters, heartwarming romance & unexpected turns!
(I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book)
I received a copy for review purposes; all opinions are honest and mine alone.
Altho’ INTO THE STARLIGHT is the final volume in a three book series, it can easily stand alone. Author, Amanda Cabot provides enough backstory on the key characters so readers don’t feel cheated regarding the ability to understand relationships and motivations.
Cabot offers something for everyone in this story: murder, mayhem, romance, second chances at love, mysteries and a small town setting that is full of interesting, quirky characters. There is a solid Christian theme running thru the storyline that occurs naturally: people pray at dinner, for and with each other, go to Bible studies, attend church and functions in and around the church, quote scripture in their regular speech and so forth; not forced or preachy.
Issue that are contemporary in small town Texas 1883 are presented via the lives of the characters: changing roles of women, needs for chaperones, women working outside the home, women doctors, equity treatment of wealthy people vs. poor or middle class, unwed mothers & children and voting rights, to name some.
A good sense of time and place with a solid historical background and romance that’s not too mushy. I’ll take heartfelt and thoughtful every time📚
Read & Reviewed from a NetGalley eARC, with thanks
This entry in the author’s Sweetwater Crossing series is a well-written and sweet it of escapism like the earlier books in the series. As with the others, the story of Joanna and Burke is well-written and emotional, and readers of the whole series will like catching up with characters from the other books. Joanna returns from Europe and heartbreak to catch up with family, while Burke and his aunt are trying to solve a family mystery. The mystery element really helps drive the story along. My only complaint is that some of the tension echoed the situation from the earlier books a little too closely. Again, though, a good, enjoyable entry in the series. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an advance copy. All views are entirely my own.
Wow! What an exciting conclusion to the Secrets of Sweetwater Crossing series! Amanda Cabot combines an intriguing, slow burn mystery, a lovely second chance romance, and inspirational faith which made Into the Starlight such a fast paced, unputdownable read! After reading the previous two books, I was so intrigued by Joanna’s story who was away in Europe and unreachable by letter in the last book. Learning about what happened to her & her return to Sweetwater Crossing was even better than anticipated.
Joanna Vaughn’s return to Sweetwater Crossing’s bittersweet. She’s endured severe illness, the death of several loved ones including her husband, and the heartbreaking loss of her dream of being a concert pianist. As she struggles to find her place when so much has changed, she finds growing comfort and joy from being with her sisters again. She also finds a deep friendship with Dr. Burke Finley who’s come to Sweetwater Crossing with his “aunt” to see the home her fiancé built for her before he disappeared many years ago.
After his fiancée married his partner and blamed him for her mother’s death, Burke is ready for a change. When the woman who was engaged to his uncle wants to visit Sweetwater Crossing, Burke readily agrees to accompany her. He also wants to finally find out what happened to his uncle. When he meets the beautiful Joanna, he admires her talent & wants to help her. As their friendship grows, the undercurrent of attraction sizzles between them. As they work together to investigate Burke’s uncle’s disappearance, he also finds new purpose in helping Joanna’s sister, the local doctor. But when the past comes back to haunt them, will they find a happily ever after or be torn apart.
I loved Joanna’s & Burke’s second chance romance & how it beautifully grows from friends to more. I enjoyed seeing how they supported each other & helped each other overcome the past. The slow burn mystery was so good especially because it’s been simmering throughout the whole series. There were multiple suspects with a couple of red herrings thrown in. The villain was a bit surprising which made it all the more intriguing. The ending had me on the edge of my seat!
Highest of recommendations for this book and the entire series! Though it can be read as a standalone, it’s so much better if you’ve read the previous books in the series. I received an advanced complimentary copy from the author & publisher. All opinions are my own and voluntarily provided.
I love the sisters and how close they are. Sweetwater Crossing is a place where everyone feels like family and would be a great place to grow. Although this story is a romance there is so much more. A deeply buried secret keeps the reader fully engaged. More than one secret keeps this story exciting, twisting everything to keep the reader guessing at how it ends. I enjoyed the music and medicine components of this story. The author does a fantastic job at guiding the readers and their emotions toward certain characters yet keeping them undecided about others. There is a great ending to the story and series that wrapped up all three sisters and their lives founded on God, family and friends. Was given a complimentary copy. All opinions are my own.
Into the Starlight, the third book in the wonderful Secrets of Sweetwater Crossing series set in the 1880s, concludes the saga of the Vaughn sisters—Emily, Louisa, and Joanna. I was excited to return to Sweetwater Crossing, Texas, where I reconnected with the beloved sisters and other endearing members of this small western community and met some very captivating newcomers. Joanna has returned home after suffering great loss and crumbled dreams. Burke Finley, a guilt-ridden doctor, comes to town, and they find themselves working together to solve the mystery of the disappearance of Burke’s Uncle Clive some twenty years ago. The multi-layered intriguing plot, beautifully crafted characters, sweet romance, and inspiring faith lessons kept me engaged from the beginning to the surprising, satisfying ending. I love this book and the series and give them both my highest recommendation. Note: This book can be read as a standalone, but I recommend reading the books in order for a richer reading experience. I received a copy courtesy of Revell through Interviews & Reviews for my honest opinion.
What a wonderful conclusion to the Secrets of Sweetwater Crossing series and what secrets they are. As the secrets unfold you will be shocked and engrossed, turning pages quickly to find out the why. What ingenious writing as Joannas story unfolds and Dr Burke and Della arrive in town. I love the Vaughn family and watching these sisters grow and find love, so I was excited to see Joanna have her story and what a journey to happiness it is. A family of faith that has faced tragedies and remained faithful to God are inspiring and the writing style has you feeling like you are a part of the town. Although this can be read as a stand-alone I recommend reading the entire series as you won’t want to miss anything about this family and the secrets each book uncovers. I am sad to leave Sweetwater Crossing but I will carry it with me for a long time. Highly recommend historical fiction at its best. I received a complimentary copy from the author/publisher. The honest review and opinions are my own and were not required.
The Vaughn sisters! It’s always so fun to get to check in on characters (in this case sisters) from the previous books in a series.
This time we get Joanna’s story. She has been through some very hard times. She is struggling with the loss of her dream because of her health. But unexpected blessings come her way too.
Burke, what a wonderful man to travel for days with his “Aunt” just so she can find answers to her questions from long ago. He is battling his own guilt and disappointments. I loved the way he always knew when something was bothering Joanna (even the smallest thing).
Some of Sweetwater Crossing resident’s long buried secrets are revealed and other residents found peace. What a fitting and beautiful conclusion to the Vaughn sisters and Sweetwater Crossing.
“He would do whatever he could to make Joanna laugh at least once a day.”

Into the Starlight by Amanda Cabot is the third book in her Sweetwater Crossing series. Oh gracious!! I loved this series with all of its quirky characters, mysteries that had me guessing constantly, the romances and Biblical truths. I would love to read more stories from this small town that always pull me in every time. Bravo Amanda!!
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher. The opinions expressed are completely my own.
What a wonderful close to a great series. This was probably my favorite book out of the three.
This book about the middle child of a mixed family is very endearing. I loved Joanna and felt like she exhibited all the things a middle child normally does. She was definitely balanced, independent, and a peace keeper. Her story was interesting and I loved how we really got to know her.
Burke's story was also the most interesting out of the husbands. I found his hardship to be the most real and we really got to know him more than Josh and Craig. It was really just a heartwarming read.
I highly recommend this series to anyone wanting a historical romance that is sort of like a Hallmark movie.
I received a free advanced readers copy from NetGalley for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
I’ve been waiting for this book to read Joanna’s story! Great read and finally the truth of what happened to a man who was assumed lost in the Civil War. I love the way the author brings her characters from lost dreams, expectations, and goals in life to be put exactly where God wants them. That has been my personal experience as well. I received a complimentary copy of this book. My opinions are my own.
Into the Starlight is an exciting book with deeply relatable main characters that immediately captured my attention. I loved reading about the town of Sweetwater Crossing that took on life as I turned the pages. Its characters have many layers, some of which I didn't find out about until the end—lots of surprises in this one.
There are secrets, new love, and even heartbreak. But a sense of faith came through it all as everything came to a close and wrapped up nicely. This story will stay with you long after you turn the last page.
If you like clean romance and historical details of the 1800s in a small-town rich with character, this book is for you. Highly recommended.
I received a complimentary copy from the publisher; a positive review is not required. All opinions are my own.
Into the Starlight is the last book in the Sweetwater Crossing series by Amanda Cabot. Joanna and Burke were both good characters. It was nice getting to meet them and see characters from the previous books in the series. I would have to say though that this book is my least favorite of the Sweetwater Crossing series. I had a harder time getting into it. I did not like some stuff that happened towards the end of the book. This book had a bit of a mystery to it like the others in the series. Overall it was pretty good just not a favorite.
Such a fun historical fiction! While I haven’t read the first two books in the series, this was still great as a stand alone book as well. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC. All views are my own.
Loved reading the Inspirational Christian Romance Story. After JoAnne's dream of being a concert pianist and the death of her husband, JoAnne comes back to town, meets Burke and his Aunt Della, and feelings begin to develop between Burke and JoAnne. Read the highly recommended, wonderfully written, and a must read riveting story.
Into the Starlight is the third in the series Secrets of Sweetwater Crossing. This book follows the middle sister Joanna who has been travelling in the previous books. She is the gifted musician in the family and has been enjoying extensive piano training in Europe. Through the story we learn that she's had severe pneumonia which effectively ended her musical career as she can't "stand the exertion" with her lungs. So she comes home. And she doesn't want to be coddled by her sisters, but is struggling to find her path without concerts in her future.
She comes under the scrutiny of Dr. Burke Finley who assesses that she has medical issues just from his personal training. He's in Sweetwater to accompany his aunt to the house that her fiancé built for her...the home that Joanna and her sisters are living in and is used as an INN. he has his own personal demons he's battling, but he is called to provide the care he trained for. He also desperately wants to help *cure* something like the pneumonia Joanna had in order to help so many people.
The book wraps everything up in a bow--especially the mystery of what happened to Clive...the man who built the house that the girls have lived in their whole life--who disappeared one day. Once the answer to that is revealed--it is obvious to me now that hints were given through the previous two books as well. But it still wasn't one of those IT IS OBVIOUSLLY SO-AND-SO until it was revealed.
This was a great series and had a lot of inspirational encouragement throughout the books. Highly recommend all three...and you really need all three as none of them truly is a stand-alone.
4 stars.

Into the Starlight finishes Amanda Cabot's Sweetwater Crossing series and finally introduces to the long missing Vaughn middle sister, Louisa. After years of studying piano in Europe, Louisa returns home amidst tragedy- her recent husband and her grandmother both died suddenly. Returning to Finley House, she finds that her sisters and her home have changed a great deal. Burke Finley and his honorary aunt, Della, arrive at the same time, visiting Sweetwater Crossing for the first time. Burke is the nephew of the mysterious Clive Finley, who built Finley house for Della, his fiancee, but died during the Civil War. The mystery of what actually happened to Clive slowly brings Louisa and Burke together. I always enjoy Cabot's writing and this series has been no exception. I appreciate that Cabot always tackles subjects that other Christian historical romance authors tend to shy away from. I look forward to more from her in the future!
I received an advance reader copy of this title from the publisher.
I was given a copy to read and review through Netgalley. All thoughts are my own, honest opinion.
I requested this book as I have read and enjoyed other books written by Amanda Cabot. I read the 2 previous books about the other sisters and wanted to finish the series as I enjoyed "meeting" the other sisters and the towns people. This book did not disappoint me at all. If you have read any of the books by Amanda Cabot and enjoyed them, you will not be disappointed.
The characters were well developed and the story flowed well. There was a bit of a surprise at the end, which enhanced the story.
The only negative was a few minor editing errors. Mostly grammatical.
I think if you are looking for a clean, Christian but not preachy, novel, this book will be one you are glad to read.
Another fantastic book by Amanda Cabot! The third and sadly final book in the Sweetwater Crossing series. I enjoyed Joanna's story immensely! There were so many surprises that popped up everywhere! A mystery is solved, and true love is found!
The characters are wonderful! There are many familiar characters and some interesting new ones! I love that all of the sisters found love and the men in their lives are full of great qualities! The way the author writes her characters really touches the heart, and they start to feel like beloved members of family!
Some difficult issues are present in the book. Death of loved ones, murder and mental illness. On the opposite side, there's also second chances, love, and new life! I eagerly look forward to reading more books by this author!
I was provided a complimentary copy of the book by Revell via Netgalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Mystery, romance, family - this book has it all. This story has been teased from the beginning of the series and it doesn't disappoint. Well written, we finally tie up all the mysteries in the series which has me sad to finish but excited for a new series.
Sadly, it's the third and final story set in Sweetwater Crossing. This could be read as a stand alone but because the stories intertwine, I do recommend reading it in order. I will be buying this for the library and recommending it on as I loved it.
I receive complimentary books for various sources including, Netgalley, Authors, and other such sources. I am not required to write a positive review and have not received compensation.
The Vaughn Sisters: Joanna Richter: Widowed concert pianist returned home Louisa Porter: Town midwife, married to Josh, owner of the mercantile Emily Furguson: Eldest sister, cook for their boardinghouse, married to Craig, town teacher
Guests at the Finley House: Burke Finley: Physician trying to heal from a tragedy Della Samuels: Waited over 20 years to see the house her deceased fiancé, Clive, had built for her Mrs. Carmichael: Takes care of Noah, the teacher's son while he’s at school
Townfolk: Gertrude Albright: Had a crush on Clive Miss Heppel: Piano teacher, church pianist, also had a crush on Clive 20 years before Harold Lindstrom, current town pastor
Twenty+ years before, Clive Finley met a beautiful young lady in Alabama he wanted to marry and take with him to Sweetwater Crossings. Her father wouldn’t allow it until Clive built her a house bigger and better than the one she grew up in. So Clive went back to Sweetwater Crossings to begin the house, which took a while and caught the attention of everyone in town.
Sometime after it was finished, Clive disappeared. Nobody really seemed to know where, only speculate that he went to war and died. The Vaughn family took over the house and the three sisters were raised there. Twenty years later with both mother and father gone, the family mansion had become a boarding house named after Clive Finley called The Finley House.
One day, two visitors from Alabama came to see the Finley House. One was Burke Finley, the nephew of Clive Finley, the other was Della Samuels, who Burke called Aunt Della, though there was no relation. Della was the fiancé for whom Clive Finley built the house. She had no designs on it, she just wanted to finally see it, go on with her life, and maybe find out information about what happened to Clive.
Many townsfolk were shocked at the resemblance between Burke and his uncle Clive. Two women in particular who had crushes on Clive 20 years before were shocked when they saw Burke thinking he was Clive returned.
What was fun about this book were the friendships between nearly everyone in town, but primarily the new visitors and the Vaughn sisters. There was no apparent romance between the new widow, Joanna, and Burke, however, they were together every day becoming closer friends. Their friendship began around meal times at the boardinghouse, but deepened as they were both trying to find answers to the mystery of Clive’s disappearance/death.
I really like this story much more than the first book of the series. Much more realistic. True to life emotions, gentle friendships, and mild faith storyline made this a book I enjoyed reading.
Into the Starlight was about dreams and aligning your dreams with the will of God, using your talents for the good of others.
Burke and Joanna had a sweet friendship which grew into love. I loved how they listened to each other, supported one another and was each other’s confidant.
I loved catching up with all the sisters – I still need to read Louisa’s story, though I did not feel like I were lost at all, so I do think each book can be read as a standalone.
There were a few possible characters who could have been involved in the disappearance of Clive, though I did see early on who the true culprit was.
A satisfying conclusion to the series and the mystery around what truly happened to Clive.

I liked this story. I have enjoyed the other books in this series and thought this was a great conclusion to the series. I liked how it answered some questions from the earlier books and helped to wrap some things up. I also liked the romance between Joanna and Burke. I liked how they became such good friends so quickly and can be open with each other and talk about things that they wouldn’t with anyone else. I also liked how they solved the 20 year mystery and found peace for the town and others affected by it. I also liked how Burke and Joanna brought out the best in each other. I would recommend this series.
I received a complimentary book from publishers, publicists, and or authors. A review was not required and all opinions and ideas expressed are my own.
